Bugenhagen and Alsruhe is a very interesting idea. I wonder if they'd click. A couple of Hard-Chargers there. Bugenhagen follows that unique Program that's like the opposite of Brian's Giant sets. Two different types of intensity. Bugenhagen is a wannabe Rock Star. Will Brian is a total Door-Kicker. Plus, Bugenhagen is known for lifting by himself while Brian places high value on the Team Atmosphere at NeverState. Still, there'd be a big audience for that meetup. Who knows, with Bugenhagen's wrestling career getting hot, but maybe with Juji's help it can happen sometime in the Future.

Despsite liking or not liking the music, you can see a distinct intensity that still exists in your workout that does NOT match at all. Nice choice. Watching your battle ropes to it is hilarious!
Also, on the topic of giant sets, a seasoned strongman at my gym caught the tail end of my workout this week and said "where did you learn giant sets?" He nodded in approval when I said "Brian Alsruhe." Thought you might like to know!

Hi Brian, I'm a long time follower and first-time commenter but I'm feeling a little at a loss here and almost desperate. I'm 38 and have been in and out of the gym since my early twenty's but never took true training seriously until I had to have an ACL reconstruction (left knee) done in November of 2014. Pretty much got tired of everyone telling me I was too old to be lifting heavy after the surgery though lifting had nothing to do with the injury. Then I had to get an AC joint issue and labrum tear in the right shoulder fixed in November of 2016. So for almost 4 years, I've been training more focused than ever with no major setbacks other than the stated and everything was going good until last September at my first ever powerlifting push/pull meet I tore my right hamstring attempting a 650lbs pull. I had just pulled 585lbs and then 620lbs with no trouble at all. I let it heal and did blood work for three weeks and then tweaked it again, but not nearly as bad and then I slowly built things back up and had my squat back up to a 550lbs free squat and a 550lbs box squat below parallel with no pain or issues at all. Then last month I tore my left hamstring doing a Romanian deadlift variation. I worked it back up over the last month and found I can squat with little or no pain. So earlier last week I was able to squat 455lbs X3 then 405lbs for 5X5 with no pain. So later in the week, I thought I'd try some light 50% of 1RM deadlifts and just pull them progressively faster. The second set of three the left hamstring popped again... It isn't as bad this time, but I don't know if you have had any experience with hamstring issues or if any of your athletes have, but I'm getting older and running out of time or least that's the urgency with this. I just don't understand what's going on, I warm-up, I do active stretching and loosen everything up and since the first tear, I've been doing even more mobility work than ever. The Deadlift is my favorite thing, so I'm really bummed here. I'm gonna take time off deadlifts and hopefully build a better bench, strict overhead press, and squat in the meantime, but I'm not sure how to begin to bulletproof my hamstrings when the best movement for them seems to keep injuring them. I'm beyond frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated, but I also understand if you don't have time to respond to such a long request.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial

You remember when Dave Tate took a while off and did some bodybuilding just to let his body heal. And then he could go back to moving big weights? I would do the same man. Give your body something else to focus on and build up the muscle in a different way. then go back.

Hi Brian what do you think about high reps deadlift?? I see many people in my gym on their top sets doing high reps DL on heavy percentage. But for me I dont like doing reps for more than 8 reps

Thanks to you Brian, since following your linear progression program and doing giant sets, i find bodybuilding "bro" workout a little boring and never gone back to it.

Could the Vomiting be your Endocrine System? Have you relieved the stress from your Psoas muscle? I imagine it's capitulated by your intense training, highly stressful previous job, and spinal fracture injuries. It's a genuine and serious thing. Something which no doctor can test for. Take a look at David Goggins and his stretching story with Joe Rogan. It could be the change you've been looking for. (Check out a Pso-Rite as well!)

How do you train when you are having a cold?
I have heard Brian Shaw saying he will just do whats possible for him or skipping the workout to the next day. Have you ever had issues with myokarditis? I am still having a cold and changed my giant-/supersets to single sets with 3 minutes of rest between each set. Felt like an eternity.
