Tyson whined about Holyfield using his head. This fight just like every other he uses his head and elbows as weapons, especially once he starts getting hit.
Strange, Buster had all the attributes to be seriously a great fighter - Height, natural heavy, Acumen, jab, speed, footwork, right hand power, punch portfolio, balance - I mean on this night he was perfect. He just didn’t have the mentality to live like a professional athlete… something missing but in this night I would give him a shot against any heavyweight in history, he was beautiful
Ill bet kevin rooney was sitting home shaking his head yelling at the tv mike use the 5 and 7 move your head plus kevin had a gambling problem he probably put every thing he had on mike that night!!
Here there are, the best heavy fight of all times: 1). Ali - Foreman , Zaire 1974 2). Marciano- Walcott, Phill 1952 3). Ali- Frazier, Manila 1975 4). Douglas- Tyson, Tokyo 1990. 5) Clay- Liston. Miami 1.964.
Pfft BS! You just name this one and a few main media named classics. Pic one of the Bowe/Holyfield trilogy or prob 2, 3. AlivsFrazier is way more of superior boxing, Foreman was just punching wide and sloppy and Ali let him tiring out. Also Lewis/Holyfield was hard and good fighting
Back in the day people had boxing fight parties , most of the Tyson ones were short parties , I remember the night of this fight nobody was going to the fight party , I said I dont know he 's about due to get beat .... well he went down that night , then went to jail.
Lost in all this is how horrible Jim Lampley's call is. The guy is so obviously in love with Tyson and fawning all over him while looking forward to Douglas failing. And the whole "loosey-goosey" comment is flat out embarrassing. Nevertheless, love that Tyson lost here yet am still amazed at how barbaric boxing is and what a disgrace it is that humans haven't outgrown such an obviously corrupt and immoral "sport".
I distinctly remember after the nba allstar game in 1990, after commercial, the commentator (don't remember who) said something to the effect of , " If you thought this was amazing, wait'll you hear this. Mike Tyson has been knocked out." It was the most unreal, just weird thing to hear. Mike Tyson was literally thought of as invincible. It was also late at night, which added to the weirdness.
I won't take anything away from Buster Douglas, but you can tell Tyson did not have that killer look at all, all of the other fights he fought, he would basically win the fight before they started during the introductions....Tyson was not in shape, he came in like who cares! Just my two cents...and I did watch this fight in 1990 when i was in the Phillippines
Even when Mike was in his so called prime. I guess the 80s before Rooney got fired, he had a problem with taller fighters with reach. He’d win but the fight wouldn’t be no first round knockout.
I lost $50 on this fight.I never bet on Tyson again.I was in shock,he didn't train much for Douglas. He underestimated the man and got knocked out, plain and simple.
at about 0530 on sunday morning february 11th 1990 there was a handwritten note in our ft knox chow hall( basic training) that mike tyson lost. we were not allowed to talk... but GD!!!
He couldn't because Don King had him tied up with traveling state to state, flying from city to city all across the USA for months to talk with his lawyers. Buster was drained and finally only had about 5 or 6 weeks to suddenly train and get in shape for Holyfield. good story, sounds super fake and attention seeking, but cool story bro!!
Mike had lost his eye of the tiger in this fight
Despite this lose, Mike Tyson is still the greatest boxer of all time if you watched all his fights
Su questo non c'è dubbio.
Holly Field
Mike is one of the greatest
Without a doubt my favorite Tyson fight
Mike gets all the glory and respect in the end, but never knew love. It was sad seeing him so desperate to get up, Cus turned him into a machine and Mike understood it as love.
Most boxers are trained to get up
@@AnthonyRobinson-dc3pq.Well douglas in his next fight stayed down in rd 3..even took his mouthpiece out
It was all of the above Mike was on a fast track to hell cus and boxing saved Tyson made him rich famous and legendary he beat the odds and became somebody cudos to Mr Mike Tyson ☝️😃
@@chincheck739 yes Don king tied buster up in court trying to get the title back on some bs long count

Best fight I have ever seen! It had everything, skill, courage, patience and an over confident champion knocked off his throne.

Tyson was robbed! buster went down, that was a 14count!
@@asintonic13
This was Buster''s fight from the start, counts or not.
Exactly. People get too tied up on counts and bullshit. Buster was the better man that night and beat Mike up bad
Bullshit, if the Ref was a Pro, things would've been different good or bad for Mike.
Buster's mom died and he said he was fighting for her, never underestimate that.
@@nathanielgathing659 nothing could have saved Mike except a lot more preparation.
The comments section is full of Tyson fanboys making excuses for his loss . What a shame
Not excuses but a fact That from opening Bell mike was completely flat! HE showed none of skills, stationary target, no hand speed, 1 punch at a time, no footwork..Anyone who seen all his fights will tell you
The fact that he fulfilled his promise to his mom is amazing. He promised her mom that he would beat Mike Tyson before she passed away and dayum 👏🏼

Mike Tyson prime years were different he still could have been the most dominate heavyweight of all time you see Mike Tyson was all about skills when he was with cus but after that it was all about being an animal & conquerer along with aggression & bad lifestyle outside of boxing to wear the body doesn’t respond they way you want it to if Mike kept on polishing his skills history would be different
@@BoxOf0121 Tyson could never have the dominant type of career that Ali, Lennox Lewis, or Tyson Fury had. He was washed up even before he was 30. He never dominated the fighting world like the 3 mentioned here.
@@mts7274 lol tyson fury has not dominated at all
@@MrMov1es Tell me one top current heavyweight who has beaten Tyson Fury. I can tell you PLENTY of heavyweights who beat the crap out of Mike Tyson.
Underrated fight tbh, Douglas fought fantastically well.
How is it underrated? This fight is famous even among non fans.
The result is famous yes, however the actual fight itself was underrated imo.@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017
Douglas was at his best, but very clearly Tyson from opening bell was at his worst! No spring in legs. No hand speed, no combos, stood in front of Douglas and made Douglas look good! Tyson like a champ reaching for mouth piece while hurt, Douglas in rd 3 of next fight taking out mouth piece and quitting
Great fight, heart , determination, skill
MESSAGE TO THE YOUNG FIGHTER'S, REMEMBER YOUR TRAINER, AND CORNER MAN IS IMPORTANT.
Buster displayed the beauty of boxing the entire fight with his movement, use of the jab, his lion heart and by puting it all together. Just beautiful to watch his skills.
I can't believe he didn't get tired pushing out of the clinch so often in the later rounds. Tyson was just grabbing him and holding on for dear life, and allowing Douglas to push him off over and over.
I'm a big Tyson fan & he did lose.
Greatest fight by an underdog in boxing history
Mike must have partied all night couldn't throw combinations and bad defense happy for buster though 😊

See that guy on the right by the ropes holding the flag? He's the reason Tyson fell.
Douglas was just superb that night.

Seen this fight 20 times and Buster was counted out by the 10 count. He got up at 12 on my count every time since i saw it live in the ‘90s…Tyson got robbed! The ref dragged the hell out of the 7, 8, and 9 smh!!!
That wasn't a slow count i still think Tyson was the best ever
One of them
The most beautiful ass whooping of all time. I like how Douglas looked him directly in the eye after every round like, " What's up " ?
Tyson was partying with Bobby Brown until 5am. You can tell he's totally out of it.

I can clearly see tyson did not have his mind in this fight as he did in other fights earlier which caused him to lose in this fight.
To me this is the TIME THEY GAVE Mike the age pill he started going down 😢😢😢😢😢
Tyson looked so disengaged with all of it, especially when they would brake where there was no bounce in his step on the ready. If you loved Mike like we did back in the day when we witnessed this live then you would’ve felt just like me so sad and so much pain to watch him in this fight knowing that if Cuz was there.... well let’s just say we still love you Mike.

Tyson whined about Holyfield using his head. This fight just like every other he uses his head and elbows as weapons, especially once he starts getting hit.
Yep. Tyson depends on that uppercut. Bout all he had or will ever have. Not a hatter, just it is,is what it is.
He used the clinch too.
Holyfield was notorious for headbutting tie ups.
Preparation wins bouts. Tyson was unprepared. Douglas was fighting for his dead Mom.
Tyson wasnt old to continue peekaboo. It is a very great boxing style.
The bell saved Buster but he was better that day
True
In my town in Africa I was the only Douglas supporter and after the fight I ran away. Couldn't risk celebrating.
Standing in front of the iron mike within few rounds is a history..
Iron Mike proved to me that .there isnt anybody knocked flat . Buster was the better fighter that day .
Here there are, the best heavy fight of all times:
1). Ali - Foreman , Zaire 1974
2). Marciano- Walcott, Phill 1952
3). Ali- Frazier, Manila 1975
Rocky VS Drago -1985 👍
Good list. This fight is one of my favs. I saw it live and always rooted against Tyson.
Depends on how you see the "best" I thought lyle vs foreman was a pretty entertaining one,Holmes vs Norton, Holmes vs Mercer as well.
@@olivermeier2949 that's right!. Even Quarry vs Norton was a Very good one!
It's clear Mike Tyson was probably sniffing coke and partying the whole week prior.. Mike Tyson was asleep the whole fight 😴
I distinctly remember after the nba allstar game in 1990, after commercial, the commentator (don't remember who) said something to the effect of , " If you thought this was amazing, wait'll you hear this. Mike Tyson has been knocked out."
It was the most unreal, just weird thing to hear.
Disengaged.
His muscles weren’t as pronounced as they were in other fights either. I agree with you completely.
I would take anything away from Tyson, but Douglas was just a better fighter.
Douglas, inteligente paciente y fuerte mentalmente.
Something made me pull this up and replay it. That stuff left jab was amazing
Even when Mike was in his so called prime. I guess the 80s before Rooney got fired, he had a problem with taller fighters with reach. He’d win but the fight wouldn’t be no first round knockout.
He was in His Prime until 1998.
At first you win a fight in your head and Tyson lost it way before the first punch was thrown.
He had a plan until Buster punched him hard and wasn't afraid.
Wow at last Tyson came down.Up up Douglas. For bringing Tyson down you are a hero.
Even this Tyson had way more headmovement, speed, and variety of attack compared to post-prison Mike.
Hah never realizer what a cool guy buster is. Not even jacked up just did his job and chillin. He was the better man that night.
His Mom died not too long before the fight and he said he was fighting for her.
Some of these comments been talk alot, why don't you step in the ring with Mike Tyson and Open your mouth
Never mess with a man who loved and lost his mother
Look how small tyson looks here compared to douglas.
Douglas has a lot of advantages still got knocked out first
Buster Jabs and uppercuts wanted all the smoke
At the time Douglas knocked Tyson out, this fight was scored a draw. No way were they going to let Tyson lose on a decision.
A draw would of been a travesty of justice. Douglas was clearly ahead by the 10th. Ive never considered that possibility.thanks.
There was no draw here, I think Mike won only 2 rounds b4 being kod
I lost $50 on this fight.I never bet on Tyson again.I was in shock,he didn't train much for Douglas. He underestimated the man and got knocked out, plain and simple.
Lmao nice lie, nobody would bet on Douglas..You were prob in your dads balls in 1990
at about 0530 on sunday morning february 11th 1990 there was a handwritten note in our ft knox chow hall( basic training) that mike tyson lost. we were not allowed to talk... but GD!!!
Shame Douglas didn't keep in shape when he fought Holyfield
He couldn't because Don King had him tied up with traveling state to state, flying from city to city all across the USA for months to talk with his lawyers. Buster was drained and finally only had about 5 or 6 weeks to suddenly train and get in shape for Holyfield. He was exhausted, mentally, physically, stressed out, jet lagged etc.etc. Don King is a POS con man and always was.
He would have still lost
