Looking back on it, vanilla D2 wasn't the lowest Destiny got, but after the triumph that was Age of Triumph, pun not intended, it's not hard to see why people didn't like it at launch.
D2 vanilla was so bad I took back the Deluxe Edition disc to GameStop I was so disappointed and fed up with it. I actually kinda regret doing that now because the game evolved and got better in most ways over the years.
@@NovemberHotel yeah but the same could be said about D1. Yeah we all stuck with it, but D1 launch was one of the most disappointing launches in gaming. Like many I preordered D2 based on how epic RoI was, and how much I loved D1. Before D2 release I was chatting to clan mates, saying I hoped we wouldn’t just buying back what we had already purchased. Talk about prophetic thinking. Following RoI, D2 had no excuse to be as bad as it was on release. IMO the only fun part in D2Y1 was 9 man EP, but getting that coordinated was random as well. D2Y1 AoT and pre-Y2 announcements and Bungie’s “whoops we didn’t intend that, but let’s see how it goes” patch updates killed the franchise for me. I can hop into D1, but I find no fun in playing D2, so I don’t. So for me D2 killed itself.
It really felt like Destiny had lost its identity and what made it so appealing to so many people during most of Year 1, especially Curse of Osiris. Most people would say Forsaken was what saved D2 but I think it really was The Whisper mission that got many people coming back because of how much everyone was talking about it. A secret powerful exotic sniper that was discovered purely through word of mouth. That was the first time in a long time the community went absolutely crazy over an exotic weapon. It really reminded us why we love Destiny in the first place.
Watching this was weirdly nostalgic. I remember not liking D2 at launch all that much, yet it really had its own identity that I feel was lost with all the content vaulting. As good as the game is now, I really hope at least the Red War comes back in some form, since that was what D2 originally was all those years ago.
i took red war for granted and i really feel like d2 needs it as new lights have almost no substantial content to do, and witch queen also good isn’t really a good story to start off with
I remember playing the D2 PvP beta, and thinking it was something they put together just as a playable demo. Imagine my “surprise” when that was the actual D2 PvP experience.
@@vinceA3748 They say that about literally every beta that ever exists, and every single time that beta is the actual game with no changes made between test and release. That's because AAA developers always release their betas after the development is done, never during development. It only serves to build hype.
Oh the irony of it all…we’ve gone from 10sec kill centurions as November said to not even seeing a centurion because it’s already been killed by a teammate. The power creep right now is actually insane. Strikes and even the standard Nightfall can be described in 7 words….run fast, shit blows up, never die….unless you just happen to fall off a ledge or a teammate runs in front of your rocket launcher 😂 But yeah, the D2 launch was extremely underwhelming…I take it Osiris and Warmind are coming up next. I’ll withhold my comments on those 2 “expansions” until your vid drops 👍🏻
I'm just glad that D2 managed to survive this far. I did not own a console so whenever I hear of Destiny, a game that endlessly fascinated me but sadly I just can't play, I'd be filled with envy. I thought for sure when they announced Taken King and Rise of Iron it'd be ported to PC, but that never happened either. When they announced that Destiny 2 will be coming to PC, I was so happy. I quit shortly after finishing up vanilla, then came back a bit after Forsaken came out.
Something from the beta that I could never quite tell was a bug or not, was Voidwalker could have blink and glide active at the same time. Basically, if you selected blink as your jump, using your class ability in the air activated a nerfed glide that had no jump ability applied to it, (no burst, balanced or strafe properties). It was extremely nice because it meant you didn't have to go into the menu to switch to glide just to be able to make a jump that blink couldn't make, and you could activate it after your first blink to better influence the direction of your second blink in midair. To this day, I still miss this feature.
One other thing that you forgot to mention was not having a sparrow to ride on until you unlock it at the endgame. (Unless you were lucky to get it from eververse prior) Making story missions artificially long by having to walk through it.
I actually kinda liked D2 year 1, even back then. Don't get me wrong the game is an infinitely better state now, but D2 year 1 had certain charm to it that just isn't in the game anymore.
till this day I feel like destiny 2 failed to impress me or make me stay to grind. Something just feels different when it comes to destiny 1. A lot of things are now better in destiny 2 such as cross play, you don't have to go to orbit to go to other destinations, etc. I feel like destiny 1 was balanced when it comes to hard and easy, easy to obtain fairly good legendary weapons, easy to balance your gear (intellect, discipline, strength) , but hard to get exotics in general and harder to get exotics that would make you stand out. Raids .. raids were hard in destiny 1 and most of them needed a whole fireteam to finish and the rewards were "rewarding". Now in destiny 2, weapons/exotics are easily obtainable, hard to balance your gear if your luck was shit, and raids are fairly easy since we have mods and a lot of things that bungie isn't able to balance out (aka titan's hammer + the solar something that heals you). I don't know how much of what I said is true since I don't play the game a lot due to exams, I could easily be very wrong, but that is how I feel the difference between the 2 games.
Didn’t mention the controversial introduction of revive tokens into raids. We’re used to it now, partly because it’s not just 30 seconds to revive someone. Not really possible to clutch a raid after someone died back then. Also I remember it being controversial that all the encounters required everyone to have a crucial part and if one person messed up that was it, and there was a lack of “hero” moments. No special role for one or two people to step up to.
I actually kinda liked that, it felt like everyone was important and required coordination, for me it made every encounter fun no matter what role you played, and I LFG raids so I can understand why people would only want to have couple of players on "ad-clear"
@@kameradin8964 yeah it makes things a little easier when you all know the mechanics but some functions like the kings fall oryx sky sprint is one that requires skill and someone to step up and choose to do it. Also it’s more accessible for people to no have necessary roles; a lot of people may not know mechanics so to be on ad-clear would be a help.
D2 is the biggest disappointment in video games to me. I stopped playing them almost all together. D1 was 10x more addictive and more enjoyable. The gun handling was TRASH compared to D1. I felt like a drunk guardian.
It’s a shame we can’t play through everything from the red war up till now on new characters the story on legendary with emblems and insensitives would have been great, my biggest hope is we get new playable races and some new story’s and stuff to do
It’s because of d2 vanilla i gotta take points off of foresaken too. Like I can’t give foresaken points for the areas where it just brought us back to where it should’ve been in the first place with random rolls and special weapons and the like
As much as people hated it, I thoroughly enjoyed D2 year 1 pvp. Yeah the teamshooting would get really annoying but when it didn’t happen, the game was really fun imo. I miss Trials Of The Nine
I remember the hype and beta being absolutely incredible.. then on launch just hollowing out everything destiny 1 achieved, personally the Leviathan was the only redeeming factor of the launch.
I liked Leviathan as an intro Raid for newcomers. I got pissed when this chick chased off an new light I and my team were willing to Sherpa because she wanted a quick carry.
I just wanna know who made these creative decisions? Like they need to hire a group of people to give them the thumbs up or thumbs down on decisions lol. Just imagine how good it would have been if it just started out where destiny 1 ended off!
Bright engrams were easy to earn tho. I never had a problem getting everything every season until they switched to the annual pass model. If I go back and look I literally had everything up until black armory or season of the Drifter.
I loved Destiny, and I had pre-ordered the ultimate edition of Destiny 2 with both expansions. I hated it so much that I blacklisted the game up until last May. I still to this day have never felt more betrayed by a game in real life.
Thanks for reminding me how bad it really was. It killed my clan. We went from a full 100 to about 8 in a few weeks. My biggest disappointment came after beating Leviathan and realizing there was no raid specifitc perks on the armor or weapons. All static, boring shit. Osiris and the 2 tokens and a blue was the low point. It didn't start turning around until Warmind, escalation protocol and the "go fast" update.
I was actually on the fence about not having godrolls anymore. the only issue was there wasnt enough guns to replace the godroll part of random rolls. Instead of getting the roll you want you could just run it for the gun you want problem is there wasnt enough guns for that
1:37 I'm a D1 beta loot cave vet and D2 beta player, I'm confused why you said the D2 Red War Campaign was not up to the hype... I know the game as a whole failed until Forsaken but Red War is still to this day my favorite PVE Campaign in any game except Halo 3 and Fable Anniversary
I dont get why they're removing past content that YOU PAID FOR like Red War and Forsaken because the game is "too big" yet do what MCC does. Just give us the option to install what we want! I miss the farm too.
To be fair, as someone who lived through it, a veteran D1 player who watched all these streams etc live and bought D2 on launch day (and took time off work to play it), and is still an active player today, I think the Red War campaign itself is actually pretty strong in terms of Destiny campaigns. Is it perfect? No.. some plot points were a bit rushed (like Zavala and Ikora deciding to come back with hardly any effort), and the 'jokey' tone which permeated vanilla D2 was a bit much (which they've since dialed back on, thankfully), but the missions themselves, the setpieces and destinations etc, were all pretty darn good. I rememeber enjoying the hell out of the game for the first week or two. It was really /after/ that that the cracks began to show. The lack of any meaningful endgame or chase loot being the biggest problem, along with a lot of gameplay decisions that just weren't good (double primary guns, 4v4 crucible, no random rolls, etc). I think if you put the Red War campaign back in the game today, unchanged, but with today's subclasses and weapon systems, it'd still be plenty fun and actually more fun than some more recent story campaigns (Shadowkeep or Beyond Light, for example).
(To clarify my final statement there, Shadowkeep and Beyond Light both have great campaigns in terms of /plot/, but the mission designs themselves leave a lot to be desired. Thankfully Witch Queen proved Bungie can still make a great campaign)
@UCa1YJ-MrNyOcHU7dxNDg6aw I agree for the most part, although I do like a lot of the vanilla D2 strikes to this day. Don't get me wrong the Taken King strikes were great too, but strikes like Savathun's Song, Inverted Spire, and Arms Dealer are still among my favorites (even if they are stupid-easy (or removed) nowadays). Fuck Exodus Crash though.
Okay so I played the d1 beta and wasn't really into it too much but decided to get back into it when I heard news of d2. By that point d1 was a beautiful fully flushed out game but the community was absolutely toxic no one wanted to raid with a new player even if I didn't need teaching. What I loved about d2 at launch was the freshness everyone was on equal footing and wanted to help new players
Guided Games isn’t something I’d describe as “somewhat failed.” That abortion of a system was a failure from the get-go. Literally all it is… is matchmaking for raids. What raids (and other harder content like GMs and the like) have always needed was an in-game LFG tool: something that allows for more selection and curation of your experience. Guided Games just… threw people in there and said “figure it out.” I am honestly surprised they haven’t outright removed it.
great video, man, I remember the hype for the Beta, especially for the release, I had preordered the deluxe version with hawthornes bag. even was allowed to go to the midnight press release of D2 hosted by activision here in Holland. I still got my goodiebag from it, and still wear the bag .but man.. after the campaign, after the raid. D2 was just so stale. we played for a while but eventually we just grew bored and moved on. only coming back once a week for either a raid or a nightfall or something. as you said, once you hit the endgame and got one of each gun. there really wasnt more to play. for me, Vanilla D2's most fun was the anticipation, instead of the actual release. though, I do think the game had a sort of charm in its simplicity back then. for better or for worse.
Great video yet again! But what??? You didn’t like inverted spire? I still love that strike to this day which is odd since I definitely overplayed it during the beta.
I loved the pyramidion and arms dealer strikes but inverted spire was just a little meh. Not necessarily bad, but like I said just didn’t wow me ya know? It just felt like a strike is all.
Other than class abilities, mantling, heroic public events, and the vanilla game actually having a story, D2 was a step back from D1 at the time in every aspect.
My opinion on eververse still lasts till today Destony is NOT a "free game" it has expansions, and battle passes (that lock you out of story content btw) so it has NO RIGHT making me buy whatever cosmetics there are ON TOP of all the expansions and battle passes i already purchased! Compare it to a free game like, lets say valorant, where cosmetics are the only thing you have to spend real money on, but the difference is, that game is COMPLETELY FREE fuck eververse, she has and will always be a stain on this game
It makes you realise how much D2 was dumbed down to get more casual players playing. they totally ignored everything that made D1 so good. Nie video again, can't wait until your next instalment
The game still has not fully recovered from this horrible, horrible start. IB is at its worst at the moment. Not even close to D1 last IB. Strikes are hellishly boring. Give me dark blade or bond brothers. It's good, but due to the mess it was in, it lost its mysterious spark. I play it and hope that the next expansion is going to elevate it to the level of D1 at its best. Witch did not do it for me. Still looking for that spark. Excellent analysis of what was wrong with D2 at the start.
this game literally broke my hearth when it launched, i was really griefing, i went through all steps of grief in the span of 1 month, yet i still never abandoned it, bungie is my team since the early 2000, in the highs and in the lows, and ooh how low were those lows. But oh man those highs, those highs were the most highest of highs in this hobby of mine.
Destiny hall fallen into the chaotic world of buy product, don’t ask questions and get excited for next product. Marvel also has fallen into this trap as every villain is more “dangerous” then the previous villain but don’t get attached as the next villain will be even more deadly. Also you will always win and there are no consequences. The only thing this game did that really was permanent was Cayde and everyone loved him. This game has no consequences nor does it care to give any meaningful consequences. We just always win and here’s something you will realize. This game has never progressed in any shape or form. We are still the last city and haven’t even thought of you know taking back earth. How has this not been a focus in any shape or form. We should get Destiny 3 Black Ops and each new DLC without paying for them would be a new city to conquer with a new raid and strikes. They can still keep the insane amount of product they sell but you do not need to pay for the DLC to play. We can mix between conquering earth and new villains coming into play. We would also show how idk this city that is poorly defended would begin to forge everyone into warriors so that everyone will have a fighting chance. We would also see the city getting massively upgraded with battle ships floating above 24/7 the wall getting weapons with a massive shield that will cover the city and the traveler while keeping our light. I would also had a new subclass called juggernaut for the Titan, Wrath of souls for the warlock, and Dark stealth for the Hunters. All would play into the fighting style of that character. Sections of the game would require stealth as any characters but sections where you get to choose how you want to play. Titans will be allowed to go berserk, warlocks would show off their cunning in magic, Hunters would be allowed to roam in the shadows hunting prey. When you have a fire team of 3 all being located in different section that you converge on meeting and then using all 3 in combination together for the rest of the mission.
D2 vanilla was made me switch from a titan main to a hunter main. I was slowly leaning towards being a hunter main in Rise of Iron. But I hated how most of the titan armor looked on male titans, so I switched
The thing about destiny is it’s a very good concept and has very good potential but for whatever reason they are holding back. They have the ability to give us what we want but choose to not do that. Imagine if destiny had everything that we wanted still in the game and not taken away or sunsetted. They should just make a new destiny game and include everything from 1 and 2 as vanilla so they can make a new engine to be able to handle all of it.
I liked destiny 2 vanilla. I think multiplayer was better when it was 4v4. You could actually tell what the hell was going on and people played the objective a lot more (we also had more objective based game modes). It was also balanced and fair 90% of the time, now there’s no such thing as balance in Destiny PvP.
People always say “It’s not supposed to be balanced why are Bungie so stupid” but why can’t we have a fun AND balanced crucible? Honestly, crucible is the best it’s been in a while IMO.
In D1 I was FWC all the way. I loved the weapons and aesthetic the gear had. I also miss my favorite exotic, the Chaos Cloak. I wore that thing proudly, and I wish D2 had exotic class items. I also only started back in to D2 in 2020, so I fortunately missed much of the less enjoyable period of D2 (Although Season of the Worthy was.. not very good.)
Destiny was my favourite game when I was younger, I was addicted to Destiny 2 for like 2 weeks then I quit, I only started playing again back in lockdowns and its so weird, adult me is now addicted to the game which had teenager me addicted
in hindsight, seeing Luke talk almost all the time about 4v4 pvp this and competitive pvp that was the first redflag, the double primaries was the icing of the cake, man, the dark ages indeed,
The thing I didn't like about the planet vendors is that they're planet vendors. Their entire, in game, identity was about the planet. Also i had really hoped for a campaign where till the very end we didn't have light and the whole campaign being a darkness zone where you're struggling. I had hoped for a division esk darkness zone, even if there was no pvp, within the remnants of the tower where you fight cabal and later fallen that moves into the city. I also hate the token system. I miss the end loot page where you see IB or trials gear get awarded and what not. A currency is fine, but I don't like it being front and center. For anyone who got this far, how much better do you think d2 y1 would be received if weapon crafting was unlocked and to progress the level you had to get another one?
I ended up liking vanilla D2. The largest problem I saw at the time was everyone over-hyping the game. It led to everyone having really high expectations, and Bungie simply couldn't deliver. It only got worse with the fact some people genuinely thought a brand new game could be better than a game that's been out for 3 years with 4 DLC's that tons of people loved.
Forsaken "saved" destiny 2 because it was the closest we got to destiny 1. Last wish felt like a return to old school raiding and the weapon system finally allowed for special weapons. Things were good, and then seasons started.
I loved year 1 so much, played 1k hours first year. Pvp was so fun and balanced, hasn’t been the same since. Seeing all those OG pvp maps brings back so much feels, I need them in d2
I remember getting flak from the clan for immediately criticising the story and campaign. I knew the reveals were smoke and mirrors after the first 2 missions. Then the lack of content really struck me as a "we will make the product we sold you better later." After I quit weeks in soon they came to the same conclusion. Came back for forsaken, left again then recently joined back. Still kinda rough but its in a better spot, for a price tage of hundreds of dollars..... GF wanted to play it tho, so G2A savings really helped.
I would have liked the story a lot more if we didn't immediately get our powers back. I also feel like bungie has swung to far in the opposite direction in regards to the weapon grind. There should be a happy medium between every weapon being the same and having to geind out like 5 red border guns and then level up the dang gun.
I think i definitely liked the red war and its content better than most and im not giving bungie money till i have the content i paid for back. But that said, I feel like not only did the destiny team get lazy overall, could be the leads i dunno, but also the story became only good conceptually but implementation was bad. light vs dark cool. losing light and starting again cool. Then we got what we got :/ So much potential so much wasted
I played the beta with the Destiny friends I was gaming with at the time. The drastic subclass changes, drastic downgrade in graphics/ character designs and utterly ridiculous/ useless changes to the weapons/ armor system in just the beta told me everything I needed to know, I didn't buy D2. I still play D1 to this day because of how much money I sank into it and because I enjoy playing it. My friends who moved on to D2 only ever complain about it, BUT THEY KEEP PAYING FOR EVERYTHING THAT COMES OUT.
D1 launch veteran here, but the D2 pvp beta should have been a clear sign that year 1 was gonna be trash. I played it for a couple hours and said, nope this isn't the same game
Destiny 2 start was interesting. I loved D1 and hoped for an awsome game. The story was shallow because we got the light so early back, but everything else was decent. My biggest mistake was, that i thought i could go and play D2 for hours. I later realised it doesn't have the same length because its a new game and not an expansion. After i turned down and played it less often i realised i didn't get burned out so fast. PS: maybe i write for every episode to come my experience.
Forsaken might as well as have been Destiny 3. Then Beyond Light was Destiny 4, maybe... it's all the same game now, but the game evolved SO MUCH since then.
It absolutely baffles me that Bungie was able to drop the ball this badly. Ignoring development issues, this game felt like a Destiny mobile game. They had it really good with the end of D1 and yet somehow they fumbled it. Tokens, double primaries, Eververse, static loot, lackluster activities and so much more made this is one of the worst gaming experiences I had ever experienced in my life at that point, and I was 10 years old! Even then I knew that this game was a failure! They had some good things, but the bad parts greatly overshadowed them. At least now the game is in a much better state.
When Destiny 2 was first announced I instantly pre-ordered it for like 100$ but when I saw the first gameplay/trailers I canceled it again... it just didn't fit right with me I had some kinda bad feeling. Which turned out correct in the end 😂
Sadly it’s gone into this cycle. Release short dlc, along with a seasonal activity that gets a new part of the quest once a week and your left with nothing else to do, except for all the weekly pinnacles. Which becomes pointless by the next dlc where the light level is capped and you have to start all over. They even ruined the planets and their destinations, there’s nothing to do except for patrolling and public events. Oh and the few higher difficulty lost sectors. The least Bungie can do is add all the crucible maps back and all the strikes/ nightfalls. There’s so much empty space in the planet destinations that they could use and they don’t. It’s rather pointless making them huge
Ohhh seeing Bdobbins! Loved his videos back in the day. I could complain about destiny while listening to him…..then hop on Destiny a little later. Lol
i'm doing a series where i'm going over each year of the game. I started with each year of Destiny 1, and now we're into Destiny 2. This was of course covering Destiny 2 Hype, Beta, and Launch and next episode will be covering curse of osiris and warmind
Video suggestion. stasis being underutilized story wise. Bungie said throughput the year of beyond light, enemy races would get stasis but it didn't happen til lost and scorn and taken are the only stasis wielding enemies so WTF happened?

I actually kinda liked D2 year 1, even back then. Don't get me wrong the game is an infinitely better state now, but D2 year 1 had certain charm to it that just isn't in the game anymore.
Same I feel like it was better than now
Just started playing 3 weeks ago after my little brother begged and begged for me to play with him. I’m having a blast. Wish I started sooner!
till this day I feel like destiny 2 failed to impress me or make me stay to grind.
Until wrath comes back, imo we won't have any real hero moments. Wrath was the pinnacle of those.
@@kameradin8964 I think everybody likes it or is at least used to it now. Making the timer longer really changed things though. 30 seconds was insane
Remembering static armor reminded me why I REALLY was part of Future War Cult. Cause FWC armor was recovery armor and in year 1 recovery was meta.
You deserve much more views for your content, keep up.
Like I can’t give foresaken points for the areas where it just brought us back to where it should’ve been in the first place with random rolls and special weapons and the like
One things for sure, Bungie knows how to generate hype
Yeah, they sure know how to dupe people out of their money.
i still fully believe destiny 2 vanilla was entirely fucked over by bungie trying to make pvp better since pvp players wanted balance in pvp
As much as people hated it, I thoroughly enjoyed D2 year 1 pvp. Yeah the teamshooting would get really annoying but when it didn’t happen, the game was really fun imo. I miss Trials Of The Nine
Yep, was the best pvp has ever been IMO
It was literally just a less fun Halo
Luke smith probably did that.
Bright engrams were easy to earn tho. I never had a problem getting everything every season until they switched to the annual pass model. If I go back and look I literally had everything up until black armory or season of the Drifter.
Not me. I was very bothered that D1 wasn't moving forward. After all, it was supposed to be a 10 year game
I loved Destiny, and I had pre-ordered the ultimate edition of Destiny 2 with both expansions. I hated it so much that I blacklisted the game up until last May.
I still to this day have never felt more betrayed by a game in real life.
D2 year one story in legend Mode would be the shit 🤦🏽♂️
For me the changes they made for D2 in terms of skill trees and weapons almost killed the franchise. D2 for me was as bad as it ever got for the game
Same
#me2
Thanks for reminding me how bad it really was.
Instead of getting the roll you want you could just run it for the gun you want problem is there wasnt enough guns for that
Static rolls was way better imo
1:37 I'm a D1 beta loot cave vet and D2 beta player, I'm confused why you said the D2 Red War Campaign was not up to the hype... I know the game as a whole failed until Forsaken but Red War is still to this day my favorite PVE Campaign in any game except Halo 3 and Fable Anniversary
I'm so glad they made D2, so that D1 was left in its imperfect, but mostly enjoyable state. OG Destiny is my hangout.
Just wish they hadn’t left PvP with the sidearm meta.
I dont get why they're removing past content that YOU PAID FOR like Red War and Forsaken because the game is "too big" yet do what MCC does. Just give us the option to install what we want! I miss the farm too.
I have an old destiny 2 beta live stream I privated, and I was SO ecstatic, haven't stop playing since
appreciate your videos man your break things down really well in Destiny
Thank you!
@@NovemberHotel Im a D1 Vet so i can def appreciate how the game is now compared to what it was before
To be fair, as someone who lived through it, a veteran D1 player who watched all these streams etc live and bought D2 on launch day (and took time off work to play it), and is still an active player today, I think the Red War campaign itself is actually pretty strong in terms of Destiny campaigns.
Man going from Age of Triumph to this was such an L. I don't think I'd ever been more let down in gaming than I was with Destiny 2 at launch.
Destiny 2 launch killed my whole mood for gaming that year. Considered just quitting gaming in general after the MASSIVE disappointment of D2 vanilla.
@@NovemberHotel I'm expecting a very happy forsaken video ;)
I honestly forgot how barebones vanilla D2 was. I don't understand the thought process bungie had, like at all.
Many years later and bungie completely ignored the core Playlists and we just have copy and past season passes with a semi good dlc every year kinda
great video, man, I remember the hype for the Beta, especially for the release, I had preordered the deluxe version with hawthornes bag. even was allowed to go to the midnight press release of D2 hosted by activision here in Holland.
The fact that witch queen is by far the best expansion they've released for D2 by a long mile should tell you everything wrong with Bungie.
This whole video was a nostalgia trip. I remember coming home from high school and playing this game every damn day.
I still do as a senior, it’s grown so much in content wise and playability, it’s repetitive sure but the game is amazing still imo.
Other than class abilities, mantling, heroic public events, and the vanilla game actually having a story, D2 was a step back from D1 at the time in every aspect.
My opinion on eververse still lasts till today
Destony is NOT a "free game" it has expansions, and battle passes (that lock you out of story content btw) so it has NO RIGHT making me buy whatever cosmetics there are ON TOP of all the expansions and battle passes i already purchased!
Compare it to a free game like, lets say valorant, where cosmetics are the only thing you have to spend real money on, but the difference is, that game is COMPLETELY FREE fuck eververse, she has and will always be a stain on this game
I wished they’d keep adventures. I always felt that side quest helped with the world building
It's weird adventure icons still pop up from time to time 🤔👀
It makes you realise how much D2 was dumbed down to get more casual players playing. they totally ignored everything that made D1 so good. Nie video again, can't wait until your next instalment
Yeah it sucks
@@lazyvoid7107 End of D1 was much better than D2 Vanilla. Agree, D1 Vanilla was sorely lacking too.
D2 beta had more combo moves for arcstrider then at release they just got removed without any news.
You tryna make it 150 GB like warzone?
As a solo player I used to get raid weapons and trials weapons from Hawthorne it was amazing because I didn’t have to play the modes
The bad thing about 4v4 was when everybody got bored of PvP and wanted to PvE, one sucker got left out.
feel like there should be a part 2
More parts of the series is coming
@@NovemberHotel great vid nonetheless
Did you forget we didn’t get private matches in D1 until year 3?
No I remembered. But how can they add private matches into the game finally and then 1 year later the sequel doesn’t have them lol. It’s ridiculous
Destiny was my favourite game when I was younger, I was addicted to Destiny 2 for like 2 weeks then I quit, I only started playing again back in lockdowns and its so weird, adult me is now addicted to the game which had teenager me addicted
in hindsight, seeing Luke talk almost all the time about 4v4 pvp this and competitive pvp that was the first redflag, the double primaries was the icing of the cake, man, the dark ages indeed,
No, Eververse was NOT at its worst here. At the moment is when its at its worst.
I meant so far in the franchise. We’ll be getting to modern day destiny 2 soon enough but at the time it was worse than anything in d1
It only got worse with the fact some people genuinely thought a brand new game could be better than a game that's been out for 3 years with 4 DLC's that tons of people loved.
i think you forgot to mention that the time to kill was slower in the crucible too
13:32 "We still felt weak"
Well well well, look were we are now
Forsaken "saved" destiny 2 because it was the closest we got to destiny 1.
Are you talking about d2 year 1 we're we suffered through a year of team shooting in trials of the nine and control??? Yeah that's not balanced
@@mugiwara8295 I loved it...was my favorite time in crucible, I can barley play it now
I really wish I played more d2 when all this came out because now I’ve missed out on all the old shaders and loot
Still don’t have mayhem rumble 5 years later
4:34 - 4:35 He got a double kill with 1 Golden Gun shot! Awesome!
I often read comments of people saying they want to go back to these times. I no longer read comments.
Then we got what we got :/
So much potential so much wasted
i wanna go back to D1
I quit Destiny 2 in October 2017 after being a pretty avid D1 player. Haven’t been back since, Bungo shouldn’t have fucked it up AGAIN in the sequel
Forsaken might as well as have been Destiny 3. Then Beyond Light was Destiny 4, maybe... it's all the same game now, but the game evolved SO MUCH since then.
Really enjoying these videos, keep it up
Thanks, will do!
"Our guardian is nothing more then a camera attached to a gun"- DarkSideRoyalty 2022
I miss Titan patrol spaces. They were neat.
Seeing a heavy grenade launcher hit for 700 damage is just depressing
PERFECT TIMING!
The beta was one of the most disappointing things I had ever seen. Oh boy.
Ohhh seeing Bdobbins! Loved his videos back in the day. I could complain about destiny while listening to him…..then hop on Destiny a little later. Lol
Same lol
This is like old news
i'm doing a series where i'm going over each year of the game. I started with each year of Destiny 1, and now we're into Destiny 2. This was of course covering Destiny 2 Hype, Beta, and Launch and next episode will be covering curse of osiris and warmind
Man I miss my arc staff helicopter
I agree with a lot of this, but if you think Leviathan is not a great raid, you are objectively incorrect.
Opinions aren’t objective. They’re subjective. And in my opinion it’s not a great raid.
Video suggestion. stasis being underutilized story wise.
Bungie said throughput the year of beyond light, enemy races would get stasis but it didn't happen til lost and scorn and taken are the only stasis wielding enemies so WTF happened?
