3 reasons why this turbo kit doesn't work.
1. WG valve flap is open so it does not generate any boost. (You can see how loose it is at 16:08)
2. blow through system without fuel pressure compensation will work for a few seconds until the boost returns all the fuel from the carburetor to the tank.
3. oil drain from the turbo. Do you really expect that some magical force will push the turbo oil uphill into the tank? The fact that there is no smoke in the video is probably the result of the fact that the fuel pump that is supposed to pump the oil probably cannot pump the oil to the turbine.
Do not get me wrong. It's not that I'm criticizing your work. But when you do something, try not to make basic mistakes that would be noticed by someone who knows something about it. Your turbo kit may work, but it requires some work.
My suggested solutions to the problem
1. Weld the WG (you have no control over the boost) or reinstall the actuator
2. There are two options. Fuel pump (min. 1bar/15psi) with a fuel pressure regulator or a simpler method like in RC models, connect the boost from the intake to the fuel tank. Fuel pressure must increase with boost.
3. There are also two options. Second return pump or install the receiver below the turbocharger. And make sure oil is flowing to turbocharger. If there is a problem with this, try using oil with a lower viscosity, e.g. 0w8 or 2t or mix diesel fuel + oil.
Another solution could also be to place the turbo after the carburetor, so it doesn't pressurize the fuel
@@nano-kevinlockhart2295
yes, but then the supercharger should be an ihi turbo with a carbon seal
*His angle grinder work is top notch, brackets look plasma-cut.*
Only problem here: it simply won't make extra HP with that wastegate arm flopping around with no actuator. It's going to be both an exhaust and intake restriction.
Calling BS on this video, The wastegate is hanging open so its making absolutely no boost, and you have a blow-through setup which will not work for gravity fed fueling. You need a pull through set up, but then again, puting a turbo designed for a 1-2 litre engine on a 200cc engine wont yield results anyway, as it cannot put out enough exhaust volume to get the turbine spinning fast enough to make any real boost.
Any amount of boost (even 2 to 3 psi) will be very noticeable, if the air/fuel ratio is correct.
Dont forget the turbo oil system lol, Surprised it isn't smoking like a train with the oil drain feeding upwards. For sure this thing makes less power now
@@CC3series it literally ran like shit. Ivd seen his other videos and now it dies when he gets off
Interesting…….would love to watch your video showing your fabrication skills…..so if you would kindly direct us to where you’ve posted your handiwork we will indeed watch them.
@@beboboymann3823 its not about fab skills this isnt even that impressive its just scap metal welded together with a cheap mig. I know becuase I do the same thing lol. And you can clearly dee in the video the engine runs poorly
I'm trying to work out why you removed the wastegate actuator. There's nothing regulating the amount of boost from the turbo any more.
It works both ways, maintaining backpressure in the turbo to spool it up, then reliving excess boost to stop you nuking the engine.
In the end, you've added a bigger carburettor and a fan in the exhaust that's not doing anything meaningful but generate noise to 'sound more powerful'.
a turbo from a 1.6l engine wont nuke a 200cc engine, it barely spins enough lol
@@djilu9916 Yes it can, it's got nothing to do with how fast it spins or what engine it was from, it's how much air that turbocharger is flowing at any given moment and what it's doing to the fuel-air mixture going into the engine.
Too rich and it'll bog down and stall, but too lean for even a moment..it'll detonate. Ka-boom. Bye-bye piston, conrod and crankcase.
Look at the video again and note carefully that he's driving it around with the turbocharger wastegate actuator completely removed. You can see the wastegate control arm bouncing around on the manifold. This means that turbocharger has absolutely no way of regulating itself because of that...which means that the fuel-air mixture is probably all over the place already.
@@mazdamaniac4643naah.. it wont make any boost, turbo is way too big to spool up. and it's not explode right away when it goes lean(withing seconds).
@@villekinnunen6357 You're entitled to your assumption.
It's not about boost, it's about flow. Even with that turbo being way too big for that engine (if it was hooked up correctly) it flows far too much air through that carburettor for the fuel mixture to ever be controlled accurately.
With a turbocharger fitted onto an engine that was never designed for it, things go wrong very quickly. A suddenly lean mixture can, will and does detonate engines...you've likely seen it happen on many of the exploding engines on dyno's vids.
Lean mixtures are the bane of turbo's, because an engine that begins to run lean starts to generate excessive exhaust gas pressure, which spins the turbo up more for a moment, adding to the problem more quickly than someone can react to. Instinct says to dump the throttle, 9 times out of 10, that's when the engine detonates because the fuel is snapped shut and goes extremely lean. Just one explosion event happening in the cylinder within a microsecond at high rpm or load is all it takes...bye bye piston and conrod.
This is why turbocharged engines on carbs typically run on the rich side of fuelling, so they have as much tolerance for some uneven fuel mixture as possible, to reduce that risk. It's difficult and complicated to make a carburettor run rich, against boost, when the throttle is snapped shut.
Blow through carb setup with no fuel pump, carb vent lines open, turbo waste gate open. Fabricating skills 10/10. Engine, turbo and carb knowledge 0/10
Yeah this video is mainly about the views and money, teaching viewers anything valuable isn't what they do.
Funny video, it must have been really good, especially with the west gate open, without a carburetor doser and with the turbo oil drain higher than the turbo!😂😂😂
Nooo, you must put the carburetor BEFORE the turbo, otherwise the pressure from the turbo will push the fuel back from the carburetor, hence make less power. so the "extra power" you feel is just because you've upgraded the carburetor
The improvement here is from the carb and removal of the governor control, not the turbo.
Wastegate actuator left the chat. Still working as N/A 🤷🏻♂️
Problems:
1. pressurized carb - pushes fuel back to the tank on boost
2. wastegate - should be closed or set to open at specific pressure
3. turbo size - way too big for 200cc engine
It revs higher because of bigger carb, not by the boost.
I'd like to see dyno session before and after
I think all the power increase you got was just from the new carb, the waste gate is open so you're getting no boost, would be a good thing to add a boost gauge and see how much you're actually getting.
Change to a blow through carb and wire the wastegate closed. Then full send it. This was a waste of effort and fab skills. No sub for you.
Painfull to look at when you know something about turbocharged engines
?
@@zakkabbani3035 Turbo too big (will never make boost), did you notice the waste gate lever not connected to anything? Yeah, you can fake stuff for the uneducated.
I will remember not to click on any other vid by this guy.
The poor thing. Misfiring and all.
Did you really leave the wastegate open, the turbo can't work
It couldn't have worked from the beginning
😂
Sorry got to call Bull shit on this! having done this for a living, built many turbo motorcycles and car engines, this video looks great if you have no ideal whats going on!
here are the issues,
1: you cant gravity feed fuel to a blow through carby set up! fuel pressure needs to be higher than boost pressure or the fuel wont flow into the foat bowl.
2: some sort of fuel enrichment needs to happen when on boost, additional boost pressure needs to be sent to fuel bowl under boost as well as aditional fuel pressure.
3: with out ignition retard on boost or very high octane fuel, this engine will detonate it self to death
4: this engines, internal splash oil lubrication wont work well under the additional load of turbo charging.
5: to make more engine power the engine must see boost ! hard for a turbo to do that when you didnt fit the waste gate ! i am gueesing the engine would not run due the the mentioned carby issues
so to make this turbo engine run, he had to remove the waste gate controller! that means no boost.
no boost no additinal hp made, so a total waste of time!
this video is nothing more than a deception , the guy making this video has no idea!
Totally agree
came here to say that
I noticed the wastegate disconnected, also noticed the lack of a fuel pump. If he fixed these issues he might run 0.3 bar not more and make about 10 hp and the carburetor tuning would be very difficult to say the least, better run fuel injection.
@@serenerebel1983 same
the wastegate valve without the wg actuator it's always in open bro :D so the turbo not boosting...
Turbo is too large. Even if it was smaller, here are things he got wrong.
1-Wastegate open. (There cannot be more air-fuel mixture in engine during power stroke. Which is the whole point of turbo)
2-Too little oil in the system (oil went to hoses and did not add more.)
3-Oil volume for turbo is too low, and does not have filter. And due to low volume of oil, it will get too hot.
4-carburator needs to be before turbo intake
5-engine is aircooled, and it probably melts after short period (assuming all the problems regarding turbo are fixed)
Nice idea. And nicely fabricated parts using simple tools.
Unfortunately it was more like 5-minute crafts. Pointless hand waving, without intention to success.
Did you do this just for views? The way you have it, takes power from the engine.
Without control over wastegate flap it makes nothing.
I love the passive aggressive heart he gave you
Can’t put boost thru a carb that way. When it turns from vacuum to boost it will force fuel the wrong direction thru the jets and blow fuel out the float bowl vent pipes. You have to add a small vaccuum hose and direct pressure to the float bowl vents to equalize pressure inside the float bowl when under boost. Besides that it can be made to work!
it would help to even make boost the waste gate was just flopping
просто нужно вокруг карбюратора камеру сделать. давление должно быть одинаковым и на впуске и вокруг карбюратора. ну и жиклер увеличить и иглу поднять
Nope! Fake! No boost was being made! The wastegate was left open and all the exhaust pressure was escaping around the turbo.
Even if the turbo wastegate was welded closed, or something, the boost would have pushed gas backwards into the fuel tank. That carburetor is on the wrong side of the turbo. 🤦♂️
Fake!
More of that oil cant go uphill from turbo. Basics. Exhaust was also too long to make any power, to much heat waste.
@@jasio1212 for sure! When he was putting on the turbo drain line, I was literally talking to the video, "no! You can't do it that way, it has to drain down!", and "filter, you need a filter!" 🤦♂️
Nice build but the turbo system didn't do anything at all.😅 First of all it doesn't make boost because the wastegate is always open, second if it made boost it wouldn't work just like that. The turbo oil drain has to be higher than the tank. The only thing that made the engine a little more aggressive is that PWK.😅😅
Not a bad job but it looks like the only power gain was from the slide carburetor and governor bypass...both allowing it to rev past 3-3600 rpms. It certainly didn't sound like it was making boost.
sounds like it makes no boost because of this reason lol 10:04
funny idea, but here it's only for decoration
you forgot to close the wastegate....
How not to install a turbo:
This guy actualy made the engine worse.
11:04 okay i see what people are bitching about now. He obviously assumed the standard wastegate would build too much psi and blow the motor apart. So he either needs to install some sort of electronic boost controller or a lower pressure waste gate. Unfortunately yes this engine wont make any boost and youll actually have put a big drain on it by restricting air intake and exhaust with longer tubes and a turbine
I doubt that tiny engine wuld build much boost anyway, let alone enough to blow the motor up.
How's it make boost with the waste gate flapping around?
The carb should go on the intake of the turbocharger and then into the engine
Are you a rocket scientist...
@@Guds777 Basic physics dude.
Suck-through carburettors need a partial vacuum on the intake side of it to work correctly. Applying positive boost pressure from a turbocharger blows air backwards through the carburettor's internals and completely messes up the fuel/air mixture being delivered out of the carburettor, usually leans it right out. It can also cause the petrol in the float bowl to blown right out of it's vent and then force air into the fuel tank when the float drops, instantly starving the carburettor of fuel.
This is why you have either sealed blow-through carbs with fuel pumps feeding them, or you have a suck-through mounted in front of the turbo inlet...or fuel injection.
@@Guds777 Sorry no not that clever, I am only a time served mechanic of 50 years and have worked on Mitsubishi Starion full blown rally cars, super charged 6.5 Lt Shelby Cobras, Chrysler Tigers and full blown Mini Coopers (1960s) to name but a few so I shouldn't comment on things I know nothing about, sorry 😔
,
Along with multiple other problems with this build, the Turbo oil drain can not be higher then the turbo.
Guy could probaly sell some of his grinder disc and wire brush collection and buy a HF plasma cutter!
I know his wife and neighbors would appreciate it!!
Sounds like it's barely even running, turbo needs to be after the carb in a non pressure-fed setup.
You can play with the wastegate for more boost and power. (Always checking the boost pressure). Nice job!!!
100% did not work. you can NOT run a carb on a turbo build without a fuel pressure regulation system
get a double-throw switch. run ground to the center of the switch. run one side of the switch to the engine kill wire, and run the other side of the switch to the pump ground. run A FUSED WIRE from battery positive to the pump positive.
switch on = oilpump on and "run"
switch off = oilpump off and engine-kill.
you wont be able to run the engine without the oil pump switched on!
Unfortunately putting that turbo on that engine has done nothing for performance. You have just added weight, if it ever put the waste gate back on it so it could develop boost then it will go lean from the pressure blowing fuel out. Put the carb the other side of the turbo and put the waste gate back on then it will be interesting 👌🏼
Who the hell has a parts counter in their shop? I'm just happy to have a beer fridge in mine!
Oilcooler? Wastegate Rod?
I'd have to see before and after dyno results for this before I believe one word of it!
There are so many things wrong in this video... That turbo oil drain, how is that going to work? And that carb..? 🙈
Lol I know, the oil coming out of that turbo is going to get very hot very quickly and there's no way that hose is going to withstand that.
The oil drain pipes from a turbocharger are *metal* for a very good reason!
Take off the carb and mount it on the turbo inlet and remove the Wastegate
this guy bothers me
“ Now , the engine looks like much more powerful “ :)
14:32 wastegate disconected and open, thats is making no power
and the carb float chamber isn't pressurized with boost, on boost it would run lean / blow fuel back in to float chamber, and needs fuel pump higher than boost pressure, that's prob why wastegate disconected, so that it actually runs. i call bullshit on this video, sorry 😀😀😀😀
easiest way - put carb on turbo INLET and outlet straight to engine - then carb can run at atmos pressure 😀😀😀😀
The oil for the turbo needs a cooler and a filter
The carburetor must be installed before the turbocharger
Yep, or else your fueling is all over the place or if it's really bad you can actually blow the fuel out of the carb and back into the tank when it comes on boost.
That leans out your mixture and it'll detonate. I've got a feeling that's why this guy has removed the wastegate actuator, so there's no boost at all anymore.
You can get a sealed blow-through carburettor, but you generally need to pump fuel into it for it to work...and it's a lot of tuning work to get it to run reasonably well.
I think we all want to see more about your project bmw pickup
BS video, ppl aint stupid knowing the setup didnt work and you have the wastegate hanging. Go put the carb in front of the turbo and hook up the gate
How is generating boost with wastegate opened?
Exactly. I mean.... it's just sitting there with no arm...
even though the carb is the only real power gain its still looks cool just need to do some modifcations and revision
Yeah....we don't need no stinkin' waste gate! LOL😂🤣😆🤣
xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
A Wastegate nie otwarte i turbo nie pompuje
0 boosta a w dodatku tylko dławi ten silnik przez brak paliwa (to tylko moja opinia)
New carburator?
FAKE FAKE WASTE GATE IS NOT CLOSED TURBO CAN'T BE WORK THAT AND ANOTHER ONE THIS CARBURETOR CAN'T TAKE AIR PRESSURE BECAUSE IF YOU PUSH ANY AIR PRESSURE IN THIS CARBURATOR YOUR FUEL BACK TO TANK OR LEAK OUT XD
Ok fine but calm your self
Guarda meglio scienziato
il a gagné du poids 😁
And it’s ten times bigger than that engine could spool
Sure buddy it doesn't do that😂😂
The carby has to fit before the turbo not between turbo and engine
"Be careful disassembling a turbo" *whacks it with a hammer several times*
Nice try kid but if it was making ANY boost it would not run! It would pressurize the carb and not let any fuel into it.
Agreed, need to plug the vents and use a fuel press. regulator with a boost reference to match fuel & boost press. equally to have any luck. E.F.I. is the way to go imo.
The carburetor should stand up to the turbine
@@paradiselost9946I don't catch your drift, but I do think your right on with more B.S. as this video is too.
@@paradiselost9946P,S, By the way Mr."carburetor whiz" there is no "pitot tube" in a carburetor. They are on the outside of airplanes or wherever there is a need to measure the velocity of fluids or gases. You sound like you have lost something besides paradise.
Does nobody know how a carb works, hello? Uhh, venturi. The boost would just blow over it and suck more fuel with it
Your coolest projects really look like a cool update to that racing tractor. always fun to watch your videos. enjoy your weekend. 😘🤠❄️🇳🇱
There's no way you will get any boost. The weight of that turbo alone will slow the whole thing down.
Hey bro not working turbo , westgate is open
Just for fun only, no boost 😂
The turbine gate appears to be open. If the actuator is not controlled, no boost will be applied.
The waste gate was left loose so this thing wasn't doing anything except running stock with the weight of a turbo just sitting there doing nothing except spooling up and making nothing for power.
Definitely not a DIY turbo instruction video, far to many things done wrong, not different, wrong.
Love the build, but I don't think the exhaust flow will be enough to do much with that size turbo. Which is good since if it did, that engine would definitely toss a cranck 😅😊
one of my favorite things to do when i get any small motor, a lawnmower, or a go kart, is port and polish the heads.
easy tiny torque gain, and everytime i sell it, extra money
drinling into paint putting screws without painting before rust is going to love this project
you need to weld the waste gate closed it wont be making any boost.
Boost gauge will tell you without the wastegate shut you have a exhaust restriction and more vacuum than stock
It wont make any boost, turbo charger is for a 1400 cc engine and has no boost for a 200 cc engine
Depends. Diesel turbo's can be used for small gas engines, though admittedly it's better to get the right turbo.
@@jooch_exe Air mass flow rate doesn't match for this setup
don't think it really work.
huge turbo for this engine.
carb must be before turbo.
so i think you have no MAP.
added power come from throttle delete only.
No you can use a blow through system but this turbo is too big
@@UA-camforcedmetochangemyname ok, didn't know it was available on a small carb.
You need to re-jet your carb. My son and I and our friends build racing mini bikes with 212cc motors all the time. If your carb came with a jet kit make sure that you check to see which one came pre-installed on the carb because we have to change the jets to like a 130 sometimes a bit lower but you will get the most horsepower out of it and it will run smoothly.
turbo oil drain has to be bellow turbo, if wastegate is always open then u arnt making enough boost etc etc
I turbocharger a scott bonnar lawn mower as a kid on methanol fuel. I love everything about this. Few changes and you'll get that thing rocking. ❤❤❤
The tractor looks awesome, and as one other commenter said, your fab skillz are 10/10. But yes, a mechanical fuel fump with a greater psi rating (by at least what the engine needs to run N/A) would make it so that turbno (yes, i spelled it that way on purpose) would actually add boost. It also needs a small intercooler. Think stock Suburu WRX/Suzuki Alto Works style, or even a larger sized heater core if that youtubesteak skrill is running thin.
Everything is great!
Except for the air filter 🤯🤯🤯
too cool.. I would have added a fuel filter and oil filter. I think a stater would be a good idea to keep the oil pump battery charging, then you could add lights too
As Jeremy Clarkson always said, 'what bad can happen?'

Nice little project I have a Honda Grom that I just put a tiny turbo on fun to race around town on
Nice i wait for this video long time its useless but its freaking cooool
as soon as i seen there was no possibility of compression i lost interest
So all you did is carb swap it with a lot of unnecessary parts added as well also turbo drains go downhill can't go up any without a scavenge pump but other then either your misunderstanding of engines or your misinformation not too bad as far as fab and design goes
turbos will return oil without being pointed down
Nice job, looks like you need a on dash on and off switch and a longer pull rope for better access.
Love the editing! Congratulations mate...From OzTralia
pretty sure you are losing power with that turbo, remove it and just use the larger carb and better air filter, maybe consider replacing the camshaft, porting the cylinder head ect, much more potential in these areas
Best upgrade ever 🤩👍
It looks like a fun build, good job
Amazing! Thank you for sharing this video. Greetings from Madang, Papua New Guinea!
The wastegate level control are not connected, the turbo non work in this way
L'aumento di potenza è legato al carburatore, la turbina non va in pressione perchè se così fosse la benzina uscirebbe dai fori di compensazione presenti ei lati della vaschetta del carburatore.
Your Wastegate is opening all the time because it's not closed. Its better when you weld it shut.
When you have ported and turbocharged (TD04L) 1216cc Suzuki 4cyl motorcycle with IC and separate carbs, normal use boost around 0.8bar (~300hp rear wheel). Carbs are vacuum (pressurized by boost of course) you can start take the pain of trying to to make it work properly every time and everywhere. I can take some turbo (just from shelf) and stick it to old VW Bora and tell it's ok.. It's really painfull to see if someone else makes this same. All work quality seems mint though.
If u wanna add some healt in it you can put a mudguard to the airfilter side!
you should also consider upgrading the head including the valves, camshaft, springs and rockers. then you should add a stronger piston rod and crank.
wastegate is open all the time so no boost
What about electric start ??
Love it. I need a garden tractor
Now it needs a intercooler

Carb is on the wrong side of the turbo with this fuel system. All this does is make turbo noises.
not even that.. 😏
