I think the range is where ALL EVs need to focus. The number one thing (by a HUGE margin) that is keeping people from converting their ICE vehicles (other than price) is range (anxiety). 364 (estimated range) is just okay. And convert that to Canadian (winters) and you can easily knock off 100 km. Now we are talking 250. That is NOT nearly good enough for an 80K car (CDN). JMHO.
I absolutely love these cars, the only worry I have is that I am so used to reverse parking and the EV port is at the front. Only time I park front first is in a busy car park and I'm due for the weekly or monthly shopping, which might actually be the only times I would charge the EV if there were any charging stations available at that time.
That glacier white interior looks almost like the launch special trim from the g70 years back. They had a green color I think it was called back forest green with white interior
Probably they can only fit in 77 battery pack in. Consider that, its range is not that bad. But it's 20K more expensive than a Model Y. I wonder how many they can sell this thing.
Really nice vehicle, BUT 383 kilometres of range to dead, on a sunny summer day? What's it going to be like in Canada, where it is below freezing for 5 months out of the year? With great price, features, fit, finish and warranty though, it is pretty tempting.
i heard that someone in BC ordered car thru Kia last year and after they got the pricing his invoice was $8k over MSRP with dealer markups and extra add ons! This was on Global news today.
Dealers set price, not manufacturers. That's why it's called MSRP... Manufacturers SUGGESTED Retail Price. It's a suggestion, not a rule. Most dealers will honor MSRP, but not all... if someone is marking up prices over MSRP 100% of the time that's going to be a specific dealership, not the manufacturer. I would suggest not doing business with any dealership charging over MSRP.
After listening to Zack’s comment about range I’d like to see him take any EV on a Road trip and see how easy it would be to charge an EV in real world driving, NOT just in town where a vehicle can be driven at home. Yes an EV for a town car would not need more then 400 Km of range but long distances can be a challenge?? I have read horror stories of chargers not working and the Infrastructure is just not there yet, is it ???
Well done, it's difficult to get a straight answer on when this is available in the States. We live in Washington and are on 3 "waiting lists". Going to see a buddy who owns the Hyundai dealership to see if we can get anywhere. We are willing to spend the $75k for the E GV70 here in Washington, but cannot seem to get anyone to take our money lol

wish there was a dealer closer to me....even though this an EV it will still need servicing (not as often...) and I don't fathom driving a couple of hrs to my nearest dealer....my Hyundai dealer needs to join the list of dealers to bring on Genesis to their property......Guess I'll keep wishing for that one...🤷🏻♂
Don't understand why so many manufacturers, including Genesis don't tuck that rear wiper under the top hangover on top of the window. No wireless CarPlay is odd, because some Kia models does offer wireless CarPlay and Android.
It's very simple to explain actually. Kia/Hyundai make Genesis, so yes, things carry over. Lots of Kia's and lots of Hyundai's have wireless AA/Carplay, and lots do not. The reason is simple... does the vehicle offer built-in Navigation from Hyundai/Kia or does it not? If it lacks built-in navigation it has wireless AA/Carplay. If it has built-in navigation it has wired AA/Carplay. Why is that? The reason is Hyundai/Kia wants you to use their built-in navigation over Google/Apple, and they have some sort of legal/intellectual squabble with Google over the issue and it results in no wireless AA if Hyundai has built-in navigation. The hardware is there, but there's some legal squabble going on that prevents it from being activated.
@@wolfshanze5980 You got it. Don’t understand why so many car reviewers don’t know this. Btw, I find the Hyundai in-house navigation to be superior over Google or other navigation systems.
I was interested until I saw the price. At $84k CAD this is a huge ask even if it only comes fully loaded, this is WAY above Model Y LR AWD, Q4 e-tron and RZ450e and even the Lyriq 600E4 as listed.
Excellent review as usual but a maximum 236 mile range with a more realistic 190 mile range (80% of 236) is silliness for typical use in middle America. We're going to drive our ICE vehicle at least 700 miles to visit relatives during an upcoming 4-day weekend. Neither of the relatives we're going to visit has EV charging nor does the upscale hotel where we're going to stay for one or more likely two nights. We'll gas up our ICE vehicle only once during the 700 miles (taking only about 5 minutes to do so) since it has a reliable range of over 500 miles on a full tank of gas. I suppose we could seek out charging stations off our route although they're rare where we're going but who wants to sit at a charger for an hour or more at a time at least three times during a 700 mile 4-day trip? I wouldn't mind having an EV. I've sat down with Tesla people twice trying to make one of theirs work for us to no avail. . Even charging at home is impractical since it would cost over $10,000 (the minimum estimate) to get just level 2 charging in the garage of our 40+ year old house. EV's like this Genesis continue to be only for local use or for hobbyists who are willing to organize their lives around them..
Well you got some basic facts wrong. Tesla usually only takes half an hour to charge at a supercharger, and you got plenty of stuff to do (watching a movie, going to a restaurant, relaxing a bit). In fact, my wife and son really enjoy the half hour charging time and they look forward to it. As to home charging, I don't know where your number is coming from, but I would say $1,000+ is enough to install a level 2 plug. Even if your number is correct, if your daily driving range is not too many (50km or so), as most people do, you can get away with 110v charging and that's what we have been doing for more than 1 year now. I know it's always hard to accept a new concept but sometimes it is not as hard as it seems if you are willing to give it a try.
@@yfbgca9492 I have no difficulty in accepting a "new concept". I've thought this through and have "run the numbers". Our 40+ year old house simply isn't compatible with getting level 2, let alone level 3, charging to the garage without upgrading the house's electrical service and doing significant demolition and reconstruction. I have also investigated installing a Tesla Powerwall but that is not practical either. 30 minutes at a Tesla Supercharger is meaningless when there no Superchargers or other EV charging along the rural routes we drive. There's not a single charging station in my home town of 13,000 people that we visit. I suspect that you live in a high density area where public charging is common.
@@H2SO4H20 Well, you cannot blame Tesla for catering to the part of the country (or world) where the population is denser and charging can be installed easier. There is no problem not driving an EV when your situation doesn't suit it. My guess is that when people look to retrofit their houses (maybe solar in the future), EV charging at home makes more sense. Meanwhile gas prices keep increasing and the cost of maintaining ICE cars getting more expensive, eventually the scale will tip for the majority of individuals.
@@H2SO4H20 yes and no. We do have a supercharger downtown but I only used it once or twice. As I said we do not drive more than 50 kilometres daily so the “level 1” charging (110v) at home is more than enough for our need. We don’t even need to charge every night. And it’s totally fine for our occasional short return trip of 200+ km. When we are on longer trips we just use the supercharger and it’s totally fine too. If you drive less than 50 km (30 miles) daily you can totally get away with charging on your current sockets. If you do drive more than that daily then it might be an issue.
Very nice but I think they need to increase their efficiency 77 kilowatt battery and only 383km for the size. Hopefully with the ever-increasing battery technology and lower cost ,We we'll see 500km at more affordable price.
EV's are neat BUT they're not ready for primetime! EV range is adversely affected by very cold temperatures where the vehicle may lose as much as 40% of range, The cost of charging varies greatly. Where I am the rate is $12 cents per KWH so at home the vehicle at 77.4 kwh battery costs about $10.00 to charge. But on the road chargers can be as much as $.45 cents per KWH meaning you'll pay some where around $34.00 US to charge instead of $10.00 at home.(Then there's the issue of chargers availability along the road. EV's right now are ok for around town travel but are not Road trip cars, in fact there are many places you couldn't travel because there are zero chargers. In time that likely will change but right now EV's are ok second cars. The Chevy Bolt was seemingly the best buy for an EV at 250 mile range and $30,000.00 price tag (as a second about town car) But LG had supplied defective batteries to GM and the issues began. EV's really need a better power source unaffected by extreme cold and heat (at least to the level that ICE vehicles have). EV's range needs to be seriously greater too, and EV charge times need to be similar to ICE refuel time of minutes instead of hours.
Looks like a great vehicle. I just bought a 23 GV70 2.5T Advance (US). Love it. One gripe- the design is so captivating yet in good old NJ, I have to slap a nice plate right in the lower center of the grill. When are the mfg going to put some pressure on govt to drop all these requirements? I know- first world problems. Great review!
I think Genesis has made a big mistake by eliminating heated steering wheel and Lexicon Sound sytem from the "Advanced" package, forcing you to pay the extra $6,800, or go with another manufacturer, if you want or need these features. I would have also like the option to get HUD and heated rear seats without having to go with a "Prestige" package.
To be fair, Genesis is a luxury brand, so you get luxury prices... you can get a pure EV under 35K if you go with a cheaper manufacturer like Chevy (the Bolt).
@@wolfshanze5980 Understood but Zack is constantly lamenting that EVs are settling into a luxury vehicle item, and he's right. And even vs the Audi/Volvo competition this Genesis is a price premium
@@willoverkill8461 EVs STARTED in Luxury and have been spreading out to other price points, including sub-35K vehicles... or are you saying the Chevy Bolt doesn't exist? Just because an EV is made at a 70K price point, doesn't mean that ALL EVs are at a 70K or higher price point. Chevy Bolt, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Toyota BZ4X, are all much, Much, MUCH cheaper than a Genesis 70. You can LITERALLY go out today and buy a full EV like a Chevy Bolt at of 25K MSRP or a Nissan Leaf at 28K MSRP. Are you seriously going to sit here and say "well Zack said all EVs are too expensive Luxury items, so i'm just going to pretend EVs under 30K don't exist and parrot what I heard on the internet". Sorry, EVs are being made at multiple price points, including under 30K... and will only continue to spread to all price points... despite what you and Zack say.
@@wolfshanze5980 The Bolt is much cheaper in America for some reason, they didn't drop the price here, it starts at $41k here in Canada; the Nissan Leaf is also $41k, used to be $38k last year. No other EV starts below $45k now that I know of, the Ioniq5/EV6 were $44k last year but now $51k, the Tesla3 was $44k but now $55k, the VW ID4 has remained most price stable at $46k. When I looked at an EV this time last year, it was an easy to decision to get a $34k Toyota Camry hybrid instead, bigger vehicle and had the leather, sunroof, safety tech etc, saved a couple thousand over the cheapest EVs on the market despite rebates.
@Will Overkill I simply listed US MSRP for the Bolt and Leaf... both are under 30K and that's BEFORE you take off around 7K tax credit... EVs are simply not just for super rich people. They are continuing to put out EVs across the price bracket, the more time passes, the more it goes out to all price ranges, it's certainly NOT just going the expensive luxury route. You can certainly pay 70K for an EV if you want... but you can also (after a incentive deduction) get an EV for under 25K, and there's more in the middle between 25K and 70K... so my point stands... you can get an EV at nearly any price bracket.
One thing I don't understand is how come Tesla, rivian and lucid for example are able to have good size usable frunks and electric Kia /Hyundais have miniscule frunks.
Wow, not available in IL! Oh well.... looks nice though! I do not like the charge port in the front though.... If you have a tight garage I feel it will get in the way and you can never back in to any charger.
If we generate electricity from fossil fuels and use the same to charge an EV, it won’t make much difference compared to the ICE car emissions. And always great review!
😂 Poor Zack! Don’t eat anything before you get in the vehicle. 😂 Beautiful vehicle! I just wish this touchscreen build into dashboard. We all dream of better range. Great video Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻☕️☕️
I drive a 3.5 GV70 and get 400 kms / 250 miles range average. Not much better than the electrified version of 380 kms / 236 miles. Then add $17000 CAD to have the same vehicle without gas and a 'not ready for prime time' network of chargers? It's a great vehicle but I don't see the value in going electric yet :(
I bought a GV 70 Electrified and this vehicle had a malfunction after 3 days of ownership. The malfunction was due to a rear inverter failing and the rear motor failing, where-as the mechanic discovered burnt residue within the motor. After replacing said parts, they decided to test drive the vehicle for 131 miles, without notifying me or requesting authorization. This increased my odometer by 36%. Every step of the way was a complete hassle. The Genesis of America service advisor (Khoi) claims he has no idea about the requirements to fix this vehicle and claims he did not know about the road test, yet when calling the service advisor, she claims that she told him before Khoi called me. I believe this company is trying to hide this issue on the first iteration of this car because it will be costly to initiate a recall which will skew their earnings on this specific vehicle. I would recommend that no one buys their electric vehicles as their Hyundai Ioniq 5 is equally as terrible as a vehicle. The Ioniq 5 driving assistant tool over powers the steering wheel while in use. This same vehicle also has the collision assistance that would notify the driver while the vehicle is completely stopped at a light and another car moves in an adjacent lane.
US vs Canada/Korea made... probably wouldnt be any difference. I believe this is just assembly, most car manufacturers do this all over the world. Quality comes from engineering, component quality, engine & transmission reliability (which often are also outsourced)

JMHO.
I won't spend that much $ for 300 km range...tesla is the only choice for now when talking about the range in the winter😂lol
Can you explain how the bigger wheel to affect the ev range? Thanks 🙏
More rolling resistance, basically.
Amen!!
As an ev owner, the range is very important for me in the winter tesla moldel y much better compared to this.
How about reusable coffee mugs for questions coffee and cars? You could even brand them Motormouth and sell them to fans?
I'm trading in my 2022 GV70 3.5T Sport Plus for this version. Should arrive in July. Can't wait!
What's under the hood? Is there a frunk?
Do you think Genesis will put the PHEV Model on the market by 2024. My sister in law and I both would love to Purchase the GV70 ev. But only as PHEV.
Wired apple carplay?
what about regular sedan G70 ? Will that also get an electric model ?
Biggest question : how does it compare to the Cadillac Lyriq? Please make a comparison video (Canada)
Hopefully battery tech will continue to improve so that we can get some usable range and bring down the weight. There’s no stopping this train.
Well done, it's difficult to get a straight answer on when this is available in the States. We live in Washington and are on 3 "waiting lists". Going to see a buddy who owns the Hyundai dealership to see if we can get anywhere. We are willing to spend the $75k for the E GV70 here in Washington, but cannot seem to get anyone to take our money lol
this is not 65k because the way they did the configuration, you have to add the 7K PRESTIGE package unless you want to feel like you are driving a hyundai. Total price is 73k, this is not worthed. for 2k more you can get an Audi etron q8 with air suspension and 285 miles range.
The mat painted color and gorgeous interior styling are absolutely perfect. Why do we buy tesla model Y rather than this one?
Range is good - as long as you don’t have real Canadian winters. Losing 40-50% is what kills you.
wish there was a dealer closer to me....even though this an EV it will still need servicing (not as often...) and I don't fathom driving a couple of hrs to my nearest dealer....my Hyundai dealer needs to join the list of dealers to bring on Genesis to their property......Guess I'll keep wishing for that one...🤷🏻♂
So what is the actual real-world range? What is a real world range on 80% charge?
Does the GV70 remember the i-pedal setting? Or do you have to set it every time you start the car.
if you use the i-pedal, it will default to level 3 when you start the car the next time, so you have to set it when you start the car.
Is it eligible for the 7500 USD federal tax credit such as Tesla Model Y?
As we stated in the video it does.
It seems that there are very limited color selections, both exterior and interior on Genesis website for this EV GV 70
I’d be curious to know what maintenance they are actually doing during those 5 years
My guess would be Inspections and brake fluid
You all make me feel like I need to have things immediately!
5:17 all-red brake/indicator lamps like it's 1920 are a fail. Can't Genesis make proper taillights?
I want a gv80 !🎉🎉🎉
Genesis released an update for wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay!
Almost everything you listed is a cost option here in the UK.
I know, because my wife wants all of them
Excellent review as usual but a maximum 236 mile range with a more realistic 190 mile range (80% of 236) is silliness for typical use in middle America.
Looks really good, but the range it's lacking.
Does it have a Frunk?
Absolutely glorious inside and out BUT like flossy Carter would say: TGDH! ( Too god damn high! )
Only if they made a hybrid of gv70
Very nice but I think they need to increase their efficiency 77 kilowatt battery and only 383km for the size. Hopefully with the ever-increasing battery technology and lower cost ,We we'll see 500km at more affordable price.
In USA we always get less features in the car market
Also all those electric cars in few years what’s gonna happen to used batteries
Genesis GV70
is Way Better than Tesla
Great review (as always), of yet another outrageously priced electric vehicle!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
@@andreaspencer9813 You are an very welcome!! ☕️☕️
Let's just see how expensive the upcoming Macan EV will be?
I drive a 3.5 GV70 and get 400 kms / 250 miles range average. Not much better than the electrified version of 380 kms / 236 miles. Then add $17000 CAD to have the same vehicle without gas and a 'not ready for prime time' network of chargers? It's a great vehicle but I don't see the value in going electric yet :(
Feels more premium market
As a car enthusiasm. Until these manufacturers can make375 miles of range the norm.....I will choose an ice vehicle over an EV any day😊
No spare, no wireless Apple CarPlay (seriously?!), and that range? I was excited about this car and it looks like a lot of fun, but those put me out.
Charging an electric vehicle is akin to sitting in your backyard, watching the grass grow.
US vs Canada/Korea made... probably wouldnt be any difference. I believe this is just assembly, most car manufacturers do this all over the world. Quality comes from engineering, component quality, engine & transmission reliability (which often are also outsourced)
