293$ isn't bad honestly. Cool to see so many features packed in to this, looking at the jumps consumer resin printers have made over the last couple years is awesome to witness.
Great review VogMan, Thoroughly enjoyed it! I'm playing about with these AA setting for the normal Saturn 4 review as I feel that one is unfortunately even more limited! due to .goo and it;s massive filesize! But. more testing to go!!!
As someone with an original Elegoo Saturn, the Saturn 4 Ultra has me quite tempted to upgrade. While it still lacks a decent heater and the build plate seems like a nightmare to clean, pretty much everything else seems like a nice jump in specs. I've certainly had my fair share of issues with my original Saturn, but even just going from 50 micron pixel resolution and 0.05 layer height to 20/.02 is a huge difference when it comes to post-processing, particularly when painting with acrylics. Acrylic primers and paints pick up even the finest details, which means needing to sand some pretty fine layer/pixel lines.
Hi, small tip for hiding layer lines. AK Xtreme Primer and Microfiller really digs into resin. 2 thin and one thicker layer and you don’t see the lines without killing details.
Hope that lychee gets network and camera control soon. I just can't wrap my head around Chitu box after using Lychee for the last few years. Great Video ! ! !
Great video as always. Have you had compression issues like the Saturn 4 Ultra? Mine started out fine but is now very compressed and been going back and forth with Elegoo to try to fix.
This is my first time buying a 3D printer. Could you tell me what else I must get besides Mars 5 ultra? Do I have to buy air purifier, curing light, washer, resin, and LCD screens all separately with Mars 5 Ultra?
Great video as per. Very torn between this and the Phrozen Sonic Mighty Revo 14K. I need one to create masters for casting and want as little post-processing as possible. Erring towards this as Elegoo seem to have the superior customer service... If you could only have one of the two, what would you go for VogMan?
awesome.. So, no usb entrance for air filter.. hmm... I guess I'll end up making a hole on the wall of my apartment office room and install a exaustor there lmao.. A question that I have about the auto leveling features of the mars 5 ultra and saturn 4 ultra: can you manually calibrate anything if necessary? I usually calibrate my z index.. to remove elephant feet and to ensure that a 1mm thick piece printed directly on the build plate is actually 1mm. if the auto leveling already does that perfectly, awesome, but I got curious. Plus.. cleaning the build plate when changing resins seems to be.. ackward due to those rods.. but manageable, not too big.
I have a small time lapse of my print pealing off the build plate and the ai camera did not cause the print to stop. Lucky for me the other side of the print held on and the print did not fail but on the other side of the bed I did have a part in the resin vat and yet the ai camera did not catch it.
Excellent review Mr V. I do like this printer and I think the tilt plate is the future. No matter what slicer I've ever used, I always go back to Chitubox ✌️

I actually like that they did what they did with the Mars 5 and 5 Ultra, there is now a very inexpensive path, and a higher quality path, and there is a serious difference between the Mars 5 and Mars 5 Ultra. You are not wrong about it not making sense between generations of 4 and 5, but just looking at 5 alone, it makes a lot of sense.
I like the idea of a cheaper model too... but they shouldn't have done that with the Mars 5. They should have specifically created a starter printer, a little like Anycubic with the Mono 2. I think a lot of people will be confused by this backwards motion with the model names... Mars 3 (4K), Mars 4 (9K), Mars 5 (4K?) Still, I'm sure they know what they're doing 😁😁😁
Hi, I can't help but notice that your review of the Saturn 4 was rather critical and overall came off as negative, while your review of the mars 5 was overall glowing, and came off as very positive. As far as I can tell, they are the same printer, with size and build vol as the only meaningful difference. What gives? Would love to hear what you think comparing these two ostensibly similar models, and you are my favorite resin channel by far. I guess I just find it a little incongruous that you seem to really dislike one of these while really liking the other when ..... They seem to be the same printer.
I suggest you watch the video again. People often think I'm being "negative" or even overly "positive" about things when in truth I'm just pointing out the pros and the cons. 😁 I recall praising the innovation and ingenuity of the S4 Ultra, whilst criticising their decisions to not fit a handle on a flip lid. I also mentioned Elegoo no longer providing air filters (as I did in this video) and comparing how other printers in this market were now incorporating heaters.
Size. The S4 ultra and M5 ultra are much the same printer, but the Saturn has a much larger build plate. This allows for taller and wider prints, but of course this costs a little more. If you only ever print small things, then the Mars is great. But if your print sizes vary, the Saturn will give you much more flexibility.
I'm going to say, any larger print than an hour and I have seen drastic time differences from other reviewers. Printing something that takes 50m that most people aren't actually going to print and review it is silly. Compare a 3hr print in fast and regular settings.
Ahhh Vog, why dont you ever show the best resolution of the printer, you always print at that ugly 50 microns, makes no sense to review an 18micron printer if you show only 50 microns😑
18microns is the XY pixel size + some more microns for pixels separation. This affects boundaries precision and smoothness on XY plane and not on the YZ plane where is the layer height that matters.
I wish Elegoo would give us something that didn't look like a transformer. Ditch the crazy angular shapes & stupid decals. They make the product look like a toy. Nobody cares for that garbage. Also, go back to a standard build plate. Who wants that melting ice cream sandwich simulator?
I think it's a genuinely good attempt by Elegoo to do something innovative. Lately it's seemed like Anycubic was making all the strides forwards, so it's nice to see Elegoo answering the challenge.

Would Cura be able to work with this as a slicer? I've been using Cura for years and love it, it would just be a weird switch to me.

That build plate looks a nightmare to clean. How do you get the resin out from between those "stilts" between prints?
the plate should have a sill like a rectangular baking pan so the resin would not get on the upper plate which looks like a pain to clean.
My first question for any 3D printer, what slicers work with it?
