@@Blernster I do but not sure I still have the cartridge even. I'll have to look for it and if not then now you've gotten me wanting to load this up on Everdrive and get it just to prove it :P if I could do it as a 10 year old I'm sure I could do it now.
Even though the Mew record is very obtainable and entry level compared to a lot of the other solo Pokémon records, it’s still a bit finicky with size and positioning. Sandbagging the pester ball throws is also important because if you hit Mew early during its chase it can mess up your final snap. Definitely a very fun and easy way to get into Snap score runs! Thanks for the feature too! :)
I love how simplistic yet technical this game is. And I certainly can't wait for the next Pokemon Snap to come out either! Thanks for the vid, Goose ^^ You did a great job as always.
Top 10 numerical scores is the perfect entry video for people who aren't familiar with this game. Now a great followup would be something like "top 10 insane strats" for world records. There might be some overlap with this list, but it would let you detail other ones like Sandshrew, Jynx, or Starmie that involve unintuitive or unexpected setups.
I'm like 99% sure I took a perfect mew photo when I was a kid - it seemed like an appropriate way to end the game and it's honestly not very difficult.
Another pokémon in a similar situation to Magmar (and would be 11th on this list) is Porygon: 1,000 size with a 990 friend, just 10 points away from a perfect 5,800. I truly believe both scores will happen, it is only a matter of time. Good luck to anyone attempting to be the first to obtain a new perfect Pokémon Snap record!
I'd like to point out that Jigglypuff actually has a very complicated setup, part of which is the pester ball throws you mentioned around 12:30. It's really not as RNG as you make it sound, but rather a complex set of inputs that get you consistent setups for high score attempts.
@@GamerFolklore Feketerigo's video, if you translate it, describes the setup. I haven't yet bothered learning it in detail, but like many other setups in the game, it involves starting/stopping your zoom at specific times (typically using visual cues), doing certain numbers of c-left/right inputs, and throwing pester balls/apples at specific times. He devised it to get the two extra Jigglypuffs into the very bottom corners of the frame at the same time (because Pokemon in the corners of the frame give more points).
@@GamerFolklore The corner thing is well known, the Snap community calls it Square Head Theory, but I'm pretty sure anyone could figure it out for themselves after a bit of playing. It also makes sense geometrically, if you think about it. As for the tutorials, I just use Yandex's OCR translator and take screencaps of the text in his videos. Works well enough for a machine translation.
@@mw4501 I can never seem to find Feketerigo's videos....yours have been very helpful, though, so thank you. Do you know where I can find Feketerigo's stuff? Or do you know more details on Jigglypuff (other than the double pester ball trick, which has helped!)?
I was expecting a Pikachu to be in, even thought maybe the Articuno one would be in somehow. I never got a good shot of that specific one as a kid, but did not expect it to be that nutty!
Some of these strats are pretty crazy, no doubt! Given how much more nuanced New Pokémon Snap's scoring system is, it's going to be very interesting to see how the high score scene shapes up. The game's built-in scoring metrics already encourage getting a high score-which as with the original, is always really satisfying to do-but Mirror, in some ways, sets a much higher bar on score caps than Oak ever did. Will be interesting to see what trades folks will have to make or try to avoid making in order to get top scores.
I was unbelled between this video and the last one. Luckily it showed up on my main page so I was able to see it. Clicked the bell again so hopefully it sticks this time.
you know, as a kid I had all these pictures in max scores, even the mew picture, I was so proud of my Mew picture with 10k points, too bad I had no idea a pokemon snap community existed back then...
Shootouts to Opera GX yall. My chrome would affect my FPS fairly regularly if I was streaming audio/video on UA-cam music since you can't not load the video is seems but now I just limit my browser and it works great from the built in player. Also they keep a lookout for deals/free games so you don't have too.
I used to be a hardcore Opera fan. No other browser will ever stack up to the power and configurability of Opera 12. Sadly, they scrapped the entire codebase with version 14. They lost 99% of the features that made it great and have shown no interest in restoring the browser to its former glory.
It's kinda funny how all of the others require lots of strategy you wouldn't think of at first and the very top is just... Mew being the "final boss" of the game automatically just wrecks them just because they're the final boss even though it is by far the easiest and most boring.
Been on Opera for years. Stuck with it when Chrome was not able to make bookmark folder and open all bookmarks at 1 click while Opera was able to. Got to GX once after reinstalling OS, wanted to try it for run. Has some issues and tiny details which I would love to change, yet devs dont do it. But overall, not even close to being inferior to chrome. Pretty the same browser just with a different look. Even extensions from Chrome perfectly and with no issues work in Opera. There's no reason to switch from Chrome to GX or plain Opera. But if you do, you will see that there's literally almost no difference. The only thing for GX is that you can easily customize certain things like the overall look. "Force Dark theme" feature is pretty neat tho and works perfect most of the time.
A bold prediction: Goose will become the next great Pokemon content creator. He'll start streaming shiny hunts and nuzlocks and vgc battles all while wearing Ash's iconic vest and hat. It will be TRULY remarkable.
Anyone else like that the high scoring pictures actually look really cool?
The grading system holds up
I have a 10,000 point Mew from when I was a kid...I would definitely guess that thousands of people have done it.

You could make a paint drying speedrun world record sound fun and exciting.
Have to respectfully second this
For real
Damn now I'm thinking of paint strats use thin coat of paint in a hot dry environment and aim a fan at it.
Acrilic dries in 30 minutes.
So there the time to beat.
It surprises me how many poses this game had that I never saw as a kid.
Right?! Can’t believe I never noticed
_Candice Fidden_ pose, after all these years…
I see Pokemon Snap, I click the like button. Also, that Pikachu setup is absolutely insane. Never would have imagined a shot like that being possible.
I've always known about the Zubat and Pikachu special... but I never /ever/ knew that you could get Pikachu to ride Articuno. Holy crap...
You missed an opportunity

Yet another truly remarkable video for my afternoon shift at work... Looking forward to Speedlore

From browser to bowser 🤷♂️.
looking forward to the "Feketerigo clean sweep" video...
