This battle between MISA and Kanami is legendary and needs to be seen by all Band-Maid fans. I would buy a copy of the concert DVD in a heartbeat if they still sold it.

Solos are not really meant to be about its own melody or flash (notes per second). It's all about taking the listener on a journey of feelings that connect them with the music at a visceral level, and then launching the next passage with a newfound sentiment and understanding of the story. Kanami, MISA and Akane know this... and all three play it so well in this live version of Don't You Tell Me.

Kanami giving us some tasty sustain is a nice change up from shredding. The battle is more of an exchange, even if you find another band doing this it wouldn't be the same. The Maids own this genre now :)
I think many lesser bands use backing tracks because they can't really play. Band-Maid uses them, sparingly, tastefully, just to add even more goodness on top of the greatness that they already give in their music. In their latest online concert, the backing track failed at the start of "Choose Me", so they stopped to get it fixed. In the end it was still not working right, so they turned it off. But they didn't really need it anyway - I think it was just intended to be whipped cream on top of the sundae.
Two things: 1) I would say that when doing really epic, lush stuff, Band-Maid goes full-on with the backing tracks because really the only other option is to go totally solo-vocal + acoustic guitar to get the same intensity as they did on the studio version. But as usual, they add MORE live. For an example, track down the Zepp live version of "Daydreaming"; how could you top the MV version doing it live? and yet they did it, with the backing tracks. They're a _rock_ band, which has as much to do with the listener/concertgoer experience as it does with the technical musicianship and the ideas expressed in the lyrics. I loved "Daydreaming" from the MV, but it became my favorite song when I saw the Zepp video....until I kept watching the next song and then gradually "Only One" became my new favorite. 2) a) I think 99% of us loved watching them just goof around for 15 minutes with each other. I read a comment recently from someone saying that they liked not knowing anything about their rock gods/goddesses, and I get that, but I think there's a huge appeal with Band-Maid in that they could be your neighbors who you really like because they're fun and smart and goofy and By The Way They're The Best Live Rock Band On The Planet. 2) b) Reportedly, their backing tracks went completely kaflooey and were not used for one entire show (Helsinki?) on the 2019 European tour and they still rocked the house. Like you said, it's just icing on the cake, like the costumes. But it is some pretty terrific icing.
There is no other band that is doing this kind of stuff anymore, they just wanna sound like in the studio version without any extras and the ppl are happy about it... It´s a SHAME! That´s the reason Band Maid is above them all, they create something special on stage "every freaking time", there is so much effort behind it, all other bands are just lazy IMO! Same with instrumentals... There are just a few bands doing this kinda stuff today and i LOVE instrumentals! P.S.: The deep voice could be MIKU, i am not 100% sure, but she can manage a very deep voice!
Love this version of the song! Misa vs Kanami in a friendly battle, love it, Po! Band Maid is so great live! The world needs live music again, and Band Maid Live, Po!
If you can get their video of "Take Me Higher" from their Zepp show it also has a back and forth between Kanami and MISA in it. That was the song that got me hooked on Band Maid. By far my favorite group.
This 2018 concert at Zepp Tokyo has the best audio mix. The sound quality is really great. Of course, there are many things to see on the screen. This DVD is now unobtainable and very rare, so Maidiac that owns it will be seen with envy.
Agreed, I think there's a consensus that there's a triggered sample or effect that produces that explosiveness. And IMO it's pretty subtle; I initially assumed she just hit her china crash really hard (I mean she's probably doing that too).
Great reaction, mate! The lead song off the criminally underrated Just Bring It album. They are the best hard rock band on the planet. Peace out, and may Band-Maid keep on rocking!! 🤘🤘
if you see the song where Saiki has to leave the stage and Miku sings her harmony part, its everywhere , up down , sideways, and perfect , even on her own . made me realise how versatile and accurate she is behind Saiki's vocals. little unsung genius she is.
@@paulread5218 Saiki gets pulled offstage during Freedom, I think. The live version of "Real Existence" is the very next song, and you can see she lost her shoes in the crowd and doesn't get them back until partway through the song.
Love watching your reactions dude! But just wanted to let you know that I have to raise the volume about 20% more than normal youtube videos. This song is sick:)
Saw a documentary on Cream recently - a band I much admired in my youth. Clapton, Bruce and Baker heralded as top of the bunch by all and undoubted great musicians. However on reflection I think Misa has nothing to fear from the late Jack Bruce; Akane would have the measure of Ginger Baker and possibly more and the beloved Kanami can equal Eric Clapton on guitar and has the measure of Cream in composing and arranging. Film of Cream in performance shows they were streets away from Band -Maid on stage. These young women are the real 'cream'.
I was a fan of Cream and had their albums. They were one of the most exciting acts of a very interesting time. And you're right. Band-Maid is on another level. And nicer human beings as well, IMHO.
This "battle" is awesome, but personally I think the one in "Take me Higher" is better. Don't know if it is possible to find that old video, but their performance of that song is one of their single best performances (IMO) There is also a great tapping battle between Kanami & MISA in a fan made video of Clang! Great stuff from the Queens of rock!! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
IMHO there are multiple low vocals at the the point you mentioned because it is an audience sing-along point and they are not far away. Yes it could be Miku, yes she is versatile. Just my opinion. And when Misa was doing the "battle" with Kanami, I swear she was channeling Chris Squire of the original Yes. Not copying. Just sounds like something he might do. Loved it.
Whyyyyyy have I never seen this before?!?! Oh it's because it's from a month after I discovered Band-Maid and I was still mired in re-watching all the more obviously-accessible stuff 42,000,000 times. Anyway, thanks for the link!
Yes, they play with a backing track providing special effects that are impossible to do themselves with the instruments. They need to be very precise with their timing, and they can't stop in the middle of the song. They'll still sound good without the backing track, but it's better for the listener to have them.
I always get chills and goose bumps when these girls do there thing. The band use a backing sometimes when live. Phenomenally talented quintet hard rock band.
I think it's the most vocally demanding song out of all the band-maid song to be honest. She always seems to go breathless when she performs this, even at the recent online okyuji the same happened. I don't blame her, anyone would struggle to sing this song, there's hardly anywhere to breathe. Must be a nightmare song for her.
This "Don't you tell me" is included in the 2018 live version (Full 2h). In addition, "Take me higher", where you can enjoy a battle between guitar and bass, is included in the 2017 live version (Edited 1h). The official uploads from these two live editions are only 3 songs "ONSET", "Real Existance" and "Cross" from the 2018 edition, and none from the 2017 edition. Looking at the MV caption officially uploaded to UA-cam, Until "The Dragon Cries" released in February 2020, the copyright of the MV is owned by the company (Nippon Crown) to which BAND-MAID belonged before the transfer. So, I think there is almost no possibility that the same video work, the 2017/2018 live BLU-RAY (DVD), will be resold by Nippon Crown. And Currently, these two live albums are no longer available for sale, so we can't buy them at the right price. So, watching this upload is a copyright violation, but not a lost profit for the company. @@mechghost5742 I don't think so. Their shows are pretty scripted considering how much supporting backing tracks they use. They're not a jazz ensemble that noodles.
Some Japanese bands. Take your pick: BAND-MAID [All their songs... really!], LOVEBITES [Raise some Hell, and all the other songs], MAXIMUM THE HORMONE [Yoshu Fukushu], CROSSFAITH [Catastrophe], SiM [Killing Me], NINGEN ISU [Heartless Scat], UNLUCKY MORPHEUS [Black Pentagram], YOUSEI TEIKOKU [Astral Dogma], COLDRAIN [Die Tomorrow], CRYSTAL LAKE [The Circle], GIVEN BY THE FLAMES [Ronove], ANGRY FROG REBIRTH [2Step Syndrome], SILENTLY SHOOTING TRAITORS [Manipulate], ALDIOUS [Dominator], BRIDEAR [Light in the Dark], CINQ ELEMENT [Destiny], MARY'S BLOOD [Marionette], GRAUPEL [Bereavement], DOLL$BOXX [Take my Chance] , SOKONINAR [Tenohira De Odoru], HELLO SLEEPWALKERS [Flying Saucer], TELECiDE [Tied up Memories], SPIRITBOX [Belcarra], NEKO [Ghost on a Record], ROTTENGRAFFTY [Hallelujah], DIR EN GREY [Ningen wo Kaburu], X JAPAN [Kurenai], DAZZLE VISION [Second], JUPITER [My Enemy], GALNERYUS [Angel of Salvation], BLOOD STAIN CHILD [Del-Sol], and many more...
I think this was recorded before Saiki's vocal surgery. Miku does a "man voice", probably electronically lowered, in real time, though. That marvelous "crash" owes much of its impact to a backing track...nothing wrong with that...well designed...
Yeah, others have covered the fact that Miku can sing low (and I believe she sometimes doubles her voice). She has a very wide range, just not the power that Saiki has. The closest I've come to hearing a band sound like Band-Maid is Scandal's AMDKJ. For that I mean song structure with verse 2 change-ups and other surprises. But they don't don't go as hard as Band-Maid does. Worth a listen. They're celebrating 15 years. And if you have't checked out Maximum the Hormone, you should. They're an influence on Band-Maid. Not sure what song to recommend, but I guess go with "Alien". One last thing: keep an eye out for Accent. They're a trio of 13-year-old girls that have been playing a few years now. Check out the cover they did of Band-Maid's "Don't You Tell Me" when they were 11. The drummer just did a cover of "Different" so yeah. The future is looking good.
@paco acosta Awesome of you for doing that friend!👍 You should send him Time too, preferably from the Line cube shibuya performance if ya have it. It's my favorite Miku song and there are hardly any reactions out there to it.

yeah.I'm waiting this moment
Unfortunately, they haven't repeated the solo battle in more current live performances of this song.
It’s probably a spur of the moment thing
@@mechghost5742 I don't think so. Their shows are pretty scripted considering how much supporting backing tracks they use. They're not a jazz ensemble that noodles.
Akane has trgger pads she uses occasionally for electrunic drum sounds. eg that crash sound.
also , Akane's drumming during Misa and kanami battle is awesome
bruh, im with you…I wanna hear that again⚡️🤘🏽
The lowest voice in the chorus is Miku's backing track. She can sing up and down octaves of Saiki.
2:19 - Give me, give me, give me... Ketchup !!
if you react to the offical version there is some insight in how they act to each other thats great to watch.
Unsung hero during that battle is Akane.
I think it was all 3 guitars in that crash.
Some Japanese bands. Take your pick: BAND-MAID [All their songs... really!], LOVEBITES [Raise some Hell, and all the other songs], MAXIMUM THE HORMONE [Yoshu Fukushu], CROSSFAITH [Catastrophe], SiM [Killing Me], NINGEN ISU [Heartless Scat], UNLUCKY MORPHEUS [Black Pentagram], YOUSEI TEIKOKU [Astral Dogma], COLDRAIN [Die Tomorrow], CRYSTAL LAKE [The Circle], GIVEN BY THE FLAMES [Ronove], ANGRY FROG REBIRTH [2Step Syndrome], SILENTLY SHOOTING TRAITORS [Manipulate], ALDIOUS [Dominator], BRIDEAR [Light in the Dark], CINQ ELEMENT [Destiny], MARY'S BLOOD [Marionette], GRAUPEL [Bereavement], DOLL$BOXX [Take my Chance] , SOKONINAR [Tenohira De Odoru], HELLO SLEEPWALKERS [Flying Saucer], TELECiDE [Tied up Memories], SPIRITBOX [Belcarra], NEKO [Ghost on a Record], ROTTENGRAFFTY [Hallelujah], DIR EN GREY [Ningen wo Kaburu], X JAPAN [Kurenai], DAZZLE VISION [Second], JUPITER [My Enemy], GALNERYUS [Angel of Salvation], BLOOD STAIN CHILD [Del-Sol], and many more...
Wooooo!!
I think this was recorded before Saiki's vocal surgery. Miku does a "man voice", probably electronically lowered, in real time, though. That marvelous "crash" owes much of its impact to a backing track...nothing wrong with that...well designed...
The layering in an affect on Miku's microphone
I think its more of a guitar and bass love scene
🤘🤩🤘
Akane the cymbal ninja!!!!
Saiki did a incredible singing here
❤️
I hope you are having a good day!!!
The future is looking good.
where can I find this video?? its not on the band maid channel anymore, I've been looking for the Don't you tell me live video EVERYWHERE 😭
Little? Well, Miku is 5' and Kanami is 5'1", but MISA is 5'7"+, Akane is 5'6", and Saiki is 5''4". LOL
Where did you get this video to react to?
Its in the discussions part of my channel
@paco acosta Awesome of you for doing that friend!👍 You should send him Time too, preferably from the Line cube shibuya performance if ya have it. It's my favorite Miku song and there are hardly any reactions out there to it.
Miku singing at the absolute bottom of her vocal range.
