Why I Think STOMP MODE on the Line 6 POD GO is BETTER Than Snapshots

  • Snapshots are fantastic on the Line 6 POD GO...but I think stomp mode provides greater preset flexibility overall. What do you think?

I want to mention that I realize you can make multiple presets for your gig with each one using snapshots...switch between them all for each song. But to me that's a lot of pre-gig programming work, especially for what a typical bar gig pays at least here in Toronto. I'd still rather have one stomp mode preset that covers most or all of my gig needs, and provides me some on the fly variety. Just my $0.02 🙂

That's actually an eye-opener! I'm always looking for the simplest method to get just a few great tones. Thanks again, always the best tutorials!

I use mine in stomp mode for the same reasons especially when using an external looper. Great video Josh

This changes everything thanks! Please can you post a link for the preset you demo'd in this video? Want to try the extra gain thing and just got the pod go so not sure how to do that yet.

I'll check if I still have the preset. I literally just cleaned up my POD GO's preset last night. Might still have it somewhere though. Thanks for watching!

I try to blend stomp and snapshots. Each snapshot is a gain stage, and all stomps are bypasses or controller assignments.

Are you limited to one amp/speaker combination with this setup? Switching amps and cabs based on the tone you're after (clean, dirty, lead) offers more control over the feel and the final sound of this aging digital guitar processor. In my limited understanding, this is where snapshots offer flexibility with different amp and cab combinations, allowing you to dial in your desired sound more precisely. The fact that this box allows user-uploadable cabinet IRs is a significant selling point. I would love to see a major manufacturer like this support NAM captures to extend the life of these older devices! ;) Otherwise, stomp mode is the best way to set up for a gig because of the dynamic control over many sounds.
Do you find that combining the Brit J45 Clean amp and 4x12 Brit V30 cab provides a good starting point when using "pedal-based" sounds?

Whether you are in stomp mode or Snapshots, you can only use one amp and one cabinet on the POD GO. Snapshots just allow you to change the parameters of your preset, not the amps/cabs/fx themselves. But Stomp Mode won't allow you to change amp and/or cabinet parameters whereas Snapshots can. For example, you can have one snapshot set to a crunch drive on the amp and another one with the drive at full blast. Can't do that in stomp mode. But I view my presets like a real analog pedalboard into tube amp setup. So I like the freedom of any pedal combination I want on/or off with stomp mode. With snapshots you only get 4 of them to set your pedals and amp how you like them.
Ultimately, it's up to the individual's needs.

Hi Josh, thank you for the great videos. I have situation in stomp mode, where I have a clean sound, and have assigned distortion, and compression to FS4 for a heavier sound. I also want FS4 to switch the shimmer reverb off (when I click distortion on). I have managed to achieve this, however I need to invert the light on FS4, that is, distortion is on when the light is off..........I hope that makes sense...it's hard to explain. I want the FS4 light to be on when distortion is on and reverb is off.

I’ve had this issue as well. I think it has to do with the order in which you assigned the effects to the switch, and what’s on and off. Not sure of the exact solution here 😔

Hello sir, It would be great if it's available in custom tone. I really like the les paul tone.

I'm with you. Besides to me, for now, since I only have this unit a couple wks, setting up the snapshots is cumbersome, especially in setting the "camera" icon over on the left, and then having to set the little arrows too. PLUS, right now, I'm only playing every Sunday on a worship team and we only do four songs per Sunday service. Stomp mode is all I need with 6 switches available. Plus if I even use any distortion, it is VERY minimal, as that would freak out some of this congregation, and I don't want to do that! haha SO, mostly I have of course the mandatory EQ on all the time, plus mostly reverb and dynamics pedals also on all the time. Then options for delay and chorus. And even one switch left over. I also get confused with seeing "Multiple" with a "number" on the screen. SO if there's the ability to put TWO on one switch, it does not really appear to be able to tell what's on that switch. Thanks....Good Video. PS....have used the unit the last two Sundays in Stomp Mode, and it's worked out fine thus far. Also the most simple setup for now! haha....I've bought a few patches and those do have snapshots.

I just discovered that you can rename the footswitch labels in pod go edit. So now instead of “Multiple 3” as the label, I have “Overdrive” which dimes the gain, drops the bass, and adjusts the channel volume to my preference. Big improvement imho when in stomp mode!

    Hey Josh,
i use the pod go for live gigs. What do you think about Boos IR 2 in use with pedals as simple alternative ?
The Celestion IR‘s in IR2 seems good maybe it is worth a review?
Greetings from Germany. And thx for your superb content👍

I recently bought the BOSS IR-2 pedal. I think it sounds great. Yes, maybe a quick review or demo of it may be of interest on this channel.
