Oh my goodness… three different knitting for beginners videos before THIS video and I could not GET it! I’m so glad I landed on yours… I was about to give up. I specifically wanted to make a dishcloth like this and it’s how I found you. YOU taught me how to do it! A million times, thank you!!
Thank you so much for this video. My very first attempt to knit something Your instructions are very clear, and I appreciate that you take the time to go slow, and repeat the steps. You make it very clear as to what the steps are. I am a senior citizen and just learning. Thank you again. Bless you.
Just wanted to let you know that I have completed 3 of these little dish rags. It definitely got easier with the second and 3rd one. My first one was laughable. Now I’m going to try making a larger one. First time knitting and your video was so helpful, thank you!
absolutely perfect video! great verbal presentation: good grammar and diction and speed. good organization. better than the best filming. i especially appreciate the blackened background. i think this is called GARTER STITCH, not stockinette. stockinette stitch is when you knit one row and purl the following row. thank you for encouraging new knitters. knitting is becoming a lost art and your video helps preserve it.
As a BRAND NEW beginner, thank you so much for this clear, concise instructional video. My first dishcloth might be slightly wonky (more diamond shaped than square), but it is recognizably a dishcloth anyway, so I'm very pleased! I'll definitely be referring back to this video again, so make sure you don't delete it!
You won’t believe how much this video means to me. My mom used to make these and I love them, I’m always disappointed that I didn’t learn how to make them from her (she’s been gone 15 years now) I could find the written pattern but I’m a crocheter not a knitter so it didn’t help. But then I found your tutorial and you made it so clear I was done it in a day! My first knitted project and done in a day.! When I look at it I think of how proud my mom would be. She obviously guided me to this video! 💕💕. Thank you so much 💕💕
Sorry for my delayed response Diane (this didn't show in my inbox 6 months ago). I so appreciate you sharing your touching story about your mom. So glad this worked for you! I too am a relatively newbie to knitting and I'm so glad to have this mystery solved in my head.
i have made these dishcloths for 40 years. for a long time my dishcloths came out more diamond shaped instead of square. i finally learned how the make them square: by making a double yarn over (YO) during the increase stage. this may be a phenomenon particular to me but this is how i solved it.
Thank you for showing me how to do this slowly. I have never made these before but I love using them. So I am going to watch you a couple more times and then try it myself. We will see. Thank you again for this video. Appreciate it🙂 - Kendra
Hi. I am a dedicated, long-time crocheter who loves to use a knitted washcloth on my face! This is a great first pattern. Thank you. I will use it often and think of your patient, kind way of teaching. 😺
Thank you for this video. I’m a crocheter and have been STRUGGLING to learn the Continental method. This is the best explanation of how to do it. I learned SO MUCH. Thank you😊
Thank you so much Bonnie! I've made dozens of these dishcloths in the past, but I've always had trouble getting the final point to make it a square shape. The final point always ended up looking like a wizard's hat. Thank you for showing us how to do this correctly.
Wow you weren't kidding about the yarn splitting! Thank you so much for your video because it has motivated me to get back into knitting. I had to watch it a few times to remember how to do it but it was so helpful!
This is also a nicely paced lesson on continental knitting. I’ve been wanting to learn the continental knitting method. Probably won’t use it a lot because of strong muscle memory of American knitting. Thank you🧶🧶
My 2 go-to people for these dish cloths live so far away from me, and I’m on my last one. You give the BEST instructions. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
I appreciate how descriptive you are while going slow. I have been trying to teach myself to knit (through YT) for quite some time and had become frustrated. I decided one more attempt lol and decided a project instead of just practice was in order. I typed”beginner knit project” and you won the vid lottery all because I only had to cast on 3 lol. I’m so happy I have a whole triangle now and it looks like a triangle. Lmao. And your tip of pulling tight the end stitch because that was one thing I was so 😖 Idk how much to thank you. I am grateful for you. Many Blessings
Thank you Barrie! I'm so glad this worked for you! Like you I had many failed attempts over the years but finally got this when my friend took the time to show me the Continental Style of knitting. Take care!
I have been trying to teach myself Knit for over 6 months now off and on I got frustrated and put it down again for another 2 months right before Christmas. Thank you for the tip about the Circular Needles I ordered some and got them today..after 6 months of frustration I finally GOT IT! Thanks to you !!! I am forever grateful for your ease of teaching Bonnie thank you once again!
Hooray! This was my successful knitting project. I'm a crocheter, but your instruction made it super easy! I finished this project in only a couple of days :)
Thank you so much! I tried so many patterns for this type of knitted dish cloths and, I’m able to actually make one. I normally crochet all my dish cloths . Thanks again
This is one of the best you tube videos I’ve seen. The background highlights the yarn choice perfectly. I’m a crocheter and beginner continental knitter. I practiced crochet making dishcloths and I wanted to do the same for continental knitting. ❤️🧶 Thank you!
I have search so many you tube sites and YOURS is the best in showing how to cast on. Other ones try, but their hands always seem to get in the way and I could NOT quite see how to do it. Thank you very much for an awesome example on how to do it!!
I love crochet but I have a very hard time following through with projects because I always seem to lose track of the amount of stitches or I mess up and have to start over so I tried knitting and I love it because it allows me to see all the stitches coming together
This is perfect I recently just started to learn how to knit after many years of crocheting. You explain things so easily and I really enjoy your videos! Thank you.
I love this pattern and have made many dishcloths with this pattern. I even made several blankets using a size 10 knitting needle using this pattern. I just knit until one side is the width I want the blanket before starting the decrease rows. It will be a square blanket when finished. If you want a shawl, just knit until it is the size you want and bind off without doing the decrease rows. Of course to make the blanket or shawl, you will need knitting needles with a long cable to hold all the stitches. It was nice to see a knitting project on your site and hope to see more since you explain things so well.
Thanks for this lesson is easy and fast from Puerto Rico hello and blessings excuse my English I’m speak only Spanish but I’m study little English no too much, congratulations and blessings for your talent .
I absolutely love this! I have been a crocheter for 16 years or so and recently picked up knitting. Yours, by far, is the easiest tutorial to follow for a beginner. Thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’m learning knitting and have yet to master the “easy” dishcloth, for which there are many tutorials for this style. Now I think I can do it!
I made 2 of these so far and they came out oerfect! I tried a similar pattern and it came out pointy on one end...i am so glad I found your pattern! I want to try your knitted beanie and cable patterns next. Thank you so much for your very thorough video tutorials. I also enjoy your crochet videos.
Finally!!!! I’m so happy!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! I’ve tried to follow several other tutorials w no luck! Yours got me the result. Much appreciated! 👏🏽 I’m working on some washcloth Christmas gifts and thanks to you I have a new pattern. The others I’ve done are basic pearl and garter stick. I have the same knitting needles you used in this tutorial. Recently I purchased a six pack of metal loop needles that do not unscrew. They made this knitting project easier as a beginner.
Thanks. I used the new stripey yarn from Peaches & Creme (Spring Blue Stripes). Didn’t use continental method because I used the way I was taught. It’s a fun change from crochet 🧶. Thanks again.
Oh I can't wait to try this. I don't have a size 7 needles but I'm going to try the size 8 circular that I have. I'm a tight knitter so it might be just fine. Thanks for sharing the pattern and video. Have a great weekend!
I was looking for a corner to corner knitting method with the edging effect I'd only seen a picture of elsewhere. It's intended as granny squares Thanks for showing 'the continental' way. All other ways just make me dizzy watching lol. Very soothing voice you have, a pleasure to listen to.
Thank you for the knitting tutorials. I follow many of your crochet patterns, and love them. I enjoy crocheting, but I’ve been itching a bit to try knitting. I’m a pretty proficient crocheter so I’m hoping I can pick up knitting as well. I started Tunisian crocheting to help give some projects, like scarves that knitted look, but I want to definitely learn to knit.
Thank you! I've never had any interest in crochet before but you might just convince me to try it someday! Still, I love your videos, you are a great teacher and I hope you do more knitting videos!
Hi Bonnie. This is such a cute and simple dishcloth. Thank you for the pattern. I used cotton christmas colors and it came out very cute. Yes, I am already making Christmas gifts. I enjoy simplistic patterns now. I think it is my age (69) I don't enjoy the difficult patterns anymore. Also I cannot get the Continental style of knitting . I have tried and it just is not simple for me to get down. Again, that may be my age and lack of patience. LOL. In any case I thank you for all your hard work . See you in your next Live. Hugs from Chicago xx
Thanks for your very sweet comment Bonnie! You are so smart to be working up your Christmas gifts now so the pressure is off during the holidays. No problem on using the traditional English method. Glad this works for you either way. I'm only teaching the way I was first taught. Yes, I to enjoy easy repeat patterns, especially for knitting!
Was able to make this. However I could not do what you called the “Continental method”-very difficult and awkward. I had to call a friend who knits for help. I wound up holding the work in one hand and yarning over with the hand that I was transferring my work to. Also, the holes on the increase were much smaller then on the decrease. I enjoyed this so much I made another. I also did this on straight needs. I am going to invest in needles with wires. I like your point they are much similar to crotchet needle size. Thanks for a great video.
Hi Bonnie, I love your crochet videos as I am just learning how to crochet thanks to you! I have been a knitter forever and just wanted to let you know that in knitting, when you knit every row it is called Garter stitch not Stockinette. Stockinette is when you knit one row, turn and purl the next row. So, you are doing the Garter stitch. Anyway, I love your videos and your wonderful personality! Blessings to you!
Thank you for sharing! Re-teaching myself to knit. I crochet. Try the CHIAOGOO circular knitting needles they come in a set or fixed. They are amazing.
Tina James They are awesome! I prefer stainless steel. Not the cheap metal that are in the big box stores. I’m currently using my ChiaoGoo for a washcloth. Normally I like to knit my dishcloths with bamboo needles. Strange, I know, lol.
Hi Bonnie. I want to learn to make these. I love them as friends have given me a couple. How do I figure out what size needles I need to use for these dish cloths. Thank you for this video. I used to knit a long time ago but it’s been too long and I don’t remember how. Your video will be a huge help. Thanks so much! 😀
Ah-ha! I thought the diagonal version was crocheted when I asked you for the tutorial. 🧶 I’ll definitely try this. I made your crochet version after watching that video - came out good. =) Thank you posting!
Looks like a fun project! FYI..knitting every row is garter stitch. Knitting in the front and purling on the back is stockinette when you are doing flat pieces. Knitting every row when working in the in the round is stockinette, though because you do not have a wrong side. 😉
Thanks for making this video! BUT I'm having some issues, and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. My ending corner always comes out to a point and longer than the starting corner. I've been careful with my tension, but it happens to every one I make. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing to make the descending rows looser and the ending corner pointed out?
I use a US #9 (#7 is too tight for me) it's a great take-a-long project. I even make one while watching movies as I can do it by touch. The pattern I use is the same. CO 4 knit & increase the same until 44 sts across & then Dec the same.
I just finished two of these! Thank you for the amazing tutorial! If I wanted to make these a little bigger, how many loops would I need in the center?
I could do this. I am fairly new to knitting. I did a garter stitch dishcloth a few days ago. I need some circular needles but I see what you are doing. It does appear to be a simple pattern so I might give it a go. I am pretty slow at knitting and crochet, but I get through it.
Oh my goodness… three different knitting for beginners videos before THIS video and I could not GET it! I’m so glad I landed on yours… I was about to give up. I specifically wanted to make a dishcloth like this and it’s how I found you. YOU taught me how to do it! A million times, thank you!!

Same here!! My is more of a diamond shape than square, but hey I did it!!
I tried 5 videos tho .. so thankful to have found you, Bonnie!
I have never ever seen someone hold knitting needles like you did !! I
Learned something new today !!! 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Thank you Alanderson4145! I learned the Continental Method from my friend Lana at the So Original Yarn Store.
I did it! I just did a smaller version to use it as a coaster. Omg I knitted a thing!!! Thanks!
Congratulations Shirleygene!!
Great idea!!
Yay!!! This makes me so happy
That made me laugh… well done 👍🏻
That’s how I’m feeling…. JOY 🥹 I hope all who read this feel the same 💕

@@BonnieBayCrochet ok thank you so much! 😀

Yay! So glad to hear that Michelle!
I am having the same problem! What is causing the last corner to be "stretched" out so much? I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong.
4th video I tried and the one that got me over the hump of learning to start the knit stitch properly. thank you!
Wow you weren't kidding about the yarn splitting! Thank you so much for your video because it has motivated me to get back into knitting. I had to watch it a few times to remember how to do it but it was so helpful!

That's great Lionel! These were also some of my first ventures into knitting after waiting 50 years to learn!
I haven't knitted since I was 9. I want to make this project. I love your beautiful needles. TY
Thank you Barbara!
It was such a nice easy pattern. Looks lovely in variegated yarn! Thank you for sharing!

Hello Dalene..
How are you doing today?
Love the way you explain🤗🤗🤗
Thank you, Bonnie, for this tutorial. 😊
This is a good learning video. Thank you Bonnie. Also, you gave me a laugh every time you said hook lol
Yes, old habits die hard Nicola!! Blessings to you!
💕. Going to try it , for I'm horrible when it comes to knitting 🙃.
I think we all are at first, I know I was! Just take it slow. If it's not a good fit for you Gladys, just move on to what you really enjoy doing.
I am at 10 hours on this project.... 3/4 of the way done. I will try the yarn holding method that you are using to see if I can go a bit quicker.
Oh dear! Learning knitting for the first time can be a bit challenging. I hope this works out for you Soulmuffins!
I don't know how to knit at all. But I'm gonna try this tutorial, thanks Bonnie ❤🤗

Hi Bonnie. I want to learn to make these. I love them as friends have given me a couple. How do I figure out what size needles I need to use for these dish cloths. Thank you for this video. I used to knit a long time ago but it’s been too long and I don’t remember how. Your video will be a huge help. Thanks so much! 😀
Also, I have tried crocheting and was so difficult for me. I did not do well at that. Thx for your help. I just left you another comment above. Thx
Knitting every row is garter stich. Knit 1 row purl the next and on is stockinette stich. I leaned to knit way before crocheting
Ah-ha! I thought the diagonal version was crocheted when I asked you for the tutorial. 🧶 I’ll definitely try this.
I made your crochet version after watching that video - came out good. =)
Thank you posting!
I’d love a crochet pattern for this dish cloth, does anyone have one? Thanks 😊
Excellent I will give a try well explained
Thank you Shahnaz!😊❤️
Thanks Bonnie Great Tutorial
Looks like a fun project! FYI..knitting every row is garter stitch. Knitting in the front and purling on the back is stockinette when you are doing flat pieces. Knitting every row when working in the in the round is stockinette, though because you do not have a wrong side. 😉
Thanks Sue...you caught me in a senior moment!
Thank you! Very clear demo!
Very nice video 👍🇨🇦
I figure it would need to be an odd number, but figured I’d ask before hours of trial and error😂
@@megangagnon7462 I think it all depends on how large you make this Megan.
@@BonnieBayCrochet I’m about half way through I’ll let you know how it goes! I did 52 loops in the center and am working my way down now!
Forgot to update the other day, it turned out perfect! Also using a 4.5 mm instead of a 4 mm helped 😂
@@megangagnon7462 sweet!
I could do this. I am fairly new to knitting. I did a garter stitch dishcloth a few days ago. I need some circular needles but I see what you are doing. It does appear to be a simple pattern so I might give it a go. I am pretty slow at knitting and crochet, but I get through it.
Julie Simoni please don’t worry about speed. Just enjoy the journey!😊❤️
I am also very slow at it. So slow I get frustrated.
Love just love this tutorial and I will be making lots of this dish towel where did you get your needle thanks for this tutorial
Great teacher, thankyou
