Thank you so much for the feedback on the video ☺️ I love your suggestion about including b12 & supplements (I always assume people know this, but am totally taking that for granted!). As a whole, it meant a lot as someone who initially was very much influenced by the early vegan youtubers regarding what vegan food “should” look like. Also, taking notes and will be trying tofu french toast, barilla pasta and the nugo slim bars ✍️
@MdoubleHB haha ok.
@MdoubleHB sure, that will work if you eat your own poop. I prefer the B12 pill...
@MdoubleHB i know you are but what am i?
I didn't know your channel, I instantly subscribed ! We need more channels like this
"If you're not salty, & fatty, & have no nutritional value whatsoever.."
I'm Swayze's type in chip form.
every time you talk about your kids and use “they/them” i am reminded of how much i appreciate you👏🏻👏🏻
Is that to protect their identities?
@@smileyraw yes
is there other version how to talk about them? why i can not think anything but they/them? non native English spraker here
@@nom3nnescio she’s actively using they/them to protect their privacy:) she could also use she/her or he/him but would give away their gender while doing so:)
@@janellevombey7353 but talking about both of them, is there some other words to use instead of they/them?
I’ve been vegan since August of this year. I started eating lots of beans and grains but I got so sick with digestive issues I almost quit veganism. I had to take it easy with the beans I am eating more tofu for protein. I am also eating more fermented veggies and fruit and it has helped a lot.
Also, some mock meats can help with this. We were raised mostly vegetarian, and I am now vegan. My sister is semi-vegetarian, and she cannot handle beans like me. She does like some Gardein and Beyond Meat options when trying to eat less meat.
In south asia we put ginger to help the with beans and lentils. Ginger neutralizes the beans making u gassy
I mainly use textured soy protein (since before veganism I usually ate minced meat) myself, maybe that could be something that'd also work for you? The very least it would bring you more variety/option in protein sources ☺️
Yes, textured soy protein is great. Highly recommended. About the beans and lentils: It helps changing the water once during cooking and some ingredients help digesting. Cumin is good in those dishes and in Austria we always add a teaspoon of a special vinegar blend. The closest thing would probably be white wine vinegar. Pure apple cider vinegar would taste weird I think.
@@JuliasHairJourney yes, i also eat those but not to frequent
Would love to see your Tofu French Toast recipe! Australia has seen a huge increase in vegan options over the past year, however we have no high protein egg substitutes just yet :-)
Same here in NZ, so jelly of the American vegans!
Chickpea flour is really good for brownies, we use it for our gluten free brownies at the bakery I work at and I like them better than our non gluten free brownies
Yum sounds good. I make chickpea chocolate chip cookies and they are really good.
ooh, i can imagine that working well as it's more dense than regular flour! Would you be willing to share the recipe please or is it Topsy Kretts?
I would love to hear this brownie recipe! I find that gluten free brownies are typically awesome, but they also seem to have even *more* oil than non gluten free brownie recipes, which always makes me wonder if it's just the oil/fat that makes the brownie seem more tasty.
For the chickpea pizza: try to let the dough rest out of the fridge for a couple of hours, that should break down some of the phytates. If chickpeas should be soaked before cooking (usually 12 h), so should chickpea flour, which is nothing but finely ground raw chickpeas.
I hope this helps
I believe shes said before that she doesn't see any value in soaking beans 🤷🏽♀️
LMNOP oh, I missed it... my gut sure does 😂😂
@AM Oh interesting! How much do you add for like a cup of chickpea flour?
I'm so happy about this, I watch both people's youtube channels. Feels like a big win for I don't know what, but it feels fulfilling to see veggiekins on this channel and get positive remarks.🤗
I absolutely ADORE Remy/Veggiekins. She's so balanced, honest and transparent. I fully appreciate how approachable she is and that she's so responsive to her followers. I feel like she doesn't get the viewership that she deserves, so hopefully this video pushes more folks her way!
Sometimes i'm so happy to be brazilian because we usually eat beans EVERYDAY. It's awesome, so we don't have much problems with gas, spacially if you're from Rio de Janeiro, since we eat black beans with rice pretty much everyday.
When you said “disappeared like just mayo” I literally felt it in my soul
Peanut flour is a great protein powder alternative that doesn't have the weird aftertaste! Great if you love peanut butter, not great if you have an allergy.
I would love a video on your tofu french toast. I haven't been able to find Just egg in over two months and chickpea flour batter for french toast taste fine but my ibs hates me.
As someone w/ a serious digestion disorder, I definitely rely on protein powder as part of a non-vegan diet. I can't eat domesticated red meat (wild game is ok), beans, dairy, or any high fiber protein & my appetite is tiny when I am sick. I ❤️ that you acknowledge the various reasons people are here & the challenges some of us face to eat ethically, and also manage a strict budget, conserve energy, get nutrients & not make ourselves sick.
Pro tip: If you toast your chickpea flour on a dry pan before you use it, it gets rid of the grassy/bitter taste and makes it more nutty and palatable.
It’s the sugar in beans and the fruit together that cause the gas, along with so much more bowel movements
When I first went vegan I ate too much fruit and it wasn’t good for my digestive system. I do great with one-two pieces of fruit a day, but eating açaí bowls with tons of fruit on top wasn’t doing me any good.
I would love to see you review June from the Delish channel's recent budget eats video. She decided to put herself on extra hard mode and made herself follow a $25 budget (for two people) and eat both vegan and gluten free. I really loved her creativity, but know that the amount of time and work she put into cooking to make these budget ingredients tasty is not something a person truly struggling to buy food likely has.
I haven't watched the whole video yet but based on the small about that I saw it's all fresh veggies. Frozen or canned vegetables will save a ton of time because they come pre-chopped, and they're also often cheaper. And if you find fresh vegetables at a good price, you can dice, blanch, and freeze them yourself if you can find 20 minutes to spare. Aside from that, a food processor is a top notch shortcut to cutting things up if you already have one. Other ways to save time while cooking would be making your own sauces/spice blends ahead of time and just having them handy in the fridge or pantry (assuming you already have the necessary ingredients). For instance onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper make for a really great and inexpensive spice blend. Homemade mayonnaise is also very cheap and good to have around although it takes some practice. You can also make a big jar of pickling liquid for quick pickling onions and other veggies later, and you can make a curry paste with the exact level of spiciness you like. None of these things individually take more than 15 minutes or so, so if you have a plan for stuff to prep you can get quite a few shortcut ingredients prepped when you do find those spare 15 minutes a few times a week. Other time savers are to do stuff in big batches - cook all your dried beans for the week at once, or make a massive batch of caramelized onions to last a full month, or on a simpler level double or triple an inexpensive dinner and freeze portions for a later week when you're extra busy or just tired
hey! a chilean brand (the not co.) announced they're going to sell their plant-based milk in whole foods. as you can imagine, the vegan market in latinamerica is not that vast (we have limited access to mock meats, for example). they have made mayo, ice-cream and burgers, and actually worked with burger king to offer vegan burgers (super big deal here). so yeah, i was wondering if you would try it if you had the chance. i like it a lot, it's the reason i cut most of my dairy this year
I noticed myself that there are quite big taste differences between chickpea flour brands. I had one that was pretty bitter and one that was not. I would advice to try a few out.
Higher protein pasta made from legumes is almost 6 times! the price of whole wheat pasta where I live. Eating pasta gets expensive with that :/
Just make pasta and beans.
Legume pasta tastes like s*it anyway... 😁
I second trying several chickpea flour brands! Big taste differences and also different behaviours for e. g. pancakes.
True, like 6$ for a one little kraft dinner sized package of pasta.
@@dp2404 Hahaha, yes I'll do that xD
Or someone could just make their own chickpea flour easily, couldn't they? Soak the chickpeas (12 hrs?) then I guess blend them?
Re: chickpea flour, there's a southern French savoury pancake called socca that got very trendy recently. And also a few types of chickpea flour confections from India called besan ladoo and barfi respectively, and a Persian chickpea flour confection called nan-e nokhodchi. (The confections obviously are not healthy but they're confections, so what do you expect lol. They are all delicious. )
Also, this isn't exactly rocket science so I'm sure it's not Groundbreaking Information! for anyone, but a pancake batter (for example) made of partly chickpea flour and partly a wholemeal flour, plus a tablespoon or two of vital wheat gluten (which is itself high-protein! bonus!), is probably going to taste better than just chickpea flour, if you're making a sweet pancake. Also, I usually put a half teaspoon of cinnamon into the batter, which doesn't taste overwhelmingly of cinnamon, but since we generally associate cinnamon with sweet flavours, it can help counteract any bitterness from the chickpea flour. Actually, come to think of it, the matcha may be doing the same job as the cinnamon in Veggiekins' pancakes...
i looooove Veggiekins, she's the sweetest! i've been following her for such a long time now, never ever want to unfollow her. she's such a sweetheart! and so relaxing, her voice is so calming
Lots of my favourite Indian sweets are vegan friendly and made with chickpea flour. It’s very common in Indian desserts
i just recently watching her as well. I love the videos with her little sister and I think she's/they are a great influence for teens including myself.
I'm not vegan but I will try these recipes anyway 😊
yay! anything helps, even if its just one meal :)
I know reddit in general is a trashfire, but the veganrecipes subreddit is actually a great place with tons of tasty-looking stuff and they're friendly toward non-vegans, if you're looking for more stuff like this! Also on youtube, pick up limes is really great - it's mostly whole food recipes without ultra processed stuff, but in a way that's not demonizing other diets that do include that kind of stuff
Thank you, desperately needed one of your videos as my self care today 💜💜💜
I have to say you are the only sane vegan youtuber I still watch after quitting being vegan 5 years ago. I really like that your content is calm cool collected and rational and has plant based recipe ideas. You're probably an ideal representative of the vegan community.
Right? She influenced me to go vegan when I was in high school! I'm no longer vegan because I have a lot of health issues, and trying to find stuff on a regular omnivorous diet that doesn't destroy my intestines has been difficult enough. But I want to be vegan again in the future (or at least a pescatarian), and her content and attitude is helping me get there again. Even when I had no desire to be vegan again, I still enjoyed her content. I love Swayze lol
@@inez5110 me too. i went vegan in middle school thanks to her channel -- it gave me a lot of insight on nutrition and how to keep myself healthy eating vegan. im 18 now and still eat 98% vegan, apart from mussels and cod from time to time (in a calorie deficit sooo)
I've noticed that canned beans give me gas too, so that's why i avoid them. It is more convenient to buy canned beans, but if you have time try cooking beans yourself. I usually soak dried beans in water for minimum 12 hours and rinse them and then boil them until tender (right before they start falling apart) and rinse them once again. You can cook them a little bit less and then if you're making soup, you can cook them in the soup so they reach the desired tenderness there, just make sure to rinse after the first boiling, then you can continue cooking them for the second time without rinsing. It's a little bit time consuming, but you can cook big batches and freeze them. This is the method that I follow in order not to have gasses from beans.
Another tip if you only have access to canned beans (chickpeas) it's to rince them and remove the skin. You should be fine if you do that :)
Omg how funny! As soon as I saw her mash up the avocado is with the white beans… I thought the exact same thing, I can’t believe I didn’t think of that before 😂
I sneak beans into everything. I've been known to crush a can of refried beans for dinner before... Needless to say my farts are indeed toxic, but at least my taste buds are happy 🙃
Thank you for sharing her channel!
Very inspiring! Also I once worked at a farmers market booth where we made crepes of just chickpea flour from an Indian store, filled with choice of vegan Nutella or nice fruit jams. Very tasty and popular!
Cut up tomatoes and cucumbers into pieces, sprinkle some salt on top and you have an amazing, fresh and very quick snack. I grew up monching that and it made me very happy.
You have turned me to the Barilla Protein pasta and I was so pleasantly surprised. I LOVE it so thank you!!
wall idea: cats... just put some pictures of cats there, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love that
LOVE Beanfield brand chips! Their salt and vinegar flavor is the only vegan variety I've found, and is one of my favorites!
I make savory pancakes with chickpea flour, add some shredded carrots and some kind of aioli or even just hummus on top, yum!
Ok yes thank you for talking about how most vegan "protein bars" are low in protein but high in calories. I am personally not vegan but I have dietary restrictions with dairy, so the protein bar selection is slim...
No cow tastes okay at best and is dry but 190-210 calories for 20-21G. Best I found so far as far as the calorie and protein ratio. If you know a better one let a girl know please? Lol
Your t-shirt logo! Put that on the wall, i freaking lovem them!
Yes, please do the tofu french toast recipe!!
I'm with you re healthy chips. What's the point. And also with you re various frozen fruit ice creaminess. My current fave is frozen mango with Ceylon cinnamon (NOT the other cinnamon!!!), flax seed oil, my favourite chocolate protein powder, and soy milk - YUM! But healthy chips, I can live without. Thanks for another excellent video! I will be checking that channel for recipes!
i remember abbey sharp doing something similar to the bean-avocado thing and also mixing mashed beans into oats. never tried it because im intolerant but you might wanna try it!
Using chickpea flour is a tough thing in a lot of recipes because chickpeas are hard as a rock I put through an incredible grinder that would be grinding rocks so it's very raw. Mixing water and putting it in a frying pan isn't cooking it all the way through. So the best thing to do if you can is to add boiling water to just the chickpea flour the night before and then continue with the rest of the ingredients the next day. It helps a lot! Depending on the recipe of even boiled it with water and a pan until it's not hard as a rock but definitely cooked and thickened then out of the soy milk baking powder whatever other ingredients are going to make it into what it is including flatbread made with sweet potatoes or butternut squash. It's always good to get it as cooked as possible before you cook it.
have you ever checked out sweet potato soul's channel? I think she's another really good example of healthy, balanced veganism
Trader Joe's sells their own tempeh!! And Walmart sells the Tofurkey brand tempeh, kind of breakfast seasoned (I eat it in anything though)
On protein pasta: if you live somewhere with Aldi here in the states, they regularly sell bean and soy based pastas and prices much better than the average grocery store. I like their red lentil rotini a lot and recently as a special they even had green lentil no-boil lasagna sheets! They also often have chickpea penne and black soy, edamame, and regular soy spaghetti. I’ve not tried the soy spaghetti but the chickpea penne is good.
7:18 I used to try change some recipes in the past to make things healthier (less sugar in sweets, no frying in general), but at the end of the day instead of making things complicated i can just eat less of it and less frequently, self indulgence with junk has its value.
Please do a video of the tofu replacement for just egg. Love your videos!💞
I live in a smaller community in Canada and we have to go to the Chinese grocery to get tempeh, so definitely not a name brand you’d be able to see, and 1.5 from where we live so it’s more of a treat thing. I love the stuff though!
Winco has nutritional yeast in bulk too. I love it. ☺️
Love this idea for the avocado toast
chickpeas mashed into avocado toast is delicious!! and very filling
Probiotic Pearls help with gastrointestinal issues, just take before or with your meal if you know or suspect some of the ingredients might give you trouble. Not sure if that specific type is vegan friendly but there’s lots of options out there to look at.
I was the same! Hated nooch as a kid... to the point where we didn’t buy it anymore
Now I love it!
I love the chip alternatives. I love chips. I like the Siete chips. So good!
When I first started trying veganism I kept coming across channels with crazy diets (raw etc) who were selling their way of eating as the "actual" vegan.....this seemed strange to me so I was so relieved when I found your channel and found that lots of vegans just eat "normally"! Bring on the junk food!!!
The brand 'Late July' makes some vegan chips that taste like Ranch Doritos! I couldn't believe it. I think it was the jalapeno flavor.
Speaking of finding tempeh, you can sometimes find bulk Soy Boy brand blocks at natural food stores. It's typically much cheaper and bigger (2.5 lbs) than the small lightlife packs (8oz)
B12 in nutrional yeast is not absorbed by the human body, anyway, so you need to take the one which can be used by the human body.
When I worked at a vegan restaurant we made brownies with chickpea flour. Everyone loved them, never had any complaints but there was a ton of sugar and melted chocolate in the recipe.
The beanfield cheddar sour cream taste just like the real thing to me, I went through a month where I ate them everyday.
I agree with your stance on chips
yess please do a video on the French toast 😍
I was the same as you with Nutritional Yeast! My 19 month old loves it too
Yes! Please do a recipe video for the French toast 😄
Review Amanda Ducks :) She eats a balanced vegan diet and I love her attitude towards food
A gas tip: try Beano or any other digestive enzyme prior to gas-inducing meals. I find it makes a huge difference for me.
I think you should get a tapestry of a cow or something else cute. Maybe a landscape. Also I want the french toast recipe too
Little chickpea in Portland makes amazing chickpea everything. Lots of vegan options.
Omg at least try to make baked goods with chickpea flour! I know you have particular tastes and I’m not like that so maybe I’m wrong, but I feel like you’d like it. Especially cookies (particularly peanut butter cookies, but any cookie seems to do well with the chickpea flour).
And I was saying omg out of excitement not like, weird.
Chickpea flour chocolate chips amazinggggg!!!
Here's the thing with bean powders [dry beans ground into a fine powder], not only do you still need to cook it ALL THE WAY, but even my pressure cooked whole beans can be unkind if you are sensitive to the enzymes. I soak mine with 1tsp of baking soda for every 2 cups of dry beans and then pressure cook them in the same liquid for 30 minutes. This change in the PH level of the soaking liquid [I use broth, but it could be water] eliminated all digestive issues for me...and I'm sensitive to canned beans, so it works. Doing this method with bean powders is - well - not convenient. I cook the whole chickpeas with my method and freeze the extra to blend up, mash up, etc.
Try dry roasting chickpea flour on a pan for a couple of minutes to break it down a little and make the raw bitter taste go away. Keep tossing the flour in the pan though so you don’t burn it
Please do a video on the tofu french toast as a uk person I was sad it had just egg in the original video you did, so this has peeked my interest haha 😆
not related to the video, but I like your shirt. the neckline is cool. Also, Beanitos is a great chip brand!
I frequently use cannellini beans in puree soups (think butternut squash or cauliflower soup) to add some protein, and my family is none the wiser. My husband hates white beans, but has no idea they're in there!
One of the only salads I eat is a huge taco salad. Probably not the healthiest but it does have a TON of greens and veggies in it, it just also has CHIPS.
Yaaaaas!!! Please do a french toast video 💕
You should check out Mina Rome if you hadn’t already, I think she is also a good example of a relaxed vegan diet
Yay, love Veggiekins! Vegan and she shares my matcha obsession 🍵🥰
I think it can help to roast the chickpea flour on the stove or in the oven before using it in baking
To the chickpea flour I always add oat flour too and spices, the taste is much better
I don't know the price difference in the US between regular and protein pasta but here in germany it's pretty noticeable so what I like to do is do 1/3 to 1/2 protein pasta and 1/2 to 2/3 whole wheat pasta to get some protein but not bust my budget. I also prefer to have some source of whole grain in every meal rather than just relying on protein rich foods for satiation and carbs so it works out well
I feel you on the tempeh 🤢 I feel like it smells like something preserved in formeldehyde. The first time I opened some, I had serious flashbacks to high school biology dissections 😫
It's funny, here in Germany the Barilla protein pasta is quite expensive. But we have some good discounter lentil pasta here.
barilla is probably the worst italian brand of pasta
You can make homemade tempeh for pennies if you don't like the one brand you have the access to. If you don't have tempeh starter locally, you should be able to get it online, since you're lucky enough to live in the US where it's available :)
I love the blue pumpkin. He can stay. He’s pretty thanksgivingy or something right?
A nice Thanksgiving themed background? That could be fun.
My favorite source of protein is probably soy curls, but I never see anyone mention it. It's like tofu, but less processed, a better texture, and more fiber.
Background: autumn forest theme! Squirrels, hedgehogs etc. Leaves. Mushrooms.
I use some soy flour in pancakes (70%rye flour 30%soy flour)
...and whole wheat pasta with some beans/lentils or soy/tofu in the sauce.
@MdoubleHB There is no scientific evidence to support this claim.
The human digestive tract differs from all other species because we started incorporating cooked foods in our diet and in some cases cooking improves the absorption of certain nutrients.
But I've seen you trolling in vegan channels before so I guess a real discussion would be pointless...
FYI I just tried the nutritional yeast on popcorn for my son...and he ate all of it! Never would of thought of it...he has arthritis and we have a beef allergy in the house. So he usually lacks iron and needs extra folic acid....thank you!!!!
That's awesome!
@MdoubleHB were all trying our best. Your negative comments are NOT necessary...and please don't comment on my son
yes please make the tofu french toast recipe
I miss french toast :(
I'm so happy, that beans and legumes in general are one of the few things that don't interfere with my digestion. I can eat two cans of beans and veggies and will have no issues whatsoever. (Almost "everything" else will make me struggle tho xD)
Go straight into Christmas!!!!! 👏🏼
The no cow bars are my favorite. 180 calories and 20 grams of protein
That's what I eat. I wouldn't say they're delicious, but they're tasty enough. I like the cookies n cream and pumpkin pie flavors.
If staying with a season theme, fall leaves 🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁
Yes to the tofu French toast recipe!! While you’re at it... maybe the kale seitan recipe too 😜
Would love a recepie Video! Love from germany
For your background you should paint a square orange which is pretty on brand for unnatural vegan! Maybe even a round cucumber, pretzel shaped carrot, triangular celery, rectangular grapes, and ummm I’m running out of shapes and produce. 😆 you get the idea though lol
French Toast Recipe
Please :))
Yes please, share the tofu french toast recipe please ^^
