Excellent advice for most anyone who is about to purchase their first car or 5th car. I bought a 2007 Nissan Murano with 123,000 miles. The car was clean inside and outside. One day my car got loud, I now needed to replace the muffler. Took it in and found out the subframe holding the back tires to the car had rusted and broken off on both sides of the car. A $3,000 bill between both muffler and subframe. I only put 10,000 miles on it in a year and half...Oh boy. Come to find out 2007 Nissan's have had a major subframe issue. That is a very dangerous issue to have. The manufacture will not fix or pay for repair out of warranty.
That is brutal! So many of the major problems cars have are hiding in plain sight. They can be model year and even trim specific problems. Thank you for sharing your experience. I bet it will inspire someone reading the comment section to do that extra Google search on their next car. Thank you for taking the time to leave positive feedback. Impulsive car buying results in bad choices every time. Never buy a vehicle without knowing your research. When I'm on the lot I don't allow the salesperson to show me vehicles I haven't researched and never intend to buy. Also be aware of when the extended factory warranty expires. If you purchase a vehicle just out of warranty it is less likely to have known mechanical issues.
You've got lots of great videos with a ton of great advice. Its been very helpful while looking at some used trucks im looking to buy. Keep up the great work. Thanks for working hard to get all this information out to us
Thank you. Definitely be careful buying a used truck right now as prices are very high. I cover the latest price trends for March in this video: ua-cam.com/video/Wr3te6rqKEE/v-deo.html
Hey Manny, is it a big risk for me not to see the car in person? I'm considering buying a car online and out of state. I live in Cali and the car is in WA. Essentially, if I bought it, it would be shipped over. I could technically fly over for a day to check it out and test drive it if I chose to...
timtimzi ni There are risks. The biggest is the loss of your travel time and the cost of travel. But in general no I wouldn’t consider this a big risk IF the dealer has a good reputation. Read their reviews, this will tell you what you need to know about them selling bad cars. I’ve sold a few cars out of state sight unseen without an issue. I once actually drove a car to a man several hundred miles away so he would buy it and drove his trade in back. Everything was agreed to in advance. He just had to sign the paperwork after a test drive when I got there. You ultimately have the right of refusal if you get there and the car doesn’t meet expectations. I’d ask for a live video tour of the car before you go (through FaceTime, Instagram, or other applications). Let them know you won’t be buying if anything minor isn’t disclosed and identified in the video.
Thank you. I appreciate your feedback. As of the moment I only have this on my blog (notwaitingtolive.com) and my UA-cam channel (ua-cam.com/users/notwaitingtolive) I've been working on creating more car content and getting it together on my blog. Once I get that in order I'll branch out to the other platforms.
I'm glad you found this information useful. Now you know for next time. Thank you for leaving feedback. I appreciate you checking out the other videos on my channel as well.
Generally no. That was not something I ever experienced at the reputable dealer I worked for. But I think it's quite possible, especially for questionable lots with a bad reputation or private sellers where all bets are off. But for less than $25 you can buy an obdii scanner to tell if the check engine light was cleared amzn.to/34YxXZ6. Alternatively you can start up and stop the car several times during your inspection/test drive until the car eventually forces the check light on.

What if I want a car from Florida and I live in California
Generally, will a used car dealership clear the check engine light before selling? or is this not going to happen realistically?

Vote Trump. Go on now.
I think "Making sure the person selling the car has a title in hand" should be number one, along with asking "How long have you owned the vehicle?"
I agree with you. That's good advice.
