After much thought and watching countless hours of videos I have ordered the Mars 3 Pro because I trust your knowledge and honesty. The is my first 3D printer and I'm looking forward diving into this amazing realm of creativity. To be honest, the deciding factor for me in choosing the Mars 3 Pro over other makes and models was the screen protector. I have zero experience with resin printing I'm sure that this will, at the very least, help with confidence while using the machine. I'm not sure that the filter will do much for the toxic fumes but it's a nice little bonus feature. For years I've have been hesitant towards getting a resin printer but after watching your videos it I feel confident that resin printers, the methods of cleaning & curing(thanks to all the hobbyists who pathed the way for newcomers like myself) have come far enough that I will be able to enjoy myself. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us and I look forward to learning more.

I think it's not just that Elegoo aren't afraid to face criticism, but see you as a fair reviewer who is uses objectivism and doesn't seem to have any bias towards any product. Sure, if someone watches all the casting and other videos, they can see you have your current preference, but they also notice it change to whatever is working best for you at the time.
Whenever I get around to getting my resin printer, I know I'll be coming here to compare products.

That's VERY kind of you to say. I try my best to be honest and impartial. I label my videos as "honest" and have noticed that this started a bit of a trend. Now whilst I can't comment of what others do, with me you can be sure there's no Sponsorship / endorsements going on. Yes, I get a free printer, but I'm NOT running a print farm, I don't sell my printers or prints, and quite honestly I don't need extra printers. However, local schools benefit as, after an appropriate period, I give printers to them. In short, other than the tiny revenue generated by my views, I don't profit from the arrangement. 😁

Great overview as always! I just purchased the Mars 3 Pro to add to my growing stable of resin printers. Unlike my Mars 3 I needed to shim the Mars 3 Pro's homing tab to make it longer. Without doing this the plate would push extremely hard onto the glass bending the Z axis support to the rear. I was very concerned that it might crack the glass. For those wondering, yes the Z axis was calibrated according to the instructions and the plate would still crash into the glass plate. Maybe mine was a fluke. However, I recommend if you decide to purchase one leave the build plate off the machine and push the home button. Once it's in the home position, with the build plate screws loose, see if you can slide the build plate onto the mount but don't force it. Also be sure there is a sheet of paper on the screen to prevent scratches. If it fits then you should be ok to run the setup according to the manual. If not, you will need to make some adjustments to the tab on the z axis...
    Cheers,
    Greg

The advantage of collimating the light with a Fresnel lens doesn't have anything to do with the uniformity of the light. It has to do with the direction the light is traveling when it hits the screen and passes into the vat. Ideally you want it to be perpendicular to the screen, so only the volume of resin directly above an un-masked pixel will get exposed. With the COB lens, the angle varies for each point on the screen; the UV is perpendicular to the screen directly above the lens, but the further you get on the screen from that point, the steeper the UV's angle will be. It can lead to less accurate prints. Not in a way you'd be likely to notice printing single-part objects (miniatures, jewelry), but when keys don't fit together on multi-part models that otherwise look like perfect prints, this is often why.
Parallel lens LED arrays (as opposed to a single COB lens) are used in many printers to collimate the light, but if they aren't precisely calibrated with quality optics they run into uniformity issues. Good arrays are more expensive to produce, but they give incredibly sharp and accurate prints.
Whether or not a Fresnel lens is a good solution for collimating the UV, I couldn't say (first I'd heard of it in an MSLA printer was the Saturn 2). They aren't typically great for imaging purposes, but I imagine it depends on the quality of the lens. In any case, it's not there to improve uniformity. The 2% increase is incidental.

Hi, thanks for sharing your honest review, I have a few concerns about the comparisions, however.
The Photon M3 just released not long ago, actually the same time as the Mars 3 pro, but the mars 3 pro is a light refresh of the older printer, mars 3 (a year and a bit old now!).
I was wondering if you could give any insights between these two printers and how they might compare (print quality and ease of replacement parts wise). I'm expecting that the M3 is straight up better than the Mars 3 from the age, but I am honestly not certain as I can't find comparisions online.
    Thanks!

    • @vogman

This is usually caused by insufficient supports or the resin not being dialled in properly. This should help you with exposure settings. ua-cam.com/video/jOjB3Fr-0no/v-deo.html

Hi, Thank you for sharing your honest review, I think that in the end it is what we are all looking for, honest comments, tests and analyzes of a product.
Now that you have been able to analyze the Mars 3 Pro, and before you had tried the Photon Mono 4K, is it honestly worth paying the price difference for the Mars 3 Pro? Or is the Anycubic Photon Mono 4K a better quality-price option?
    Thanks.

    • @vogman
      @vogman  2 роки тому +2

These printers are equally matched in my mind. Everyone know I've raved about the Mono 4K, but that was mainly because it was a forgotten printer and certainly didn't deserve to be. It does a great job, as does the Mars 3 Pro. The only difference in terms of printing is size - i.e. print volume. The Mars will give you a little more. It doesn't look much but it could mean the difference between fitting something on the plate or not (especially with pre-supported models). So you need to have in your mind the sort of things you're going to be printing and go from there 😁

    Greetings VOG,
I have enjoyed your HONEST review videos, I want to buy my first 3D resin printer, I have no experience in 3D printing, although I work with CAD/CAM programs to make designs and parts with a CNC milling machine.
I am going to buy a 3D printer to print models of some parts that I have designed, before machining them. My options are the ELEGOO Mars 3 Pro, the ANYCUBIC Photon M3 and the Photon Mono X 6K (due to my budget,
it is a personal project), I wanted to know if you could tell me which of those options is better in terms of print quality, I have never seen one personally, what interests me the most is that the layers are hardly noticeable and that it is precise in terms of the final measurements of the printed piece. I hope you can help me choose one.
Thank you very much, I look forward to your next videos.

I already got the mini air purifiers that i can just put inside the shell, so only the tempered glass would matter to me. That said I never had any Z wobble. I had a loose screw with blue glue on it when it was first delivered which belonged to the printbed. I imagine that could have been the cause for the Z-Wobble for many, as not having it could mess with the leveling.

I literally got his 3d printer on Saturday(my 1st printer) and if not the fact that I struggle with finding good settings for my elegoo abs resin that would actually print a space marine like miniature(had few fails not sure why) but some other stuff came out pretty nice. Tho setting 30 sec for bottom exposure when i was printing that test tower chess thing made my cry. I had to put it in the freezer as I was not able to remove it from the plate. Other than that I am happy with that purchase as long as I manage to get the settings right and stop wasting time on failed prints :/ Also, shame it doesnt come with Chitu pro(I believe Mars 3 does) but I just started working with free lychee slicer, tho cant tell if this one is more noob friendly or free chitu.

Afraid I'm the dissenting opinion of Elegoo's after purchase support. The Saturn was the first and last Elegoo I'll own

Sorry to hear that buddy. Genuinely I hear from lots of folks raving about Elegoo and rarely those with complaints. That doesn't mean anything factually of course - it's just what I've heard. 😁

Personally, I'm happy to see that not every printer that comes out is allocating its budget to higher and higher pixel resolutions. I own an original Elegoo Saturn as well as a Mars 3, and when I print at .03 layer height, I honestly cannot see a difference in prints coming off the machines. I honestly think that 50 microns is good enough for most applications. Of course, I still want to see higher-resolution printers made, but I'm happy to see a broader variety of improvements rather than a race to the most impressive number by the big 3 MSLA printer manufacturers.

Not mad at you Mr. VOG. You tell it like is. But I call shenanigan's on Elegoo. My pre-order Mars 3 Ultra I got last year has the z-wobble. Elegoo's presales support assured me there is no problem as pre-order units z-wobble was fixed before units were shipped. That was not the case and aftersales support brushed it off and said not to worry as it's not a problem. LOL. Then they silently upgrade the Mars 3 Ultra and then try to offer the new Mars 3 Pro as an upgrade. Seems kind of shady to me. IMHO they need make good and offer a repair or replacement for those of us who basically got inferior units.

Thank you for that Tony. I'm a little upset by it (not by you, but to hear your news).
I have no power or influence over Elegoo. They don't sponsor my videos as they do other channels. I have to take as being true what they tell me, and they assured me the matter was resolved. Hand on heart I heard from people singing the praises of Elegoo support, yet nothing from a fellow Wobbler.
This situation was made more difficult by other channels essentially saying "what wobble?" It's possible of course that you and I were the only unlucky ones, but if so, why did Elegoo change the Z Arm? I can't say... I just don't know.
If Elegoo KNOW there was an issue and they HAVEN'T fixed it, then I agree, they owe it to those that bought the faulty models to rectify the situation. This is disappointing news to hear.

@@vogman This is pretty much the same as the last. And the one before that. It just seems if you write "Pro" on it to help it sell. Plain and simple. Apple and Samsung are both guiltily of the same.

I hear you Tony, I do. And I believe I said that. Do you not think I did?
I maintain that there are precious few updates between any of the Mars models when they go Pro, and this one is no different. But there are changes... Fresnel whopping 2%, air filter, new UI, but mostly the screen protection.
Now personally if I think "Pro," I'm thinking "Professional." So I want bigger, faster, better than standard.
Maybe Mars 3.1 would be a better name 😁😁😁
