Even before I started fixing my bike the same problem you have, I already feel that this is the best demonstration video I’ve ever seen in UA-cam regarding the DIY project for any bike, thank you.
Thank You for posting your vids. Your attention to detail and work flow speaks volumes. Im working in my first fxsb. I cant express how valuable your vids are in my learning to work on my bike. Please take care.
I have a 1983 FXDG that I love to ride and tinker with. More tinker than ride most of the time. I binge watched your shovelhead disassembly and rebuild series and wanted you to know that I enjoyed it immensely. The way you described and performed things in layman terms referring to the HD spec’s when necessary was most instructional and informative. I learned a great deal for the series. It was also well done how on occasion you injected humor into the segments. Keep up the good work an keep producing shovelhead vid at each opportunity! Thanks again, Lars.
Thanks for the video. I'm refurbishing my 1980 Shovelhead wideglide, and I too need to replace the ball. Since I plan to remove the oil pump and disassemble it, I will play extra attention to the spring and ball. Wayne out West (metro Denver)
I had the problem before my rebuild. I took the pump off did the tap tap and fine valve grind with a new ball epoxied on a dowel on the seat...will know in a few weeks how it worked out...fun fun lol
Loved the video, I oreder the kit but was.waiting to replace it. So now I will thanks to you. I do have one.important question not.related to the check valve. I have drag pipe on my 76 FLH shovelhead, they look like yours. My problem is I cannot find the the rear mounting bracket for the front pipe. Can you send my a picture of the rear bracket you have for the front pipe, and also tell me where to purchase it.
Thanks for the info. I see your pressure gauge. Does it read the right pressure like around 20-30lb when rolling? Also, there is a vent hose from the case down where you are working on my S&S evo engine that goes to atmosphere. It seems to leak a lot. Can the check ball be causing that also? I haven't owned it long. 2001 Evo style Indian chief S&S motor. Anyway, I will change the check ball like you did anyway and can I vent that line to a filter going up instead of down to keep the oil from going out on the ground? I hope you know what I mean. Anyway, I am a Twin cam guy until now. Thanks a lot. Hard to find the info about this. Oh yeah, oil comes out of the oil cap a little also when riding. Not much.
Such a tremendous help. Thank you so much. Just to clarify, the tapping of the ball was with the old one and you did so to insure good seating before putting in the new one?
Great video!! I have a question, will a bass oil sending unit cause the breather to puke oil when riding? It’s not a shovel, but this happened to my 02 Road King. No mechanic that I have found, knows why. I was running around 85mph and it suddenly started smoking bad because the oil blew out the breather and hit the pipes.
In all fairness, the breather hose was never meant to be routed under the bike. It was designed to lead upward to the aircleaner. In a properly maintained engine, the crankcase will vent slightly pressurized air upward but gravity will keep the oil where it belongs - off of the rear tire ! Just remember, Shit runs downhill and so does oil 😅

You're Welcome.
Absolutely the best video on these dang burping pumps!!! Tank you for the time and effort in making this.
You’re welcome, glad it helped.
I'll have to salute HD for this magnificent design.

I’m glad you're finding them useful.
My "new", to me, '77 marked its place in the garage yesterday. Good video, seems like a simple fix. Thanks.

Thanks for this, I'm having the same issue with 76 FLH. One thing though, the engine was rebuilt and a new oil pump was put on.

Thank you for the video. Did this to my 87 FXRP and made a huge difference. Super happy now.
Thanks. My 84’ shovel has been doing exactly this, including urinating oil through that hose onto the ground when parked.
A common issue.... People assume its normal.
What a superb, detailed and well produced tutorial!

Thank you!
Thank you for this video as I currently own many pans , shovels, and evos ….one of them is always puking oil on my garage floor…😅
Super helpful video! Thanks gonna replace mine this week. Had no idea why my shov was just pissing oil out of the breather
Like I said thank you, working on my step sons 73 trouble head. Shovelhead. LOL
You are good, brother. Excellent, informative work
Glad you enjoyed it.
I’m having same issue on anew build thanks for posting
Glad I could help

Great info! Same issue on my 91 evo FLHS. Thanks!
You're welcome!

This is available as an installation video in my 34 part series when I re-install the exhaust around part 29
Well done, man!
Thanks.
Super helpful!
Glad to Hear it.
Just picked up my 1984 FLHS Electra Glide Sport. Hadn't been started for 10 weeks... Puked oil into the airbox . A lot! 🤦♂️
Ace hardware near me sells the 3/8" steel balls for 69 cents. If in doubt, replace it!

No, I tapped with a brand new one… then I threw that one away and used another new one as the final check valve ball.
Hi mine is leakimg oil from carburetor.... do you know wat could be the reason?

This is exactly what my 98 is doing to me right now can't fund the issue
Nice job
Thanks!
My shovelhead is puking oil from the crankhouse breather when engine is turned off, somebody know whats wrong?
Good video
If your engine is huffing that much air, it is a sign of an improperly timed or shimmed breather gear or blow-by caused by leaking piston rings.
Why do a rebuild and not overhaul the oil pump..seems the most important bit but the most over looked but as well
In all fairness, the breather hose was never meant to be routed under the bike.

I have a 61 pan head that was puking oil , fixed it by flushing engine with diesel oil .
Switch to an S&S oil pump, problem solved.
Nope nope nope nope
@@delorean1 Why not?
@@tomconte1765 I've seen S&S pumps leak as well. Doing this cured that
