I'm glad you loved everything 💟 please hold off on getting the plug fills until after you get the last package, then you can decide if you still need to get them 😉
I had a very momentary ant problem earlier this season. We never have ants but for some reason they were piling in through the back door like mad! In and also flies. For some reason we were hit with a storm of flies at the same time. So I hit them with my insect spray and it worked immediately. I haven’t had any problems since. Best spray I’ve ever used! We used it on the fire ants outside first then tried it inside. Brilliant! So here’s my formula, and I do spray my plants leaves with this as well and they have not had any problems at all: Water Orange oil Dawn liquid dish soap (blue) Problem solved.
You can mix equal parts vinegar and water and spray the moss poles. It won't kill the ants but they will leave because they don't like the smell. It will also keep them from coming back. Hope this helps.
If your Castile soap spray is an option, the soap suffocates the ants because it coasts their exoskeleton. I would take it outside, spray it with the Castile mixture - leave for 10-15 minutes and then spray off with clean water until no more residue remains. When dry, I would sprinkle with diatomaceous for remaining stragglers or hatchlings.
Watching your videos while studying for my nursing midterms next week! You have such a calming and gentle energy! Oh, regarding the undulata, that Hoya is a notoriously fickle plant and HATES HATES HATES having it's roots touched and will drop it's leaves from what I've experienced. I suspect this is due to the very tiny, delicate roots it has like you mentioned, perhaps babying the roots of the this plant may lead to increased success (all anecdotal from my own experience). So far I've gone through 4 undulata's, my current one that is thriving finally, loves life at nearly 80-90% humidity, in a substrate full of rice hulls (natural silica source) fir bark fines, finer pumice stone and sulfur pellets. It likes it's toes wet, but not the ankles. Fingers crossed your baby thrives!
Thank you! You're so kind to say that and good luck on your nursing midterms! 🫶 Thanks so much for sharing all your knowledge with this plant 💕 I don't really have any experience with them but I can see it being a finicky one. Hopefully, the cuttings root up okay. I could definitely give it more humidity so I might move it into my cabinet then. I really appreciate it!!
Thank you for mentioning my small Canadian shop and buying my stands! One of my customers mentioned your video and I came to check it out! I hope your like the stands!
aw I do really love them. I never collected a lot early on for some reason. I feel so clueless now when it comes to all the hybrids. I definitely want to collect some more :D
Love watching your videos when Chai comes to visit. I WANT HIM! FRIENDLIEST CAT I’VE EVER SEEN!! (And I have 4 of my own!) LOL I laughed out loud when you said “are you purring?” YES!! He’s ALWAYS PuRRing!! And he (maybe she, I’ve forgotten) is Gorgeous also! Wow.
I'm so surprised the TARRO didn't work. I had a massive infestation that started in my basement (baseboards) and they travelled all the way up my stairs and were invading my kitchen. What I learned when researching was that when they feel threatened (I tried vacuuming them) they split the colony and go into overdrive reproducing multiple colonies to neutralize the threat. TARRO was the only thing that worked for me and it worked within a week. If I were you I would get more and just be patient.
Your gloriosum is getting BIGGG😍😍 they really seem to love pon! A new leaf if growing on mine👀 super excited how big she gets! ✨ Also your plant room is goals🫶🏻
Hi Melissa! Thank you for the great video. I enjoyed every minute of it! As for the ant situation...try sprinkling some Turmeric powder on the poll because ants do not like it, but is doesn't kill them. 😁😁😺😺
Nice of her to send gifts! I'd be very careful with any wall plug-ins with your cats though! Many are toxic to them and can cause serious health issues for both cats & dogs!
There is a product called Ant Be Gon.. I don’t know if you have it in the states but we have it in Canada. It’s supposed to be plant and pet safe. I use it on the perimeter of my house when ants get a bit aggressive and try to come in the house. You could take your plant outside and spray the moss pole with it and they may evacuate it.
I certainly have been fighting mealy bugs. They just show up on plants that have been here forever. They even got all over my African violet. 😢 it was covered in flowers and the mealy bugs were all over it. I had to give it a hard prune and treat it to get rid of them. New soil. But it survived. That plant is so determined to bloom.
So glad to see a video from you just as I was ready to relax and crawl into bed! Love watching you play with your plants and kitties! I like the highlights in your hair. Are they new? I just got a philo Micans. Hope it will grow for me. I like the velvety leaves too.
I’m sorry that your Melano didn’t make it in the end Melissa. A lot of my alocasias that were lush and sizing up in summer are not doing well since the weather changed. It started with Jacklyn and now Frydek and a couple more… ugh. I had to take them out of pon and put them in stratum. I’m going to get a fan. I think they’ll appreciate some air flow in the room.
I would get crazy and put ant bait all over around the plants and even on the poles. And also I’d try diatomaceous earth as well, but the pole wetness might not make it work.
You should try an aroid mix pole. I just made one yesterday for my Monstera Adonsonii. Didn’t want to deal with moss. I used a chunky aroid mix PhytoThrive Chunky Aroid Mix. I’m excited to experiment and see how she does.
Good morning. Okay, now you have put an update on the mint monstera . It shows more mint on it & is beautiful 😍. I'm getting so confused about the mint monstera . Because some people called them mint white monster ugh. 😅 lol, the one I put on order call mint monstera white monster I guess they have two kind of mint I did a research. 😅 lol. But they are both gorgeous. Can't wait to get mine ❤
There's NOID mints that aren't TC and I bought the more green on mint one recently and there's also full mints and then the white monster I thought had to be purchased directly from Kunzo or someone that got one from him. I think a lot of people label mints they're selling as a white monstera but they would have to prove it came from Kunzo lineage for it to be a true white monster.
@plantsbymelissa Yeah to confusing for me. Well, I find one is so Amezing gorgeous but I'm not sure I want to pay over 200 right now. Lol. I got cheaper one in my Curt . Is really temting me to really get it. I paid $ 250 for my Ariea, but I I don't want to really repeat it for a while. Unless I'm getting the money back or some. So I just might stick to the little one. 😅. I got to stop looking at the gorgeous big one it cost more . I think it is fun to watch it grow anyway. You have a great day. So many different ones now
I bought bag of candy for myself and shared it with my roommate. I don’t give it out at Halloween because we only get one or two kids and that sends my very protective dog in to a barking frenzy. All he want to do is “kill” the intruder. So I turn off the porch light, my grow lights and close the blinds all the way.
Is that fellopia a multiflora, just variegated? It doesn’t look like any other variegated multiflora I’ve seen. Nuts a very pretty plant. If it’s a multiflora, I’d like to get one!
Feed your ants cornmeal. Inside the house and in the yard. They can't digest the cornmeal and they unalive. And dissolve boric acid and water the poles. I don't think it will hurt the roots
@plantsbymelissa where did your stand come from by the window where your albo is on? I bought something similar and it’s just not tall enough between the shelves. Drives me nuts.
Chai is like " mommy just one more kiss " love his eyes! He's so stinking cute! ❤ What alocasia would you recommend for beginners? I have philodendrons and pothos and a Monstera Siltepecana I have them in Molly's aroid mix, I wanted to try alocasia , just don't know where to start.
Try a regal shields.. they're not super finicky and I love mine. They can get big though haha. Jewel alocasias have been a little more finicky for me. The regular green micholitziana has been pretty easy going for me as well. It attracts spider mites though :( A lot of my alocasia love semi hydro/pon.
@plantsbymelissa thank you for the recommendations! I'll give it a try, I watch all of your videos and just want to jump into doing every kind of plant, haha! But so far I'm doing good with cactus plants and a few of the tropical plants I mentioned. All are thriving. I'm actually transitioning my Jose Buono into pon as we speak. So far so good. ❤️ Have a wonderful day!
That’s good to know about the bases because I’m getting Barrina lights at the end of the month when I get paid. I’d be interested in a more stable base. Could you let us know what company you got found them at.
If you put some amdro bits on the poles or in the floor, they will get it and they'll all die. It didn't hurt my rosebushes or anything so I wouldn't think it would hurt your plants. It is by far the easiest way to get rid of ants. You can get it at Walmart. The ants just disappear and ant beds become just dust. Grass keeps on living so I don't think it would hurt any plants. 😊
There is something like roach motels for ants it’s long and slender and has like a sap inside u break up and ants crawl in and I don’t know if they take it to their den. But all will be gone. I had a situation like that in my pantry I would clean and they seem to return , but that any bait helped.
Hi Melissa i had the same Problem with my alocasia frydek var. I checked the pot and the ants were crawiling inside the pot maybe there is a small colony in one of your pots😢 hope this helps❤
How does it climb without dirt or moss in the pole? I tried just putting bark in a pole for my Philodendron Jose Bueno and the leaves are getting smaller and smaller. 🤔
I'll just keep attaching it as it climbs and any aerial roots should cling onto the pole. It should want to naturally size up in leaf size with the support. Feed with a higher nitrogen fertilizer for bigger leaf size and more light will also encourage growth.
Is your sp. Colombia (now called 'El Guapo')not a crawler? Mine has some of those spots too. It seems to be growing slowly in aroid mix...maybe I should move to semi hydro🤔
You know I’m not sure if it’s a crawler. Mine has always wanted to grow up or climb. It sorta grows like my el choco red. I think some plants do want they want lol. I have a Thai monstera crawling 😂.
I’ve gone to straight 70% alcohol. It seems to be the only thing that seems to work for mealies. They keep their popping up on random plants not connected to any other plants.
One of my tall skinny floor lights did the exact same thing and then one of the foots broke completely off. I don’t know what to do with it now. So annoying.
I just wanted to let you know I bought that fancy spray bottle of yours and I did not like it at all. Thanks so much Dora for the sweet gifts 💕
Melissa you're so welcome. You deserve so much more😊
Dora! Can you be my friend too!?! 😂😂❤❤
I'm glad you loved everything 💟 please hold off on getting the plug fills until after you get the last package, then you can decide if you still need to get them 😉

I didn't get chores done today but I will watch again and do plant chores

I'm so glad you ordered those Barrina bases! They're SOOO amazing. I also love how they don't take up too much space.
Dora you’re adorable! Love the gifts they’re perfect for her.
She is so sweet!!
Pro tip on the Barina bases: they fit traditional tripod stands. I had the same issue as you and just bought tripods for my lights lol.
Glad you propped it. It will do awesome, just keep it wet! 😊
Awesome! Thank you!!
I’m so happy to see your Anthurium! Their my favorite genus and seeing yours more makes me happy 😊
aw I do really love them. I never collected a lot early on for some reason. I feel so clueless now when it comes to all the hybrids. I definitely want to collect some more :D
So excited to watch this Melissa thank you😍🥰🥰🥰
You are so welcome! Enjoy 🫶
Love the way the fallopia looks on that pinkish/beigeish vase, super cute. ❤
That caudata was huge, now I remember how big it was you’ll have lots of props growing.
Dora sure knew what you would like all such cute gifts. 😊. But she makes the rest of us look like slackers 😂

Thank you!! Mine is definitely climbing 🥰
Hi Melissa! Thank you for the great video. I enjoyed every minute of it! As for the ant situation...try sprinkling some Turmeric powder on the poll because ants do not like it, but is doesn't kill them. 😁😁😺😺
That s Columbia silver is really going to appreciate some room to grow. Think of how big its leaves will get now 😮
I love your plant room❤
Thanks Dora 🤗
Nice of her to send gifts!
I'd be very careful with any wall plug-ins with your cats though!
Many are toxic to them and can cause serious health issues for both cats & dogs!
I think the DE is a good idea. I’m planning on using it myself for my ant problem.
ugh sorry you have an ant problem too! Let's hope they go away for good! 🤞
Dora is Adorable 🌱

Hmm I’ll have to look that up. I don’t think I’ve heard of it but definitely willing to try anything 😂 they’re driving me crazy lol.
Wow
Beauutifull gift
❤

aw I'm glad it pulled through, mealies suck! they just attack the new growth like crazy I've noticed and it's so random :(
So glad to see a video from you just as I was ready to relax and crawl into bed! Love watching you play with your plants and kitties! I like the highlights in your hair. Are they new? I just got a philo Micans. Hope it will grow for me. I like the velvety leaves too.
Aw thanks you! No, the highlights are old 🙈 micans is amazing!! 😻
Love your long videos! Keep them coming!😂
oh okay, I cut one of my hoya imports last year and it didn't like it haha. So I think it made me nervous to cut them right away 🙈

I was worried about that 🫠 ughh I just need to tackle it. I might take it outside and just go crazy with the DE haha
That’s the problem with anthuriums, they get massive and then there’s no room for them.
We just adopted a cat from the wake county shelter, his name is Mr Fudge, a year and half old, in gray/white 🥰. How old are your kitties?
aww how sweet 🥹 I love the name!! Chai and Star are siblings they are 5 and Luna is 4 😁

It's so random! I'm definitely using the alcohol more because I don't think the castile soap is cutting it anymore.
Did you get a little monstera tattoo on your wrist? How stinking cute
Yes! hehe :D It was random and not planned but I love it! It's my first tattoo.

is the terro ant bait. I just have it sitting on top so they can drink it

I just wanted to let you know I bought that fancy spray bottle of yours and I did not like it at all. It sprays out such a miniscule amount of water I find it useless even spraying orchid roots which generally love a fine mist of water.

I’ve had same issues w/ Undulata. I don’t know why they can be so funny to rehab and root. Miro from Basie.plants said the same thing.
I see Kevin @hakunalaplanta do that all the times. He’ll cut up new plants up on receiving them. (Hoyas I mean)
