Keys points to remember
1. Only hotspot on android smart phones without password, can not be done with iPhones
2. Works on Gen 4 & 5 DS games Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black, White, Black2, White2

I remember being over the moon hearing about this "hack" for the first time...I missed out on all the events as a kid because I had no idea they even existed (didn't have unrestricted access to the internet like I do now), so being able to access them all these years later is such a treat!
I tried this in Black and was so happy it actually worked. Pretty fun day, that was.
I recently started a living dex a few months ago. As I was working on it, I came to the realization that there would be Pokemon I just wouldn't be able to get. Now with this video, I can complete all up through Gen 4 and finally get Arceus, Darkrai, Shaymin and Deoxys. Thank you so much!
Arceus, shaymin, and darkrai can be obtained in pokemon legends arceus legitimately. And deoxys can be obtained in pokemon oras in the post-game
If you have a copy of Diamond/Pearl you can obtain Arceus Darkrai and shaymin through a running glitch there’s multiple videos on UA-cam
If I'm not mistaken, you can still get a Pokedex completion certificate w/o seeing or obtaining any of the "mystery gift" Pokémon

Recent update still work I just wanted to let people know it just takes time and patience to do it is all, hope this helps for more in the future as so glad to get some the old events i went to in person but long lost ago from losing my copy or tarded em away only have on from those days and it was the Shiny Enti and that i am so happy to still have.

16th August 2024 It still works using a 3ds and a HeartGold ROM running with Twilight Menu++, however, I have to use the dns on the pinned comment instead of the one shown in the video.
Now I need to check if I can get the event Arceus on Diamond/Pearl and use some pc program to move that Arceus from Diamond to Heartgold, but I'm confident it'll work too on Diamond.
This would’ve been a crazy thing to do back in 2016 when I was a hard core Pokémon player but nowadays I haven’t touched Pokémon in a while 🙁

So, I just did this on my own wifi and not a hot spot, and it seems to have worked perfectly.
All I did differently was set up a guest wifi and bam, got me a shiny entei~

did you do that on an iPhone?
Guest wifi with no password works too. Just remember to shut it off when you're done so you don't get unwanted guests on it. How you do it depends on your router -- some support it, some don't, and different routers put the option different places so read the online manual for yours.
Guys keep in mind that you can also online battle and trade using this method
It just doesn't support WPA passwords. WEP is fine, but there's no reason why you'd have a modern router on WEP except for backwards compatibility.
Came here to comment exactly this. This limitation is not present in Gen V games and onward, however.
And that's the type of thing I was looking for. I legitimately couldn't remember the exact type of encryption it used.

@@Mobin92 yeah but my unsecured hotspot doesn't work anyways 😭. It gives me error 51300. It works on b/w since they support newer connections protocols but from gen 4 backwards, my unsecured hotspot doesn't work, giving the following error code

The original DS and DS Lite only support WEP encryption on WiFi. Most modern routers are using WPA2. You need to use a DSi or 3DS if you want to connect to a modern router without having to mess with the settings.
No. Even if you use a DSi or 3DS, the games themselves do not recognize WPA2 or newer protocols. Only since Black/White that it´s possible.

Yeah but only on dsi enhanced games such as b/w. I tried using my unsecured hotspot for heart gold and doesn't work, it gives me this error 51300 which is network problems
And with this trick you can also trade and battle online, the community is awsome
For those who have samsung 20s or up go to your settings go to connections then press mobile networks select network mode change it to 2G then go to your hotspot take the password off then connect to ds internet make sure you have your primary DNS 164,132,44,106 and secondary 0000 then you should be connected
And also it works with all nintendo DSs

Thank you for this, I honestly had no idea that the shiny legendary beasts existed before I stumbled across your video and now I have some very cool Pokemon. I had a thought though and wondered if you or anyone else might know the answer, would it be safe to transfer them to Home? They have an encounter date years after the event officially happened.
The DS internal clock has always been able to be manipulated. It shouldn't be an issue as long as the Pokemon have the correct flags which I'd imagine they would.
This also works for Gen 5 for those who dont know

I cane here to comment the same thing. When I try to receive a gift the thing in the corner will show full bars for a few seconds and then default back to 0 bars and give me an error. Are you trying it on original DS or 3DS?

Okay, as of today, 07/07/2023 it does still work, even on a Nintendo 3DS. If it doesnt work for You that means tiu just have to use the other sets of numbers anf IT WILL WORK. Even after the eShop closing it will work! It made me cry knowing I could re-experience those events that made me so happy when I was younger, and you can do It too!

To my knowledge the event you get when doing this is random, so you will need a few tries until you manage to get every event available (you can find a list of every event online)

Yeah I mean, with my open hotspot, the Ds gives me error 51300 or something like that ends with 300.

if you are using a 3ds or 2ds, you xan use your own wifi(with password) and set up the primary dns stuff through settings. Makes it very easy… if you have either consol

This is because the DS only supported WEP WIFI security, which most routers these days either have disabled or removed as it's considered a compromised security method. Some routers let you enable it still, but it's usually not worth the hassle and security risk. Most Routers use a standard called WPA2 these days, or the upcoming WPA3.
i dont get why this works, it connects to your phone hotspot but then where does the gift come from. Like why is content suddenly unlocked in the game by just connecting to ur phone
A theory is that someone took the time to set up a server for us to be able to do this since these are impossible to obtain unless you use action replay or game shark
Just did it yesterday with my soul silver and Samsung s21 seems I got most of the same events being in Canada not sure though with arceus

It seems that Gen 4 Mystery Gift doesn't work anymore, I did it multiple tries with the hotspot but it seems it won't work. I keep getting the error code 52000.
Even if you change the DNS server, it's still won't work. The only thing it would work is you have a router that is old and has a low WEP which I don't have unless you have one.
So good luck if anything works.
You can try with a phone hotspot, especially on android

how did you connect to the internet? For some reason it's saying "access point not found" when trying to connect. My 3ds connection is fine but when I go in game and do It it doesn't work for some reason

i might need some help, when i connect my phones data (galaxy a30s - iliad) with identical wifi settings to those in the video the new 3ds xl connects for about 10 seconds and after that it disconnects again. ive tried restarting the process for 15 minutes but it didnt seem to get better.
My 2ds does the same thing, I'm wondering in this only works on original hardware?
I still have my copies of HeartGold and Pearl. Bought them for £10 each back in 2012. As I get it, event pokemon can't be transfered, so I'll try it later. Still need to transfer my shiny Phanpy - my very first not scripted shiny.

@@kreimsicle6456 Good to know. But that means I will have to shiny hunt Darkai, Arceus and hedgehog with 1/8192 chances to be shiny. Never did a hunt with such a low chance. Still haven't done Arceus in Brilliant Diamond where odds are better, so this hunt can be skipped in gen4. Missed Darkai event in remakes.
@@kreimsicle6456 One exception: Spiky Ear Pichu can't be transferred to anything other than HGSS. Like, you can't even trade it over to Platinum.
@@wSeeDw yo, that'd be a waste of time😮. I tried to shiny hunt on 3 different DS for 1 hour and got nothing. Not even a single shiny wild Pokémon in 5 different playthroughs of Gen 4/5 games.

I played HG almost 300 hours and Pearl like 60 and found only one shiny Phanpy during that time, and legendary shiny hunts in USUM with shiny charm sometimes lasted for 4 evenings. I think I'll just start a new game using RNG Reporter to find out my sicret trainer ID, and then use it to RNG abuse them to be shiny.

I tried this with my android Tablet and my mom's phone, they both resulted with the same issue. Error code 52200. It connects with the three bars and at the last minute it drops the connection and fails. I have both mobile hotspot connections with no password. Still, the issue occurs.
Not sure what's going on I'll need to check myself to see if I can find a solution 😕

You're very welcome, and yes, you do have to transfer the event shiny Pichu from Platinum to make the Spiky-Eared Pichu appear in HeartGold and SoulSilver. There's no other way to make this happen unfortunately.

Hey ! I have Pokemon HeartGold and would like to experience the Arceus event. Is it possible to unlock Arceus with a mystery gift or do we have to transfer it from another game such as Pokémon diamond (which would be a bummer as I do not have this game) ? Anyway, thanks for the video
Thank you for viewing & commenting on the video. Unfortunately, you have to use the mystery gift in Diamond, Pearl and/or Platinum to receive the special event Arceus to trigger the Arceus event in Heart Gold/Soul Silver.
My suggestion is check local pawn shops that sell electronics, you might be lucky to find one and possibly on the cheap. But remember to bring a DS/2DS/3DS with you to test the game before buying it, because most won't give you a refund once you walk out the shop. Best of luck 😎👍

One solution I recommend is buying a cheap unlocked android phone from a pawn shop or on Amazon and swap sim cards
If you have an iphone it won't work because you cannot remove your hotspot password. This can only work with an adroid so there you go.
Was able to get raikou and entei but it is hard, I keep getting the message about nintendo wifi neing discontinued.

If you have an android you can do it. I bought a cheap android just for this lol. But you need a SIM card in the phone I believe because I’m unable to do the mystery gift
Key Question: say you did this and it worked and you were to restart the game. Would you be able to do it again and receive the pokemon again or is it a one and done for good kind of thing? Also thanks for sharing this can't believe you can still get these after all this time.
This has been known for at least 3/4 years. That said, you can do it as many times you want. You won’t be able to get more than 1 of each event Pokémon per save file, but if you reset your game, you will be able to get everything again.
