Note that Zack and Cloud were imprisoned for 4 fucking years. Zack at that moment thought about to finally see Aerith again and had hopes that she waited for him even after he read the last letter of her.

It's just not a voice that I can associate to Zack, especially worth how well his original VA seemed to suit his character and personality - and he didn't sound nearly as goofy delivering sad or dark lines
Honestly just sounded like the new VA was trying to make him sound way too cocky for where Zack ended up in Crisis Core and that really bothers me - Zack grew up a lot during his game. Or sounded like he was going for another knock off version of Reno

Imo, keeping Zach alive was Square putting their cards on the table about the dead staying dead while also adding some mystery back into Cloud's past. Prior to this, Cloud's amnesia was meaningless, we already knew everything. Now we don't for sure.
Thomas Henry yeah but cloud is not represent 100% because of the amnesia, they can expand the character much more we need to wait and see I want a reunion, and I want to see sephiroth meeting his real mother, I think this sephiroth is actually good, he knows that the planet and humanity can’t coexist maybe he is looking for a way of making the human more like the cetra, there are endless possibilities.

The steel sky... for those don't remember what Aerith said: "People hate the steel sky, the slums…but I don’t, how could I? All that passion, all those dreams… Flowing and blending together into something greater."
As fucked up as the place is that's a really good point she made.
I liked how the people was still able to turn the desolate slums into a somewhat thriving community. Despite Shinra pretty much not giving a single shit for the slums and using it as a way to oppress the lower class. The lower class seem to have been able to make the slums functional.

I don't know too much about Final Fantasy and Aerith and whatnot, but to me the "I miss it. The steel sky" sort of felt more metaphorical than her exactly meaning the upper plains of Midgar above them.
Steel sky very much so feels like something that you are shut within. Locked behind and whatnot. Yet that steel sky now being broken means something like endless possibilities lying ahead. As caused by the slaying of those spirits of fate/plotghosts.
As if Aerith was simply scared now of the possibility that things could go wrong and they fail on their endeavours.
Though I guess that makes no sense since she was the one who wanted to change fate in the first place.....

@@formanga8871 It's only my opinion for now, we have to wait the final part but, I don't think that there are two timelines, Aerith died but Cloud doesn't accept it(his speech and the lake scene are offscreen), he's lying to himself by thinking Aerith survived
His mind splitted, in one way he's feeling like the original game and on the other one, he tries to think he saved her
Cloud's mind is destroyed, refusing Aerith's death, confused by his travel accross universes (seeing the hollow sky that is not real) and controled by Sephiroth
It's only supposition but I'm pretty sure about it

I love how they paid homage and brought Crisis Core into the remake. Zack was a great character and played a pivotal role in Cloud's life. That's how he got his Buster sword.

To be fair, that scene was in the original FF7 not just crisis core. If you went back to the basement of the Nibelheim mansion you could see the flashback and showed how Cloud and Zack escaped, got to Midgar, and how Cloud got the sword

Finally beat the game. Never played the original nor any other final fantasy game before, I have no idea what I just played but it was visually stunning.
Bro me too 😭😭 I kinda wish the story was faithful for a remake but at the same time I like the idea there going with. I could play the original but to be real I cant tolerate the aged graphics. And I'm not a fan of the turn based rpg.
Crisis Core is a good prequel to this. You should try to watch the cutscenes for it on UA-cam since the game is only available on Psp unless you have one.

Nothing else in this game got me really emotional, but the raw emotion in this song is heart breaking. Cloud wanting to see Aerith more than anything, and then facing the fact that no matter how hard he tries, she really is gone forever. That's what made me cry.
What's even more sad is that there are many people in this world that relate to the lyrics and to Cloud's emotions.
It is not necessarily about Aerith, but could be about any(and all) of the people who have supported him, but he felt he had let down in some way. This could include his mom, Tifa, Jessie and probably others. And how he will try to do it better "this time".

FF7 hat mein spirituelles Weltbild mit geprägt, das ging nicht nur mir so, so lange hab ich davon geträumt es wieder zu spielen, dann kam Rebirth. So hab ich auch von Remake gehört und es auch gekauft, bin echt frustriert dass es schon durch ist und ich nach Intermission wieder Rebirth spielen muss, ehrlich gesagt langweilen mich die ewig gleichen Quests und die zähe Story!

I've never been a ff fan. This is the first ff game I completed. Got the Platinum trophy. This ending and song kicking in gave me the shivers and made me tear up. I dug deep into the lore of the ff7 lore. To anyone upset about the ending, you're gate keeping. This game made me interested in final fantasy in a way no other game could. Let's all enjoy the journey.

I played the og FF7 like 6 months ago wasnt expecting to fall in love with that universe as much as i did to the point of playing Crisis core and dirge of cerberus along with buying a copy of FF7 Advent Children. I finally gotten my copy of FF7 remake the day before new years and boy oh boy i played nonstop it was a ride

Same here, my only other experience was Dissidia and generally the soundtracks of the game, I tried FF15 but couldn't finish it. I finished FF7re in a few days and want more.

Yeah that was insane. They had an intermission, then every song after that was a build up to Hollow and it was just and explosion of eurphoria.

It reminds me just how much I miss Crisis Core & everyone leading up to the events where VII's original game's storyline starts with Cloud piggybacking the train into Midgar.
I thought it was a reference to the point and click game "Beneath a steel sky" which is freeware!

I think it’s interesting how they made Aerith’s final line as the way it is. In the Japanese version she says “I hate this sky.” Totally different connotations to this scene.
Not only there, but in looking there's quite a number of notable diversions between them for the entire party. In my mind I almost consider the Japanese Aerith a different character entirely, as well as the Japanese Cloud etc. That makes sense given the radically different character of the Japanese versus English speaking audiences.
It's also a reference to CC where she mentioned to Zack that she's scared of the sky, feeling like she's being sucked into it

@@Reagbotics If you've got the language chops for it, a very very worthwhile exercise. Some say VG/Anime Japanese isn't fully representative, and to a certain degree they are right, you aren't going to be saying 沈め！in most cases, but this game showcases the full range of Japanese speech and writing. I bought the Japanese version, and have been definitely stretched in some cases. Worth it.

That last line by Aerith, "I miss it. The steel sky.", is my favorite line from the whole fame. So many layers of meaning wrap into one simple sentence.
You have the literal meaning that Aerith misses the place and people where she had grown up. Then you have the meaning of she is going out of her comfort zone. A layer deeper you have the allegory of the steel sky being fate and how she misses the future she knowns and is wary of what might happen now they are unbounded from fate. Finally you have the meaning where the line breaks the fourth wall and actually represent the feeling of the player where the steel sky represents the original storyline and how players is going to miss the exact retelling of the original story.
My favorite is “Yeah, so what? Screw him” XD

I just finished Rebirth. Gonna plat that game but now this song and Promises to keep mean even more to me now. I'm a fan of Tifa, but I'm not gonna deny the fact that Cloud and Aerith deserve to be together. @ghostly_number or they have known each other since OG ff7. We know that the OG timeline has happened too, which has been almost 30 years ago. However, even if that is not the case, it means even much more seeing how connected they got after "only" a couple of weeks.

Also what connection? Most of the interactions are aerith forcing herself into the situation. And cloud just going with the flow cause he's mentally a 16 year old and loves the attention of an attractive woman. It's that simple men

Kid me never ended FFVII, teen me never ended FFVII
I just ended the Remake at 24 years old and it touched my heart (never left Midgar in my two runs)
Now I just I took my PSP from its shelf after stopping using it for years.

Finished original ff7 in january and id strongly advise you the swicth/xbox version, there are some really neat features like turning off random battles whenever you want or making the game rune in 3x speed wich is extremelly usefull for long boss battles 😊

So this scene where Zack is carrying Cloud "Almost there, Cloud.." can be seen in OG FF7 during the flashback. Before we get to this particular scene, they expand on what happens leading upto it in Crisis Core; Zack was fighting ShinRa soldiers on the way to the cliff overlooking Midgar. Zack returns to carry Cloud further but they get ambushed by more reinforcements. This was the fatal blow to Zack and the soldiers shoot him repeatedly into the ground afterwards-- Cloud regains just enough sense to crawl upto Zack bleeding out heavily and we get the "you're my living legacy" line which Cloud basically becomes.. in FF7.
While I also wanted that Zack and Aerith get just a little more time to spend in life together, their tale is closer to two star crossed lovers. It is beautiful yet heartbreaking at the same time, though it is implied in Advent Children, that both Zack and Aerith are finally together in the lifestream.

Thing is, Zack never told Cloud that they were “almost there” in the original nor in Crisis Core, nor was he beaten up. The idea is that this Zack survived his ordeal against the ShinRa troops and continued dragging Cloud with him to Midgar. This is indicated by the fact that Zack was carrying Cloud through the rain which, by this point, marked the time in which Zack died in the original and Crisis Core.

I’m with you. This game was amazing & I can’t wait for more. So many fan theories that are fun to think about. But I think it’s brilliant that SE was able to give fans of the original game a new experience.
I agree mainly because I love the idea of Zach being alive and taking a bigger role in the story. He's honestly the most important piece to Cloud's character even above Aerith and him just being there throws everything in a crazy new dynamic. Plus if the series ends with Aerith and Zack together and Cloud and Barret.. maybe tifa together if Barret isn't into it.. it would finally the close the decades old shipping debate.

Yeah IKR! I do love Aerith so much as well that I can't afford to play the original again after being stuck with it for more than 20 years. Crisis core just makes everything worst but is a really good game to try if you haven't already. I love this ending, Zack doesn't die Barrets Avalenche team doesn't die, Aerith doesn't die because she's a world jumper same as Sephiroth. It means the part 2 , 3 and 4 and any sequels can finally be remade into something new, with new story and new characters even if they wanted to the direction is limitless, Sephiroth can even join your party to fight against the more powerful entity the universe and destiny which creates and destroys all life. Think about it why does he keep Cloud and his friends alive when he could so easily crush them all, he even stabbed barret knowing he would survive because of destiny. mind blowing story that's for sure

Zack likely took Cloud's role in avalanche. But maybe he just wanted to hid out with Aerith somewhere and settle down. BUT if Zach's death was the final piece that broke Cloud's mind and gave him the persona he followed in the OG.. now this one wouldn't suffer that.. he would still be the Cloud from CC.. how would he fair meeting Tifa and being upfront about how he failed.

The lyrics speak to me on a personal level. Because the one that would help me through my everything, and I would always look up to...she died late last year. I finally had the privilege to play through this amazing game, and after 40 action packed hours, this song hit me like a sack of bricks and I cried because it spoke to me so deeply. I often wonder what things would be like if she were still here: would she still be here if I had done more? Or had I done things differently?

I finished the game yesterday and I just HAD to come back to rewatch this scene. The moment Aerith and Zack felt each other's presence (at least that's what I felt when watching this scene) really hit me hard! Zack is my favorite FF character and his death was a huge misfortune. The moment I saw his flashbacks in this game, I thought they were going to torture us again with his death. (I was already having some PTSD). But the moment he said "Wait... is that all?" I couldn't help but jump and scream. I'm ready for this journey, even more now that Zack will be a part of it. I really really hope that we get to see Aerith and Zack reuniting! He deserves to see her after fighting his way to get to her.

My heart will die if I get to play as Zack on his timeline and Cloud on the other for the next parts of this remake. @@OSTVerse Yes!!! Their built-up romance was great! Those times they spent together: her hugging him when he was mourning for Angeal, the tiny wishes and all the letters she wrote him! The story of Zack was well written because you get to see him grow throughout the game. We see him go from "Zack the Puppy" to "Zack the Hero".
It would be awesome if we do get to play as him!!!! I don't think I'd be able to contain the excitement! Now that he's around, I'm already imagining how his presence can change some events in the game. At the same time I'm scared, because the creators said that the key elements will remain unchanged, so I'm worried that they're just giving us false hope and both he and Aerith will end up dying anyways. Whatever happens, as long as I get to see them reunite again I'll be happy. That's all I'm asking for. TwT Good to know you loved the remake! I know that there are people out there that disliked it a lot... to each their own I guess. And this video is just perfect! Listening to it with your eyes closed really takes you to a whole different place. I have it on repeat.

You didn't recognise the ground's edge as the one from the scene in the original FFVII flashback? With three soldier catching up to Zack and Cloud, gunning Zack down and leaving Cloud to die?
This was always an inconsistency with Crisis Core and the original FFVII. FFVII it was just three soldiers, and no sign of any army anywhere around. Crisis Core made it seem like it was the last three soldiers of an entire army; But never displayed the part of the scene where they also find Cloud but tell each other to just leave Cloud, because he's as good as dead anyway.
Honestly, this is just their way of them reconciling that slightly different ending to Zack from Crisis Core to the one in the original FFVII. Instead, this time Zack beats the army he faced at the end of Crisis Core, and walks with Cloud to the ground edge you see here (the one from the original FFVII flashback), then three soldiers out on patrol will catch them by surprise and will gun Zack down, decide Cloud isn't worth it, then walk off. As what happened in the original FFVII flashback.
Zack's my fave character from Final Fantasy too, but I hate to break it you, that is probably what's going to happen. They just didn't show that yet as they want part one of the remake to end on a high, not a downer, and keep us hoping. Zack has to die. Truth is, Cloud as a character does not work if Zack does not die, so they will not be changing that.

I think the theme is saying Aerith's already dead. The theme is Cloud's thoughts on Aerith and there's some omniscience in it, partially because Cloud now has some knowledge of the future. This theme sounds like a mourning song, like someone beloved is dead. I think one reason the theme is titled Hollow is that the party's victory will be hollow because there's some things they can't change. And that's exemplified in the last shot. Zack is alive, yet the party doesn't see him and nothing has changed for the party.
She is dead in remake, so her death will be pointless.
@@KJames2345 not really. Her death was because she obtained “holy”, and will still very likely be a possible outcome. I imagine if she doesn’t die, it’ll be at just a large a cost. The last conversation between Sephiroth and cloud is also interesting, because he states “7 seconds until the end...”
What’s interesting is that the cutscene where sephiroth kills aerith takes exactly 7 seconds from the start of his fall to the point where his sword plummets into her body and she collapses.
Now because of the theme of “changing the constraints of faith” we can certainly anticipate that things won’t play out precisely how we’ve all come to expect, but if Aerith dies, then it’ll likely be at the cost of Cloud or someone else’s life in that moment.
Either way, it’ll be sad.

Aerith is recreating the event from lifestream white from On a way to a Smile in remake part 1.
Aerith throughout part 1 was a vision of herself as she has that ability as a Cetra, Aerith at the end of og ffvii was the same cutscene at the beginning of remake. Aerith in Clouds resolve was Aerith from og ffvii. She is already apart of lifestream.
I can see SE allowing the players to save Aerith when the time arrives only for her to return to the lifestream at the end of remake becoming one with the planet. Sacrificing herself, becoming planets protector/guardian.
That would hit players harder than watching Jenova stab her.
