Purchased this to replace a guide pulley ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxO9seYZjlnuP5UvMkb7osQW3WxPVeSnPk on our John Deere x304 snowblower. As I stated in the title, it is just about perfect. The stock pulley has a spacer at the bottom. I used four washers to emulate said spacer, and it works perfectly now. Great product, and great price especially if compared to typical JD prices.

I know what, ima do that. I'll start by recreating and setting up the chasis with the axels, then I'll be shoving a rb motor in the storage area of the cart, then I'll set up a turbocharger and I'll give it a blasting exhaust. And to wrap it all up, I'll give the thing max camber. Cruising down the street in my shopping cart, jockin the bitches, slapping the hoes
When you want to mow the lawn only 1 time during the summer.
I'd use a smaller turbine but you could probably keep the larger compressor. That turbine is certainly too big for the low levels of exhaust. Also a smaller a/r would most likely help too as it will create higher gas velocity and spool the turbine more effectively. Being such a small engine with one speed you don't have to worry about maxing out boost before hitting your top end rpm as it will pretty much only be running at the same rpms the entire time.
A:R ratio would not be as important as turbine size and trim.
Turboing the Honda 😍
That will not work, and here's why:
Turbo produces boost. Lawnmower engine uses a carburettor, which operates on suction from the engine to pull fuel out of the tank and atomize it. When boost (if any) will be introduced to the intake manifold, it will literally push the fuel back into the carb. You need specialized push-through carburettors to mount the turbo like that. Alterntively, you can mount the carburettor BEFORE the turbo so it will have the suction it needs - but you risk premature ignition from the hot side of the turbo. Also, you will dramatically decrease the turbo's bore that way - it will essentialy hae to pull all its air through the tiny carb - so you will lose a lot of potential power. There are two ways around it:
-Get a smaller turbo and a push-through/bigger carb
-install mechanical or electronic injection
Though each of those scenarios defeat the purpose of mounting a turbo on a
lawnmower. Maybe go with a blower first?
Also: the turbo is way too big for that engine to produce any usable boost.

So the carburetor needs to have boost pressure applied to both its throat and it's sealed float bowl side so it isn't trying to push fuel backwards?
Grygory Malchuk exactly. That's how push-through carbs work - additional air passages in the carb body even out the pressure and let the fuel be sucked into the engine.

Seriously. To even think that 143cc would build even the slightest amount of boost on a turbocharger capable of 20lbs min of airflow is just ridiculous and shows a lack of intelligence/knowledge lol!

Interesting project. But from my experience, Tecumseh engines are very finicky and are a pain to start/keep running. I'd be interested to see this modification attempted on a Briggs & Stratton L-Head. This is pretty cool though!
Tecumseh engines are good...it was the fine jets in the carburettors that caused a lot of problems...these problems gave Tecumseh a bad name in Australia...you are right though, not the best choice....L Head would be better but would still need to limit the rpm because of piston slap.

Considering the RC car hobby, even though I've never purchased a gasoline-powered RC (mainly due to the price), I know considering at what I've seen at my local RC hobby store they are based around a small gasoline engine similar to that from a push lawnmower or weed whackers. With that in mind, using your logic here, one could in theory turbocharge an RC car.

...I'm loving every part of this 5 years later.
I believe the turbo was spinning only because of the vibration from the engine. For turbos to do their job properly, they require a specific ratio of the exhaust air pressure, the amount of air the turbo holds, the size of piping used for everything, and the size of the turbo. to complete these calculations, you need to know how much psi of air your exhaust is pushing through the end at stock levels ,so you can find the right size turbo, Exhaust piping, manifold, turbo intake tubing, (ect.) Go at this project again! I honestly think it would be pretty cool, And VERY funny if this lawn mower made boost! Keep at it, and (if you are even reading this) I hope my comment helped. :)
They do make smaller turbochargers but for high performance small engines. RHB31 VZ21 is the type to look for on ebay... It even might be too big for this engine since if you remove the rpm limiter to get more output volume... Its very likely to blow up.
I had much smaller turbo than that on old russian made UD type 1 that was 300cc single cylinder 4 stroke... It didnt have a whole lot of boost but it definitely needed rpm limiter to be set around 7k... Im sure it went over 15 000 rpm and was climbing really fast when the connecting rod snapped. I thought of putting it on small tractor but the turbo needed more output volume.. So at higher RPM it started to actually make proper boost to be effective.
It wasnt all I did for this engine, I also increased compression and ported cylinderhead, it was a flathead type, those are kind of pain in the ass engines since its very difficult to get good enough airflow in and out.
Record a second attempt I liked the video. Maybe you could thread one end that goes into both the turbocharger and the lawnmower, but something that popped in the head for me is maybe the lawnmower just didn't have enough power to stay on with you replacing the part you took off. So maybe the engine needed more power stay on.

You have to put the carb somewhere on the set up so it doesn’t get put under boost, the carb needs vacuum to operate. If the carb gets boost it’ll just push the fuel back into the lines.
That is the same as an turbo charged civic. :)

HAHAHAHA I could not stop laughing from the moment I saw the title,fun watching though. how about a 2jz lawnmower swap or a hayabusha engine swap next.
The pipe is a 1/2" or 3/4" nipple with half of a union on it. Id suggest taking a flat piece of 1/8" steel and tracing the shape of the muffler flange. Cut it out and weld a pipe to build a manifold onto or adapt to the turbo manifold. It will prob keep your block from breaking or being damaged from the nipple vibrating and damaging the block when it jiggles loose and the tyrbo prob fallbs off in your yard. I did this on a riding mower years ago the played more with it changed it out to a custom intake with twin mikuni carbs. And stacks for exaust. My friends mother was pissed when she got the mower back and was pulling wheel stands in her yard with 12" wide rear wheels in second gear. Wheely bars helped solve most of that. Added weights on the front of the mower helped as well. You may want to play with electric powered turbos as well. There are motors now that are capable of providing the power needed to move the air necessary to make a difference and or spin a modified turbo. Kind of a nash up of supercharger and turbo . Have fun and wear steel toed shoes....and a cup. Ya never know when your stuff will work realky well only to find that the guy that built the original project vehicle may not have been focusing that day he put it together. Redo the block to manifold. Use nipple out to a union. Squished union out of manifold to nipple with other half of union then you tighten the union without having to rotate the entire system. It sits still you pull the two together with the union. Guess ill get back to the video to see if it works. Last thing you might add a pcv valve to allow pressure release. Sorry it didnt do what you wanted. One last suggestion. It looks like uou have a newer style carb that iuis epa friendly. No throttle control. Dig thru thffe neighbors shgved and find a 40year old mower with throttle control. Use that carb. You will need more fuel if you fix your exust issues. Remove tge governor. Trash the squished union. Go to a muffler shop with motor gteads working there and have them braze a flange you make that will bolt to the manifold then do the union fitting to join the block to the turbo. I toyed with this on a fully wireless remote controlled mower i build 30 years ago. I loved laying on a lawn chair drinking beer while i mowed old man Noeys yard across the street three houses down and got paid to do it. Decided faster wasnt necessarily better in that project.

You don't need to self tap that pipe into the exhaust, it's the same size threads. Perhaps a form of belt drive to the turbo off the flywheel is in order, friend.
