Japan has many talented and amazing female drummers, this video is 20 Japanese great and amazing female drummers.
The drummers in this list is not based on ranking. Please decide for yourself who your favourite drummer is.

All incredible talents but my favorites are 🦍🥁🔥Akane and 💚YOYOKA💚. Trying to choose between them would be like choosing between my daughter and my granddaughter. It's not gonna happen. So proud of both of them.
Senri Kawaguchi is the Queen of Drumming.
Kanade Sato is the Goddess of Drumming. She does everything so easily, she is always totally relaxed, and she plays with a level of musicality that sets her above any other drummer I know.
You are right. They can play jazz, funk, fusion, and also metal rock.

Senri was 14 years. Bassist and keyboardist was members of CASIOPEA and Guitarist is legend guitarist of Japan.
Now Kanade Sato plays with CASIOPEA.
Undoubtedly Kanade Sato is a remarkable and talented young drummer, but for me it's still Senri and Yoyoka. They just shade it. It's all a matter of opinion of course. It's just my preference.

They are all wonderful. I do love Akane of Band Maid who is always smiling and managing to do the complicated and the easy with equal flair.

They are all more or less incredible . Senri is already a legend . But my heart goes to Kanade Sato .I simply cant explain how much I admire her.

I was fortunate enough to see Senri Kawaguchi at a small clinic in Canada in September 20, 2022.
I had waited for about 10 years, following her on UA-cam, to finally get to see her perform and she was incredible.
I hope that one day, I can see all of these great drummers.
I have tickets to see Yoyoka play this weekend. YAY!

Senri, Akane, Kanade, Tamu are my favorites. Once you get to their level, it's hard to rank, so I won't.
Those are probably my favourites of this list as well even though I also really like Yoyoka and Nao.
I would probably name Senri as my favourite of the bunch even if I am quite a bit Band-Maid fan, but I do agree that it's very difficult to compare them.
I started listening to Senri before I got into the Japanese Rock/Metal rabbit hole, so that's probably why.
That being said, all of these women are incredibility talented musicians, no doubt about that.
I can without a doubt say that all of the ones I heard before deserve to be on this list and I'm sure the same can be said for the rest.

Senri Kawaguchi is one of the top drummers in the world and destined to be one of the greatest ever.
Their all great but Yoyoka is phenomenal. 😍
Senri Kawaguchi and Juna Serita recently formed all female jazz-funk group.

So many great female drummers. But Senri and Akane have taken my heart for being consistently enovative, prolific and solid. They always play exactly what's right for the song while keeping it exciting without overplaying!

Senri and Kanade are the most skilled ones. Generally. Mad chops!
Tamu is totally amazing. She is allround and can play anything. Just a step below Senri and Kanade, but more useful. You can hire her, she is a session drummer.
Yoyoka is young and totally amazing, but needs to mature before she knows what to do with that talent. She might be the most skilled one technically. She has a scary skill regarding timing and dynamics. And also memory. She learn to cover a complex song tone for tone in no time at all.
Haruna is fast. Blindingly fast. And has a unbelievable stamina. I thought that was her only skills until I heard Lovebites cover of Painkiller. Now I know she can more.
Junna is a bit of a special case. She started drumming late. And still has very nice chops. Some impressive covers. But, I am not sure how all around she is.
Akane is also a special case. Her drumming in BAND-MAID is amazing. But I have not heard so much of her diversity.
Sae is a good drummer, but I do not think she is generally amazing.
The rest of the girls I know nothing about.

Every day of the week for me it would be Haruna and Akane!! However, Senri Gawaguchi is No.1 and will be for a long time!!
Yoyoka, Akane, and Tamu are my favorites. It's not just skill or talent, which these ladies have in abundance, but an ability to express joy that moves me.

My favorites are Akane, Senri and Kanado.
They are all amazing, but as a Maidiac A-chan is my favourite :)
They are all amazingly talented; but for me it's got to be Senri Kawaguchi and Yoyoka Soma.
I'm biased but I'll take Akane any day of the year - mainly because I listen to her on repeat in contrast to the other drummers on the list. But all these drummers are huge talents and inspirational to budding female musicians everywhere. Japan appears to produce by far the most talented, technical and dedicated female rock and metal drummers in the world. And it doesn't seem to be close.
In general, Japanese female musicians are outstanding.

Great list! Senri and Kanade are so technically proficient they remind me of Neil Peart. Yoyoka is a natural that is having so much fun and can switch gears and cover any master, any style! Junna has the best presentation I’ve ever seen! She’s very talented on the drums but if you close your eyes and listen on the headphones to focus on the fine details you miss the visual part of her art and that’s a major loss! They’re all monsters in different dimensions and I’m thankful for their hard work and the resources and support they had while they worked hard at it!
Great compilation. Can't argue with those choices. Though my favourite one is Hona Ikoka from Gesu No Kiwami Otome. Great video.

I have heard them all. All these Japanese drummers can compete with anyone in the world. Junna still leaves me astonished with her tempo and technique. I watch her videos to support her.

Love all these drummers on this list. My bias... Junna as she is the embodies the drummers both with her skill, facial expressions, and non-stop energizer bunny playing. She is like the Lang Lang of drumming with her facial expressions and pure enjoyment of playing and performing!!
Rina is one of my favorite musicians as Scandal is in my top 3 favorite bands, but was a little surprised she made the list. Give me Akane any day. She kills it everytime.

@@Glen.Black. Well deserved. Anyone that knows about this little skunk loves her. I'm glad for all the old videos of her being a little camera ham giving us free drum lessons not that long ago.
@@michaelwalker7570 Yes! I love it when she puts her little round face all up in the camera and yells "KONICHIWA!", then says "Now, pay attention" and "Dad, point the camera over here!" The lesson videos are precious! I got to meet YOYOKA and her father when they came to Vegas, went to the Silk Sonic concert with her and got to meet Anderson.Paak, and watched her practice. One of the highlights of my life!

Compared to Kanade Sato the rest make only noise.
Yoyoka is the Bruce Lee of drumming.

They all seem like VERY talented drummers, but I'm only viewing this video for ONE reason - YOYOKA SOMA!! She's not only AMAZING, especailly that she's only 12, but she's become a GLOBAL sensation and an ambassador to Japanese musicians (for many of us). Yoyoka may not be the best drummer in the world yet, but, given her incredible rate of growth and incredible musical range,, might only be a matter of time.

Akane like Misa puts so much extra in a song and like Misa it sounds right, like it should be there, those 2 rival any rhythm section on the planet right now. Plus Akane is just fun to watch makes it look effortless
There is something in all their respective styles, that is master crafstman worthy.
Some can transport joy and positivity through their drum sound. Others are heavy and methodic. Some are contrasted, seemingly light at first and able to put extrem power when needed. Some other are lightning fast and razor sharp.
This is like seeing multiple watch brands, all making different stuff, but, in the end, giving the exact time.
I can only be testimony of their incredible skill and wish them a happy life.
I was really pleased that you included a couple of jazz/fusion drummers in your list, as they usually are ignored

Yoyoka has played with dozens of other professional musicians live, in the studio and in remote collaborations. These include Ian Paice (Deep Purple), Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big), Tony Franklin (The Firm), Rhonda Smith (Prince), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater), Fall Out Boy and Cyndi Lauper. She plays a wide-range of genres including rock, swing, jazz and funk (I have not seen reggae... yet). Yoyoka is already recognized as one of the best world wide having been selected as one of Drummerworld's top 500 drummers. She was 11 at the time, the youngest ever (Senri Kawaguchi was previously the youngest).
One example of her abilities: Yoyoka was a surprise guest drummer for Fall Out Boy, performing in front of 20,000 people. The regular drummer stood by in case she flubbed it. About half-way through, the drummer walked off like "yep, she has this". Yoyoka knocked the song out of the park. They only practiced once, in the dressing room, at no volume. I call this a good test for being able to play anything with any musician.
Yoyoka's 12th Birthday session is a collection of videos made in one day with several well known Japanese musicians. They were selected and invited by Yoyoka and all wanted to participate. Please take a listen, they are good (Search Yoyoka 12th Birthday).
And the coolest part: she still has a lot to learn...

Junna is a former member of Girls Rock Band Kakumei, not Trident. Trident is what they changed their name to after Junna had left. I know that it's just a technicality since it's the same group but still, it's there.
So we have to choose, we'll said. We all have different tastes.
We have got some prodigies here. Senri for master of the chops, Kanade is the most musical and a personal fav. Yoyoko is a work in progress, please stand by. A few of the others favorites would give me a headache but be someone else's top choice.
I must find this factory in Japan that keeps mass-producing bad-ass female drummers…

I love Haruna, and Tamu, but Nao is the queen, her energy is infectious, she is largely responsible for inspiring an entire generation of female drummers in japan.
All are good, but Lovebites and Haruna play masterfully.

Yoyoka is the most skilled and talented natural drummer, her ability to emulate the great drummers in rock is astonishing. But we are yet to see her do a Who song and cover the Keith Moon style.

Strictly for Rock....yeah, she has great natural talent. The best I've ever seen at such a young age for Rock drumming. But remember, Yoyoka is copying... NOT creating.
As an all around drummer of all styles, Senri Kawaguchi is by far the absolute pinnacle of modern drummers... both male and female.
Seriously, it ain't even close. Senri not only reads music, she's created 4 albums worth of original music. And her drum parts are spectacular, to say the least.
Yoyoka has some work to do to get to her level.

JUNNA is in a class by herself -the most entertaining of drummers, anywhere, not just in Japan. She doesn't "play" drums. She "lives" in the music and expresses it through drumming. Even the original DragonForce drummer (Gee Anzalone) says her cover of his song is the best ever.
Beautiful and great, maybe my favorite is Junna, but Yoyoka is getting better and better every day :)

Another drummer I'd add to this list is Sato Honami from Gesu no Kiwami Otome. Not a Metal drummer like the rest here, but the girl has such a sick groove and absolutely solid on the kit aside from the additional vocals she can contribute to the band.
