I made up something I called the “ only 15” technique for cleaning my kitchen. My kitchen usually looks like a war zone after I cook and just one glance is enough to exhaust and overwhelming, so I usually have a kitchen that’s a disaster! And so I decided I would only wash or dry 15 items. If there’s one more fork remaining in the sink, I’ll leave it there! I count the dishes as I go, which helps keep my mind from wandering into spiraling thoughts. And, since I am very visually stimulated, next time I pass by the kitchen, I’ll see the dishes and again only do 15. Maybe I’ll dry 15, or wash 15 or some combination. Strange but true now instead of having a perfect kitchen or a war zone I have a kitchen that always looks pretty good. I’ve never experienced that in my life and I’m kind of digging it!
I use the numbers 3, 7 & 10 for this because they’re my favourite. I’m moving into a new house and I’m really sore today so in between resting I’m unpacking and setting things up by the numbers. Saying this has inspired me to sort 10 more things, thank you!
For me personally, it depends on what I need to do in the kitchen since I'm still living with my mom. I'm definitely very independent though. My mom's usually really good about doing her own dishes and I try to point this out here and there since we should be responsible for our own dishes. But she says she doesn't care abt. doing my dishes. The dishes were stacked to the top of the sink this morning and that was overwhelming for me to see tbh, but I'm like: "If I have to cook, I have to clean that first in order to make space," rather than pile an extra dish in the sink adding more to the clutter that my mind/brain is currently seeing. Sometimes I will leave about 1 or 2 other dishes in the sink, but as long as there's enough room to fit my pan after cooking, I'm good. Yes, sometimes I will leave dishes in the sink for abt. 2-3 days straight and when I tell my mom, "I'll get to it,"-it literally means that and we will get to that on our own terms. But turns out when I do that, it bugs her b/c she basically doesn't always let me clean my own dishes. Honestly, I get it where she does work, but it's like: "If you have time to cook, you have time to clean."-this is also why it's so much better to meal prep if/when you have the energy to do things like that. Ex: 1 day, Grocery shop (even if it's small), the next day meal prep, and by the 3rd day, you can cook what you already prepped. Prepping not only makes things easier, but it makes cooking so much faster rather than trying to do it all in 1 day. Given, I do get frozen meals for quickness and when I have my lazy and/or low energy days.
1. Plan your morning routine according to your energy 2. Caffeine affects ADHDers differently, manage it accordingly 3. Wear sensory friendly, athletic clothing to add mental motivation 4. Start your day with a productive chore to create momentum 5. This productivity can help with brain fog: then helping with choosing food 6. Create a menu of safe foods to reduce decision fatigue 7. Make your workspace comfortable: lighting, scents, visuals 8. Utilize time in the car to check in with how you are feeling 9. Body double with someone to get more work done 10. Create time everyday for some intentional movement 11. Invest in learning about yourself and finding tools/strategies 12.Make the intentional movement accessible with accommodations: headphones, clothing 13. When considering your option, consider future you and what sets you up as well 14. Create a solitude practice to practise unmasking 15. Clean as you cook to create another large task
Thank you! I'm currently in a tough spot because I'm stuck in an EXTREMELY unsuitable job for ADHDers. Frequent interruptions, noise and music blaring non-stop. It's a nightmare. Your video gave me hope that someway, somehow it will be possible to find a better path. The options are out there, it just takes time for some people to find the right one for them. Seeing fellow ADHDers do well puts things into perspective. It stops the black-and-white thinking of "Oh, I'll never find anything, everything is pointless". Thank you for being you.
Hi Hayley, I just found your videos after being diagnosed with ADHD at 22. I just wanted to say your channel is the first channel that feels like talking to a friend, and the content you are creating has helped me and my mindset more than anything I've done in the past ten years of my life. Thank you, I hope to keep following along on this journey and look forward to your next posts.
Loved the video and just some advice for how much food you keep in the house. Whether it's whether or any other thing, people should always have. At least 3 weeks of food in their house. Definitely keep rice canned food water things like that. So in case of an emergency, you have food to share and also food for yourself. It is very common for people only to keep a week to 3 days of food. And I do understand that money is an issue. But this is something that people can do slowly when they order food if they have extra money at the time. Order 2 of things whether you order 3 cans of corn or beans for the week if you can add an extra can and just slowly build that stock and have a place to store it.
I’m currently in a really low state. And I think I might have add but idk. I’m feel really sad and alone with myself struggling to life more efficiently. But watching these videos I hope I can get to where you are soon.
I hope I can do the Dec. unmasking program. The doom scrolling one has provided a lot of info, even though I'm still struggling a lot. Wish I knew about it earlier! Lol you reminded me I need to eat and should walk the dog. Can't wait for the TEDTalk.
Comfy outfits are 100% needed. Do I want to be "stylish" and fashionable, sure. Do I live in leggings, sports bras and the small mountain of t shirts and sweatshirts I have accumulated through a lifetime of playing sports, absolutely. I should go to a coffee shop to work today, I've been sitting here watching UA-cam. My thesis defense is tomorrow... Oops.
Thank you so much for this! I'm still in a white-collar, dead-end job (like the job itself is Fine and my co-workers are nice, but it's not earning me much money, it's not what I want to do, and there's no way to progress), but I want to have this kind of life. I've been diagnosed with ASD for a long time and I've just gotten my ADHD diagnosis last week (still waiting on the report!), and my focus once I start treatment is to finish a TEFL course that I started ages ago and then do more training, so I can work as an online TEFL teacher and a copy-editor/proofreader? That feels way more up my street than what I'm doing now! One of the things that was worrying me about that was the idea of my days not being structured enough, and me just not getting anything done. Like I can only just about focus enough to do the job I'm doing NOW while working from home, let alone being my own boss! But maybe I will be more productive if I AM my own boss? Who knows?? Either way, this has been a lot of comfort to me, seeing that it CAN be done, even if it's difficult or not perfect.
Solid video! My main takeaway from this is that it’s okay to turn off your brain. I’ve been letting myself feel guilty for wanting to do that at times so that was helpful to dig up. Thanks a bunch!
Great video and tips! Wrote a ton of them down, and I look forward to giving them a shot. Thanks for the info, and I hope your Minecraft time was a blast. ^_^
I wasn't able to fully maintain focus through the whole video, but I'm glad I didn't click off early. It's such a small thing, and in the grand scheme it doesn't really mean much at all, but whenever I find out a creator I've been watching plays Minecraft, it just makes me feel happy and more... "connection" and "kinship" aren't the right words, but it's partially like, "ah yes, they're like me in this small way," but also, "I'm glad one more person in the world is getting joy from this game that I love."
right haah i was so impressed when she left at 4:45 to get groceries and was done cooking by 5:34??!!!! like i'd be getting home at 5:34 with the groceries haha
Ok! What I’m struggling with is you did all of that (+ filming snippets) in 45 minutes!? I could never get that all done! And the quick reading up on the company TEN minutes before the meeting! That stressed me out!😁 How!? Please!
@@crystald3655 thanks. My road block is when I see something that might need doing or an option I haven’t considered (getting ready for example) and it’s I’m like a toddler who’s seen something shiny and then tangents aplenty! Been trying to focus on the pre-planning and manageable, realistic tasks when I have the focus and energy. ESPECIALLY when there are time constraints because it can lead to dangerous rushing to my next appointment etc. Always seem to veer off the beaten track. Working on it🤭
Hi! Your videos have been really enlightening, specially these couple of months for me. Amongst other sources, you have being making my head spin around some concepts that I have initially being considering appliable for my daily life and habits, and I'm considering looking for therapy the moment I can afford it (I don't want to try and get help from public health institutions, since appointments take a huge chunk of time to get settled and there are usually big gaps of time between them), and I need someone to talk to from a third perspective, other than friends and close ones to talk to about certain aspects of personality that might get missed due to uncertainty or not having enough or concrete certified knowledge about the topic and a possible lead to a diagnosis. So thank you. Thank you for offering a source of knowledge, and a safe space to being comfortable within ourselves and our non-neurotipical bodily and physical functions
Amd what to do when you get stucked at the breakfast table with the cellphone???i just feel shitty then but i still get stucked sometimes....and even when i need to be somewhere ....i just realize theb that "oh the bus leaves in 5 min amd i have not even got dressed"😮 after that usually i feel NOW THE DAY IS RUINED😢.
Leave house > 30 mins? Shower Stink? Shower Or have a daily checklist of ADLs (activities of daily living) & erase after checking them all off so the next day you have a fresh list

A mini pomodoro
That is absolutely genius 😮

You deserve better working conditions!!
You are a life saver. I’m a very late diagnosis adhd’r and these little hacks are a god send. ❤
Eggs are a safe food for me too and I’ve never met another Autistic who’s the same! I love that! ❤🍳
same here^^
YAY FOR EGG HEADS lol
AuDHD here and yes - eggs have always been a safe food for me, so versatile and quick!
Same!!💚
I'm such an AuDHD egg obsessive human. I rarely want to eat meats but eggs are always on the table

Depression does that but practices such as "behavior activation" can help. Look up videos on how to do it. Good luck!

Can you do a video breaking down executive disfunction. I’m still learning about adhd and I think it’s something I struggle with and wanna know more:)
Tons of videos already exist for it on UA-cam
so many clothing changes 😂
how do you manage those needs when you’re out of the house for a long time/traveling?
Packing extra! It’s annoying but it’s an accommodation I need :)
omg how did you get those groceries and cook that food so fast!! I would need about an hour for each of those tasks!
right haah i was so impressed when she left at 4:45 to get groceries and was done cooking by 5:34??!!!! like i'd be getting home at 5:34 with the groceries haha
Can you plz make a video on how to hit deadline on time? Most of us ADHDers struggle with it a lot.
Ok! What I’m struggling with is you did all of that (+ filming snippets) in 45 minutes!? I could never get that all done! And the quick reading up on the company TEN minutes before the meeting! That stressed me out!😁 How!? Please!
Good time management skills, ADHD management skills, medication etc.

Will the unmasking program be on again?
Not 100% sure yet! I’ve had amazing feedback on it so I may run it again in the new year 🥰
It would be great if we had a self-care for ADHD cuz showering for me gets pushed away and I stink like a mothereffer 😂😂😂
Leave house > 30 mins? Shower
Stink? Shower
Or have a daily checklist of ADLs (activities of daily living) & erase after checking them all off so the next day you have a fresh list
I’ve been avoiding work for a week … and I’m broke .
Thanks for sharing
Meanwhile:
*me watching your video while cooking* hehehe
Is that my headphones or is the audio a little static-y?
🙏🙏 The video is too long for me to keep the focus. I could use chapters. Thanks!
Rest and magnesium and youll feel chipper 4 it.❤
Not sure what this is about, but with ADHD autism etc magnism and rest won't fix a thing.
super unhelpful. felt like a vlog. no good tips or advice.
