Wow, so beautiful I just had to try these even though I'm new with the gelli plate. Took me a while to figure it out. The trick was to use a pretty opaque paint for that last layer, and of course make sure the colors were contrasting. After the first few kinda meh ones, the second batch was outstanding and I'm all ready to make more. Thanks!
Would love to try this beautiful technique. I think I'll try to find a petroleum jelly replacement though, because stray greasiness may spread to other projects and surfaces, even days later, no matter how much I clean. So frustrating when I find a greasy spot on otherwise perfect projects or cardstock. Extra steps have to be taken already to make sure that supplies like glass, acrylic and transparencies are free from oil and grease when starting a project. I can't imagine adding more grease to my studio work surface. Beeswax is very soft, so maybe that will work, in it's own way. Also, I could dedicate a space for this petroleum jelly technique, only use gloves and throw everything away immediately. Hope this helps someone who may have similar concerns. TFS! Your vid was well done and very easy to follow.
This is a great video! Love the different ways to get results. You were killing me by not showing "ghost prints" 3:) This is something I can give a go this weekend. Looking forward to it.
I love this technique and results, however I am very concerned about the petroleum eating away at my gelli plate and stamps. None of which are inexpensive.
It hasn't harmed my plate at all. And rubber stamps are NOT real rubber. It doesn't harm them either. Clean the stamps to remove paint and other things to keep them clear for stamping.
@@cindyhenry1410 you can wipe the Gelli plate down with a baby wipe, if it’s not too caked up you can just spray a little water on it and wipe with a soft cloth. I clean my brayer with Murphy’s Oil soap and water.
@@cindycreateforlife have you ever had success “reviving” an old red rubber stamp? (I got some in a destash that were very hard....possible dry rot too) any suggestions or ways you’ve had experience with? Ty....
@cindyhenry1410 inking up the stamp with versamark and leaving it overnight is one suggestion I've heard to help. But I think it depends on how far gone the stamps are. It's worth a try and certainly not going to cause damage.
Hello! Great results!! I'm just wondering...are you able to varnish them afterwards?? I'd like to use uv resin (or acrylic varnish and uv resin on top of that) but Vaseline is pretty anti...well, pretty much anything, isn't it!? Can you get it completely off (without ruining the piece)?? Thanks in advance. :) Greetings K
Birgit - what would you think of trying to come up with a 'medium' that transfers images from inkjet print outs onto a gelli plate? It would be excellent if you and or Lou Anne + Joan could come up with a product that would work in combination with a gelli plate????
oh my gosh! am so anxious to try this technique. do you need to apply a fixative to the final piece? how does the vaseline not smear after the paint is dry? thanks so much for sharing this!
I'm wondering.. does anyone know what would happen if you mixed some color into the Vaseline? Would it still resist paint applied over the Vaseline while leaving some of the mixed in color behind when you wipe the Vaseline behind? If so, would colored alcohol ink be best to mix in with the Vaseline? Certainly I will try it. Just wondering if anyone else has already, and what you found.
Thank you! Your tags are beautiful. Someone already asked this but I didn't see a reply. So the vaseline doesn't harm the gel plate and a baby wipe is all you need to take it off?
They vaseline does not harm the gel plate and should clean off easily. You can use baby wipes or water and dish detergent, such as Dawn, to clean the gel plate after printing with vaseline.
How LONG do you let the LAST paint layer DRY - (that covered the Vaseline with stenciling LAYER) before you should use a BABY WIPE on it? Thanks in advance to anyone who knows.
You can also emboss with clear embossing powder and then sandwich your tag or print between scrap paper and carefully iron off the embossing powder, leaving the design behind.
You didn't mention how to take the vaseline off the printing plate. Do baby wipes remove it sufficiently that the vaseline residue doesn't repel paint for further printing?
I can’t understand why I would faff around with Vaseline when I can easily get the same negative effect just using the Gelli plate? Just put the stencil onto the Gelli plate, place scrap paper to pull a print, then print the tag after removing the stencil.
I think Birgit is the queen of the Gelli plate. She always does different techniques and I always learn new things. 😀

I had considered using it but wondered if Vaseline would damage the plate. Thank you for the reassurance. Beautiful tags.

ArtsyCrafteryStudio I think you are a bit over done,
@@ziziscorsese9475 Maybe, lol. 😆😂😊
@@ArtsyLadyCrafter I share your perspective.
That's beautiful. I love the soft glow from the Vaseline. Like a polish.
Birgit, I love, love, loooooooooooove your ideas and videos! Thank you
They're pretty, but what are the tags used for? I see a lot of people printing on them, but why tags? Thanks.
Great just bought some new stencils am going to try this x

Wow... those are lovely! Thank you for the technique!
Thanks. I am always trying to figure out how to get a negative of my stencils and this looks like a great solution, Can't wait to try it.
Ooh! They're all so fabulous! It looks like the Vaseline leaves a nice sheen to it as well. Thank you for sharing another great technique!

Now THAT is a medium I WOULD try on my gelatin plates - this petroleum jelly technique is just too messy and high maintenance for my art studio...
I would also like to know about cleaning the Vaseline off the printing plate! How do you clean the plate properly?
You can use water and dish detergent, such as Dawn, to clean the gel plate after printing with vaseline.
Wat een leuke techniek

Debbie, I am wondering that too or if it is greasy and leaves grease marks.
Most of the Vaseline gets wiped off with the baby wipe. The little bit left, acts as a glaze over the whole piece, like the Tim Holtz Micro Glaze.

I like, please could you tell me where you find your texture foam ? Thanks
anne le gorju these Are texture plates by Carabelle. Check them out on Amazon.com
Thanks
Are they oily to the touch? Will the oil from the Vaseline transfer to other things?
Birgit cleans the tags by wiping it with a baby wipe to remove the vaseline from the tag.
What and where are those art printing plates from?
MUST HAVE!!!!
I'm guessing Carabelle Studios. They make a lot of those.
Is there a non-petroleum medium that can do the same thing?
You can also emboss with clear embossing powder and then sandwich your tag or print between scrap paper and carefully iron off the embossing powder, leaving the design behind.
Niiice, will try.
