    I just purchased my first car some days ago. 1965 Mustang, deep red. It's got some chips in the paint and a few rust spots in easy to repair areas, but not too bad. What really sold me though was that the owner explained that a few years back, the venerable old 289 tore itself apart. He decided it was time for some fun, so he replaced it with a 302, Holly 4-barrel carburator, and edelbrock intake manifolds.

    That's awesome man. The only reason I comment for this video is because I have a 96 F150 with a 5.0L V8 that I bought from a guy in Wentzville Missouri for $3, 300 and it runs and drives and it has about 200, 000 miles on it.

    I owned a 1979 5.7 ltr Chevy Blazer 4x4 while living and working in Oman! If anything went kaput I had two Sri Lankan mechanics who'd come over armed with only a Screwdriver and a Pair of Pliers! They could repair just about anything that didn't need spares. They could also get under the bonnet (hood) and I could close it over them lol!

    I am shocked at how rusty the under side was. Wouldn't it be great to get it media blasted and painted to preserve the car. It makes me realize how lucky I am to have a mustang from texas with absolutely no rust. Great install but with endless money most folks couldn't afford the whole shebang. Mine has a real K Code engine with the cobra intake and lemans style holley. It screams with just a .487 lift isky cam(flat tappet). I can get into trouble easily with mine. Keep up the good work and turn the fan around,LOL

    I thought it was a great video right down to the items that people don't think about. If I have any criticisms it"s a little long< need more power tools(air or electric), wouldn't hurt to have a second set of hands to show that it isn't always as easy as in the video and the reality of the enviroment most people deal with isn't as clean as in video you have produced.Otherwise it rocks! Have an 88 Cougar XR7 myself and this gives me many bad thoughts. If I wasn't racing dragbikes I might take on a project like this. Thanks Ford racing and CJ Pony Parts. I'm sold!

    Fan is backwards, throttle link is going to bind that way (needs a straight pull), crimp wiring connectors argh. Also I was wondering about the drive line alignment. Top loaders had the shift lever to the left of the output shaft. Pushing the top, centered shift of the tremic over to the hole mis-aligns the drive line.

    Question about setting timing - When you started the engine the fan seemed to turn clockwise from the camera's perspective. However, you spun the fan counter-clockwise to feel the "pop" from the compression strock and then top dead center. Shouldn't you turn it clockwise? Sorry if this is a dumb questions... Also, I've seen people use a timing light. How come this wasn't done? Thank you for the help!

    What did you guys do about the timing marker and the passenger side water pump outlet? I'm in the middle of this swap and found this issue trying to bolt the water pump on. Also is the hood clearance issue fixable with a different air cleaner set up? I really don't feel like swapping intakes after paying the money for a dressed motor.

    • @Zerogivengarage
      @Zerogivengarage 10 років тому

      We got the motor to top dead center and marked the pulley so we could time it from the side. We did not try a drop air cleaner so I cannot say if that would do the trick or not.

    Bill, I have a question for you. I am hoping to make this very change in the near future. You mentioned that the engine is too high for a stock hood...due to intake manifold I think you said. Is there a different intake that will work and allow me to keep my original stock hood? Any help would really be appreciated. this is a great video and has been very helpful! Thank you for your time.

      Getting rid of the air gap intake for a stock height 4 barrel intake like the Performer or Performer RPM will allow fitment under a stock hood.

  • @machone6766
    @machone6766 10 років тому +1

    Hi Bill great video you guys rock but question ..I notice you didn't use gasket sealer on the thermostat or thread sealer also the same on the water pump. To go to all the trouble of fitting a new engine I personally would use gasket sealer so nothing leaks was there a reason you didn't use sealers?

    • @Zerogivengarage
      @Zerogivengarage 10 років тому +5

      I haven't had any issues with the thermostats since I glue the gasket to the housing. A lot of leaks seem to come from the gasket moving so it doesn't seal 100%. Obviously on a job this size there are lots of different ways to handle certain aspects of the install.

    Perfect timing! I've been researching this swap for a few months now for our 64.5 and this video answered a few remaining questions I had as well as helped to finish my shopping list so I don't have to keep stopping when I run into those little gotchas. I'm still trying to decide on a pulley set up. The 3 bolt dampner to run the stock pulleys is almost as much as the March kit. I have a Eaton PS pump and not sure if I can mix and match the under drive pulleys with the Eaton or not. Do you have a part number for the dipstick and tube and Holley fuel line adapter?

      You can add subframe connectors to make the car stronger, I would suggest it on any performance build but there is no limitation for HP on the stock setup. Overtime if you are racing the car it can start to twist.

      +Durham Porsche I wish there can be a Coyote swap for the 92-96 F150's.

      +Durham Porsche Right thanks man. The reason I ask is because my dad wants me to save up for an engine that gets around 20 mpg.

      +Durham Porsche Alright man thank very much I'll let my dad know about it when I got enough money saved up for an engine swap.

    The fan was installed backwards?

      WJGRants and Justin Yes you caught me, we were trying to get this done before the SEMA show and the footage was already shot with the fan installed backwards. What can I say? I make mistakes too lol We actually had a bet on how fast someone would notice.

      Bill Tumas Lol i was just looking at it for a good 5 min straight thinking in my head that can't be right...trying to think about the direction the engine was turning lol threw me for a loop! Great video though, I love watching these install videos if for nothing more than to gain knowledge for future projects.

      Justin LaNoue I turned the key and it fired on the first attempt and I was done. One of the other guys walked by and said the fan didn't look right and I did a double check and sure enough.....oops lol It's fixed now We thought about a reshoot but didn't want to wait until after SEMA so we left it figuring someone would see it eventually, turns out it was immediately :)

      Bill Tumas it happens to the best of us lol I installed a fan shroud upside down in a van once. And the amazing thing was that it actually bolted on.

    I kind of prefer the finned with black finish valve covers.

    Wow!! The flex fan is on backwards and you spun the engine the wrong way. Those ford small blocks spin clockwise.

    • @digiroad
      @digiroad 7 років тому

      Exactly! You're 100% right! He put the Flex a Lite Fan on backwards. Facing the engine, it spins clockwise on these small blocks. Should have noticed that. The Boss will!

    • @Mike_Neukam
      @Mike_Neukam 6 років тому

      You generally don't want to spin the engine backwards because it runs the oil pump backward and can lose prime. The distributor wasn't in the engine at the time, so the oil pump didn't spin. No harm done.

      Bill Tumas was there a break in process done not on camera? Were the valves already adjusted properly? What headers did you use? And one more question did you use the same motor mounts or did you have to get a different style than stock?
