  • In this DIY video, I will install the Kilmat sound deadening mat to the back of my DCSB 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma. Since I removed my rear seats for my Rear Seat Delete (link below) the road noise was definitely increased. After adding this 80 mil Kilmat, the road noise was vastly reduced. This stuff really works! I purchased everything for this install off of Amazon for about $40 and it only takes very basic tools to install. I used about two thirds of the 18-SQF that came in the box so there are extra pieces of mat if you want to go further down the floor.

    Most excellent UA-cam instructional demonstration video ever. Instead of cramming 6 minutes of information into a 52 minute video, you did the reverse. Brilliant! Not once did I hear "Hey, guys..."

    The whole process only took about 2-3 hours and I was happy with the results. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching. TbT

    I copied your Rear Seat Delete video and love it, thanks. I also did Killmat through the whole truck ie- rear panel, floor and all doors. Works great and improves music quality. I found it best to peel the edge off the Killmat then slowly roll it on as you peel rest off and cut as you go. Everybody has their method but I think thats definitely the way to go when doing the doors, behind the side impact bar.

      Nice. Great, glad the delete worked for you… I love mine. Adds so much more usable space. 🤙🏼

    Good info. The Tacoma rear seat is loud, no matter what. Might try this...

      Agreed. It’s loud, but I think this did make it better. Maybe psychological lol but seems quieter. Good luck and thanks for watching and commenting. TbT.

    Back in the day -2011ish - Peel and Seal was the rage especially for us on a tight budget. Anyways I had ordered some speakers for my audio upgrade but 1st things 1st I deadened the back wall of my Taco... that's as far as I got that day. The next day wife & I hop in the truck and I'm thinking to myself this is amazingly quite but also thought nah my mind is playing tricks on me. A little bit later wife says your new speakers sound good. I told her all I did was deaden the back wall. I wound up doing all the doors too which helped but the back wall made the biģgest difference.

      It sure does. Thanks for watching and commenting. I do need to upgrade my speakers at some point too. I’ll definitely do the doors then. I think the real noise comes through the glass though. I have read (On Tacomaworld I think) that the Tacoma glass is pretty weak for sound dampening compared to other brands. I can definitely hear the road noise through the rear doors and windows more now... center middle back wall noise way down for sure. It’s a start. Stay safe out there. TbT

      I did the rear doors one day then the fronts another day & each progression made a noticeable difference. I bet the rear seat delete made the road noise worse.
      Enjoy all your videos... the travels, the diy's with links, all good stuff. I have one small critique if you don't mind... you've got to do something to clue me in that the video is closing. I'm sitting there watching it & then next thing I know it ended and I haven't "liked" it. I guess I could "like" it at the start but I usually wait until the end. I probably just need to pay better attention. Anyways keep up the good work.

      Haha no problem. It’s a work in progress. I’ll try to add some type of closing wrap up or something in future vids. Thanks again.

    So--I used to do sound deadening for practice rooms for musicians. One thing that I learned is that EVERY penetration through a sound barrier (we sound-proofed the various rooms from one another so, for example, the drummer's practice session wouldn't affect the piano player next door) allows A LOT of noise to go through. So all those little cut-outs you make in the kilmat, basically make your whole process nearly useless. Just sayin....

      Maybe so, but the sound difference is enough for the low cost and effort. Just sayin. 🤙🏼. If you have a rear seat delete it’s loud - twice as loud as with the seats in. The Kilmat (even with the not perfect coverage ) is just as quiet as with the seats in now. So good enough for me.

      It worked great in my Tacoma, a noticeable difference to the stereo sound quality. But I did my whole truck, rear, floor and all doors.

      If I understand correctly the Killmat or other automotive sound deadening is to stop the rattling in the steal, the tin noise, rather than actually absorbing the sound wave, if you know what I mean.

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma  3 роки тому +2

      Yep, I think it just makes the truck quieter / more solid sounding less tin’y. By no means does it make it a recording studio, but road /air noise and the thin metal sound/feeling is way better for sure.

    Hi very nice video, I'm planning todo the same thing, how much sheet you used for that? Thank you

      Thanks for watching and commenting. I used one box of Kilmat- 18 square feet. I just did the back wall and a little of the floor in the back. Made a difference for sure, but the truck is still a little loud. Door wind noise creates the most noise I think. Good luck. TbT

      Thank you, did you do your 4 doors aswell?

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma  2 роки тому

      No doors just the back panel, if I remember correctly. I just added a little to the door panels behind the door speakers, but that was it. TbT.
