I'm 90/10 Hwy miles. This thing may go 300k and be my sons first car on 8 years 😂. It's hard to get rid a perfect working vehicle when you knwk whatever you buy next isn't going to. 2010 to 2018 is prime mazda especially pre 2014 because the older transmission that's a shit 5 speed has a spill and fill filter and is serviceable and last forever, plus it's only a 125$ service. The newer unit is sealed and you have to pump in and out if you can even find someone that will do it.
I did this swap in a Mazda3 about 4 years ago. Super simple swap. I want to say that I had to swap the Mazda ignition coils over to the Fusion motor, amongst other things. The little car felt so snappy and was a little torque monster.
Daimond washers are used to alleviate potential of the timing sprockets getting OUT of sync by loosening on the shatf, MZR timign does not use keyed slots. This has one advantage you can REALLY cut the deck and the head to bump the compression ratio OR add a 2-ble layer gasket and loose compression ratio for turbo setup AND still be in perfect timing. I did overhaul one of this engine (in mazda MPV), the genious of this solution is you can set a dial gage on the block, set your 'perfect TDC' and then Lock timing system to that , Try the same thing with a keyed system after cutting down the deck or the head - it will never be perfect. Drawback is in track usage the stock shims can allow for slip in the timing, thus these washers.

This is a common swap for other Mazdas like the 3 going from 2.3 to 2.5 and just keeping the parts that fit for the 2.3. The Ford version has cheaper internals but, when you are taking $300 for a Ford engine vs 1500 for the Mazda version it's an easy choice.
It's a shame the Rocket Miata swap is so much more expensive and involved. Apparently the Miata with a Ford-derived NA V6 with DOHC and VVT really does make it come alive. Unfortunately, the conversion is a LOT more trouble compared to a direct drop-in replacement with higher displacement. So while the power gains aren't substantial, I'd imagine that the torque curve is far nicer to live with.

Plus new radiators and brakes. Weight distribution was horrible. Don’t know Why he didn’t just put the 2.0 eco boost or 2.3 in it….
I have seen a Jeep 4x4 drive train with a Ford Mustang Body dropped onto it. What could a Mazda body be dropped onto that would make it crazy amazing? A Dodge K car, with an Audi drive train & suspension? That could be cool...
Anyone checking in here with a 1st - 2nd gen Mazda3, Mazda5 or Mazda6 (that came with a 2.0, 2.3, 2.5, or DISI*), this swap works too. It works for early engine 2.0's without VVT as well (such as the case with my 2005 Mazda3). *With DISI swaps, you need to regap the rings and some other stuff but it's still an inexpensive option vs another used 2.3 DISI or a Mazdaspeed Motorsports longblock (like I did when I blew my Speed3 at 250k miles).
Fascinating, I love Miatas, had some grand times in them back in the mazdaspeed trackday events (early 2000's), but the power in the straights was always an issue, I love this idea, and the increased torque will be nice in the curves too. How can you fix the traction control problem?? I need that for it to be perfect.

Fusion engines can skyrocket now. Bought mine 3 years ago
I’ve always liked the Miata, but when I test drove one I found out my legs are too long. It made it uncomfortable to drive
"Yeah you just bolt it in" ...... "I paid a shop to do it" 🤣🤣🤣
Top quality content!
I thought it would be the ecoboost swap..
Lol i have a friend that tried putting the 2.7 eco boost in one of these not knowing it it was made from compacted graphite iron. I think the engine alone weighed 420 pounds. Plus new radiators and brakes. Weight distribution was horrible. Don’t know Why he didn’t just put the 2.0 eco boost or 2.3 in it….
probably good 2000-3500 rpm
cuz the Focus pulls 4 people
smart you put 2 n 2 together and sorted this out
makes me want to get a miata
Please tell me I’m not the only one that caught “the ford fusion is truly one of the cars of all time”
How about an eco boost?
Turn it off and let the LSD work its magic.
Throw in a set of headers and a cam on the 2.5…❤
Better late than never! Too bad we don't get to see you push the Duratec to the max though.
