that's definitely the best idea. Is to just play. Get a feel for the plate and the paints. What you like, what you don't. Then sometimes you do something unintentionally that you just love and it becomes a favorite technique. Just play, experiment and most important - HAVE FUN!
Thank you so much. I can't believe how sweet everybody is with their comments. And I never know what to say back. I can't put into words how awesome it is to read the sweet comments. All I know to say is Thank you. I am truly touched.
It’s great watching you experimenting, exploring and sharing as you discover what the results end up with. It feels like celebrating the true spirit of this type of printing and you got some amazing results plus I love the way you lay down colours. It’s great that you are willing to show when you don’t get what you expect or are disappointed as it shows a more realistic example of what it’s like as well as showing how you can get “happy accidents”
Thank you! That's exactly what I hope to put across. I want people to not be afraid to just play and see what happens. Too many people just put their best stuff forward. Thanks so much for this comment.
I love how you show us weather it works or not, that’s how we learn too. I’m still getting my head around the layering techniques , so I watch and work along with you. Keep making lovely gelli prints, cheers from Perth west Australia.
Thank you. I'm happy it helps. Gel printing is a lot of playing and learning what works and what doesn't. What you like and what you don't. Have fun experimenting.
I love finding Canadian artists (I recognized the GT bag). I found this video reassuring AND helpful, as I've experienced that seemingly endless quest to get the grunge off my plate, and yes, it does produce awesome prints, but man does it take patience and time to get there, and an awful lot of paint. I love the way gel plate printing forces the artist to embrace "imperfections" - imperfection isn't the right word, as they're gorgeously unique. I will be back.
Just came upon your video - loved it! Thanks for sharing your successes and, very importantly, the experiment that didn’t work - playing is so important, it’s how we learn and you make it not scary to try out new ideas… 🙏
She's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! So glad to see you working the plate again. I thought you had some amazing prints that would make glorious backgrounds or collage pieces!
Oh mylanta! I absolutely love it when you peel the paint off your brayer! I'm a nurse, so I'm a picker and it is just so satisfying to see that come off in 2 strips. Good job, lol. I also love watching you do layers like this. I think your favorite was mine too, but there were also several others that I really liked. One of the ones with the embossing powder and that round stencil, it was mostly blue I think. I really liked the way it looked. Thanks for sharing!!!
I've never been happy with the prints that I've pulled from my Gelli Plate. I've watched a lot of videos on the process, but your video is the first one to give me hope. Many of the prints you pulled were stunning and I truly enjoyed watching your video. I am now a subscriber to your channel. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so very much. So sweet. And so happy to have you subscribe to my channel. Thank you. Just keep playing with the gel plate! You'll get it. And remember not all pulls are going to be great. Just keep going!
You probably know by now but just in case you don’t, the way to pull a print well is to rub, press, or roller the paper onto the plate just as you did BUT walk away and let it dry12 hours or more. Then you will get a good print. Hope this helps 😊
Yes, I've been told this. Patience isn't my strong suit. lol I did it once though and it did work fabulously! But I've also done it without having to wait too! lol
This advice is valuable but only if you have multiple plates! If you really want a “play session” it’s torture to walk away for hours! I’m with Denise on the patience level!
I will add to this suggestion of waiting, I use books to add weight while the print dries overnight and it will usually pull all the layers up in the morning.
Denise, you are to hard on yourself. All those prints are really really stunning and gorgeous too. I really really would give my eyetooth if I could produce anything like these prints you’ve made. And the embossing powder didn’t work, you’ll try again another time I really really love 💕 watching you create these stunning and gorgeous prints. Your amazing absolutely amazing. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Thank you so much for these videos. I have struggled with how to develop my gelli printing abilities and ideas, and just watching your narrated process videos has helped me tremendously in freeing up my own creative process. I realized I was all hung up on “doing it right” and “making good art” (even though I know intellectually that allowing myself to just make BAD art is the way to relax and discover what I really want to do). Anyway... thank you. Also, in case no one has mentioned it yet, your voice is SO PERFECT for listening to while doing this. :-)
Well that's a whole lot of wonderful words you said. Thank you so very much. So kind of you to say! It is hard to allow yourself to make bad art. There are days I play with the gel plate and feel so discouraged like I can't possibly make anything nice. Sometimes those are days that maybe I should be something different. lol Allow yourself to have fun and make a mess. And be okay with making some ugly prints. We all have them!
Denise .... I did some gelli printing tonight on dry leftover acrylic images on my gelli plate and I realized the one thing I didn’t say on my earlier notes is ... when you lay a last coat of color on dry acrylic paint (in order to pull the whole image), wait until the print hardens before you pull it. ellen!
Denise I really love 💕 watching you. And I really didn’t know you could peel off a layer of colour from a brayer either. I really love 💕 those gorgeous prints you made awesome. Thank you so much xxx Mags
Thank you so much Mags. Yes, I've seen videos where people have to soak theirs in some sort of floor cleaner I believe it is. Can't recall right now. But I just wait for mine to get thick enough to be able to just peel it right off.
@@DeniseLush Denise, I love your Prints, very artistic. O have a question for you, I went to the page that you have listed for the stencils from Rebecca, I guess this page is only for retail, where can I buy this? Do you have the Company“s Name I can buy it?

I totally get what you were thinking king with the embossing powder, and I love the idea. You can get the look you were going for, I think, just by stenciling the embossing powder on to the print and them embossing it. You can then layer over parts of that with more paint or ink if you want to.
This was fun! One thing about the gelli plate, even things that don't work look very interesting! Have you tried using the embossing powder and heating it before picking up a print, and then reheating it, remelting the powder and adding more powder, melting it again? I have done the remelting a lot a while back and, without the acrylic, it works beautifully. With the acrylic layer, maybe not. I love experimenting!
On paper, yes I have done that with the embossing powder. But I wouldn't want to do that on the gelli plate, think it may wreck it. I was told not to use a heat gun on the gelli plate and I'm trying to listen. lol Thanks!!!
I LOVE the first one! Would you suggest that the first impressions should be on this darker side? And the second pull is really organic! Love love love it
Was worth watching. Some of those prints are luscious to the eyes. A good reminder that art comes from play as well as plans. You might try stamping on the gel plate first, then embossing powder then paint layers.
Those prints may have not been "what's in your head"... but they were absolutely GORGEOUS! I truly LOVE your style of applying your paints and stencils. (:
@@DeniseLush please don't shorten them! I LOVE gel printing, and I got ideas from you. The texture from the embossing powder reminds me of the texture Shell C gets from baby powder
I think the embossing powder works best direct to paper. You could sprinkle it onto wet paint through the stencil. To transfer it with the plate try applying it through the stencil with a soft brush so all the grains are sticking to the plate. Loose grains will act as a resist! Pick up the stencil and brayer on your pick-up layer of paint, then pull the print. Use thick enough paint to adhere those granules to the paper! Done this way you probably will achieve only a slight texture but it could be interesting. I think we'd all like to see further experiments. Go for it!
