      @@Lophophorawilliamsii I personally do not soak my grains most of the time. I just rinse them really well prior to cooking. If you have any digestive issues with grains, soaking them may be beneficial, but is not necessary.

    Great idea to cook ahead and then freeze.

    For Digest Upset: Another good and tried and true reason to soak at least overnight....like beans. Is there a list somewhere of grains that are compatible timewise for cooking together besides the ones you did today?

    • @showmemovegan
      @showmemovegan  Рік тому

      I don't have any list right now, but I should make one! I find that most wheat berries, rye, barley, sorghum, and whole oat groats cook well at 30 minutes. Brown rice for about 22 minutes, millet about 8 minutes, amaranth and teff for 6 minutes, steel cut oats 5 minutes, and quinoa 3 minutes. So if you wanted to combine grains with a different cook time, just choose the longer time, but know the others might be a little overcooked. And if you're soaking overnight, you may want to cook a slightly shorter time. In general, I've heard that you can cut the normal stove-top cook time by half or a third. So for example if it says 60 minutes on the stovetop, you could do 20-30 minutes in the IP. I like my grains cooked very well so I usually cook a little longer. The Instant Pot website also has some cook time charts: instantpot.com/instantpot-cooking-time/#tab-id-2 and I've added this to the description box of my video as well. Hope that helps!

    Hi, great video and idea about combining grains. I had a question though, did you set to cook on high or low for the pressure?
    Thank you.

    I would suggest soaking grain mixture overnight as well which will remove some components that might bother people. Same as with the beans....

      The brand is LiveFresh, and I got it on Amazon. It's called "LiveFresh Stainless Steel Micro-Perforated 5-Quart Colander - Professional Strainer with Heavy Duty Handles"

    How long would you cook einkorn grains?

    • @showmemovegan
      @showmemovegan  Рік тому +1

      It depends on how well done you like your grains, but 20 minutes at high pressure should be long enough for einkorn by itself. If you have any digestive concerns with grains, you might also soak them overnight first, and then you could probably cook at high pressure for just 15 minutes. I personally like my grains a little softer, so I also do a natural release to soften them a little more. But if you like a more firm texture you can do a quick release.
