Goose, there is nothing useless about the facts in these videos. Just the other week I was caught in the middle of a hostage situation in my local bank and I managed to placate the robbers by regaling them with obscure information about Mario Golf. By doing so, I believe I saved my life along with the lives of a dozen other bank customers and employees. Keep up the good work!
That genuinely sounds believable. I assume many men caught in the life of crime these days would be roughly our age, so regaling them with N64 facts might just be the humanizing trick it takes to get out of a sticky situation.
Nillew seems to be what we would call in northern Brazil a "bacabeiro", someone who lies or exagerates his feats to impress others but with no real proof
Wonder why is this a thing. Records without proof shouldn't even be on the leaderboards. Can I go there an claim that I have a 5000 Magikarp on Cave and my name will stay on top?
Anyone else remember how Blockbuster advertised they'd give you a free copy of the game if you beat it on their in-store display, but the display would reset to a blank save that would autostart at level 1 every ~20 minutes?
The one thing I found interesting was that a guy said to have done a score without photo proof on all the ones mentioned. I bet he also found the Mew in the truck in Pokemon Yellow Red and Blue 😂 Great video though!
How did that one leaderboard guy place top on category after category and each time he never had proof for it while also barely beating the next in line for the WR?
nillew seems to hold a lot of these records with no proof. for a game this old and optimized, photos should be mandatory to qualify for the leaderboards
yeah what is going on there lmao? for any other game I would understand but snap saves the photos and scores and you can access them any time... taking photos is too much to ask for a game about taking photos? :p
Me and my friends still occasionally gather round and try to beat each others high scores. Even though it's not _really_ a "multiplayer" game this is imo still one of the best irl couch games.
I have only ever played Pokemon Snap in the late 90's inside a floridian Blockbuster. I remember it was one of those systems attached to an early color printer, so you could get actual printouts of your snapshots; a 3x3 grid of pics on a paper the size of a normal photograph. I would love to allege that I still have mine but I vaguely remember tossing them during one move, thinking, "Nah, these aren't worth anything, I didn't even know how to play the game." And while that is true, it is channels with videos like these that make me think, very long, about the true "value" we hold on things like that. I know was right, they were probably terrible and I genuinely didn't know how to play the game. But for someone like yourself, finding some original Pokemon Snap Blockbuster printouts would be a surge of nostalgic joy, even if it's just as fleeting and temporary as my time spent in that Blockbuster. I have been beginning to compile all my old computer files into just a couple backup drives. I have taken an extreme liking to my old screenshot folders, from various games, at various points in time. I have Unreal Tournament screenshots from when I lived with my dad and the game ran at 400x300 so I could get at least a goldeneye framerate. I have ones from games I barely even remember having played, and ones from games that started from nearly nothing and become something immeasurably incredible, like Warframe, and Terraria. These nostalgic memories and silly factoids are indeed useless to have, right up until they become incredibly important. I think about that stupid piece of paper from blockbuster more than I ever thought I would have. I also think and wonder why you can't fully break everything in Bunker 2 and shoot out all the lights because some of the lights seem to respawn but not always? And you can't even shoot out all the lights in Silo, because some aren't lights at all. But somehow despite knowing that, I have only learned this year that a game I have spent 26 years with, you can open the silo ceiling by being unarmed. Keep goosin' off in these games. I think it helps keep creativity sharp and active, and the nostalgia makes it fun. It made me type an UNEXPECTEDLY LONG wall of text at one in the morning based around a game I have less than two hours total in.
I think that guy without photo proof is a bit sus... Also, a Mickey Speedway USA video would be nice considering that there's that new Disney racing game coming out.
15:33 "Idiot Bastard" is a very common Japanese insult. I believe it is a combination of the Cowboy Bebop saying as well as the Japanese saying "Baka yarō" which means idiot bastard. This saying is so popular even the characters that raps repeats it all the time in Naruto.
I'd love to see you talk about all those weird mario tennis cups. You know, the blockbuster cup, the ign cup, the game informer cup, etc. I never really understood them. Like how did those promotions work?
That's interesting. I'm not super familiar with Mario Tennis as a whole, and definitely not those cups. But I will look into it! It reminds me of these "codes" in Mario Golf which were for the "Hyrule Camp" summer events.
Me, my brother and my mom used to compete with one another in Pokemon Snap when the game first came out. To think years later people around the world are doing it now. I still have my copy and I might take a crack at it some day
This video was just what I needed. A tree fell on my home yesterday and absolutely destroyed it along with my game room. So no video game nights for awhile or anything. But videos like this keep me positive
I have no idea why but these are the best videos before going to sleep. Very relaxing and full of memories i guess. Mario Tennis videos would be neat !
It would be fun to figure out the origin of the shirt. Personally I think it is of east Asian origin. 95% chance it is referencing Cowboy Bebop (because of font of the first two words). Also I.B. is not a common insult in English, I think it might be a literal translation of 馬鹿野郎. I think it was probably procured from a street vendor in an Asian country.
Wonderful video as always! I don't know if this is your kind of thing, but it would be fun to see you accept a bunch of random or pre-selected Pokemon Snap pictures and guess what the score would be. Would be a fun way to show off your knowledge and also break down some of the mechanics in a fun way. Anyway, thanks for the new vid!
Genuinely super interesting video! I love Pokemon Snap but I think the only thing I knew was probably Ekans I've NEVER seen the Articuno Pikachu thing in my LIFE! That's nuts!
No way this hasn't been thought of, but why not test removing the limit of the time between pictures? Spam a picture of a pokemon to get every single frame, to even see if you can get a higher score.
Ekans' exclusion seems so weird to me. The models are pretty much the same as pokemon stadium's, and ekans looks fine in stadium, it's even a playable mini game character, so I don't know if it's animation was an issue The level it was in is savanna, and I don't know if that level was ever seriously meant to be in the game or if it was just a test area since it's so flat, but it doesn't make sense to be to cut the pokemon if the level was cut rather than just moving it to another level. I feel like ekans would be right at home on beach or river. It could replace the last meowth that the pidgey attack and slither away or strike depending on if the player intervenes. On river, maybe it could be chasing the poliwag out of the grass and into the river, but you could drive it away and photograph it later in the stage?
Yes, UA-cam Algorithm. This is EXACTLY the type of obscure, useless content I want. Thank you. 🎉 New subscriber here and I haven't even gotten into the facts yet 😂
I am loving these videos Goose! I love the N64 era so I am glad someone is keeping it alive! To give some suggestions or requests, could you consider making videos about some of the other more obscure N64 titles out there like the Bomberman ones, Mischief Makers, Quest, etc? There is so much out there to appreciate other then the Nintendo and Rare classics!
Always loved the fact you run this game and cover as much as you have on your channel. It's not a title that gets much highlight compared to others on UA-cam. Always learn at least one new thing from your Pokemon Snap vids.
Hmm so the sparkling Magikarp gets you the most points, the cave one gets you the least. Moral of the story , get out there and shine, and don't be hidden away in a cave.... or something like that...
I love story time. I'll never forget first seeing this game. I was hanging out with a friend in like 5th grade, if I recall, and he talked his mom into taking us to Best Buy, where we picked up Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium. Was a good day.
I got a copy of the game used at a yard sale. Many of the high scores on that game were close to the wr scores. There were several things I never figured out how to do as a kid.
the pair of snap games are probably my favorites in the franchise.... I guess i enjoy photo safaris more than battling ;) seeing the pokemon in nature environments is always so cool to me. nice video! i did not know some of these before...like using the c buttons to slow the car down even more to get a really close picture of pika on articuno. i just assumed you could look back for it, but it would always be too tiny to ever get a great size photo from. but that extra slow down really brings up its points.
"See you idiot bastard" with that font in the bottom right of the screen is absolutley a reference to Cowboy Bebop. "See you space cowboy" is a very popular phrase

Figuring out the maximum score for a magikarp shouldn't be particularly difficult for a TAS. Its just a matter of finding the best frame to bait it out of the water and the best frame to snap a picture.
3:04 magikarp... it's magikarp... every level has a pond of water (including the volcano level) and if you throw an apple or pesterball, a magikark will jump out and flop real quick
I knew how to get a pic of Gyrados from an article in Nintendo Power. But I never got the pic because I thought it would be a jumpscare. I was a weird kid.
This is the only game I've ever cared about speed running. Mostly because it's easy, and I don't have the patience for more impressive games. Also, because I love this game. I got it down to 30 minutes before losing interest. At the time, I think it was a top 10 or 20 time, but I didn't really care about it being recorded. It was just fun to do. 🤷♂️
My ruling on the Pikachu T-shirt: I think it’s a relatively modern shirt, probably within the past 8 years. The “SEE YOU idiot bastard” phrase is in-line with current meme humor, and the screenshot is a crystal clear one from an emulator. (If it were from back in the day, the quality would’ve been from a fuzzy CRT capture) I also second that “See You” is in fact a reference to Cowboy Bebop, given the font and italic styling matches up. It’s also in the spot it appears in the anime, being in the lower right corner. Regardless, this was a really interesting video. I kinda want that shirt now lol
dang I mustve been obsessed cuz I knew about all of these - except ekans - from playing as a kid. I couldn’t get that obsessed with new snap tho I got a lot done there

This claim is as believable as a Nillew high score.

My first thought regarding the t-shirt was that the Pikachu was the one calling the Zubat an idi*t b*stard. It fits quite well, I would say.
Ohhh, that could be it!
@@GamerFolklore No. It's a bebop reference. it's literally using the "SEE YOU" from "SEE YOU SPACE COWBOY" in the exact same font and placement.
