- Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2008 | Few travelers venture beyond Prague to experience the Czech Republic's many cultural riches and offbeat delights. We'll get started with a whirlwind of Art Nouveau, local pub music, stinky-cheese tasting, river rafting, and peat bathing in places like Olomouc, Moravský Krumlov, Třeboň, and Konopiště. We'll also tour a remarkable memorial to the Holocaust in Terezín, and the charming castle town of Český Krumlov. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #czechrepublic

Love to Czechia from Germany!
❤
I would like to suggest not to use Czechia, as it has a bad connotation for older generation (Nazi's term Tschechei). If uou feel that Czech republic is too long, use Czechlands, or what Czech call it, Cesko (soft C/tch).
Hungry caterpillar!
Congratulations for your national holiday today to the Czech Republic
Since 2000 you celebrate this day. Czech is a main part of the european family
Such an amazing country with beautiful landscape and such charming people
Wish all czech people only the best for the future from your friends in Germany
Thanks a lot for the nice wishes! All the best!
Ohh dear love you
What national holiday we celebrate since 2000?
Thank you very much for your wishes. Everyone should know that this country and its beauty was also build by Germans who lived here for centuries and I am proud to acknowledge this. And German people will always be welcomed here!
@Sasuke Uchiha Some yes. I'm a Czech-German descendant.
Alot of Love to Czech Republic 🇨🇿
From Pakistan 🇵🇰

The best wishes for the lovely and rich country of The Czech republic from Iran.
Good luck to you. I wish you were finally free and prosperous, following the great history of your nation!
@@aswler thank you dear. Hope all the dictators to be taken down soon.
@mini polis ممنونم 💜
It really seem wonderfull in Czech. really would love to visit after the pandemic 🇨🇿🇩🇰
It really is beautiful and there is plenty to do all around the country. CR has mountains, lakes, forests, caves, museums, castles, festivals of all types (food, drinks, medieval, music, film...) etc etc.... I love going to Moravia at the end of September during the young wine festivals for example. Amazing. I miss pre-Corona times when we could travel and everything was open and great.
@@MissSladousek Would you recommend CR as a place for a Canadian Retired person to move to? I am thinking Prague or Tbilisi Georgia
@@MrBlair-ft2li I have never been to Tbilisi thought one day I would love to. I know some people who been there or are from there and I think Prague is definatelly a better choice. At least in terms of an economy and geographical location. Also, in my opinion there is a lot more to do in Prague and the choice of international cusine is wider as its more developed city. You could live on the outskirts of Prague if you wish to live near the nature but still with an easy distance to the city. Retired life can be quite friendly with mushrooming, blueberry hunting, actual hunting, castle visiting, or trekking across the country all very safely.
@@MrBlair-ft2li In Tbilisi it is almost impossible to live, without speaking georgian or russian. Only few people there speak english. On the other side, everything is cheaper in Tbilisi, and it´s not that overcrowded. Also local cuisine is incredibly good, and it really local, in Praque, many things just pretend to be local, but it´s not.
@@MrBlair-ft2li Go for 🇨🇿
I'd love to live there, South Africa has nothing like Europe with history and architecture
We love Czech and we are PROUD to be Czech! :-)
Come and have a FUN!
+Hezky Česky How is Brno..? Especially for noneuropeans..?
+Xavier Smith Yes in deed! We speak Czech.. "tedy česky"..
+Phani Shankar Brno is great city too. There are many thinks to visit and see and specially if you are interested in a wine business. Brno is in Moravian region where most of the Czech production of wine is being made. If you wanna have a look on lovely Czech country side - than that is a way to start in Brno and travel from there - towards to cities like Mikulov, Břeclav, Hodonín..and maybe even beautiful place near be it - like Lednice (castle)..
Moravian people are kind and lovely to meet - but you have to go to country side to really appreciate the traditional view.
Hezky Česky Thanks for the info. I am attending and interview soon and hopefully I get the job in Brno.
czech republic=shit communist. Nuked
I went to these places even before Rick Steves promoted these places. It was amazing to go to these places when you did not see too many tourists. For me personally go mid September. No big crowds because all the college students and families have gone back home. The weather is better also. Take your time and don't rush yourself in these places. Spend at least 3 days in these areas.
Loooove Prague, one of the most beautiful and romantic places in the world.
good old times with normal music in youtube videos with normal loudness :-D
I think this is one of the best videos about my country on youtube
Czech Republic was very fun. I had a good time there
One of the best guides for any European country. He presents you with the cultural treasures in a fun way and gives practical information on how to make the best out of your limited vacation time.
An update for art lovers - the Slavic Epic is now in Prague
By the way... I kinda miss Kutná Hora here. I know there is a lot to mention and you can't cram all the beautiful places into 25 minutes but at least few words... In the 14th century, before the Hussite wars, Kutná Hora was one of the richest cities in the entire Europe. It was all thanks to silver mining and production of coins called Pražský groš which was very popular european currency at that time. Kutná Hora is now listed as a UNESCO world cultural heritage (amongst other 11 places in Czechia).
I was kinda shocked not to see Kutna Hora mentioned here. Regardless, I can’t wait to visit Prague next week with a day trip to Kutna Hora.
Personally for me Prague is the city that outshines all other european cities.
+atempo206 Why is that?
+atempo206 can you elaborate?
You are not alone in that opinion
As a Prague citizen and native, I think Basel's beauty outshines even Prague.
What about Helsinki
I love Czech! Love from Silesia
The Czech republic is really wonderful country. I love it.
Thank you Rick you are the best.Watching it during covid19 lockdown.
Czech Republic is the key of Europe
The saying is : The heart of Europe
Czech republic is simply the best country in Europe ! ! ! !
zaraz po Polsce
absolutely great country
Too bad Rick didnt mention Czechia's best export.. hockey players. Ty for Vrana and Kempney from the US.
All Europe is best.
Thank you!
cheers from croatia
Rick Steves, your video very special. A comprehensive information about the people and all related to the venue/area. Well-planned in ca. 24 minutes only. I feel like on the spot with your trip. Great job. Thank you.
The Slavic epic is indeed to see in Prague now. It's no longer in Moravský Krumlov. (and a note: the spelling of one of the places you visited is Třeboň). However it's a very nice short documentary, always glad to see people realizing that the Czech Republic has so much more to offer than Prague..
and now it's somewhere out in the world! waiting for the moment it returns back to its homeland.
It's easy to go the capital cities of a country, airplane ride and you're there. Train rides are much more fun. Czech is a small country so only 3 hour train rides and one can get to most places in this beautiful country! Thank you, Steve
Simply beautiful ! The blessed Česko. Thank you , Rick.
I wanna live there
Same here
Rick we didn't see you eat the stinky cheese, you need to return for a retake.

I been in Prague with my Czech's partner and I loved the historical, the architectural building and the castle. My partner is now in Prague( without me :-( ) to visit his family. I wish I could go back again and to see the other places I have not see yet. Thanks Rick .

Oh my lovely Olomouc ♥

Excellent your information,
Thanks for your resurch in detail. 👍👍👍🙏Nam myo Ho Renge kyo.. namaste
Simply fascinating.
I wish someday I could visit my love Czech republic...
From all the places he visited the one that I liked the most was Moravia..Olomouc..I think I would love to go there..Thank you for showing us such a beautiful country...
I was in that square a few weeks ago. Olomouc was pretty nice.
I knew nothing at all about these towns outside of Prague. What a surprise to discover (my dear) Mucha's homeland of Bohemia-Moravia! And to see the Roma in one of their homelands and listen to their music. But also, there are historical facts that are excruciatingly hard to absorb; in many cities, they might be plastered with arts, royal elegance and music, but here, they are raw. I thank you, Rick for bringing them to our awareness: We need to know! It is so easy not to know...
We had the best time @ the Czech republic,Prag was AWESOME, !
Nice words Inge , how are you doing today ?
Hello Inge
Czech republik had best beer on the world.
I like Třeboň very old town and beautiful Spa.
Nice paintings under red roofs..Rick
great video love ittttt
An excellent destination I'll have to travel.
I was in Olomouc last month, it was my 4th trip. I was quite surprised and pleased that there are several vegetarian restaurants in town!
Lovely Country
What a nice trip! Thanks Rick
Excellent ...............
that intro though
Beautiful city

I love Prag!

Hello Nicole
Priblizující krásné video.
Moje rodiste......111!
I highly dispute the statement at 2:52 that the Moravians are more emotional and friendlier than Czechs. I, the Czech, debate this nonsense with my Moravian wife for more than 20 years. So far, no solution, the debate continues...
lehoX62 As a Czech I've got to agree. Of course it varies but in general, if you go to Moravia just for a pop visit you can certainly tell in a minute the people are more friendly and warm.
lehoX62 o
@@dejffjed If you want some real warmth just come to Ostrava. After you step off the train, pay no attention to the smell of urine, but those smiling gypsy's are indeed a warm greeting. Take a tram towards the main square, that smell of body sweat is warm, but not too friendly.
Don't worry if you don't notice any immediate smiles. These people are absolutely not cold. Hearts of gold once you get to know them, and no they're not on their way to any funeral.
The people here are obviously very caring towards each other and full of respect for themselves too.
@@dejffjed Maybe I should go there, but I found the people in Prague pretty friendly as well, although I was only there for a short time.
7:27 "It's good for you as a man!" I love it.
Terezin is a bastion - a star fortress
I love that thank you 😊
These 2013 era videos are the best!

Nice words Tracey , how are you doing ?
Great Pictures!
Great places to visit a nice areas to visit after the city of Prague
Hello Ana
Rick. Great video. Well researched and filmed. You must have a lot of fun making these videos. So informative.
This guy's favorite word is "delights". It's in every video.
Hot greetings to my memories in Moravia .... Olomouc was my deep dreams .
The Slav Epic by Alfons Mucha was moved to Prague...
Other towns/cities to visit include Tábor, Telč and Třebíč.
The Slav Epic paintings were moved to Prague (in Veletržní Palace) in 2012 after this video was made.
The paintings were on exhibition in Japan in mid-2017, may still be as at August 2017.
Great country with beautiful architecture. People are very nice once you get passed their shyness
wish I can travel with you Steve. My dream job is travelling around the world
Thank you for showcasing towns that are all too often overlooked, but, should not be.
Czech Republic a countryŷ of great disaster and loverly landscapes a country Not to miss a great place to visit. On holiday .I was able to satay in 1980s great holiday. Thanks for my jjounry
That intro! hahaha. LOVE THIS CHANNEL!
I'm Czech and I didni't know about that ridiculous astronomical clock in Olomouc...
Sir Davis; If it still there today I think it's nice..The people not only recognized the value of their culture and history but also of their struggles and how today they are such a fantastic country...
vicksss It's a monument to a fallen authoritarian regime and its twisted ideology. I fail to see what's nice about it.
iglidor Concentration camps were never supposed to be a monument celebrating a regime and its ideology.
Sir David Payne i'm from algeria and i reallu want to live in czech republic but i don't know how to live there and if the people of czech can accepte another people "immigration" can i have some help?
Amine Tube It is pretty simple. People in Czech republic and in Europe in general got pretty quickly alergic to immigrants who marched in our countries without bothering to take any ID or legal documents, who came here without any knowledge of our languages, no plan on where to live and work and no idea how to find either of them and yet at the same time shouting from bottom of their lungs how we are responsible for them and that we have to take care of them and allow them whatever they want.
Obviously such outlook rubbed lot of people around here wrong.
If you want to avoid all this, it is pretty simple:
Learn language of country where you want to move in.
If you can't learn that language (either due to time constrants or simply no source to learn it from), it can be skipped but then you should secure place to live in and job in that country BEFORE you move in because later here it would be very hard to do so without knowledge of local language. English will not help you everywhere.
And of course go through legal routes to get legal documents that will allow you to live here. Unless you are criminal or drug addict they will not make you any problems to aquire them.
Also important thing to realize is that Czech Republic is mostly atheistic. There is not much support for religion here. No one is forbidding anyone to believe in whatever he wants but if you are religious, do not expect anyone to bend out of their way because of it or people be interested in it.
If you do above mentioned things, you will be accepted without any problems.
People around never complain about someone working here. They simply dislike those who came here with intent to not work yet full of demands.
Nice!
Very well made video about the Czech Republic. I don't usually like this type of documentary, but this was fun.
That intro really gets the ball rolling
very nice
Nice
My 13x great grandfather was born in Bohemia.
Im so amazed that I started to screen shot details as much as possible and decided to make an album of it to my facebook page.
Hello Baby
Nice intro👍🏼
Lovely ...he always imbedded beliefs in his story.!!
Most houses in cities in Europe had flushing toilets in 1900. It was not used so much in the countryside, but it was normal sanitary technology in that time.
I love Prague though it was the only city I've due to time constraint. It was like entering a storybook. But been to Old Town and New Town, Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Astronomical Clock, Wenceslas Square, various churches, etc. Would be happy to return when it's already safe to travel.
I’ve been watching Rick Steves since the 90s and I’ve never seen this episode. It’s one of my favorites! Sounds like old Franz Ferdinand experienced what the Roma might call Karma: what goes round comes around 😂
Ja aber er hat nur Tiere getotet.
Prague is beautiful city
