The hot shoe cover on the camera should solve that issue for you. Any kind of water (including humidity) can cause that if you leave the hot shoe cover off.
Its the hotshoe cover not being in place, as already been said in the comments below. As a precaution I also put some good quality sticky tape over it, in case the cover goes missing when out and about. All hotshoe contacts are vulnerable to water/moisture damage.
@ 5:32 you can see the issue of water on the hot shoe, “This accessory (water) is not supported by the device and cannot be used. Please verify the compatibility with the device.” having Amanda pose really made the shot great.
Ok, I wanted to only do $50 for age 50 but with inflation it’s only $69.99 - hmmm, was that on purpose ? :) Have a wonderful Birthday Gavin and all the best to you both .
Thanks to this video, my wife and I are currently at Watkins Glen. It's amazing. I waited for 45 minutes yesterday to get a peopleless shot of Rainbow Falls. Hoping I have time to make it back there before we leave in a few days. Thanks for everything you do for the community. Love your work.
Happy birthday, but Amanda has stolen your show this time. Look how patiently she waits in the background as you talk to the camera. She's a keeper Gav. 👍
"You work with what you've got don't ya?" spoken like a true landscape photographer. As a street and doc photographer I agree 200%, because what is prior research even? I can't decisive moment that. Strangers mid stride on hideous backgrounds, made black and white because I didnt plan for better light is my bread and butter. From my perspective you did great! 😂
I noticed the camera hot shoe cover was missing. One drop of water into that area could cause some shorting hence, the error message. I would always cover my hot shoe unless I am using a flash or another accessory. Another photographer has recommended the Nikon Shoe Cover BS-3. It is more protective and apparently fits into the Sony's hot shoe.
The waterfalls you’re at now remind me of your original work in Vancouver Island. I loved your videos from out there, and you are obviously in a special zone in that environment. We enjoy your work very much, and hope you are doing well.
I bought Sony’s 200-600 a couple years ago, and have gone from strictly landscapes, to 80% bird photography. I still go on landscspe outings, but love striving for great bird compositions too!
I've had this error with Sony. In my case the lens did not fully seat. Lens off/Lens on and fixed. I just don't recall if it was the same lens. No waterfall, rain, or even humid air. I'd say Amanda does know how to pose, and with a touch of joy in her expression. She also adds the only red tones in a sea of green. Great shot!
Happy Birthday, Gavin! Not that fifty is old but you look so much younger. I truly love your photography, and the way you walk us through your thoughts is second to none. You’ve been a wonderful teacher and I expect to learn a great deal more. I keep you, Thomas Heaton, Nick Page, and a few others on my UA-cam speed dial so that I get multiple perspectives in developing my own. Thank you. God bless you and Amanda.
Yes, I did enjoy this week's video. I think it is my favorite. You were in a beautiful location and captured some wonderful compositions. Of course, my absolute favorite was the one with Amanda reaching out into the water. That one is going to be your lifetime keeper forever. This was a fun day. 🥰 OH, and happy birthday. I can almost remember back when I was 50. I did some of my strongest outdoor trips between ages 50 and 68. Thirteen years later I'm still going but my horizons have shrunk a great deal. So, you have done some fine work up to this point, Gavin, but your best is still ahead of you.🌄 Looking forward to seeing what kind of camera you get to replace that Sony.
Amazing pic with Amanda! My thought is that landscapes with human elements like a path or bridge almost feel empty if you don’t include a human. Having a person, even a tiny person in the distance adds a bit of life. Also, on the camera issue, my Sony would do the same thing anytime I was in moist conditions. I saw a Pierre T. Lambert video where he complained of the same thing and said it’s due to the hot shoe connector being uncovered and getting even a tiny bit of moisture on it. I put a hotshoe cover on mine and it never happened again. Before I ditched it for Fuji anyway. 😂
Killer episode, killer result, absolutely stunning. Best episode ever, in my view. I'm impressed with what can be accomplished with 4 hours of sleep. I also thought that Sony had landed at the bottom of a cliff quite some time ago. It's time, Gavin. You can let go. You can! And happy 30th birthday - you don't look a day over 50.
Happy Birthday,Gavin! You look, like you just turned 41.........Good Idea,to get "the Misses" a little bit more involved into your Work, that was a great Shot! Keep up the brilliant Work,Greetings from Germany!
What a beautiful memory at 18:58. That is not only book worthy but, cover worthy as well !! Thank you for this production and for highlighting, $ony...LOL
Gavin you and your lovely wife did a fantastic job on this video and photography session Love the fact that you always include at least one way or another That awesome little phrase you gain something you lose something in every photograph that that you take
Happy Birthday 'youngster.' 50 is the new 30,so that makes me '50.' Maybe you should try 'uncle grumpacious' Nikon 850! Great videos, Gavin. Beautiful photo of Amanda too.
Happy Birthday Chap. You've brought me a lot of entertainment lately. I've been bingewatching all of your last few years of videos, in the same way that a Yorkshireman binges on Twirls.
Happy Birthday ya' old fart!! Great video and that photo with Amanda better be in your new book....stunning. PS ....love the humour between you and the wife!
What a marvelous way to celebrate your Birthday. We wish you Many Happy Returns of the Day. The photos are all exquisite but the one of Amanda reaching into the waterfall is magic. And her dress is perfect. A solid wouldn't have worked. Absolutely lovely through and through.
I’ve had the same issue with my A7RV recently. It’s the hot shoe contacts. I used some nail varnish remover on a cotton bud and cleaned the contact section, and it’s resolved it… until it gets wet again 😏
Day after this video aired I was there also. I was camping about 2 hours away in Pairsh, NY. Much closer then home in CT so worth the trip. Made it to the Staircase Falls. Bad air quality today and older fatter and a bad knee too. A couple of cool shots on the way back to my camp site. took a shower and put on my Photo Gasm shirt. I have been wanting to shoot here for a while now.
I LOVE this photo of Amanda - it's soo beautiful! The earllier wide shot of the steps and the railing is gorgeous, too - especially that little hint of the upper fall in the background. So much to like about that shot. BTW, you sure as hell don't look 50. I'd have pegged you for 48 and ten tenths, max.!
The portrait of Amanda is incredible! Everything about this video was fun to watch...one of your best (and you've presented some very good ones in the past!). Happy Birthday...And, yes, you are crawling about like a 50 year old man! :)
Nice work Gav & Amanda, Lovely images, and great to see you two having fun and experimenting. I loved the rustic vibe of the broken down hand rail in the non Amanda version.
Your Sony Rage can be solved if you find or buy the hot shoe cover. Because of the multi-interface connector in the hot shoe, it is sensitive to water.
Happy 30th birthday. You don't look a day over 50. Love that location. I'll have to visit there some day. Always love Amanda's reaction shots in the background.
I smiled all the way through that one. Happy Birthday Gavin! 30… with shots like those mate, you can be whatever age you like! The waterfalls looked like silky vertical light rays, absolutely magnificent shots, and great modelling from Amanda. Hope the knee mends soon.
Great vid and a beautiful mix of classic Hardcastle landscape with environmental portraiture. A lesson on composition building, patience and a few laughs. Great stuff!
Happy birthday young man! Nothing better than watching these episodes every Sunday. My girlfriend is not into photography and this is the only photography channel she likes. Specially because of your great sense of humor. That’s a bummer with the Sony in those conditions, but it‘s never late to try a good reliable Nikon or Canon camera. Cheers from Germany
Gavin........Happy 50th !!! Wish I were 50 again, but hope you enjoy this landmark birthday and continue to do something you enjoy. I am nearing 70 and have been an avid photographer since I was around 10, collecting medium format cameras at that age and then owning a couple of photography businesses and working in professional sports, as a photo journalist and nearly every form of photography. It will be good for your mental and physical health to continue enjoying this hobby and UA-cam vocation as long as you can. Those photos from this video are spectacular. Not sure how you got all of the flipping people (I mean people enjoying nature) out of your shots. Very moody images. Nice job.
A big Happy Birthday and welcome to the club "Fourty-Ten" 😜 Wishing you a day filled with beautiful moments and countless opportunities to capture stunning shots.
Happy Birthday, another great video. I agree the first composition showing the bridge was better the the medium format compositions , it made the photo have more depth with the background behind the bridge.
My favourite video of yours so far. I think Amanda’s moves need a video just for those too! Great final image, kind of classic portrait from early 20th century vibe, brilliant
Awesome vid Gav, and lovely shot of Amanda with the Falls 😎. That place is trezgorgeus! Lol, sorry on the cam front though. Nothing more frustrating than simple things not working. Might be time to switch to Nikon? 🧐, I hear the Z8 calling, lol, and Thomas calling you too, to switch. 😅.
I don't know what it is but tech rage experienced by others just hits my funny bones and makes me laugh uncontrollably. It's like it's the funniest thing in the world to me. Gavin's camera rage was no different. Can't explain it but probably stems from when I was little when my dad had the most hilarious ways of trying to overcome his computer problems!
Jack Benny was only 39! And you don’t look any older than . . . Ok - that was low. I apologize. (50 is still spring chicken territory). What a magnificent shot. And it takes a magnificent model to compliment that kind of environment. I have to agree, I’m not overly fond of that kind of photography, but Amanda totally crushes this one (and so does the 50 year old running the camera). Camera rage aside, you two really nailed this one! Now- do take care of those bones (watching you navigate those steps made my knees hurt - (I’ve replaced one already , the other get a rebuild in a couple of months : it’s no fun!). Best to you both!
Honestly, I'm 30!! www.fototripper.com/store/category/online-photography-courses/
Yeah,right.......:-))))
Gavin then im 30 aswell ha ha ha.
If you're 30, then I'm a great photgrapher!!!
ua-cam.com/video/gTryA-HGH3U/v-deo.html
Were you born in a leap year? Lol
The hot shoe cover on the camera should solve that issue for you. Any kind of water (including humidity) can cause that if you leave the hot shoe cover off.
Wow what a rugged marvel of technology that Sony is 😂 Hasselblad or Fuji , get in touch
Its the hotshoe cover not being in place, as already been said in the comments below. As a precaution I also put some good quality sticky tape over it, in case the cover goes missing when out and about. All hotshoe contacts are vulnerable to water/moisture damage.
The vertical panorama is amazing!! Amanda looks gorgeous in the waterfall. Well done you two, you are a great team.
@ 5:32 you can see the issue of water on the hot shoe, “This accessory (water) is not supported by the device and cannot be used. Please verify the compatibility with the device.” having Amanda pose really made the shot great.
Looking at you from age 72, you're still a mere pup...Happy Birthday!
Happy 20th anniversary of your 30th birthday buddy!
hehehe cheers mate.
Ok, I wanted to only do $50 for age 50 but with inflation it’s only $69.99 - hmmm, was that on purpose ? :)
Have a wonderful Birthday Gavin and all the best to you both .
hehehe, than you very much. We'll enjoy a quality bottle of vino ;)
I love either adding people in or capturing great moments with people in Landscape shots. Awesome locations and comps!
Amanda nailed the innocent atmosphere. You guys will love this shot for the rest of your lives I’m sure!
Beautiful photos - Beautiful Lady. You guys make a great team. Happy birthday!
Happy birthday, Gavin. You definitely look 30+ and the nice thing is that you will stay 30+. The shots from the waterfalls are amazing!!
Happy 30 years old birthday ;) its cool when you do 30 for 20 times. Amanda is such a sport, and amazing photos as usual
Amanda is a bloody good sport Gav.Youre lucky to have her :)
Amanda is beautiful (inside/outside), perfect for these shots. You're so lucky.
The shot with Amanda is juts out of this world
I've had this error with Sony.
Great shot!
Placing a rose in the middle of an otherwise dreary composition is always a great idea! (just steer clear of the thorns)
Happy birthday 🎉
Where is your hotshoe cover Gavin? It's pretty known that Sony cameras don't like water in the hotshoe.
Love the images and nothing cringeworthy about the photo with Amanda! Well done!
Happy Birthday Gavin! Thanks for all your hard work and content. Have a good one 🙂👍
Amazing pic with Amanda! My thought is that landscapes with human elements like a path or bridge almost feel empty if you don’t include a human. Stunning capture and stunning wife ! Amanda, you are pure joy to be laughing at that hour in the morning.
I think you and Amanda nailed that environmental portrait. Happy belated birthday!
Thanks so much for sharing another wonderful video like always 👍👌🤗
Amanda is absolutely beautiful in this shot.
You are a lucky guy!
Happy birthday!
Hills and climbing poles...welcome to your 50's my friend! 🤣 Great shot of Amanda! Amazing location!
Maybe you should use hot shoe cover like Sony intended for weather proofing your camera?
Simply stunning. Amanda is a natural. 👌
Happy “30th” birthday Gavin!! 🎉 You captured some really stunning images!
Love it! ❤ Great shots. Amanda is the best. Happy 30+ Birthday, Gavin!
Happy Birthday,Gavin! You look, like you just turned 41.........Good Idea,to get "the Misses" a little bit more involved into your Work, that was a great Shot! Keep up the brilliant Work,Greetings from Germany!

Gavin you and your lovely wife did a fantastic job on this video and photography session
Love the fact that you always include at least one way or another
That awesome little phrase you gain something you lose something in every photograph that that you take
Happy Birthday Gavin, another great video, love that location and the images are fab, putting Amanda in that last shot really works.
Happy Birthday 'youngster.' 50 is the new 30,so that makes me '50.' Maybe you should try 'uncle grumpacious' Nikon 850!
Great videos, Gavin. Beautiful photo of Amanda too.
Happy Birthjday Gavin! it comes around sooo quick and we all think we are still 30! Thanks for all the laughs ! :)
Happy belated Birthday Gavin !!!! Wonderful images !!!! Amanda in a flower print dress, now there's a photo masterpiece
Happy Birthday! Gorgeous photos and I loved the one with Amanda.
Happy Birthday, Gavin! The shot with Amanda is Epic!
That one with Amanda at the falls is bookworthy.👌
Happy birthday 🎉Gavin
Beautiful photos love the one with Amanda
Great shot of her indoors. Lovely way to celebrate your birthday.
Maybe keep that hotshoe cover on, that message pops up when you get water in there
Happy Birthday Chap. You've brought me a lot of entertainment lately. I've been bingewatching all of your last few years of videos, in the same way that a Yorkshireman binges on Twirls.
Happy birthday🎉 thanks for sharing this amazing journey
Happy Birthday (and kudos to Amanda for posing in the dress despite what looked like a cold morning).
Happy Birthday ya' old fart!! Great video and that photo with Amanda better be in your new book....stunning. PS ....love the humour between you and the wife!
Love the shot with your wife. She's a keeper. Hope your leg get's well. You look okay for 50. You still have your hair!
What a marvelous way to celebrate your Birthday. We wish you Many Happy Returns of the Day. The photos are all exquisite but the one of Amanda reaching into the waterfall is magic. And her dress is perfect. A solid wouldn't have worked. Absolutely lovely through and through.
Happy Birthday Gavin - thanks for all of your videos and pictures. Please give us more! :-)
Happy Birthday Gavin, the photo shoot was amazing, cheers Mate.

Now that's appropriate shirtwear.

Great shot with Amanda!

Joyeux anniversaire cher ami... Toujours très drôle... Huhuhu

Stunning images
Hope your leg gets better soon. Happy belated birthday 🎉
Great vid and a beautiful mix of classic Hardcastle landscape with environmental portraiture.
A lesson on composition building, patience and a few laughs. Great stuff!
I used to live there in my growing up years. I love the finger lakes region of New York.
Happy Birthday Gavin!😁🍾🎂
Edit: You song inspector Gadget, that’s awesome😂😂😂. I’m a fellow Gen X appreciating it😁
Happy birthday young man! Nothing better than watching these episodes every Sunday. My girlfriend is not into photography and this is the only photography channel she likes. Specially because of your great sense of humor.

stay up late, get up early and you don't need to photoshop the people out ;)
Beautiful location, excellent images and what a great idea to get Amanda involved like that - she’s a natural 👍❤️
A big Happy Birthday and welcome to the club "Fourty-Ten" 😜
Wishing you a day filled with beautiful moments and countless opportunities to capture stunning shots.
"Bugger off before the hordes arrive" - great sentiment from a fellow Yorkshireman!
Happy Birthday, another great video. I agree the first composition showing the bridge was better the the medium format compositions , it made the photo have more depth with the background behind the bridge.

Happy Birthday Gavin, thanks for the laughs all these years. Thanks to Sony for the laughs also, can't forget them!!
Congrats and welcome to the club🎉
Please put the hotshot cover in mate. You probably know that though! Great vid as usual. 👍📷
Happy Day, Gavin...another trip around the sun, stay well my friend.
The vertical panorama was excellent
Beautiful shots
Awesome vid Gav, and lovely shot of Amanda with the Falls 😎. That place is trezgorgeus! Lol, sorry on the cam front though. Nothing more frustrating than simple things not working. Might be time to switch to Nikon? 🧐, I hear the Z8 calling, lol, and Thomas calling you too, to switch. 😅.
100% The shot closer to the bridge. Love the veil created by the cascade
really enjoying watching you capture this amazing waterfall. Thanks Gavin! And I love that portrait of Amanda!
Happy Birthday!!!! Love the content
