As a scuba diver, we also would study the surf patterns when making a dive from the beach. It was critical on making safe entries and exits out of the water. Riptides could give you a nice ride out to deeper water, but made exiting the water much harder or dangerous.
5:16 If you see square waves like these stay out of the water. Do not wade. That is an indication of very dangerous tide conditions. Also small boats/kayaks especially those without great stability can be easily capitalized in those conditions. Stay safe.
This was a great video. As a guy from Iowa with zero surf fishing experience, I found this to be a great basic explanation of some typical beach contours. Well done. 👍
I have tried to explain this to people for years and I guess that they just don't see it. You are absolutely correct about never getting wet and the water being dangerous. I have seen some Big Ass Sharks in 2ft of water!
Hey man I was srf a year and a half ago I saw this video for the first time....I didn't understand it.... However I've been surf fishing more in the last couple months.... I saw this video and it made so much more sense... Thanks
Good explanation...went today with my family and kids.. and I must say this place carrys..strong energys..must be a lot of people has die..from back decades..and recently... great video stay safe
Great video. I now understand the terminology and can see from the aerial view what you’re talking about. How can you see these fishing spots from the ground if you don’t have a drone?
Great info! My father taught me about the GUT and looking for structure. He'd walk by other fishermen til he saw the right place!. Pull in fish until the seagulls (other fishermen) swarmed us. Then move...and do it again!
Love your videos thanks for the tips started to read the sea were holes the break ,it's so true .got my kids involved and now they are loving it catching mullets
Dude is a legend! thank you for educating video man i love how you cruise on that beach with your all-track! i would die to be in that car driving like that.
Thanks the content dude. I’ve been fishing fresh all my life, but since moving to Houston have wanted to learn more about how to fish salt. Your videos have been super helpful!
I was bowled over by your video! You did a great job of explaining the various structures and composition of the beach and the drone shots were extremely helpful. Count me in as a new sub!
good morning, very good your explanation where to find the fish. I always fished a lot, most of the time I fished a lot on Copacabana beach in Rio Rio de Janeiro (I think you might know or hear about it) I fished a lot in the afternoon or at night and caught a lot of porridge, and a delicious fish. unfortunately I was robbed and my equipment is in the car☹️. But I hope that as soon as possible I can buy my fishing equipment. Fishing is a therapy, while you wait for the fish to bite, you relax and think about life lol. I'll stay here and I'll follow you on your videos.🐟🐟🎣💪🤝👍.
Great analysis. Out GA way, most of our Islands are undeveloped and have no access to them except by boat. So we anchor off the surfline and cast inwards at the inlets and beaches. We call it reverse surf fishing. Your description of the shore dynamic is accurate.
He explained how to detect cuts and holes from eye level, there will be less breaking waves in a section. If the waves seem to be breaking more often along one stretch of bar/submerged bar that is a particular surf break so to speak and you should be able to discern the lack thereof. You might find deeper cuts next to or at either end of that breaking surf zone. Often times if you study the way the water moves along any area of breakers, you may visibly notice the water moving away from shore, that's a channel, often times that channel presents what they call a rip current. For predator fish, that's a supermarket.
Very informative. I just got into Surf fishing so this is awesome info. It’s just that how do you see these things when you’re standing on a beach do you have to have a drone to find these areas? Can you see them I am 5 foot six would I see them from the shore?🤔
Just came across your channel and have been watching your other videos also. Very informative and instructional, awesome footage, and no B.S... liked and subscribed! Thank you! -Steve-
Good video I live close to Surfside beach I can learn a lot from this video and help me on my surf game I have hell fishingbthe surf for being uneducated as to what to look for
Def right about big fish being in the wade gut sometimes. Was at Galveston east beach when a school a jacks made a run down the beach just pass the 1st sandbar. I actually got a run before my line snapped lol smh. Later found out they were being chased by a 12 foot hammerhead who was cruising in the wade gut who was caught just before they passed by.
Excellent video! Now I can be lazy when people ask me how I read beaches when I'm in Florida and simply link thia video to get back and fish lmao. Back of guts is always my favorite spot for big bull reds.
I like this guys usage of "Elite AF"
Lmao thanks!!

Thanks! Sometimes I forget to really study the beach structure because I just want to start casting. It really takes discipline and patience.
This is hands down the best video on reading the surf. Excellent job
Good video! I agree that reading the beaches as you suggest is really critical to optimizing your time on the beach. Thank you!
Awesome tips thanks 😊
Much love from New Zealand 🇳🇿❤

WOW moved to Florida 4 years ago from Tennessee and love to fish and had no idea about this. Salt water is so different from where I come from.

Aerial view adds a dynamic that makes this much more understandable than most other vids shot at eye level. Great job.. just landed one more SUB
Good info overall, my preference is behind the bar usually but I'll start looking more at the cuts now.
Good Video. You still gotta hold that newborn boy with the Redfish pose Papa! 😉
