This is what mine started doing last week. Turned out to be the Idle Air Control valve (IAC). This is on he back side of the throttle body. To get to it easy, remove the throttle body (4 1/2 bolts) disconnect the throttle cable and pull it out of the bracket. You will have enough play with the other cables attached to get to the IAC. The IAC is about $45 at NAPA. The other possibility is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on side of throttle body ($40 at Advanced Auto). First thing to try is cleaning the throttle body with a fair amount of Carb Cleaner. That may just solve your problem... for now. It is stupid that this sensor can shut you down.

After several videos and askin around I decided to start cheap. Paid $43 for IAC and BAYAAMMM runnin normal after that. Praise God no mechanic this time
I had similar problem with my 99ram starting and stay running. My problem was air to fuel ratio, my machanic said to disconnect the plastic injector between the intake and the black solinoid (mine was next to the wheel well on the passenger side) see if there was fuel coming out. The pump solinoid may be bad. my case was weird because no fuel came out and it ran beautifully no problems. I put a bolt on the rubber line to make sure no fuel wasn't spilling. When I had the line connected the engine would die. I may send you a picture later
It's either the Idle Air control or Throttle Position Sensor. I have a 97 just like yours and one of those things keep going out on me. Fortunately, it goes bad within the warranty period and I just go back to Autozone and get another one.
My 1996 Ram would not stay running without foot on the accelerator. I was about to replace my Idle air control valve but as I was taking my airfilter box off, I noticed that rats had filled my plenum tube with insulation from my hood. Cleared the nest, HOME FREE. Runs fine now..
My truck was doing the same thing. I thought at first it was a bad battery since I already put a new alternator on a few months back. So I bought a new battery, 2 days later, it completely just stopped on me while driving. And then it wouldn't Crank over anymore. Acted like it wasn't getting gas. But the more I see videos like this, the more I'm thinking it's the throttle position sensor or the idle air valve. I just bought the throttle position sensor, so hopefully it's just that . 🙏🙏🤞🤞🤞 Wish me luck 🤞!! And thank you for sharing!
@@edujtolentino3072 Yes had the same issue as in the video. I just took off the carb cover and cleaned it with carb cleaner spray. It started fine after that.
@@edujtolentino3072 So just pretty much cleaning is all it took. No replacement or anything was needed. Just clean the sensors under the cover where the air intake is and clean the throttle body thing.
if its still not fixed clean the throttle plate under the air intake filter carbon deposits build up and it cant get enough air to stay running i had the same problem with my 97 1500 and that did the trick for me
Sensor or vacuum issue. Fairly easy fix. Whichever it is, you'll probably be able to spray it down and reinstall. Start with TPS sensor, remove it, then crank her up again. If the issue is still there, then its the TPS. Spray her down with carburetor cleaner then reinstall.
+Raul Garcia my 2002 dodge is having the same problem. happened when i had it parked for a month or 2, it smells really gassy when it is running and i have to keep it about 2000rpm for it to run and also the exhaust gets red hot by the cat converter. checked sensors, changed computer, cat converter, plugs and wires. no luck still.
It could be the mass air flow sensor which is considered as a carburetor. When you start it it doesn't allow to stay open so it closes and it kills the fuel. I have an '03
Ok had the same issue with my 1997 Dodge Ram. After getting my truck I was told that it likes to die. Well I also had a noisy belt come to find out that the ac compressor had a bad clutch which made the belt noisy. I replaced the belt with one that had the no ac option. Truck worked fine. Then I need to replace the alternator, the new alt. pulley was bigger by a half inch. No problem with the R&R, but it made the belt tighter. Well my truck acted in the same manner as in this video. I drove my truck the belt warmed up and stretched a bit, now there are no issues. So my suggestion to anyone with this issue is to check your belt tension. Hope this helps.
it seems like the t p s sensor throttle positioning sensor its located on the drivers side of the throttle body there is a plug with two wires and two screw that hold it place .
Throttle positioning sensor..the specific job of the throttle position sensor is to give your car's computer the position of the gas pedal. Thanks to this information the computer is able to figure out the right mixture of fuel and air flow that the engine requires.
I’m going through the same thing. it’s 1999 Dodge Ram. I’m going through exact same thing. It’s the fuel pump. And you mentioned when you got into your truck that you had power. well my new battery died after 1 month. So i bought a new battery and alternator. I took the starter off had it checked they said it was good. After three weeks battery’s dead again.
Heard from the mechanic this afternoon. He says it's the IAC. She'll be ready to be picked up tomorrow. Guess when I had that changed out last year we didn't get a Mopar part, so she doesn't like it lol.
+cadencorin1 the IAC is the Idle Air Control valve. It's what allows your vehicle to "breathe". When it goes bad, it chokes out the vehicle, and it won't stay running.
Change the distributor and the distributor cap, it's not that expensive rather than changing the alternator. My 96 Dodge Ram had the same issue and after that fix Good as new
My dad's Truck is doing something similar to this. It idles just fine as far as I know but recently it will occasionally stall if you are going very slowly with a little bit of a slope.
Just bought a 98 Dodge 1505.2 L. It will start and run great for a couple of days ran great for the first month I had it then it just won’t start it’ll crank over but won’t start the next day. So one day it’ll crank and run like a perfect truck then the next day sometimes it won’t start any ideas.
I wish I did have some ideas for you. Sadly I am not a mechanic. I just happen to be able to get that diagnosed and thought I would share to see if it could help anyone else. I wish you the best of luck and figuring out the issue.
mine did the same thing...after spending almost 1200 bucks on replacing all kinds of sensors....my problem was a bad alternator it wasn't circulating enough juice throughout the whole motor...
2020 , I have 200-1 ram 1500 5.2 l and have been working on it , battery termal and fix rust , replace , and battery charge , my truck starts , then does the same as the ladies truck , thanks i will try IAC , , let you know the turn out .
Crank shaft sensor did not seem to fix the issue. Took her back to the mechanics. waiting to hear from them. She had the Crank Shaft sensor replaced, but the issue became more prominent. Had her stall out on me last night 4 times. Had to drive with both feet to keep her idle. Otherwise she would die. Problem in progress. I'll report with what the mechanic says when I get word.
has your battery recently died? Mine is doing this samething..but if I hold my foot on the gas to keep the truck at 2k rpm for about 2 mins and slowly take foot off gas. The computer relearns the throttle iac postioning to keep the truck running. I charged battery and works great now...but still going to replace battery so I don't have this problem over and over.. hope this helps and works for you..bottomline change the battery.
A big Thank You goes out to Mr Simpson, I didn't have the $ to put into my 2000 Ram 1500 which doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it. I hadn't driven it for a while so when I had to jump it and it wouldn't stay started, I had to keep my foot on the gas or it would die it had never done that before (I've had it for 12 yrs now) I even bought the OEM manuals so when & if I needed them I'd have them. You gota know the OEM books covr all 2000 era dodge trucks & vans lite & heavy duty & weigh in at a good 20+lbs, & you won't find the answer to what was going on with my truck anywhere in them, I'm so happy to hav stumbled across this UA-cam Post a big Thanks to them as well for giving us a place to post. Try Mr Simpsons suggestion before you take your dodge to the shop/ scrap yard. Anothr tip It doesn't take long for the trucks computer (if its in good shape) to reset to its original settings, I peddled mine for maybe 30 min once the idle came back & I was able to take my foot off the gas,I turned the defroster it was cold & as soon as I could see out the window took it for a spin around the block, ,Then all was right in Joanie's world ......
Elizabeth Cosens I had the same problem..same mod truck and year.it took us a mouth to find.... problem..it was the gas cable from the floor to the carb..don't let them sucker you..
I'm having the same problem with my 2000 Dodge ram, I told the mechanic it sounded like the IAC, plus it's throwing a code that says that it's the IAC. However my mechanic disagrees. We have horrible mechanics around here and this is the best one around. I have no other option in mechanics.
My 1998 Dodge Ram just started doing this too. I left my lights on so battery went dead jumped it off but now it will not stay running unless I keep giving it gas. Never had this problem before and I have had to jump it off befor and it didn't do this. Any ideals cause I'm stuck in town. I need a quick fix to get me home. Please and thanks
Ok so I just had the same problem with my 1997 and replaced the IAC Valve (Idle Air Control Valve) and it runs perfect. Not sure if that's what the problem would be with all of them or not but it worked for mine.
I am currently having the same problem on my 98 dodge ram 1500, after I drive it a little it starts up fine. It's just the initial first start. I don't know what the problem is i am having, I hope its an easy fix
I'm having the same problem I've replaced the a.i.c and the t.ps. and it's just getting worse bout to cut my cats off. And mess with the distributer cap. Idk wat to do. It's to the point it won't stay cranked. U put it in gear it'll die. I can give it gas hold the brake and change gears but that's not working any more!
I'm sorry to hear that your fix is not working as well as minded. I hope that you have a trusted mechanic or a friend who is mechanically capable to help you out 😥
I'm use seafoam and that if that don't work Ima have to put it in the shop everyone is telling g me the same thing and that's the first things I changed
I'm having the same issue with mine. drove fine the day i got it and the next day. I didnt start it for a week and this same thing happened. whats the IAC?
I had the same issue but I found out the problem it's was the lines that are connected to the radiator if they now tied on right you'll get a slow leak and slowly run out of motor oil
You mean tranny fluid?? No motor oil runs to the radiator. I own multiple dodge trucks and know what your talking about but it is the tranny lines not motor oil
I'm having the same no idle situation on my 02 Dodge Ram Van 1500. The van was sitting and the battery went almost dead. It wouldn't crank but lights worked. I hooked up a charger to charge the battery successfully. It started and ran off idle, but would stall on idle. Did your replacing the IAC fix the situation?
Yes. I replaced the crank shaft position sensor. That wasn't the issue. The IAC was. Though I need to replace the battery cable leads too. There is a list. But step by step.
This issue solved... Don't replace iac, CLEAN IT OUT with carb cleaner first, if same results then replace, the throttle body gets gunked up and iac doesn't work correctly...the hole the iac sits in has a ridge make sure this is cleaned even if a new iac is being placed and its down by the tip of iac...so I'd say about 2in inside ... been messing around with my 98 durango 5.2 v8... my belt broke and it overheated....replaced belt to find out that my idle pully was tweeked...replaced the pully to discover this same issue, also it was still overheating, wouldn't start on it's own then mash gas petal and itd run till warm then idle rough like 400rpm-500rpm lights would dim and bright as it surged.. and normal idle was 700rpm (below the 1 in case you think I meant the 5 and 7 on rpms as it's x1000) ... replaced water pump cause when I heated it up it sizzles in front of the engine where the water pump is... fixed the overheating, but when I looked at the volts they were well below 14, took alt to a.z. and tested it, passed 2 didn't register 1 of the test maybe faulty equipment in hindsight but I went ahead and and replaced alt... so 350 in parts later I began my Google search and ran across this video looked in comments that this issue was resolved by replacing the iac ...broke as **** now I decided to take out the iac and clean it .... mine was gunked bad ...and my hole was so bad the black death soaked through a shirt and stained my hands ...after cleaning the iac and it's hole runs like a champ again... I wanna thank Elizabeth for saving me the 40$ part and getting me running again... Thank you!
Somebody has probably already said this but you have to take the negative battery cable off of that truck and let it sit for 20 minutes and then put it back on and she should cranked right up somehow the computer needed resetting
My battery cables need to be replaced still. Ended up getting new terminal pieces. Seemed to fix it for the time being. But still need to replaced though
Fuel filter is in the tank but I think you have to buy the whole thing which is the pump and filter combo . Unless your really good then rebuild the pump and clean your filter . Just saying.
Mine did the same thing and i parked it and the next day mine ended up being the battery and also it didn't get enough ground on my 2001 dodge ram laramie but could also be alternator
Also having an issue where I try turning the ignition and won't start at all.. Brother checked all the fuses, even changed the spark plug , didn't work ..any reason why?
when you were starting the truck, did you get any thing i.e. any type of cranking or clicking noise at all? I'd start with checking your battery cables & connection. Then if that's not it, get your battery & alternator tested. possibly even the starter too. I have had issues with my battery cables before. In fact, still need to get new ones, so I don't run into that problem again.
+Elizabeth Cosens turns out my brother kinda broke a piece of the cooling sensor connector... And too find somewhere for only the connector piece... It's difficult
i had the same problem with my 2001 dodge i had to hold the gas peddle down at a steady hi idle then slowly let your foot off the peddle real slow and the computer will pick up and keep it idleing correctly every time i removed the battery terminal it would do this to mine it is something with the computer but every time i repeated this method it worked so give it a try
brian gawenus I had tried that, my cranky Dodge does that anytime the battery had been disconnected for any period of time. But that was not the issue it was presenting. The IAC needed to be replaced. My poor girl couldn't breathe.
brian gawenus The trick is, whenever you've disconnected your battery (or let it die) you have to reset the ECU's data of the gas ranges. All you have to do is disconnect the negative terminal and push the gas pedal all the way to the ground for 30 seconds, then reconnect your positive terminal. After that it should run just fine.
brian gawenus I'm having the same problem with my 99 dodge ram it has the 5.9 magnum I can get her to idle after feathering the throttle but she won't stay started unless I do that. same fix?
seth364 ty...had my 98 parked with a dead battery....ran fine before....your trick worked....thanks to the uploader and your comment. I can fix anything with youtube...lol
Mine starts but once I'm on the road and I come to a stop it shuts off ND now it sounds like if catalac convert messed up cause when I start it it sounds like I have straight pipe. I need answers!!!
Mine does the same just replace the alternater and bought a new battery can't have the lights on for 5 minutes then the battery uncharged real quick gen light is. Can any one help please.?
Mando Macias if your battery light is on, that means the computer isn't regulating the voltage from the alternator/ or the alternator is bad. Get someone to do a bench test with the alternator... if it tests good, and all your connections to the alternator are good, than you may have an issue within the vehicles computer.
turned out to be the IAC. She wanted her Mopar part, didn't like the after market one she had. replaced the Crank Shaft Sensor just before the IAC, but turned out, my poor girl couldn't breathe.
I have 2 O2 sensors to replace as well, but one thing at a time. Just don't have all the cash right now. Guess I'll have to deal with shitty gas mileage for now lol
Two 02 sensors are very easy and cheap to fix. Make your boyfriend do it. Simple as that. Two wrenches and a zip tie. Both sensors will cost you about $120.00 but they are really simple to install. Good luck, John.
my truck is doing the same thing I took off the hot wire on the battery for 20 seconds then put it back on to reset it and then it work did you get your truck fixed if you did what what fixed it because I'm praying I was going to go out and it ain't going to run
If you look in the previous comments you will see I replaced the Crank Shaft Position Sensor, though that was not the issue. Once the IAC was replaced she ran fine. Hope that helps.
Not sure what that would be. Had to take mine to the mechanic when this issue happened 2 yrs ago. I'd say check with a mechanic you trust, or check out a Dodge Ram forum ;)
I was working as a pizza delivery driver at the time. And I had to work an entire shift with that issue. So, in my case that did not solve it. If you had read through the comments, you would have seen that the issue was the idle air control valve needing to be replaced.
my boyfriend's 1997 dodge ram 1500 won't start. he replaced the starter and the battery with no luck. he hears a clicking sound when he tries and starts it. the fuses are good. battery is new starter is new. really frustrated.
did you try the IAC (idle air control), crank shaft position sensor, or TPS (throttle position sensor)? my issue turned out to be the IAC. if she can't breathe she won't stay running.

It's either the Idle Air control or Throttle Position Sensor. I have a 97 just like yours and one of those things keep going out on me. Fortunately, it goes bad within the warranty period and I just go back to Autozone and get another one.
Thank God fur you tube and for you guys' suggedtions. This is my project for th wknd. Wish me luck
My 1996 Ram would not stay running without foot on the accelerator. I was about to replace my Idle air control valve but as I was taking my airfilter box off, I noticed that rats had filled my plenum tube with insulation from my hood. Cleared the nest, HOME FREE. Runs fine now..
Have u figured out the issue mine just started to have that issue
My truck was doing the same thing. I thought at first it was a bad battery since I already put a new alternator on a few months back. So I bought a new battery, 2 days later, it completely just stopped on me while driving. And then it wouldn't Crank over anymore. Acted like it wasn't getting gas. But the more I see videos like this, the more I'm thinking it's the throttle position sensor or the idle air valve. I just bought the throttle position sensor, so hopefully it's just that . 🙏🙏🤞🤞🤞 Wish me luck 🤞!! And thank you for sharing!
Were you able to fix the issue? I'm having the same problem now
Update?
@@soikothassan6717 update?
@@edujtolentino3072 Yes had the same issue as in the video. I just took off the carb cover and cleaned it with carb cleaner spray. It started fine after that.
@@edujtolentino3072 So just pretty much cleaning is all it took. No replacement or anything was needed. Just clean the sensors under the cover where the air intake is and clean the throttle body thing.
if its still not fixed clean the throttle plate under the air intake filter carbon deposits build up and it cant get enough air to stay running i had the same problem with my 97 1500 and that did the trick for me
It was her idle air control valve
It was the IAC in my case this time. But thank you for your suggestion.
Thanks again katelande strange
In the front of your throttle body u have a short vaccum line. If its cracked and rotted thats your problem. Quick fix is to duct tape it.
Update?
OMG, so sorry:( good advice
Heard from the mechanic this afternoon. He says it's the IAC. She'll be ready to be picked up tomorrow. Guess when I had that changed out last year we didn't get a Mopar part, so she doesn't like it lol.
so was the IAC the problem. im having the same issue....
+PaperChaserNate you replied to what the problem was. The IAC.
What is the IAC? My car is doing the same thing. Thx!
+cadencorin1 the IAC is the Idle Air Control valve. It's what allows your vehicle to "breathe". When it goes bad, it chokes out the vehicle, and it won't stay running.
Elizabeth Cosens mines did tha same thing check ur ground wires that slove my problem
Change the distributor and the distributor cap, it's not that expensive rather than changing the alternator. My 96 Dodge Ram had the same issue and after that fix
Good as new
Same problem with mine! My mechanic told me to talk to a dodge professional. It is a common problem with these vehicles...
Abel Cerrillo was your battery staying charged with the faulty alternator???
2020 , I have 200-1 ram 1500 5.2 l and have been working on it , battery termal and fix rust , replace , and battery charge , my truck starts , then does the same as the ladies truck , thanks i will try IAC , , let you know the turn out .
Was it that I just woke up to the same problem..?
Chris, funny you said that. Shortly before she acted up, I'd had my fuel pump replaced.
Elizabeth Cosens I had the same problem..same mod truck and year.it took us a mouth to find.... problem..it was the gas cable from the floor to the carb..don't let them sucker you..
Estevan Vasquez I didn't get suckered, but thanks.
I think I did end up replacing that. But that wasn't what was done to fix the problem that day.
I'm having the same problem with my 2000 Dodge ram, I told the mechanic it sounded like the IAC, plus it's throwing a code that says that it's the IAC. However my mechanic disagrees. We have horrible mechanics around here and this is the best one around. I have no other option in mechanics.
Well he must really suck, because that's what it is
Sounds like its DIY time.
I had to keep giving it had to keep her from stalling out. Had to get the Idol Air Control Value replaced.
"iac" is idle air control. located in the throttle body
Ok so I just had the same problem with my 1997 and replaced the IAC Valve (Idle Air Control Valve) and it runs perfect. Not sure if that's what the problem would be with all of them or not but it worked for mine.
was yours doing the same thing as the truck in this video and is it the 5.9
i got my diagnosis here. Mine was doing the same thing. I got help with my truck from someone named Danielle. how the world has changed.
Danielle Alvarez mine is a 5.9 an it has just started this....dammm
yes and still is
I have had an issue like this. I changed the EVAP solenoid th as t took care of my issue
I am currently having the same problem on my 98 dodge ram 1500, after I drive it a little it starts up fine. It's just the initial first start. I don't know what the problem is i am having, I hope its an easy fix
did you figure out what was wrong
Same with me, wth!
i had literally the exact same problem and mine was the 02 sensor
I'm having the same problem I've replaced the a.i.c and the t.ps. and it's just getting worse bout to cut my cats off. And mess with the distributer cap. Idk wat to do. It's to the point it won't stay cranked. U put it in gear it'll die. I can give it gas hold the brake and change gears but that's not working any more!
I ment i.a.c
I'm sorry to hear that your fix is not working as well as minded. I hope that you have a trusted mechanic or a friend who is mechanically capable to help you out 😥
I'm use seafoam and that if that don't work Ima have to put it in the shop everyone is telling g me the same thing and that's the first things I changed
Gonna try cutting the cats off and a new distributer cap
Best of luck to you. Sorry fix didn't work for you.
I did let air control usually cleaning it will work.
Change the idle sensor and throttle sensor I had that problem with mine
Thank you!
Lawrence Warren you are very welcome. Thank you for actually reading through the comments to see that it had been resolved.
#DodgeLove
Do not use carb cleaner, they make an IAC cleaner.
Ladies and gentlemen it was the IAC. But thank you all for trouble shooting ideas ;)
What does AIC mean?
IAC
Idol Air Control, it's the Idol Air Control Vaulve
Was you check engine light on when you had the problem. Have the same problem
Daniel, no. My check engine light was not on.
I'm having same problem going to go get idle air valve hope it solves it
Somebody has probably already said this but you have to take the negative battery cable off of that truck and let it sit for 20 minutes and then put it back on and she should cranked right up somehow the computer needed resetting
Yup hold the gas down a little bit and let it warm up ittl stay runnin
My battery cables need to be replaced still. Ended up getting new terminal pieces. Seemed to fix it for the time being. But still need to replaced though
Being blind I love the sounds of those trucks.
i had same problem with 96 ram 1500 5.9liter my issue was a ground O2 sensor
Fuel filter is in the tank but I think you have to buy the whole thing which is the pump and filter combo . Unless your really good then rebuild the pump and clean your filter . Just saying.
Mine did the same thing and i parked it and the next day mine ended up being the battery and also it didn't get enough ground on my 2001 dodge ram laramie but could also be alternator
what about the plenum gasket? could this cause the same problem?
Yes it could
Also having an issue where I try turning the ignition and won't start at all..
Bummer
+Elizabeth Cosens thanks for the help anyways
It's the idle air control on the back of the car that has 2 bolts
i had the same problem with my 2001 dodge i had to hold the gas peddle down at a steady hi idle then slowly let your foot off the peddle real slow and the computer will pick up and keep it idleing correctly every time i removed the battery terminal it would do this to mine it is something with the computer but every time i repeated this method it worked so give it a try
brian gawenus I had tried that, my cranky Dodge does that anytime the battery had been disconnected for any period of time.
After that it should run just fine.
brian gawenus I'm having the same problem with my 99 dodge ram it has the 5.9 magnum I can get her to idle after feathering the throttle but she won't stay started unless I do that. same fix?
seth364 you're a genius at I watch this video listen to your comment did what you said and my truck runs great good job kid
seth364 ty...had my 98 parked with a dead battery....ran fine before....your trick worked....thanks to the uploader and your comment. I can fix anything with youtube...lol
My 2001 dodge starts and runs than it shut off what can the problem be!
From watching this for a few seconds, I noticed your batter ports very corroted. Clean them with a sand paper, wd40 them and that might be it.
plsniper I have since this video over a year ago replaced the battery. But thank you
My 99 is doing the same thing did u ever find out the problem
TBI or IAC or crank shaft positioning sensor or plugged CAT
Mine starts but once I'm on the road and I come to a stop it shuts off ND now it sounds like if catalac convert messed up cause when I start it it sounds like I have straight pipe. I need answers!!!
Mine does the same just replace the alternater and bought a new battery can't have the lights on for 5 minutes then the battery uncharged real quick gen light is. Can any one help please.?
Mando Macias if your battery light is on, that means the computer isn't regulating the voltage from the alternator/ or the alternator is bad. Get someone to do a bench test with the alternator... if it tests good, and all your connections to the alternator are good, than you may have an issue within the vehicles computer.
thanks for the update.
If you didn't figure it out, try your crank shaft position sensor
That's what I'm getting ready to do is install the crank position sensor after changing the fuel pump and all the other sensors
I will further comment when that is done
I'm having the same problem with the same truck right now. What was the fix? Thanks, John.
turned out to be the IAC. She wanted her Mopar part, didn't like the after market one she had. replaced the Crank Shaft Sensor just before the IAC, but turned out, my poor girl couldn't breathe.
for me it was the IAC in combo with the furthest back on the exhaust O2 sensor. Thanks for the reply! :-)
I agree with Mike Easton!
Gee... Sorry I'm not perfect like you guys lol. Must be nice. Enjoy!
Idle air control valve
Did you ever try putting it in gears when you had this problem? If you did do that would it die when you tried it?
I'm having a different issue mine stays running its just not starting properly
Not sure what that would be. Had to take mine to the mechanic when this issue happened 2 yrs ago. I'd say check with a mechanic you trust, or check out a Dodge Ram forum ;)
❤❤it doesn't like the cold weather and you have oil light on to
ur idle air control valve is plugged up just need to clean it
I’m starting to have the problem every other day but I can still drive it how could u clean it?
This is a very common dodge issue usually if you take it around the block and down the highway it will stop doing it😂
I was working as a pizza delivery driver at the time. And I had to work an entire shift with that issue. So, in my case that did not solve it. If you had read through the comments, you would have seen that the issue was the idle air control valve needing to be replaced.
my boyfriend's 1997 dodge ram 1500 won't start.
he replaced the starter and the battery with no luck.
he hears a clicking sound when he tries and starts it.
the fuses are good.
battery is new
starter is new.
really frustrated.
did you try the IAC (idle air control), crank shaft position sensor, or TPS (throttle position sensor)? my issue turned out to be the IAC. if she can't breathe she won't stay running.

That's EXACTLY what my ram is, and throwing an IAC cofe, not mechanic said it wasn't iac
I'm sorry my fix isn't what your fix is. I no longer have this truck. But I wish you luck on your fix. There have been many suggestions throughout the comments if you care to take a few moments and check them out. Maybe one of the suggestions is your fix??? Good luck. And thank you for watching.
I replaced mine but it’s doing the same thing
Check Your Connection On Your Battery Terminals .
Still have it? Thanks..
Turn the idle up
this only when our air conditioner was on air conditioner needed charging
Never had a/c
im having the same problem what was it with yours?
Joseph Benoit it was the idle air control valve. Sorry for the late response. Hope that helps
It helped great thank u
Glad I could be of help. :)
I have a Silverado that is doing this hope that's all it is I will let you guys know..iac
I just had the same exact problem the battery needed replacing, not charged but replaced. Advanced auto parts site to store was cheapest
check your battery I had the same problem in my battery was bad
How did you fix your truck?
jenn yen For my truck it was the IAC.
Did you find the problem?
Just fixed mine, same symptoms
clean or replace ur idle air control sensor iaco
Jordon Regan I ended up replacing the idle air control valve. They didn't say there was anything wrong with the sensor when I took it to the mechanic shop. But thank you for your input.
Change terminal and buy a new battery mine was doing the same thing change that an it work fine now.
