Get DOWN & DIRTY with this Grammatico GSG Preset for the Line 6 HX Stomp
Please, go straight into the board. That’s what the amp+cab sims are meant for.
The Woody Blue is an “Acoustic 360” amp. Famous BASS amp. I understand where the confusion originated.
the M80 has a 6 seconds delay, which is awesome for Frippetronics, and the ME90's 800ms max delay time is a joke. I am soooo sorry I sold my 80.. I went down the rabbit hole of multiple effects and owned (and sold): a Pod-Go, a ME-90, a GX-100, a GT1, and a line6 HXFX, but, the truth is I'm gonna go back to my first love and get myself a quality used ME80, and be happily playing ever after.
I sold my PodGo recently. It's a GREAT unit for the price. I've moved to the Fractal FM3 which is decidedly more expensive, but the control over the footswitches is next level, which is great for gigging. Before I sold it, I really wanted to try this Tonex experiment. Very cool idea.
The looper works, but it is annoying. I wish there was a global looper. I use the 6 switch looper. It is great until you want to change effects and if you haven't got the looper block on the other effect your looper stops. We shouldn't have to use a block for a looper, it should be global.
I bought a BOSS RV6 as an external pedal so I can have more DSP on my pod go. I hope you can try a Morning Glory on the POD Go, and check if stacking drive would sound good.
I had sold my PodGo a couple months ago. Because I was mainly using HX Stomp. I turned around three weeks later and bought another PodGo. Because they are both an awesome product. So you will probably end up doing the same thing with your HX Stomp and regret selling it. It has more power and the XLR outputs are great. What happened with not wanting to carry in amplifiers and pedal boards etc? Seems like you’re going backwards.
What?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
This is gold! I got the pod go a couple of years ago and have done everything, including the jailbreak, to get decent sounds. My only complaint was being limited to one amp and trying to MacGyver a way of setting the same amp for a clean and dirty tone. This opens up so many possibilities without having to buy a helix. Thank you for always doing the brain work! I love your channel.
I don't mind only having one drive, but hate having to choose between an extra chorus pedal or the looper because I haven't got enough blocks.
Question: are the FX in different POD or Line 6 models the "same" ? As in, this test applies to all POD / Line 6 ?
All Line 6 are the same sound.....only exception is pod go and stomp don't have a normal 3 prong cord for power....so a bit more noise can sneak in making you use a bit more gate
The POD Go, Helix, HX Effects, HX Stomp, and POD Express all use the same HX family of effects. However, the smaller the unit the less DSP processing power. Hence, not all of those device have the same number of effects due to DSP processing capability.
I use a real T9 on the effects loop with the only purpose of having more free blocks on my Pod Go. Though I've noticed that the noise gate isn't that effective when engaging the external effects loop.
Absolutely. The noise gate on the PG didn't seem to do much on the Mono FX Loop block.
In my experience with the real pedals the 808 is more open sounding than the ts9 which has more mids. The 808 screamer on the pod go sounds more like a ts9 to me. As a result they sound the same
They definitely sounded pretty close to me.
Thanks Josh. A useful comparison. They sounded really close, to the point where I wouldn't be able to tell which is which. Would you be able to do something similar with a compressor (Red Squeeze / Dyna Comp)? Thanks again.
Great suggestion. If I find a cheap Dyna Comp I certainly will :) Or, I can just use the compressor I have and compare those 🤔
That was a fantastic test, proving that with a bit of work and patience you can have a very very similar sound to the "real thing". With the levels at 5, I can barely hear any difference, but when pushed to 10, I do hear a little brigther sound with the 808, and a little more volume. Or at least that's what I hear. You can hear it at 3:10.
Yes, some differences are evident as you pointed out :)
Can i use my me 80 and pod go together ill use the me 80 as a fx loop but i don't know how
Interesting question 🤔 I guess you could try connecting the Send from the POD Go to the ME 80's input and the ME80's output into the POD Go's Return.
Why does the pod go that has amp models need a tone x. Surely the better fit would be the hx effects with the tone x
It doesn’t need it. But as per the video, this combo allows you to switch between two different amps/cabs which you cannot do solely on the POD Go.
Does anyone know if you can set the Helix to switch between PRESETS + SNAPSHOTS (when you hit the MODE footswitch), instead of it switching between Presets and STOMP mode...?
Thank you, I used to do this in pod go editor but for some reason, I can’t find the correct setting assignment change or whatever it’s called but anyway, thank you again
Thanks for watching!
I bought a usb-lightning adapter, but i still can’t record in garageband. Did u change some settings? I am struggling with this
I assume you use an iPad. So, is your iPad not recognizing the adapter you bought? I've read that sometimes third party adapters have trouble syncing with Apple products.
@@JoshGordonGuitari am using a iPhone
Thanks for the video. Does the Tonex help make the Pod Go sound better? Do you run your rig into a PA or FRFR when you do your shows? Thanks again.
The Tonex One doesn't make the POD Go sound better, it just makes it more versatile. As per this video, it allows for creating a two amp set up which the POD Go cannot do on its own. If I use the POD Go for a gig I would use a FRFR or even a small PA speaker/monitor as my on stage "amp". Lately I have gone back to using pedal and a tube amp live...BUT, I use a two output delay pedal. One out goes into my pedalboard and tube amp. The second output goes into the Tonex One, which goes into the band PA so that they can get a guitar feed in their monitors.
Could you better explain (for those of us who are new to "amp sims" and "PC recording" et al ) what exactly we are hearing here?. Is the sound coming from those speakers on your desktop Via a laptop or PC? or are you direct recording straight from your laptop/PC? or is there an Amp off camera we cannot see from which the sound is coming? I mean, how exactly is the Tonex One setup? it's nigh on impossible to get any decent info on this pedal (or how it is used) on the internet and IK multimedia gives no help either. Can one plug it into a PC and get a usable sound via headphones straight away or is another App needed (Like Guitar Rig or Amplitube?)
You're hearing the POD Go and Tonex One going into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface with Logic Pro recording software. I downloaded a user uploaded amp capture on the Tonex One via the Tonex SE desktop editor application. And as per the video, the TOnex One is acting like a second amp/cab model going into the POD Go's FX loop...so that I can switch between two different amp set ups.
Kind of wish you would have done a more lengthy video with different camera angles, so morons like me would understand better. But I appreciate you took my suggestion/request, at all. Thanks.
I will do a more in-depth video with a close up camera view of the PG for the 6 switch mono looper.
Far Out...... Now you gave me something to do tomorrow......
Awesome 😊
A couple of seconds into the video got me completely flabbergasted making me think it was Lar's doing a goddamn amp modelling tutorial?? lmaoo xD
Never been called a Lars Ulrich lookalike before 😂
how do i add 3rd party IR's??
I sold my Donner months ago so unfortunately I don’t know.
Nice this is the future. You dont need an expensive modeller to get top tier tones anymore. Just Tone X One and cheap modeller with decent FX and desired functionality like a Looper, drum machine, tuner, volume pedal etc. Lots of options that are under 300 bucks that can do all that well with decent FX. The Tone X then takes these cheap units to the next level.
If one doesn’t need the horsepower, features and functions of something like a Quad Cortex then why spend all that money on one? That’s my take anyway 😊
@@JoshGordonGuitar Yeah right now its just owning the latest and greatest gear. Eventually that wears off after you get sick of being broke from buying all this stuff. lol Then you realize your MG30 sitting there in corner collecting dust has excellent FX plus looper and drum machine and all it really needs is a Tone X One to put it in the top leagues.
Great information on integrating the Tonex pedal. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Josh, after these 2 years, do you prefer frfr cabs? If you do, why?
I’d choose a FRFR over a PA speaker. Mostly for the flat EQ response. A PA speaker can have some colour to it.
how do i upload custom IR's like neural dsp's??
Unfortunately, I sold this unit months ago so I cannot provide you an answer. Hopefully someone who views this video can chime in on this.
Amazing work here!
Thanks so much 🙏
Your clean tone is awful. Do you not know clean?
Tell me how you really feel lol. I'll grant you that, it's not a great clean tone. It can definitely be tweaked better. But is your insulting tone and comment necessary? Could you not have phrased something in a more contructive and helpful way?
Does this modeler have the boss x- modded, x-crunch, and x-high gain amp models in it
According to the manual I have it doesn't have those specific models listed. But there are crunch and high gain models available.
Do any of these also have acoust8c guitarcsettings?
The Stomp and POD Go have acoustic simulators...in the EQ pedal block section. No acoustic sim on the POD Express.
That sounds really good
Thanks so much 🙏
I have an account with Line 6, and logged in. When I tried to download it, a Notice came up that I either needed to purchase it, OR have a Registration code for it. SO I was not able to download it.
🤔 I have no idea why that happened. This is the first time I've heard of something like this with regards to downloading my presets from Line 6's Customtone area.
@@JoshGordonGuitar Is there another Link I could use? Would contacting Line 6 be helpful?
@@JoshGordonGuitar Maybe I should just watch your Video over again, get on a new, open Patch in the Line Go Edit s/w, and then create a patch on my own using your video references and selections. I'll give that a try today after I connect my Pod Go to my desktop. ALSO thanks for your response. Too bad I can't copy and paste the Msg I got and send it to you.
I have several AG's, and one of them IS a Taylor 810ce. will give your link a try, so Thanks in advance. I use the Taylor when I play AG on my church WT, but also have a Takamine Jumbo, so I would give that Gtr a try too. Even IF I have to tweak it, looking forward to it since there's so FEW patches for AG's for the POD GO.
Thanks for watching 🙏
Id been using studio preamp and (free) acoustic IR. Hadn’t realized there was an acoustic amp. Great video!
Thanks so much 🙏
There isn't. That's a bass amp
❤
🙏
Hey Josh, gave it a try and really like it. Thanks!!!
Awesome! Glad you like it :)
I'll give it a run. Thanks!!!
Thanks for watching 🙏
Hey Josh - I like the preset - much different from mine. I would highly suggest using an octave pedal in the chain just to add a little depth
Thanks 🙏
Hi Josh, thank you so much for all of your videos! I am considering buying a Pod Go and I am trying to learn as much as I can beforehand, and your videos have been tremendously helpful (I have also read the manual a few times). I have a question specific to this video - if you are on a snapshot and switch to stomp mode during a song, will the stomp configuration be the same as the snapshot that you were in? For example let's say you are on snapshot 1 and the chorus pedal is off. Will the chorus pedal also be off on stomp mode? I wonder if it would be practical to set up snapshots to get you in the ball park of each section of a song, then go to stomp mode mid song so that you can turn specific effects on and off... Another related question - if you switch between presets, does it remember which snap shot you had active from the last time you were on that preset, or does it always default to a predetermined snapshot? Thank you again!
Great questions but honestly, I haven't tried switching from Snapshots to Stomp during a song. And I wouldn't anyway. If I design a preset with Snapshots that's what I stick with. But I prefer Stomp Mode :) When it comes to switching between presets it defaults to how you last saved the preset.
Can't tell you how disappointing the Pod Express was. After 2 weeks of trying to get something good out of it, I found it not possible if you're after a vaguely pro sound for recording.
I ended up returning the Express. I did dial in a few sounds I loved, but overall it was too limiting for what I wanted.
Hey Josh. It sounds great. I bet the hiss was your pickups I'm guessing ? I use three EMG single coils on the strat I built. It is a Warmoth neck with huge jumbo stainless frets and staggered tuners so I don't have to use string trees and it's an alder body strat from Mexico and a 6 string standard trem, etc. ❤ I put a graphite nut and it stays in tune with major whammy bar tricks. 😂 Great stuff man. ❤ Be well sir. ❤
The hiss was from the FR10, not my pickups :)
Hi Josh. I found one of your old videos with the Headrush 108. Then I subscribed and saw this video. Very cool. I need an amp modeler. I have a boss ME 70 that I can use for effects and I can turn off the amp or preamp and the cabs. Then run into something like this Tonex you speak of. I'm also looking at the Boss IR2, but the Tonex seems to FEEL like a real amp I'm told by others . What do you think ? Could I run the Tonex and my boss me 70 in front and then to the Headrush 108 and use for small gigs and for coffee shops playing blues and blues rock and really low volume ? The Boss has an effects loop and that would allow me to put the ME70 in the loop for delays and reverb, etc. Plus, I'm going to be buying an Eventide micro pitch. I really have to have it in the effects loop or after the amps and before the cab. I don't think I can do so with the Tonex. I know I can with the IR2 by boss. I would use the brown sound a lot. For lead while playing backing tracks without guitar . ❤.. Cool channel man... Thanks and regards from South Central Indiana. USA.. Tim. ❤
Sounds like you have it figured out well :) The main reason I have a Tonex One is to have an amp sim feed to front of house or my band's PA. Sure, I can mic my amp but then that means bringing my SM57 and another cable. The Tonex One fits in the palm of my hand and takes up little room on my pedalboard. So that's my current choice :)
👍
🙏
That's fantastic, Josh... Great playing...❤❤❤
Thanks 🤘🙏
Nice! I like your approach to the song, with a bit unusual rhythm and the jazzy preset for the guitar sound. Thanks for sharing :) I'll also take this opportunity to wish you an awesome Christmas. Regards Tomasz from Warsaw, Poland.
Thanks so much 🙏
Is there a way i can use this in logic? Would the below work to track? I would Usb from sonicake - pick input sonicake in logic- output audio setting to maudio interface. Then from the guitar to sonicake input - then output jack on sonicake to the input 1/4 on my main maudio interface?
My simple connection is just output from the Matribox into my Scarlett Focusrite interface. My Focusrite is my Logic Input/Output settings.
I tried this today. it worked :) Thanks for the response!
