Destiny’s feeling of mystery that was brought in year one is something I wish I could recapture. The music, the settings, the gear, just had this aura of expansiveness and unknowing that grabbed me
It’s always fascinating to see the story of Destiny. Imagine working on a project for so long just to have your higher up tell you that it’s not what they want and having your project be completely scrapped. Despite that, Destiny will always be one of my favorite games, for better and for worse.
Unsurprising , was the “management” Activision or just Bungie’s higher up ? What a piece of shlt , I’m glad they branched off . They did him too dirty , glad they still decided to use his version of the lore

Was never a fan of Halo, but was so curious to try out the game. Managed to be one of the first 10,000 to get into the Alpha and man, was I hooked from day one. The atmosphere, the gunplay, everything. And dude, the first time facing Sepiks Prime when you reached level 8 was just something else. Despite the highs and lows of Destiny, the highs do outshine, and can't wait for both Lightfall and The Final Shape. But yeah, for D1, you just had to be there.

You’re videos are so good man! I remember seeing you’re videos on starting a new character in destiny 1 during the pandemic in 2020 and still to this day I go back and rewatch them. You’re one of the best destiny UA-cam channels out there. Keep it up!
"Destiny was and still is a game that is brimming with potential and still quite hasn't fully reached it" I agree. There is a long way left for Destiny to hit it's peak. But, after the catasrophy that was (and is) vaulting, Destiny has recovered and at this point, thrived. I struggle to say we're in the games "Golden age". I think that comes when all of the vaulted content returns, and new content continues to add to the game without a monkey's paw in the mix. What I CAN say, though - is that Destiny is currently the best it's ever been, and it's only getting better and better. With the news that expansions are no longer being sunset, and the game is going to continue to grow with minimal content loss, I can see Destiny hitting it's peak in the next few years. I just hope they manage to find a way to fit all the content together without sacrifices, because I truly think that's what it will take for Destiny to truly be king, permanently.
I honestly feel that isn't the case. The vaulting really doesn't captivate any new audience or potential new players, and for me, if your game can't stand on it's own without prior play, it just doesn't hold up... Bungie really needs to find a way to seamlessly splice all of its old content. I'd be satisfied if I could do King's Fall and Leviathan side by side, all the while exploring the Red War and the Forsaken campaign. There's also a huge difficulty problem - Strikes and patrol activities are laughably easy for our current power level, while certain raid/dungeon difficulties are literally just stat-checks!
Really takes me back man. I remember getting a PS4 and playing the Alpha for the game. I was hyped beyond belief, it's unfortunate that the game was a bit lackluster for a while. It got much better overtime and with a dedicated clan though. Peak D1 was just the best though, it really was such a fun experience, I do miss it.
Something worth to point out is that their e3 showcase actually didn't play out as planned. It may have been well received, but that was not their intended footage due to technical issues on stage, so they showed a pre-recorded footage last minute. Furthermore, from context clues through interviews, & articles that came out about their workplace culture, esp. the one last year, there are implications that lots of the og folx who left, were rather difficult to work with anyway. I also think this makes that Luke-Jason interview right before the Witch Queen reveal stream even more important. They admitted that they learned from the D1 mistake of not having someone around who's always up-to-date on what the team is doing. To provide management feedback more pro-actively & from the get go from now on. He took responsibility for that part at least.
As a person who played runescape since 2007, Destiny 1 presented a genuine challenge to me and thats what I like about it. I remember grinding crucible for hours a day just to get the legendary armor set. Nowadays, in D2, you get legendary gear dropped like its candy. And the PVP rather than it being all about gunplay its all about ability spamming. I remember the days when I could go into a pvp match with whatever weapons I had, and so long as I could aim I would top frag. Now, if you're not using a 140 rpm handcannon or a slug shotgun you automatically get destroyed. If destiny 1 was on pc, without ANY question I would buy the game and buy all the dlc, aswell as play it relentlessly. I remember being the first guy in my friendgroup to get all legendary gear and 2 exotics, and that took WEEKS, I played destiny 2 for 300 hours and I have obtained all the exotic weapons and legendary gear. Even now, I still don't have all the exotics in D1. Thats what made the game so great, the huge time commitment and the rarity of gear made it feel so much better when I finally got that drop. That's where destiny needs to be and that's the future they need to make for it.
Unfortunately. ever since Fortnite was made all video games have contributed to this "seasonal" p2w mechanic. So I doubt game's will ever be the same. It will probably take 20+ years until developers wise up and its all because of that stupid fucking video game. Thats why I only play Tf2 or black ops 1 now, new games suck. We need to turn back the clock to originality and good old fashioned DLC. To this day, once every 2 months or so I go on my minecraft world which is on Beta 1.0 and play for an hour or two.
1.6 hrs in d2 checking in , D1 felt like a whole different experience than what we have now , not for worse or for better. D2 is a different game and cant wait to see this series through!
Now this brings a smile to my face. I remember those good days. It was awesome getting together with a few friends and just messing around. I miss that.
I didn’t jump in until The Darkness Below and as an inexperienced MMO/RPG player at the time I was frankly lost at the beginning but I was intrigued by it all. After wandering around solo for a couple of months ( forever lvl 28 ) I finally met some good people during a strike that invited me into their group. My first raid was Crota and the Icebreaker dropped for me on the first run! Then I did VOG and got the Fatebringer on my second run…had to wait till about the 20th Crota run until I finally got the G‘horn…fast forward to D2 launch and I had about 2800hrs under my belt. The game was fantastic even with all the problems but it was the people I met during that time that really made the experience something special…and it’s never been repeated since. I still pop in once in a while just for feels. Great vid November 👍🏻
This is so nostalgic... I participated in the Destiny 1 beta on the PS3 when I was about 10 or 11 years old and I remember very well how much I loved this game. After the beta ended I kept playing the demo non-stop (as if it was the full game) since I couldn't buy the game. Unfortunately, it is not available on Steam (unlike Destiny 2 which is there). I hope one day they make a PC port...
They didn't want a beginning, middle, end (or a complete game for that matter). They wanted endless content stream they could print money off, I really feel bad for Staten.
Very good assessment of D1. This was the first game of its type that I ever played. Beating VOG was such an accomplishment. The game has certainly transformed a lot since those early days
If anything, Id say Halo 3 ODST was a prototype for how Destiny's destinations would play out. Once you beat the game or have moved to a point in the story to have the entire map unlocked, you can go off on your own, ignoring the main objective and explore the entire map at your leisure, something that Destiny takes to heart since the beggining. Although there isnt much to see really, there are a few secrets you can go after, like hidden loot caches, how enemies respawn when you and your team are in or out of the area, a few achievments here and there, audio logs ect. There can even be a few "public events" where a group of hunters or a ton of shielded brutes (in spaces where they normally eould not spawn) would come out and you and your team can have a tiny firefight in that instant.
I still remember playing the D1 beta when I was a little kid, I remember coming home and being devastated when I tried to log onto the beta and found out it was over
I remember playing the beta. We’ve come a long way boys. This game vibes felt so chill, a sort of trial & error game that you felt the potential within.
i wish we could know what the original story was, i wonder if it has survived somewhere but it would most likely be under some NDA or copyright thing that won't allow it to ever see the light sadly
Still remember the night I got ballerhorn from crota, came right after we went back to orbit. I never thought I'd scream that much over a game. Truly an amazing experience.
I still remembered that one year long content drought...I forgot if its before The Taken King or the Rise of Iron DLC content. Good times and bad times xD
I often think of the alternative reality where we got the original vision for the franchise and wondering just how different it would be for better or worse. Loving all the D1 nostalgia from everyone recently.
the vibe of the pre release stuff has been so totally lost in d2 by now. d2 writing is like a marvel movie or something but d1 was so mysterious and cool, especially the grimoire.
One of the biggest let downs from the previews and trailers is that I always thought the world was more open. Like you could fly your ship to each planet and land anywhere and explore. Kinda like no man's sky.
I remember when I first heard about Destiny. I was in 8th grade when I got the recent addition of Game informer magazine, and Destiny was the cover art of it.
I was 13 when vanilla dropped and I played the hell out of it all through Dark Below until House of Wolves. Curious to see how Destiny has changed from then until present day.
Nothing will ever beat the destiny 1 vibe, not fornite no bo2 or mw2 gave me the hours of good moments this game gave me. Over an 100 days on my huntre and i still play from time to time. Its still incredebly fun and ill never forget the joi this game brang me
Fuck man, I miss this game. I got d2 when it came out but it just never clicked like the first game did for some reason. Really shows how less can be more.
i wonder what the next game is after D2. i hear itll be another mmo like but bigger. but the way i see the gaming industry is going, i can see NFTs maybe in the game.
I did research and appearly it will be a PvP competitive based online game that would be F2P and the name is possibly called Matter and Bungie would never add NFTs in the game since they actually care about the environment.
The Taken King will *always* be the peak of Destiny. Back when exotics meant something, back when strikes were decent, back when the game was actually challenging, back when the game was just fun. I could go on and on, but I could never truly capture peak Destiny through a simple comment. I'm not the only one that thinks this, there's a reason why people still play D1 to this day. Oh, and you can't forget Rise of Iron. Those Age of Triumph raid ornaments will forever be the best armour Bungie has ever made, including Halo armour.
It’s funny how a more linear story the higher ups didn’t want and move to open ended story which plagued this game for years. That does higher ups didn’t do what they did and trusted the team who knows what we would have gotten. But here in witch queen where we got a more traditional story mode with a Campaign and I’ll say this Witch Queen has the best and only campaign in destiny history. Before witch queen we had story missions rarely actually a structured missions with set. We did get an attempt at one for Destiny 2 vanilla but outside the opening, the ending and a moment here and there it played out typical destiny. Witch queen to me was the first true campaign in this franchise done right and memorable all the way through even for new lights I know.
Since I didn't read anything about the game, and didn't play the alpha or the beta, and getting the game september 14th 2014, I thought the game was amazing. Had never played anything like it. And I still to this day got more hours in Destiny 1 then I have in Destiny 2, a game I have played since day 1. So...I played it alot.
Destiny was good but could’ve been beyond great if they didn’t change the whole game 3months before launch, if they kept pvp and pve separate and focused on more repayable content.
Pretty spot-on. I remember feeling so disappointed with D1, and throughout D1 and D2 there were many points where I stopped playing. But it's kind of the only game I play these days
I've got high hope for the future for destiny. D1 wasn't perfect but it was so unique compared to anything else on console at the time. Can't believe it has been nearly 8 years since the launch, sometimes it feels just like yesterday.
Shit makes me sad man.. played a lot of games in my time and was around for some of the launches and peak times for some of the greatest games out there, but nothing will ever match the nostalgia and joy I felt playing Destiny for the first time..
casual '' hope for the future'' line and not make it a pun to the song? the restraint is strong in this one. cant wait for the series. even if I only joined in late Taken King.
Does D1 still have a pretty solid community? New light player and I have really been enjoying D2. I tried D1 back in the day but never got far enough to enjoy it to the fullest. Is it worth going back and experiencing?

I was 13 when vanilla dropped and I played the hell out of it all through Dark Below until House of Wolves. Curious to see how Destiny has changed from then until present day.
The next 7 episodes are out on the channel! If you want to see the progress of the franchise I’m covering it all!
Nothing will ever beat the destiny 1 vibe, not fornite no bo2 or mw2 gave me the hours of good moments this game gave me. Over an 100 days on my huntre and i still play from time to time. Its still incredebly fun and ill never forget the joi this game brang me
Destiny 2´s story is literally just destiny 1´s original story......
how do you know? do we have any leaks for the OG story?
Tiger engine was amazing. Destiny 1 had the greatest aesthetics
The story of Bungies progression on Destiny is magical. It’s a game I always come back to. We break up every few months though 😝
Damn imagine if the player joined ship flew over in outside missions. Always thought I imagined this scene. Been a hot minute since I’ve seen D1
Man I played this game none stop when it came out
D1 was so fun and i had so many memories with it. D2 honestly is just not the same
So awesome to learn all of this! I’m going to love this series!!
Hope you enjoy it!
Man I was furious back then and excited for Destiny when it came out. But looking back at it, I'm glad I was angry and excited.
random question but does anyone know where I could find that "reach" hoodie that the developer has on it the video at 2:51 ?
my grandpa made the music for the first couples halos and now destiny, super cool everything that this company has done
Who is your grandpa?
@@NovemberHotel michael salvatori
@@whois_dev9314 that’s awesome!
@@NovemberHotel thanks my man, appreciate the video, brought back some good memories, can’t wait for lightfall
D1 YEAR ONE WAS PEAK!
Destiny 1 was one of the best if not the best game ever . Amazing plus the friendships and experiences made and the raids
Brilliant video, fingers crossed we get a Destiny 3 some day!
🤞🏻
Fantastic video 👍
Fuck man, I miss this game. I got d2 when it came out but it just never clicked like the first game did for some reason. Really shows how less can be more.
Man i still wish i could go back to destiny year 1
I remember almost farming the blades of crota, just because their swords were fun to use.
i wonder what the next game is after D2. i hear itll be another mmo like but bigger. but the way i see the gaming industry is going, i can see NFTs maybe in the game.
I did research and appearly it will be a PvP competitive based online game that would be F2P and the name is possibly called Matter and Bungie would never add NFTs in the game since they actually care about the environment.
I live for these vids lol
The better times.
Pretty spot-on. I remember feeling so disappointed with D1, and throughout D1 and D2 there were many points where I stopped playing. But it's kind of the only game I play these days
I enjoy it because I get to just turn my brain off for an hour or two and go nuts with my Graviton Lance on the Moon.
Still got my Dinkleghost on my shelf
imagine how massive this game would have been if it just came out with the current hardware we have and they werent forced to cut stuff?
Makes ya wonder if someone has a playable version before everything got reworked.... that would be GOLD.
8 years damn I'm getting old
Still playing D1 in 2022 because D2 has yet to impress me.
I've got high hope for the future for destiny. D1 wasn't perfect but it was so unique compared to anything else on console at the time. Can't believe it has been nearly 8 years since the launch, sometimes it feels just like yesterday.
Yes it really does. I remember my first raid like it was yesterday but it’s been 8 years
Shit makes me sad man.. played a lot of games in my time and was around for some of the launches and peak times for some of the greatest games out there, but nothing will ever match the nostalgia and joy I felt playing Destiny for the first time..
Te quiero mucho NovemberHotel
I'd really like to play these versions of the game on some kind of private fanmade server on an emulator
The Memories… :’)
43 TO THE HEA WITH SUROS IS CRAZY😂
even though i only currently have the demo version of d1, it feels a lot more fun to play than d2 imo
I rember when i played the beta. So long ago
destiny 1 was so good! i miss it
casual '' hope for the future'' line and not make it a pun to the song? the restraint is strong in this one. cant wait for the series. even if I only joined in late Taken King.
Taken king is my next episode so stay tuned!
@@NovemberHotel will do. Your content is amazing. You earned another sub!
@@BalthazarDesign thank you!
I’m still playing it I just wish they treat it like an alternate universe and just do some things for it BRING BACK SPARROW RACING IN IT!!
Oh my nostalgia ❤️
Does D1 still have a pretty solid community? New light player and I have really been enjoying D2. I tried D1 back in the day but never got far enough to enjoy it to the fullest. Is it worth going back and experiencing?
Personally I think it’s worth going back to. D1 and it’s locations along with the stories are worth it at the very least
@@NovemberHotel gotcha. I'll do that at some point. Appreciate it.
@@r-say9540 no problem!
2,000+ Hours in d1, only around 800 hours on d2, says a lot, but also i now have a full time job and 3 kids xD
miss playing trials every weekend with my American buddy's good times
