- Unsurprisingly, MOST games published in 2021 WERE a complete, unmitigated disaster. At least by discussing them I hoped to experience some kind of cathartic healing, but I just got more angry.

I thought the same thing as soon as they said there's no campaign. Why would anyone pay full price for a game with a huge part of it missing? Don't care if you don't play campaign, it's a huge part of the package and only a dummy is cool with losing it for no reason
We have the gaming industry we deserve. Stop pre-ordering and supporting predatory monetization systems.
I stopped proselytizing about such once the penny dropped that there are 10's of millions of naïve, impressionable kids being sucked into this vortex each and every year... and that's the target consumer. Your sage advice will very largely fall on deaf ears to those masses who are having their VTAs tickled - ventral tegmental area; the so-called “pleasure centre” of the brain.
No be smarter about your pre orders. I think good companies that focus on quality games and listen to their audience we should show our support. Now once that trust is broken(CDPR) then that company should no longer be supported. But AA studios and studios like Techland who focus on the fans and genuinely want to make a great game should be supported. But yes I agree as far as the main AAA games should never be pre ordered any longer. Cyberpunk 2077 was when I felt the most betrayed

OK, personally, I'm not interested in having a 'cool'/advantageous pre-order item(s) for a game anyway, let alone for a game that's likely to be shite anyway... and there is a strong correlation between those two things.
Hey, I'm looking forward to Elden Ring, but I'm sure not going to pre-order it, and I'm not even going to buy it for at least 2-4 weeks until after launch, ESPECIALLY as it was "nominated" (like by who?) "Most Anticipated Game of the Year at the Game Awards". Like, wtf is that now? I've never seen such before!
Basic law of 'free-market economics'; if you have a worthy, cost balanced product, people will buy it. It won't need no "Most Anticipated..." pre-launch award that some marketing consultancy just pulled out of their arse.

Cant get over assaulting up a elevator and air dropping in tanks not only made it past rhe first design meeting. It actually made it into a AAA game on multiple maps.
I think the absolute last thing a combat team wants to do is fight in an elevator lol

You know, the train of thought that defends a blatantly unfinished game by saying, "it's live-service; it's not supposed to be finished" is what allows companies to get away with the sh** they pull. People can be such sheep.
Live service should be a warning sign to stay far away from the game.
The writing was on the wall for BF2042 from BF vagina. Nothing ruins your immersion more than seeing 20 identical Japanese Geisha's running around in ruins on Rotterdam.

My ass still hurts from the right royal fucking Tod the lier Howard gave me. For battlefield , call of duty I have never played the game ever. I just think PVP is lazy development so they don't have to make new content. You know the line ( Games are better with Freinds ) Bullshit that's just a way to say we don't want to make more content we just want to sell shit cosmetics.

Same. I was dumb enough to get the tricentennial edition for $80 out of my ignorance. I was blinded by the idea of finally having a online fallout.. And paid dearly for it. I maybe have 8 hours in it, and even after all the updates, it doesn't interest me in the least.. especially with how linear they made the gunplay.. or melee-play I should say, because ammo is so incredibly rare and expensive, melee is all your forced to use in early and mid game. I will never pre-order another game as long as I live. Even if it's a franchise I'm absolutely in love with.

Congratulations to DICE for eking out the WGOTY award from under Activision and Ubisoft. I'm sure they're more than ecstatic considering this is the first award they've won in half a decade
I'm sick and tired of developers releasing half baked pieces of shit and then expecting to fix it later. And I still don't understand how people can defend this. The last time Dice made a game that actually worked as intended upon release was I think Battlefield 1 but maybe even before that. I hope that this year people actually learn and that they won't buy the games on release next year, so that maybe these shit developers will get their acts together

Yeah. Back when Anthem was in its earliest betas, back when nobody could play and people EA and Bioware should have gotten sued into the fucking dirt, the cash shop worked. People could buy cosmetics in the closed/open beta, whichever it was, whilst the game remained completely broken and totally unplayable.
One of the most positive things I found out about was an indie game called Everspace 2 having a DEMO of all things. An early access title. And it works. Zero bugs. Zero crashes. Not even debris getting stuck unmovable inside geometry.
Interesting. I took one look at the mech suits in Anthem when it was first announced and thought "the entire game will pivot around microtransactions for your suit". Ive played a bit of Everspace 2. Its decent.

Far Cry 6 was the biggest smack in the face to me. 5ft, red hair women killing thousands of soldiers while ranting about trans rights and being vegan. Every leader is a strong female twitter user. In real rebellion, these issues are the LEAST of the problems and none of this occurs. Everything about it made no sense they shoved so much box-ticking and woke politics the plot made no sense. Like a Frankenstein monster. The gameplay after an hour you did everything the game has to offer you just repeat the same missions, side activities, collectables hundreds of times. SO LAZY, stole my money.

I like how EA calls them legacy features, when they are literally the defining mechanics of battlefield basically it's foundation and skeleton that the entire game should be built around

I do love this channel, even when the videos are about things I have no interest in, I still watch and enjoy them, the sarcasm and dry wit is top notch and I love the brutal honesty. Beats watching some of the other game review channels out there that seem to strain themselves into finding the positives of shit games, shit practices and shit companies, instead of just saying it how it is. I haven't wanted to play a AAA title for many years, but I wasn't born in the captivity of the modern games market, unlike any one under 30.
I missed you. This is currently my favorite channel. Well, this one and Crawbcat.
I managed to play the Outriders demo until the game made a Jan. 6 reference and I rolled my eyes, uninstalled and never went back.
Good thing I'm from on older generation who like the games mostly for single-player/campaign mode and for this partial reason I buy older games at usually 2-7 dollars now, including AAA games. This way I avoid unfinished, unpached, broken, pay-for-"beta" test, game-as-a-service trap, etc.

Beats preordering AND purchasing on first day, and not even having to deal with weeks after of social media backlash for trying to sell a beta.
The sandwich I bought yesterday isn't a beta and tastes pretty good, 10/10 would sandwich again.

One of the many great appeals of the Battlefield Franchise is that you're one grunt amongst a hundred other grunts on a battlefield, but in BF2042 everyone looks and acts like a main character.

My gripe with Outriders centred around the developers rebalancing the mechanics and destroying methods of playing in a game that isn't competitive multiplayer.

I would love to compile a list of crappy producer studios - so when they go shopping or eating - we give them just a part of what they ordered - macdonalds - just the bun - with a note - its a live service burger - wait until u eat the buns - then come back and order the meat - then the lettuce - then the condiments. Sure they would get the message quick.
Or - I am working in the hotel - I would hand them a picture of the key - then an (not- correctly coded key) - then 50 keys (not one correctly coded) and when they finally ask for a refund or moving room - I would say oopsie - you just agreed to our service agreements! Lets see later if the live service is working and we an make you a key. 5 Days later - we make a key - but the room is Empty. Same Spiel starts again.
This year, Hunt: Showdown kneecapped the previously very generous provisions of premium currency earned through gameplay and introduced a masked fucking lootbox. And most of the community is defending it.
I love this game to death, but if they push it a single inch further, I will uninstall. Fuck this monetisation bullshit.

Update: Uninstalled when the next update dropped. They are continuing to casualize the game while game breaking exploits go unaddressed for weeks, making the game actually unplayable. The servers were slowly getting worse before but now they are fucking dreadful, with even the best connections getting connection errors every other game. There are cosmetic DLCs with every minor update, and yet another store tab has just been hyped up as if they thought we actually want more cosmetics and not like, actual server/gameplay improvements and bug fixes.
I've downgraded Crytek from "they fucked up my favorite game" to "NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM CRYTEK EVEN AGAIN, HOLY SHIT"
And to think, they pulled Cyberpunk off digital shelves and storefronts....but 2042 wasn't?

The key words for usually bad games are all here, EA, Activision, Ubisoft, live service, and yearly sports games. They are also key word to wait 4-6 months and sometimes a year before purchase since some of them may end up free to play or on sale for around 80%.

I did swear after BF5 I wouldn't pre-order again. And I didn't pre-order 2042, but after the beta and reviews I thought it was worth a go and got it day one because it did look convincing enough....... but a few weeks in.......... never again.

@Sunny Jim a lot of people like to watch things that bolster their already entrenched opinions. subconsciously wanting to be swayed. It's a very human condition. Getting in on the hype is all part of it for some people. It's like a drug. The fear of not being on ground zero when the new thing releases. Its sad really, to see how willfully ignorant mankind is.....

As chance would have it, my friend, who is a vet and has had a stroke, bought Outriders and asked me for help rebinding keys (his left arm is basically useless) and I just pointed him to your video and he got a refund for the game.

The moment I saw the throwback references in the BF 2042 reveal trailer with the renezook (midair RPG to a jet) and the quad on a roof taking out a helicopter, it screamed desperation to the fanbase, exactly like the BF V reveal trailer had the old school Battlefield theme in the Jeep segment. How people didn’t see that coming baffled me.
