I don't know, ya'know. I love Tyson but it was kind of a split personality thing when fighting. Sometimes opponents would be down on one knee and he would still want to punch their head off. There was this interview with Gus D'Amato and he told that Mike was like a machine. He needed to train hard and regularly for him to maintain that special technique. Mike couldn't have long periods off. That's why he arranged so many close fights. That's also why, after Gus 'death, Mike started slacking (no training, drugs, lavish lifestyle etc.) and his style began to deteriorate.

@@michaelmurphy1127 Tyson peaked around the time he KO’d Larry Holmes. From that point onwards, he stopped training with Kevin Rooney (who is widely credited with helping him perfect his craft after Cus D’Amato’s death) and trained with an entirely new camp that was blamed for Tyson’s decline in head movement and defense. His first loss against Buster Douglas occurred after he partied all night with “dozens of maids” (not to take any credit away from the excellent resolve of Douglas). He went to prison for three years during a time where he could have reached his peak potential. It is an amazement that despite all of these circumstances, he is widely credited as having the best speed and power of any boxer of all time. Whether he dropped off too early or not, he was a genetic freak with tons of potential and definitely worthy of being one of the best (if not the best) boxers of all time.

@@mklein1 Potential yes. One of the best? not remotely close. You only have to look at the first fight with Bruno. A not particularly hard left hook had him all over the place. From that moment I knew he would struggle against a puncher who was not scared of him. Bruno was and didn't follow it up. Foreman would have demolished him. The endless excuses are boring. Tommy Morrison could have been the best of all time if, instead of drinking, taking drugs and partying before fights, he actually trained. But he didn't. It is the mental strength to overcome adversity that makes a great. Another point is that every boxer looks incredible beating up people, it's a different story when thy start hitting back. Look how he struggled with Tucker.

Many overlook a key fact about Mike Tyson's career: despite being shorter with a shorter reach in every heavyweight bout, he wielded significant advantages in boxing against all odds. Typically, height and reach favor the taller and longer fighter, granting them the ability to control the fight with jabs and maintain distance. Yet, Tyson defied these odds, consistently maneuvering inside longer reaches to dictate the pace and control of his fights. This feat parallels a point guard consistently posting up and dominating power forwards and centers in the paint all game long, a feat that's typically challenging but appeared effortless for Tyson. This little talked about fact only enhanced his greatness
