It’s wonderful to see you back, Joel! 💚 I’ve been replaying the video “How to make the next 100 days the best of your life” and applied the “burn the ship” method you mentioned for my career change. I feel positive about my decision, even though some people around me may not understand why I decided to stay at home, learn about myself, and prepare for a new career. They seem uneasy and want to hurry things along, but I’m staying true to my choice. Thank you for creating that video. I truly value and support your sharing of knowledge and experiences. It has been beneficial and transformative for viewers, and I hope you continue to share with the community of lifelong learners on the same journey as you.
@daodiennhi6189, thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement. It means a lot to me. The path to the career of your dreams can be filled with friends and family who have doubts, but it sounds like you are staying true to yourself and forging ahead. That takes a lot of strength and you should be proud of yourself! Thanks again for turning in and sharing those kind words. If there is ever anything I can do to help with this new career, please let me know!
Love the premises of all five tips. It has been incredible to not only watch you and your network in the trenches, but also to see you come out the other side. Here is to the 30s!
Joel At the start of my career/job at small-medium scale company after completing my internship should i aspire to be a Generalist or a Specialist at 1 skill or something like that ? What works the best to achieve success at faster pace in terms of making money.. I work as a Hvac design engineer for commercial air conditioning projects in Aec construction industry. Good books suggestions on this topic would be helpful if you could recommend some..
Usually, highly specialized technical skills tend to lead to the highest incomes. But that takes time. There is nothing wrong with starting out with a general, open mind and specializing as you learn more and more what you like, what you are good at, and what people want to pay you a lot of money to do.
Super Valuable tips ⭐ Could you tell me how to bounce back after some failures in the context of professional growth & thoughtful preparation to tackle upcoming challenges head on ? Especially in the face of uncertainty where there are a lot of things to do so how to go step by step without getting caught in unnecessary or less rewarding tasks.. Would be interesting to see your favourite books recommendations on these subjects to extract specific information..
Thanks so much for tuning in and the kind words. I think the best book on challenges, failures is "The Obstacle Is the Way" by Ryan Holliday. I would highly recommend reading or listening to it. I have a lot of thoughts on failures, but to sum it up: 1. Everyone, and I mean everyone, who does hard things, experiences years of hardship. It is the price one must pay to get to the next level. 2. Wisdom tell us that life is less about what happens to you and more about how you react to what happens to you. 3. If you find you are failing more than you'd like, do everything you can to find mentorship. Someone who can guide you through those challenges and help you avoid mistakes along the way.
Joel could you also share tips on How to convince employers to hire me when i had a 4 yrs career gap just after my internship period due to covid & family reasons ? Also i haven't done any volunteer job or certification courses during this period but i have watched many useful lectures on UA-cam + all the essential skills required to do my role as hvac design engineer in Aec construction industry..so how to tailor my resume? Possible ways to handle upcoming challenges or opportunities to succeed without coming up across as unprofessional in any way ?? Any book recommendations on this topic to get selected would be helpful too...
The single most important thing going interview is explaining honestly to the employer how this job will help you achieve your dream. Does it help you support your family, does it help you learn a skill you care about deeply, does hit help you serve a community you care about deeply, etc. The key is being super clear on why this job is right for you and why you will stay motivated at it for a long time. If HVAC work is your goal, is there a trade school you can go to? Can you convince someone to let you apprentice with them for a year, etc? Gain the skills and you'll be incredibly highly sought after.
@@joelr5840 Thank you so much 💚 it means a lot !! On this topic also of gaining soft skills & money making or becoming expert at our field which top books comes to ur mind ? In the mean time i will read those 📗 books to be prepared for the challenges or opportunities..
yeah, it all sounds good but in real life we actually have to consider both good and bad things that can happen during the process, what if i won't be able to make any buisness niether will be able to study and get a good job, like literally ducked up from all sides'
Hey, thanks for the feedback. I think it is all a question of what you value most. Do you value the dream most, do you value money most, time with others, etc. For me, it was never about money. It was always about creating something new during my time on earth. That is how I measured success. I knew things could go badly (they did for many years) but I put the dream above everything, which I think is a common theme of those who pursue their passions.
