- Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2008 | The Dordogne River Valley - with its dramatic castles, evocative cave paintings, and prized cuisine - is an unforgettable blend of man-made and natural beauty. We'll take an idyllic canoe ride, and then visit a goose farm and savor the foie gras. We'll also wander through a lamp-lit castle, enjoy a country market, and visit the Sistine Chapel of the prehistoric world. Then we head south to Albi, home of Toulouse-Lautrec, and the imposing fortress city of Carcassonne. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #dordogne
Europe is the best place in world
Rick is the Bob Ross of travel.
France & Germany = Friendship forever !
Rick lives about 10 miles from my house. His shows what got me really into history and European travel.... I Had no idea that I’d been watching his show for 27 years and he was just up the road.
Have you ever met RIck in person?
Tell him I think he's great!
10 miles isn't just up the road but yeah haha
a country and the most beautiful in the world when it brings together everything that makes people happy... wine gastronomy museum monuments culture landscape history climate sea mountain fashion and only France and Italy bring it all together
+China and Japan
I was born in Dordogne. I tried to live somewhere else once. I came back.
Europe is the paradise in this world. Especially, France... how gorgeous she is. Love from India.
Aneesh T aano??..
Compared to India, everywhere is Paradise
@@DoomCycle LOL
You are right,Europe is the wonder of this world and needs to be protected!
@@DoomCycle - *Compared to the UK anywhere in Europe is paradise*
France, Italy, and Spain are by far some of the most beautiful countries in the world.
Thanks to Roman culture
Treki not only, the Loire Valley for example
With deutchland 😉
Not even close. You are kidding right. Albania is by far the most beautiful country in the world. Second is Armenia. And the third is Senegal. Everything else is just far away in beauty compared to these 3.
@@nebojsa1976 lol..lol..lol..lol..
Rick Steve's and France are fantastic. Foie Gras is inhumane.
m j 👍💯🕊
Yes horrible. Stuff like this inhumane treatment takes away enjoyment of everything else.
@@MegaLivingIt where the hack do you see an inhumane treatment ?
Yes, it's inhumane all right. Human beings shouldn't lower themselves to cause suffering to fellow creatures on farms and I find it disappointing that pâté de foie gras can be mentioned in passing in a frivolous way that seems to quite approve of it.
Glancing down at more comments i think there's going to be more about foie gras on this documentary with someone trying to justify it. I already know how it's produced. Sadly, I can't bear to watch more of this otherwise very good documentary.
Can I have a life like Rick's 😔😔
Lol, we wish!
Great Work by Rick Steves. Europe is full of Majestic Scenery and wonderful History. I love Europe. Especially France.
I visited the Dordogne 35 years ago and I said at the time, "I must come back." This year I will.
France Explained Beautifully
Wish I could speak French . I've always wanted to go to Europe the houses are beautiful.
Very enjoyable, great video of an amazing region of France. Thanks Rick.
There are so many things to visit and to do in this magnificent region: the hundreds of medieval castles, the villages of remarkable beauty, and most of all, the incomparable gastronomy.
Do you live in France? If so, you're very lucky.
@@PlannedObsolescence and for you - especially - one of the highest concentration of paleolithic archeological sites worldwide.
Wow! I did that exact trip about 20 years ago now; but it also included, Domme, le Gorge de Padirac, Cahors, Rocamadour, and Toulouse. Loved canoeing on the Dordogne. It was magical. Fell in love with France then and there. As well, discovered the home of my ancesters who live and lived in the region.
I'd pay 100k to travel the world with Rick Steves as my tour guide (and that fee would also cover all the help of his "friends" that he seems to have in virtually every country).
Pay me 10K dollars I will cook for you
Studing about Lascaux. Came to see Dordogne! Beautiful Place!!
Marisa from Brasil 😘
I like france very nice
Thanks :)

We used to holiday there, drive down and 🏕 camp, paradise.
Fly away little geese! Fly away!
l agree! the owner of this farm insists that putting the tube down the goose`s throat is humane and does NOT hurt !!! Really ??? How does she know ! ! l`m sure if someone shoved a tube down HER throat she might have a different view !!! l love France but NOT this cruel practice.
@@karenmedler9454 Dordogne citizen here and I agree with you! These practices aren't humane at all and hurt the geese. The force-feeding, as it literally tells, is not natural for them. Geese do stock up for their trip yes, but not to this point. Their livers get a tiny bit bigger but they for sure don't look like the ones you can buy on markets. I'm proud of my region but not of geese foie gras.
Thank you Rick showing Europe.. we can't effort to see Europe but your doing possible for us in our home..
been to the dordogne like 5 times in my life. great, beautiful place. it really is as nice as the video says.

😁😆😅🤣
I'm from Albi and it's 3 hours away from Dordogne, and Carcassonne is 2 hours away from here. These places are not close at all, actually it's not even the same region (Albi and Carcassonne are in Occitanie, la Dordogne is in Nouvelle-Aquitaine). If you go to Dordogne I would suggest you to visit villages in Lot/Corrèze instead, it's closer.
I love the city of Albi. France is such a wonderful country to visit. I live in Australia and have to fly for hours to get there, but so worth it. Blessings France.🇫🇷❤️
@@marlanesimpson1439 I'm so glad you like our country! Don't hesitate if you need any travel tips or suggestions of places to visit to ask me. Have a good trip xx
I enjoy all of your videos but this one was so heavenly... I think this is the word that sums it up. I will definitely come back to watch again!
Beautiful! Great Work. Visited all prehistoric sites While studying at Natural History Museum Paris. Biggest regret was I haven't had a camera only mental images. But this refreshed my memories and I wish to go back there if God allows. Thanks Rick Steve

@@fari7535 That doesn't mean much. I live in a town in the south of France where there are the best preserved Roman arenas in the world, a very well preserved Roman temple as well and an old tower that used to be Gallic, and none of these monuments are unesco, even despite our many requests...

Not sure the farmer’s reasoning that force feeding is somehow the same as natural energy stocking really makes sense, or justifies the practice...... otherwise they wouldn’t need to force feed the geese.
And because the geese don’t fly, they don’t ever work off the fat. I can’t imagine that doesn’t lead to some kind of health issue and discomfort.
Finally, I appreciate that she seems to provide a relatively pleasant life for her geese (aside from the force feeding and eventual slaughter, of course), but I’m sure there are also froie gras farmers who are less ethical and less concerned with with their geese’s comfort...... I’ve seen videos of geese too fat to stand up and were basically confined to their pen... sometimes getting attacked by rats, without being able to even turn around to defend themselves.
No siree, NO foie gras for me, thank you very much.
Wonderful nature greeting you
I like very much ! Thanks

The map at the beginning is super off, as Beynac-et-Cazenac and Sarlat are really close, about 7 km away. On the map it looks like you put Beynac where Bergerac is ( 60 KM from Sarlat). But nice documentary. It’s my home state. I ve been around the world and it’s still my favorite place.
Sarlat a lovely village plenty of beer and foisgrass. Just seat down relax enjoy is fantastic. The atmosphere enchanting
