- Plagued by overloaded servers, queueing bugs, and slightly embarrassing issues with cooked-off graphics cards, New World is nevertheless quite an interesting entry to the MMO-Lite market. Combining an excellent fishing mini-game, a pretty world and rather delightful pirate hats, New World is certainly going to be fun for a week or two.

Reminds me of greed fall. Both are good ideas but just dont appeal to me. I've never met a game before that was so well crafted and still got bored so after greed fall I'm not getting this.

At least Greedfall was playable and bug free on launch date. It's not that bad actually. It's very similar to Dragon Age 2, except better because it's not made by EA.

Quitting WoW after several years playing is the best decision I've made in my gamer life. No way in hell for me to get interested in yet another MMORPG. But I always have fun with your videos so thanks. Awesome intro btw... you got me there for half a second.

Wouldn't go so far as to say I have been binge watching your videos, but I have watched a fair few of them over the past couple of weeks, and you do a really good job. Your reviews in particularly, are nicely balanced, neither harsh or gushing, just fair. And always amusing.

I saw a picture of someone in best in slot gear. It was torn clothing, a blue glowy spear that lacked detail and some other items that looked like Warcraft starter junk. I was surprised, as the art seems to contain all sorts of iconic conquistador and sinister cursed looking gear. Apparently players dont get given that, or if they do, its so terrible, nobody uses it.

You know what I would buy? A "New World" game where you can play Team Deathmatches as either the Aztecs, Mayans or Spaniards. That would be legendary.
It always amazes me how people fanboy for games like this, they have an ounce of fun and then dedicate their lives to defending its honor.

My character is a black guy with mutton chops and an afro named phallic blackwood. However my friends who's character is named trigger, got banned and had to have a meeting with the community managers and explain to them why he should be able to keep his name. He's had the name trigger since Xbox live in 2003

How do you think I feel being a very early player of Everquest? Sure, it was rough and it was tough, and playing such through a dial-up modem could be rage inducing... but I wouldn't trade that experience for the world. 😂

Game was bought for me by a friend, I tried playing the game but the first few days of the game being live. One faction went around the entire map and took everything. Any other factions gathering players to resist was mass reported and banned. They openly bragged about being able to do this. If they found out you were leading a guild, you couldn't play.
the fishing minigame is the *real* secret to any mmo's longevity.
Its a really satisfying fishing game mate. Far Cray series somehow manage to make fishing unpleasant, but the mechanics in New World make fishing a thoroughly enjoyable experience. And I think you are right. If a game has a mini-game that is enjoyable in its own right, then the potential playtime skyrockets. Not quite the same thing, but I found the hunting in RDR2 so enjoyable I would disappear for days into the mountains hunting and get totally absorbed in it. Thanks for watching mate.

This has me intrigued, but I have a 3070TI and now I'm fuckin' paranoid that a game is gonna brick my GPU. I didn't wait three hours outside of a Best Buy for a chance to buy it just see it fried from a new game, lmao
Go to JayzTwoCents and watch his selection of videos on it mate. He does some bench testing theory crafts the issue. The TLDR is that whatever you do with your software, somehow the game still manages to cause big spikes in power consumption. I would be very cautious until something is done about resolving the issue Justin.

It looks like someone played GreedFall, thought that it was a shame that it was single player only then made steps to amend that.
Which is understandable as GreedFall really is a fun game. I wouldn’t say it is a masterpiece, but it was very much worth a play through. I may even do a second run through this winter. I think Spiders has been a bit of a sleeper studio, slowly but surely improving. They made great strides since Elex.

now i have gone from 18768 queues to zero .got 2 chars to 30 and started another new char due to said queues . im at level 30 again level 80+ on all crafting apart from furniture i play solo and i bloody love it boyo just like your content 😎👌

Amazon are good for a laugh at least. Hopefully they will realize sooner rather than later they should stick to what they are good at, selling fake and in some cases illegal crap as clearly they are useless at making video games. Even if they purchased every franchise I love they will never get me to play their trash.
This game sounds like No Man's Sky... except there's actual PVP.
I like NMS, but its a ton of random stuff: pointless mechanics, useless items and resources, crafting and cooking because Video Game and a billion things to do to eat up hours of your day.
Replace Fishing with ship hunting.
Don't get me wrong, I criticize because I love NMS.
But as an online RPG, you never even really see another player and PVP is not quite broken... its near impossible. Good thing... no greifing.
I know several NMs players who left to play New World.
Some of my favorite streamers are doing New World now... and its boring AF to watch and difficult for me to give a shit at all about it. Its like a monster made of RDR Valheim NMS WoW and Skyrim... like the devs said "lets just rip off everything, and then pick an era of History nobody has done before so we can claim its different and original.
Maybe works a treat with my ole rx 480 (frame limited in radeon 'chill' software) but it blows up rtx 3080 / 3090's.

Actually thats interesting. It IS surprisingly gore-free. Ok thats something I need to look into. Btw Chinese censors also have a thing about zombies, dead bodies, gambling and sex. A lot of the "undead" in the game are very "zombie-ish", so Im interested to see how this game fairs in China.

The problem is nvidia allowed its partners to use SHITTY voltage controllers than the founders design (the UP9511) which are dumb as hell and can't regulate the power draw that 3090s are designed to draw. It's all on nvidia. If they didn't allow their partners to cut costs on critical components this wouldn't have been an issue. 2000$ cards being killed over the decision to pinch literal pennies from the bill of materials at production.
And I say this as a nvidia fan boy.
I had a hard crash on my AMD 6800xt with a VGA error on my motherboard after 6 hrs. I uninstalled when i rebooted and got my video back. I'll sacrifice 40$ over 800$ all day.
So New World has improved a lot since release, and I've been there since beta. It still has plenty of issues, most of them technical. It is, however, a beautiful game, and the developers consistently improve the game and add content, and so far that has all been free since the game has no subscription and currently no DLC. As far as I can tell even the major expansion zone, Brimstone Sands may be free.
I am not ashamed to say that New World is my favorite mmo and I believe in its future success.
With that said, hilarious review as always.

Even if there were no queues, the game sucks. All you do is gather the same resource over and over again while using the same three weapon skills to kill the same three enemy asset models. How is this game not free? Amazon capitalized on the hype that is for sure.
I kind of hope FarCry 6 is okay. At least the actor's performance as the big bad. He's done good work before so I'd hate to see him go to waste.

I am still 36h into it, but I waited until october 8th to purchase it because I'm old enough to know better... until I don't and I get bent with some crap launch. Fortunately, I had friends doing the probing for me and enjoying the waiting simulator so I didn't have to.
So far the experience has been silky smooth. It runs well, I haven't waited a single time and it hasn't crashed. It also gives me good DaoC vibes, and that's a game that had me hooked for years.
We'll see what's at the end of the level grind. Hopefully it's not The Division 2.

Thank you Inigo. For what its worth the queues have started to clear up for me too now. I think they vastly underestimated the demand in the EU. In the winter months the whole of Scandinavia gets very cold, and they love their MMOs. I think the launch date was timed pretty well to catch the start of that "indoor-migration".
