Thank you. I am a 51 year old man who loves to cook, but I have not ever used the instant pot. My wife was gone today and I decided to try it, but could not figure out the buttons. I watched this video and it was so simple. The chicken is cooking in it now and the kids should be fed soon. Now I have all kinds of ideas for how to use it. Thank you for the simple explanation.
Young lady you are my saviour. I bought an Instant Pot here in Thailand, I opened it and looked at it for several days. My cat who knows everything was even confused. Thankyou so much much for your video. Many many thanks.😁😼
I went to my local thrift store to find a rice cooker. I found a good one, but the gal who runs the shop showed me this brand new, in the box, instant pot pressure cooker that she just got in. She showed me all the cool stuff I could do with it, compared to the rice cooker, and she recommended your channel for directions and recipes.... I went ahead and got the instant pot, now here I am. Hi👋
As a visual learner, I’m so grateful for this video! I’m an experienced cook but have always been afraid of pressure cookers. But I’m facing my fears in order to make my own beans and save money/sodium.
I absolutely love you, lady. No joke, I got one of these for Christmas a couple years ago and it barely made it out of the box before it was back in, the buttons, lid, it was all too overwhelming. I have never used a pressure cooker before, always just used my trust crockpot but I don't have it anymore. Also, I low key was afraid I would set it wrong and it would explode, and blow a hole in my kitchen. (LOL) Anyway, I was going to re-gift this or trade it for something I could comprehend, lol. That was, till I watched this. I am going to pull my pot out tonight and try making some chicken breast. I think I can handle it now, so THANK YOU for this!!!!!
Best ever, glad I wrote your site down. You make more sense that 100 of those ladies who really try to make sense , and then it's the next day, and you still are confused. Awesome. Thank you. From a single guy.
You are a wonderfully accomplished and engaging presenter. As a Senior of a certain age I have finally managed to get around to buying an IP, following my son's example. This is the video where I 'found' you, just last night, and I am looking forward to many hours of browsing both the tips and the recipes. It's wonderful that you have provided a series of Recipes that are intro level. And you are the only one I have come across to emphasize the importance of NOT transporting the pot by the handle - filled, empty or otherwise! Cheers.
My daughter bought me one a few years back for Christmas. After ripping off the wrapping paper. She said be very careful, you could get seriously burned. I put the box away. Today I am going to try it, thanks to your video's. Its 95 degrees out in October October..Didn't want to cook. Now I can.
7/11/23: This video was extremely informative (I saw your "what not to do" video as well) and I took good written and mental notes. I'm waiting for my delivery person to bring my 8 qt. IP to me today and I'm so excited. I've done my homework between what you've shared and others I've watched over the past 2 weeks, so I'm ready to tackle this monster of a machine. Thank you for your expertise in carving the way for those of us who are new to this product. I hope to become as knowledgeable over time so that I can whip out a meal whenever I need to safely. 😃
I took delivery of mine yesterday. I've had a stove-top WMF (I live in Germany) pressure cooker for over 10 years, but I hate having to hang around the cooker to keep an eye on it. It's also - now - far too big for me (I think 5-6 litre capacity and all of my birds have flown the nest so it's just me now 😁. I'm 62 and provide a hot lunch (with a colleague) on weekdays for ca. 140 x 6-10 year old schoolkids. I lose interest every now and again in cooking for myself but my mum (83, widow since May this year) LOVES cooking and is always sending me youtube links :) She recommended some videos, which I watched, and then I found you and I thought I might give this a go. I have the small instant pot, which is more than enough for me, and I'm looking forward to making the most of it :)
This is literally EXACTLY me. Got my instant pot in late 2021, and never used it. Finally plucked up the courage to take it out, clean all the dust off, and started looking at youtube tutorials. And I found this video!
Thanks! I use 10 qt. I learned to make spaghetti with meat sauce in my insta pot. My son is Autistic has only a few foods he can eat. For a large batch of spaghetti, I upgrade to the 10 qt, because of the amount of liquid I need to cover the "cooked" ground beef, spaghetti noodles and marina sauce, without going over the max line. I also use the large one for the same reasons for NOLA red beans and rice with ham bones. He doesn't like the red beans and rice, but I make it occasionally for my friends and family. But I do use it every Sunday to easily make a large batch of spaghetti for the week for him. I just found your videos, and thanks for explaining the buttons!
Thank you so much!! I am brand new to pressure cooking and received my new Instant Pot Duo+ a week ago and have been resistant to try. I now feel a little more confident and ready to have a go!! Thank you!
You might want to consider buying the latest lid as I bought the 8 quart Duo and it is a seal/vent switch that automatically always switches it to seal every time you put the lid on, not simply turning the knob to seal or vent. I'm only suggesting this because some people might be very confused that you're using the old model lid where they have a switch
I just bought one with that feature and can't find a review anywhere that goes over that new feature or the new seal/vent sliding button. I have the 7 in 1 duo and just got it at Target
Oh thanks, I was struggling with the pressure buttons , and then I looked up mine , and noticed it seal’s automatically when you close lid !! So I almost burned myself good tip
Oh my goodness thank you for this!!!! Our little 6qt beauty has been sitting in the pantry for a year! I love the thoughtful and thorough explanations.
Yep! I bought my IP 10 months ago. And then talked myself out of using it because it would be too difficult, complicated and dangerous. Tonight I finally got over my self-induced fear and cooked quinoa in it. It was great! Lentil soup will be next!
Thank you for making the Istant pot make sense! I’ve read manual, watched other videos and got more confused, now I’m looking forward to finally using my pot I bought a year ago!
Yesterday I made eggs(2 minute profile!) in my Duo Nova. I set it and came back 5 minutes later. Steam was coming out around the lid, and then it occurred to me that I had left the sealing ring in the dishwasher. I ended up running the pot dry, again without thinking. Eggs came out fine somehow, but dont be me. Always check the sealing ring is in place. Always!
I just used my new Instant Pot DUO two nights ago. The starting instructions included w/ the IPD really don't explain very well how to use it. I made some chicken, and had issues with understanding the display and how the IPD operates. THANK YOU for making this very informative video, it answered all my questions.
Thank you for being SO articulate and thorough! Your videos are a pleasure to watch and VERY informative! I no longer hate dragging my instant pot out of the cupboard! 😂🎉🎉🎉
I love my Instant Pot and use it 3-4 times a week. I never thought of using the Sauté function AFTER pressure cooking, good to know it’s an option. Your tutorials are VERY helpful!
Thank you for introducing me to the Instant pot. Also, you are an excellent instructor and it is so refreshing to hear someone who doesn’t drop or silence the t in words like button and important.
I've got an Instant Pot Viva that I bought on clearance at my local Canadian Tire for $110, from $180 original retail price. I looked at the date code, and it was manufactured in 2019. It automatically sets itself to sealed when I put on the lid, and I push a button to release the steam. It also has an awesome sauté temperature. Like, I can brown meat so well in it! I sometimes have to turn it back because it will burn at the More setting if I'm leaving the food to brown without stirring. It's definitely comparable to my stovetop settings.
I have an instant pot and I use it. Not all the time but use it now and then. I love the instant pot . I have a crock pot I use and a Dutch oven so I try to use them all during the month. Never had an electric pressure cooker till I was in my 50’s. Love my instant pot! I love getting ideas and new recipes . So helpful. My mom had the pressure cooker you use on the stove that you put a knob on and it rocks. TFS.
You are SUCH a good teacher, I was going to ask if you are a teacher by training -- then I saw you have 244K subscribers, so you are clearly teaching full time I assume :)
Thank you for this video! I bought my pot about 3 years ago and probably have used it a handful of times. Today, I wanted to cook some greens and forget to not press the delay start button. Now, everything’s working alright after your instructions.
I've been using a Drew & Cole pressure cooker 4.8l for a while now, best thing since the invention of the Air Fryer. But had to upgrade recently as needed more capacity & decided on the Instant Pot Pro 8L capacity. First thing I noticed that started to infuriate me is the Burn error. Nothing was burning, it was due to the source in what I was cooking being too thick, but I couldn't water it down as it would spoil the sauce. For weeks it was doing my head in to the point I was tempted to give it away & go back to my tried & trusted Drew & Cole. But then I noticed something I hadn't before, a Low & High setting. I assumed it was for heat, but it was in fact for the pressure. Low pressure takes longer, High pressure cooks faster. Since setting it to Low on foods that normally result in Burn error before it starts to cook, I've not had this problem. It takes a bit of getting used to, working out how sensitive it is for each type of foods I cook but once you crack it, it works amazingly well. I just wish they fix the Burn error because it's caused when the device gets too hot, usually indicating that something has started to burn, but it's an incorrect error I think they should fix with newer models because it's way too sensitive. What I cook in my Drew & Cole without issue, gives me Burn error with Instant Pot, and I can't help but wonder how many people have avoided this or returned it because of it. Fix this, it's an outstanding product.
Thank you, I've had my instant pot for a while now, but never really knew how to use it, too many buttons, now I know it's not so scary, thanks for putting it so simple to understand :)
AWESOME Tutorial. Wow so so happy to have found you. I bought an Instant Pot 3 years ago and used it once but I was so confused with the process but also so afraid. Thank you for all your analogies and visualizations (the Coke can image and the valve moving up) as I needed to understand the process. I was always afraid as the valve on my Instant pot was not functioning like the other instant pots or the manual. My valve has the tip colored in red and it when the pressure is high, the valve sticks up even more than the other models. When the pressure is gone, then the valve is just flushed with the lid whereas your valve sinks a bit more. So now I am confident with my machine as I understand what is happening. Thank you so much. I will check your next video (not to do) and check your recipes. Quelle belle découverte. Mille mercis.
I'm a truck driver and i bought the 6 quart, it was the smallest they had with the stainless steel bowl. Didn't really work for me, i mess up my 1500 watt inverter. I found the 3 quart and it is perfect for cooking on the road.
Seek Facts Not Fiction: Same here. An 8 qt. Xmas gift 2 years ago. Realized I was afraid to use it. Took it out of the box, looked at it, then put it back in the box to sit on a shelf (lol.)
Thank you, I'm using the instant pot for the first time today, I was following a video of a lady that was making pulled pork but, she didn't tell how to use the buttons so I was really lost using it! My son had ordered the pot and took everything out of the box, I don't think it even came with an instruction book?!! I'm so glad I ran across your video! You answered every question I had! ❤👍 We got the 6 quart, I think one button is different then yours but, you still covered that too! The top is also a bit different but, easy to figure out. 😊
I learned more in the first 10 minutes than the 3 other videos I already watched combined. You taught me about all the different functions and moved on without constantly over explaining yourself. AND, you made it all seem so simple, I'm excited to finally start using my Instant Pot. That is why I subscribed and you are now my first go to for recipe ideas or questions. No pressure though.
So I was leery of it when I first got it but now it is something I use multiple times a week. I’ve started eating a lot of cooked dried beans to lower my cholesterol, and the instant pot is amazing. You have control over the sodium content also when cooking from dried beans. You can have dried beans turned into something delicious in about an hour. It also does an amazing beef stew quickly, (which does not help your cholesterol:) I also make yogurt in mine, I make homemade hummus from chickpeas cooked in it. And it makes excellent chicken soup from a whole chicken, the flavors are much more intense I think because they never leave the machine. They’re always trapped in the pot with the food. And once you get comfortable with some of the more advance recipes of sautéing ingredients and then finishing them in the same pot. It’s really convenient and fast. And my last favorite feature, I can take one to three frozen chicken breast throw them in it and 25 minutes later they’re perfectly cooked, no thawing. This works for pork chops also. There have been many times I realized I had nothing to cook from the refrigerator and did not want to go to a store and just threw a frozen chicken breast and with seasoning on it. Dinner is served in 25 minutes.
Instead of storing with the lid off, I clean the sealing ring and leave it out for a week or so before reinstalling onto the lid. The sealing ring is what creates/holds odors. Enjoyed the vid!!
I’ve had my instant pot for 6 months it’s still in the box - truly want to use it for soups, broths and casseroles. This was such a valuable video to me - can you please explain how you resume cooking if you interrupt to add additional ingredients
I live by myself and have the 3qt instant pot. It’s the perfect size. I have your cookbook, “I Love my instant pot” cooking for one. I’ve made several recipes and they’ve been so good :)
Hi. I love your video. Just an opinion... it would be nice if you have this video in CC Spanish, so people who speak Spanish learn how to use the pressure cooker. I love mine but I have some friends that are afraid to use it because they don't understand all the buttons and tricks. Thank you
This is a genuine and expert review of the instant pot. After your thorough review it helped me not to buy this item because its so multifunctional and complicated that I won’t have ease of mind using it. An alternative rice cooker is best fit for me because I really only want a rice cooker and rice cooker are too simple to use compared to Insta Pot. Also if I bought this I won’t use it for many reasons that it is capable for.
Thank you Lisa for this awesome vid. 👏👏👏 I just got the duo 6 qt and your great vids help me a lot. Already tried it with pea and meat soup came out amazing. And just learned that the saute feature has several levels. Thanks again and keep on the good work.
The instant pot is a life changing appliance (for the better). I have realized, that food is one of the sacred joys in life, we only get to eat so many meals in life, and then that's it! So, meals are so important. The instant pot, however, does take education, and nuance to know how to use properly. So this information is vital! Thank you!
My mom got the instant pot cooker for me for my birthday ever since I started cooking for me or for my boyfriend. These videos have been very helpful with me understanding more on my instant pot. Thank you for making these videos!
I have had my duo for 4 years, in the box. By watching you do the water test, I have decided that I can do this. Your explanations, do and don'ts have really helped eliminate most of my anxiety. I have already watched about 6-7 other videos by you. Excellent!. I have the Duo Version 3. It's an older model. Thanks for showing and saying the "Pressure Cook" feather is the same as "Manual". I was totally stumped by that. I am a family of one. I saw on one of your video's you have a cookbook for one coming out? When? and How to get it? BTW,, My pot is out of the box now and sitting on the counter! Haven't used it yet. I feel i need to watch more of you video's first.
Kim, your comment made my entire MONTH! You're the reason I do what I do. Thank you soooo much for the time you took to watch my videos and leave such a generous comment!! My cookbook came out last July and is available in the description of this video :) I hope you keep feeling confident to keep cooking!!! THANK YOU! - Lisa
I have an 8 quart and a 3 quart Instant Pot and I use them both ALL of the time!! I had no interest in in an Instant Pot until I taught myself how to cook Indian food with UA-cam and many recipes used a pressure cooker! Now all I cook is Indian food because of all the flavorful spices and recipes! The 3 qt works better than any rice cooker I’ve ever used for cooking rice! I LOVE my InstantPots!!! 😍😍😍😍
Really great introduction. I just bought a Pressure cooker and was a little hesitant. You covered all the facets other people's videos glossed over. Thank you for being so detailed.
Thank you so much for taking time to explain how to use the instant pressure cooker for the beginner like myself. I'm so grateful. You are an amazing person.
THANK YOU-- this is GENIUS-- no one else has thought to even mention HOW to use this blooming thing!!! ha. I've never cooked and I have one of these and an air fryer and am learning things to cook that i NEED to be eating and are healthy-- and how to cook it QUICKLY and so it's GOOD-- My cooking before these tools was not good-- last time there were buzzards circling overhead!! ha.
Lisa, I love all of your videos!!! Thank you for giving me the inspiration to start using my Instant Pot!! I do have a question. Do you ever think about making another cookbook? One with the recipes you share that you make for your family? It is just my hubby and me at home now, but trying to make recipes for one isn't very effective for us. So just checking if you have another one that you may be working on for families? Happy Holidays!!
What a sweet sounding young lady! Thank you for such a thorough explanation. I have never used an instant pot or even a pressure cooker. I'm looking forward to this. Mine belonged to a friend of mine and she got a bigger one and gave me the one she had before. No directions included so I'm grateful for the tutorial.
I just got my instant for Christmas, thanks for all the info you've provided, I was so intimidating, your videos made it possible to use with confidence. Tomorrow's dinner will be made in my pot. Something simple at first and working my way up. Anyone have any helpful, need to know tips? Please and thank you all.
Thank you so much! Mine has been waiting for me to learn it for a couple of months, but I've been doing along with you. Shutting off the sound is sooooo wonderful! Black beans after water test right now!
I just received an Instapot for my Birthday. Your videos (this & others) are sooo informative and makes things easy. I still have a couple of questions. I was gifted a 3 qt. It’s just my husband and I and we are retired. You mentioned most recipes are based on the 6 quart. 1). Does that include your Cookbooks? And 2) Do you just take a 6 quart recipe and halve it? 3). Do you also need to adjust the cook times? 4). Is their a way to calculate it? Thank you for your response.
A Great Video! Thank you! I've done pressure cooking and pressure canning on the stovetop, but I'm new to the Instant Pot... I'm watching this After my wife bought one for herself, then didn't want to take it out of the box!
Recommended this site to someone who was selling a new pressure cooker. She said she is going to watch and try her in box new pressure cooker. Awesome video!
I love my instant pot and I'm here because I am a subscriber and you have helped me make everything I make..I enjoy watching your videos, even though I already knew the things in this video.
To start with my pressure cooker, I bought the McCormick Instant Pot seasoning packets. I am making as I write this their Fall Off The Bone ribs. So easy and so very good. The Instant Pot app is really good as well. This thing is amazing. After work so darn quick and simple and such a good meal. Love your videos, very helpful. Watched the video re accessories and really appreciated your tips. Thanks!
I have a Duo but I'm wondering why when my cooking time is all run down and then it turns off. Where I thought it was suppose to start counting up from the L, but mine just shuts off. I don't understand. OK thank you if I would have watched until the end I always turn off the keep warm button so that's why I don't get the L and it doesn't start counting up when the cooking is done!!! Thank you for answering also it's nice to know that I can turn off that sound and make it silent when putting on the cover.
Thank you so much! Bought my first instant pot and made my first meal because of your Videos and especially this! (I made sure I did the water this first before use😂) Loving my instant pot

Wow! Most men wouldn’t bother. Your wife is a lucky lady! 😊 👍
Never say old
@@mik20241 kind of an unnecessary comment but it is true i guess. Fellow man who cooks here
My goodness, Instant Pot should pay you for doing such a detailed tutorial.❤❤👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏

Rice cooks really nice in a instant pot
Awesome! Good for you.
As a visual learner, I’m so grateful for this video! I’m an experienced cook but have always been afraid of pressure cookers. But I’m facing my fears in order to make my own beans and save money/sodium.
The same here.....I got my visual learning style from my dad. Can't much follow written directions since they become a jumble in my mind.
me too

Oh my. This is a must watch video for all beginner. The Instant Pot is so scary until it isn't after watching this video.

This video was amazing! I feel so prepared now. Thank you!!!
Thank you, I've had my instant pot for a while now, but never really knew how to use it, too many buttons, now I know it's not so scary, thanks for putting it so simple to understand :)
I love your channel! Thank you for making it easy for me not to be intimidated by my Instant pot!💕
my first IP video and it is a great one. very well done, NO QUESTIONS! thank you!
Best 101 video I have watched. You explained so much! Thank you!
I'm a truck driver and i bought the 6 quart, it was the smallest they had with the stainless steel bowl. Didn't really work for me, i mess up my 1500 watt inverter. I found the 3 quart and it is perfect for cooking on the road.
OMGosh you did an awesome job with this. I really enjoyed it and all the information was easily absorbed in my mind. Thanks so much!
_This video was made for me! I bought the 8qtr and it has been sitting there for 2 yrs now! Still in its box lol_
We got the 6 quart, I think one button is different then yours but, you still covered that too! The top is also a bit different but, easy to figure out. 😊
Thank you so much. I have had my insta pot for five years and only used once. You explained yourself really well and I am not afraid to use it anymore
SO helpful. I'm enjoying your videos. Clear and informative.
Thank you so much! This Video was the best I found on orienting me to my new Instant Pot! Great job! This deserves more upvotes!
Wonderfully helpful and delightfully presented, as always. Thanks so much Lisa. 💖😉👍
Thank you for all the information, I’m still getting used to using mine so I appreciate all the tips and tricks♥️
I live by myself and have the 3qt instant pot. It’s the perfect size. I have your cookbook, “I Love my instant pot” cooking for one. I’ve made several recipes and they’ve been so good :)
I have a 3 quart as well it sure comes in handy 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I just got my instant pot, and will be cooking for one mostly.. I will have to check out her book.
You are so good at explaining how it works! Thank you so much!
Such a great video, her presentation is so thorough and understandable. She is a great presenter. Thanks for the video. Awesome.
Thank you Lisa for this awesome vid. 👏👏👏
I just got the duo 6 qt and your great vids help me a lot. Already tried it with pea and meat soup came out amazing. And just learned that the saute feature has several levels.
Thanks again and keep on the good work.
Literally the best video I’ve seen on this thank you so much🎉
The instant pot is a life changing appliance (for the better).
Thank you, I got my 3 qt yesterday and I've already cooked broccoli, red cabbage and brown basmati rice.
THANK YOU! - Lisa
@@Lisa.Childs hi! Can you please tell me the exact name of the instant pot, the one in the middle please ? Thank you for your great video. 😊
Thank you! Finally a helpful explanation while being shown. It was hard to figure out on my own so truly appreciate it.
Excellent video. Now I can use my Instant Pot after being stored in the cabinet for 2 months ❤
Thank you
Thank you so much for taking time to explain how to use the instant pressure cooker for the beginner like myself.
I'm so grateful.
You are an amazing person.
This is the best, informative, descriptive video I've ever watched. Thank you so much. I'm bling and this gal helps me in my life!!
THANK YOU-- this is GENIUS-- no one else has thought to even mention HOW to use this blooming thing!!! ha. I've never cooked and I have one of these and an air fryer and am learning things to cook that i NEED to be eating and are healthy-- and how to cook it QUICKLY and so it's GOOD-- My cooking before these tools was not good-- last time there were buzzards circling overhead!! ha.
Can it be used without Alid especially when making porridge ?
What an informational, easy to understand, and mind-easing video for an IP first timer. Thank you!
SUPERB presentation. Thank you... you have relieved me of my new-kitchen-thingy anxiety! I'm looking forward to watching your other videos.
Great instructions. I’m learning so much. I didn’t know about Lid rest. Awesome. ❤❤❤
Thank you for being so thorough! Your videos are a pleasure to watch informative! I no longer hate dragging my instant pot out😁
I am a newbie! Enjoying your tutorials! So I can learn what the heck I am doing! Thank you
I just got my instant for Christmas, thanks for all the info you've provided, I was so intimidating, your videos made it possible to use with confidence.
I too am by myself (widow) have both 6 qt & 3 qt use the 3 qt the most. Love the liner of the 6 qt for my Instant Pot wand to SousVide.
Thank you so much, you made is so much easier to understand how to use this, I was feeling very overwhelmed and confused
This is the best instapot video i have ever watched, so informative and clear speaking thank you
A Great Video!
When you know so much, you make teaching so easy and lucid. Thanks a lot.
Omg thank you for this instruction video. I've had my IP for 6 months and been overwhelmed and scared to try it. You have elevated all my fears.❤
So very helpful! My first ever Instant Pot recipe is cooking now. Thank you!!
Great video! Thank you for the detailed instructions!
I just discovered your channel. Thank you for all the tips. I’m in love with my instantpot again!!!
Wow the best video I’ve ever seen with so detailed and clear explanation great for beginner.
Wow. Thanks for all your hard work. It is super helpful for beginner. You are amazing!
I love my instant pot and I'm here because I am a subscriber and you have helped me make everything I make..I enjoy watching your videos, even though I already knew the things in this video.
Thank you so much! I'm new and had so many questions that you answered. I will definitely watch more and follow you. You are fantastic
You’re a wonderful teacher. Thank you.
I just stumbled onto your channel been using my pots for years. You’re doing a Great Job !!!!!
Thanks!
I have a Duo but I'm wondering why when my cooking time is
all run down and then it turns off. Where I thought it was suppose
to start counting up from the L, but mine just shuts off. I don't understand.
OK thank you if I would have watched until the end I always turn off the
keep warm button so that's why I don't get the L and it doesn't start
counting up when the cooking is done!!! Thank you for answering also
it's nice to know that I can turn off that sound and make it silent when
putting on the cover.
Thank you so much! Bought my first instant pot and made my first meal because of your
Videos and especially this! (I made sure I did the water this first before use😂) Loving my instant pot
