My man, you’re the only person who make this easy. Have to go all around UA-cam trying to find the best, fast n easy way to do the exact work you’re doing. You make my day. Thanks so much👍👍👍
The hardest part of this job for me was the darn electronic brake connector. I couldn't get it off to save my life. very clear and informative video , thank you.
I always thought there was more to those electronic E-Brake sensor setups. That's a lot easier than i was picturing. Thanks for the clear video on it, really helpful.
Thanks for this video! I'm so used to the older vehicles where this is an easy job and I've been sitting out in the cold for 2 hours before finding this video and immediately getting it done after finding it
Great video. showed me what to expect, what tools I would need and how to do it. made this very easy on me and gave me confidence to do it myself. completed in less than an hour. (pads and rotors)
Thank goodness I found this tutorial before I replaced my mk 10 (UK) rear brake pads - other videos didn't include the EPB retraction process, without which damage will clearly occur. Nice one Daniel!
Worked on a lot of motor stuff but never trusted myself with brakes, until this video. Thanks again seriously! Follow his advice guys and gals and it will go smoothly!
your video was the only that actually showed what needed to be done. I just spent 3 hours and $65 dollars trying to replace the rear breaks on my civic
Thanks so much! This is a job I have to do next week. I had heard there was some extra step because of the electronic parking brake. You made very clear and easy to understand. Even I can do that!
Pal thank you so much for your video. I was able to replaced my rear brakes today. I was really looking how to do it without spending all that money on a scanner to reset the EPB. ❤
Followed your video everything went great I did not take The E brake plug off too hard to get off I left it on but did everything else that you did the power was off anyways so it doesn’t matter if the plug is either off or on Everything went great thank you
You rock! Just replaced both rear brakes and rotors of my ‘17 Civic. After watching your video, they were a snap! The only thing that was difficult was the rotor set screw. One of them was so torqued I had to go buy a set of Ryobi cordless tools that included the impact driver. A couple of whacks with that and it came right out. Thanks so much for the great video and explanation!!!
Sandivar - changing brakes and rotors on my Honda and having same issue with TIGHT rotor set screw. You mentioned using and impact driver...how? Thanks!
Sucks that these cars have throw away parts now. You pretty much gotta buy more pads often or buy rotors and pads. Great video man. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for putting this video together. I carefully followed it on my 2017 Civic EXT and didn't have any trouble (no brake light afterwards). What I did notice is that when I jack up the rear of the car and I give the rear wheels a good spin with one hand, it only makes a little bit more than a whole turn after I released them... when it should be around 2.5 times if I am not mistaken. I am saying this because I noticed the drop in MPG... I guess because there is some increased friction on the rear brakes. What steps would you take to troubleshoot this scenario? Grease the caliper pins? Thank you in advance.
The problem was the caliper's pins. I greased them better this time and I also greased all the other brake parts. I am getting +50 mpg on my 2017 Civic EX-T!!! You can see the "wheel revolutions" test here: ua-cam.com/video/0wX7ISUY3hk/v-deo.html This video shows how I greased the front brakes as an example: ua-cam.com/video/Cr7v6KarX6A/v-deo.html
Thank you sooooo much for your video it helped me so much especially the electronic parking brake I’ve done brakes before I would be able to figure it out without doing damage to the system I picked up the alen set and brake grease for next time thanks again 👍👍👍🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷
From what i understand the way he did it is safe if being done manually. There is a video out there that is done wrong where a guy doesnt disassemble the E e brake amd just uses a c clamp to push the piston in which is a no no because hes pushing all the break fluid. And run the risk of messing up the electric e brake.
Ditto on the ebrake. The other vid I watched did not have that feature. It had me scratching my head for a bit until I found your video. Thanks a bunch dude!
I have an optima with similar electronic parking brake system. Instead of opening the module up you can remove the electronic plug that gives it power and use a 9v battery with aligator clips to back the piston out. Place the positive and negative on each terminal within module and you'll hear the piston making noises. You can switch the positive and negative terminals if you notice the piston extending instead of doing nothing.
Thank you for this video. I wish I would have found it a week ago. I hired a mobile mechanic to replace my rear pads and rotors on my 2020 Civic sedan. After the job was done, the parking brake problem warning lights started and haven’t gone away. The brakes work fine and even the parking brake can be turned on and off as normal. I can hear the parking brake motor when I turn it on and the parking brake is on as the car won’t start to roll while in drive or neutral. But the parking brake button red light keeps flashing along with the brake problem notification on the dash screen. Any suggestions on what steps to take at this point? Should I assume that the calipers are not damaged since everything works well?
@@eveliomoreno I had the same mobile mechanic come back. I showed him some UA-cam videos and then we did what was suggested. First he disconnected the car battery. Then he took off the wheels and then connected a 9V battery (using 2 wires) to the motor for the parking brake. We heard the motor wind up the parking brake. He did that a few times until he figured out parking brake was in the released position. Then he put it all back together. Connected the battery. I started the car. The system said to drive safe while it was calibrating everything. I drove around the block. Then the warning brake problem lights all came back on. I pulled over, put the car in park, turned the parking brake on and then it would not turn back off. I couldn’t move the car at all as the parking brake was engaged and wouldn’t release. Then I remembered another video I watched about holding down the parking brake button to reset it. I held it for 60 seconds. Then FINALLY everything was working again and all warning lights turned off. Since then, the car has been driven a thousand miles and there have been no problems. I can try to find the videos that showed how to connect a 9V battery and how to reset the button. Just let me know if you need them. Keep in mind, just resetting the button will not fix everything without first messing with the parking brake motor as I tried doing that over and over beforehand and it did nothing.
Glad you found a fix we get calls about this same situation all the time. The electronic E brakes are some what new and unfortunately, Honda didn't make it easy for DIYers or for guys who don't work in a shop with access to manufacturers specs etc ...
Will it matter if the inner pad has the wear tab reversed from the original removal? I noticed feeler gauge was replaced forward, rather than on the backwards position.
You typically want the wear tab to be on the inboard pad because it wears faster than the outboard. However, some vehicles are reversed. We always install the wear indicator on the inboard pad.
Thanks Dan! So you don't have to grease slider pins like on traditional calipers? And if I'm just doing brake service to make sure the pads move freely I don't need to do anything with the e brake? Thanks again!
Great video. I have to do a 2016 soon. It has 6 winters of water and salt so may not be so easy. Thanks for posting. Ps: be careful with that electrical connector on the parking brake motor. It is easy to damage where the wires join the contacts inside the cap.
You shouldn't need to reset the light. If you followed the video procedure and you have an error light, I would double-check all of your plugs and be sure they are plugged in all the way.
Do you do this job with the ignition on the entire time? The reason I ask is because if you turn off the ignition it will automatically apply the handbrake. I was wondering if you have the ignition on, won't it put a warning light on when you disconnect the motor wiring, i.e. detect an open circuit? Thank you.
I was going to ask exactly the same question. So ignition is off when you do this. So the handbrake is on whilst you do the brake pad change the whole time?
I always thought the handbrake would come on automatically when you turned off the ignition. This is not the case. Simply put on the ignition, release the handbrake, and then turn off the ignition, the hand brake will stay off, allowing you to carry out the work.
My man, you’re the only person who make this easy. Have to go all around UA-cam trying to find the best, fast n easy way to do the exact work you’re doing.

Awesome! Any issues with warning lights or brake lights after doing them?
Excellent example of how a DIY tutorial should be made. Very clear and straightforward directions with quality lighting and sound. Thank you!!!
The hardest part of this job for me was the darn electronic brake connector. I couldn't get it off to save my life. very clear and informative video , thank you.
After watching several videos, yours is hands down the best. Thanks for taking the time and explaining how to handle the electric rear brake!
I always thought there was more to those electronic E-Brake sensor setups. That's a lot easier than i was picturing. Thanks for the clear video on it, really helpful.
Literally made this account to say how much easier this made things for me, no advertisement no bullshit this guy is the man

Thanks!
Thanks! Glad it helped
I was dreading doing this. It looks so simple now, amazing video!

Yo, you saved me a massive headache with this video. Thanks for what you do!
Just did rear pads and rotors on my friend's 19 Civic. Parking brake procedure Worked as you said thank you.
Doing the same on my '19 Civic next week. Seems pretty simple.
your video was the only that actually showed what needed to be done. I just spent 3 hours and $65 dollars trying to replace the rear breaks on my civic
Outstanding tutorial, well explained and filmed. Made doing the job on my 2017 civic a breeze. Thanks for posting.

Thanks after reinstalling the old pads and putting everything back together I can call my customer back now that I know how to do it the proper way
Glad I could help
Saved me tons of money, Thanks. By the way put some WD40 on that Hydraulic jack. Had my headphones on. LOL
Excellent video I have to do soon my 2016 honda civic
Thank you very much for posting, extremely useful DIY video!!
We have a 17 civic, thanks it needs pads and rotors all the way around. I knew Ithe back was different, thanks.

You don't need the brake pad hardware clips?
No hardware on these other than the retaining clip

I haven't had any issues but I have seen others complain about the wire issue. With everything mechanical thinking/working through problems is key.
Do you have to install that spring back on?
How do you reset the brake system light after changing the rear pads?
You shouldn't need to reset the light. If you followed the video procedure and you have an error light, I would double-check all of your plugs and be sure they are plugged in all the way.
Thank you for the video very good diy
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks for the video- helped immensely!!
Do I need to set the car in electronic parking brake before doing this? First time doing a DIY rotor change
Good job thanks
when do u plug the power back into the electric power brake do you it at end of?
Great video
Great video keep it up 👍
Did you use oem pads or aftermarket???
Thanks! Very helpful video.
Do you do this job with the ignition on the entire time? The reason I ask is because if you turn off the ignition it will automatically apply the handbrake. I was wondering if you have the ignition on, won't it put a warning light on when you disconnect the motor wiring, i.e. detect an open circuit? Thank you.
No the ignition should be off

I always thought the handbrake would come on automatically when you turned off the ignition. This is not the case. Simply put on the ignition, release the handbrake, and then turn off the ignition, the hand brake will stay off, allowing you to carry out the work.
You forgot to reattach the electrical clip to the parking break. Do you do that after new pads are on and everything is bolted back together??
It was a mix up I went back and plugged it in after the video was over
Do you have to turn on your parking break ?
Any issues unplugging the connector?
does this work on 2020 civic si?
Yes
@@danthebrakemanthankyou sir✨🙏🏻 you saved me dollars for bringing it to the shop
