Just wanted to let you know that I have completed 3 of these little dish rags. It definitely got easier with the second and 3rd one. My first one was laughable. Now I’m going to try making a larger one. First time knitting and your video was so helpful, thank you!

You won’t believe how much this video means to me. My mom used to make these and I love them, I’m always disappointed that I didn’t learn how to make them from her (she’s been gone 15 years now) I could find the written pattern but I’m a crocheter not a knitter so it didn’t help. But then I found your tutorial and you made it so clear I was done it in a day! My first knitted project and done in a day.! When I look at it I think of how proud my mom would be. She obviously guided me to this video! 💕💕. Thank you so much 💕💕

Sorry for my delayed response Diane (this didn't show in my inbox 6 months ago). I so appreciate you sharing your touching story about your mom. So glad this worked for you! I too am a relatively newbie to knitting and I'm so glad to have this mystery solved in my head.

Much appreciated! 👏🏽 I’m working on some washcloth Christmas gifts and thanks to you I have a new pattern. The others I’ve done are basic pearl and garter stick.
I have the same knitting needles you used in this tutorial. Recently I purchased a six pack of metal loop needles that do not unscrew. They made this knitting project easier as a beginner.

absolutely perfect video! great verbal presentation: good grammar and diction and speed. good organization. better than the best filming. i especially appreciate the blackened background.
i think this is called GARTER STITCH, not stockinette. stockinette stitch is when you knit one row and purl the following row.
thank you for encouraging new knitters. knitting is becoming a lost art and your video helps preserve it.

I love this pattern and have made many dishcloths with this pattern. I even made several blankets using a size 10 knitting needle using this pattern. I just knit until one side is the width I want the blanket before starting the decrease rows. It will be a square blanket when finished. If you want a shawl, just knit until it is the size you want and bind off without doing the decrease rows. Of course to make the blanket or shawl, you will need knitting needles with a long cable to hold all the stitches. It was nice to see a knitting project on your site and hope to see more since you explain things so well.

Was able to make this. However I could not do what you called the “Continental method”-very difficult and awkward. I had to call a friend who knits for help. I wound up holding the work in one hand and yarning over with the hand that I was transferring my work to. Also, the holes on the increase were much smaller then on the decrease. I enjoyed this so much I made another. I also did this on straight needs. I am going to invest in needles with wires. I like your point they are much similar to crotchet needle size. Thanks for a great video.

Hi Bonnie, I love your crochet videos as I am just learning how to crochet thanks to you! I have been a knitter forever and just wanted to let you know that in knitting, when you knit every row it is called Garter stitch not Stockinette. Stockinette is when you knit one row, turn and purl the next row. So, you are doing the Garter stitch. Anyway, I love your videos and your wonderful personality! Blessings to you!

Looks like a fun project! FYI..knitting every row is garter stitch. Knitting in the front and purling on the back is stockinette when you are doing flat pieces. Knitting every row when working in the in the round is stockinette, though because you do not have a wrong side. 😉

Try the CHIAOGOO circular knitting needles they come in a set or fixed. They are amazing.

Tina James They are awesome! I prefer stainless steel. Not the cheap metal that are in the big box stores. I’m currently using my ChiaoGoo for a washcloth. Normally I like to knit my dishcloths with bamboo needles. Strange, I know, lol.

Hi Bonnie. I want to learn to make these. I love them as friends have given me a couple. How do I figure out what size needles I need to use for these dish cloths. Thank you for this video. I used to knit a long time ago but it’s been too long and I don’t remember how. Your video will be a huge help. Thanks so much! 😀

I am at 10 hours on this project.... 3/4 of the way done. I will try the yarn holding method that you are using to see if I can go a bit quicker.

Great video, I’m very new to knitting and this helped so much. Im just wondering, what’s the “normal/ average” amount of time this is supposed to take to make one?

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  5 років тому +2

That's a great question Georgie. I'm not very fast at knitting, and I believe this took me between 2-3 hours, if I am remembering correctly.

Bonnie - great video, thank you! Quick question: the camera is very close when you show your work, which is normally great, but makes learning the cast-on work a little difficult. I am not familiar with the long tail cast on, and I can't tell which string is the tail and which string is from the source yarn. Is there any way you can help me discern this?

I use a US #9 (#7 is too tight for me) it's a great take-a-long project. I even make one while watching movies as I can do it by touch. The pattern I use is the same. CO 4 knit & increase the same until 44 sts across & then Dec the same.

Thanks for making this video! BUT I'm having some issues, and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. My ending corner always comes out to a point and longer than the starting corner. I've been careful with my tension, but it happens to every one I make. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing to make the descending rows looser and the ending corner pointed out?

I could do this. I am fairly new to knitting. I did a garter stitch dishcloth a few days ago. I need some circular needles but I see what you are doing. It does appear to be a simple pattern so I might give it a go. I am pretty slow at knitting and crochet, but I get through it.
