Hi JK, Glad you enjoyed this video! It's a method my Dad came up with way back when to achieve a mild custom. Looks factory... but not quite. It also allowed front and rear glass to be reused without any cutting.
Mon I really miss my Pop's helping me with my builds he was in his late 70s still helping me out. He stayed active all the way to the end prostrate C, people could not believe how old he was still working on car's
@@iNVisionPrototypes now haven't measured this with an angle finder or anything like that but I like the profile of say a 1951 Chevy coupe (I drove a hardtop for the last six years until I recently bought this Ford) top a little bit better than the fords. Your approach to a chop top is so simple compared to many other jobs I've seen on a lot of other channels. It makes perfect sense and you're going to get amazing results
Cool! My Dad taught me everything I know. When asked he's done roofs back in the day both ways... this way always kept the front and rear glass intact. Thanks for watching Ernie - we appreciate the support. Part 2 comes out next Friday!

It looks pleasing to the eye this far. Will look at your next video. Most top chops tend to be too aggressive. Heating and tweaking the A pillar, I've never seen that approach before.

Sure is!! Might need video screens and cameras to drive it.. or perhaps a simple gun turret. Check out tomorrow's video to see how this build unfolds. Cheers!
The 51 has a 114" wheebase. If I recall correctly the Aspen is shorter. Might work if you're building a gasser, but then you need to look at the front cowl and seating positions.
@iNVision Prototypes Sincere question: Instead of bracing the interior before the chop, is it possible to tack weld the doors (not the window area) instead? Once the chop is done, the tack welds can be cut and grinded off. What do you think?
Great question RoyalRicardo! One has to make sure that the B pillars are stablized before chopping otherwise they are free to move in and out and affect how the door closes. Tacks on the door to quarter area won't stop that motion. (Those tacks were there from when the previous owner's grandson cut the floors/rockers out and needed to keep the body from unfolding) As I was joining the 51 to the new chassis I added additional B Pillar structural reinforcement down to the rocker(can be in seen the Rocker episode) similar to that of a Hardtop design and didn't need any cross bracing when chopping the roof. Hope this helps. Any more questions don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for watching!! Nick
Of course! I'm getting ready for summer and felt this shirt needed some more air flow... the sparks melt the holes' edges so they don't fray lol! Thanks for watching
If the plastic dash wasn't in place, actually yes. In this case we required a faster heating time and more focused flame so as not to affect the surrounding area. Biggest thing was to dance over the area like you saw in the video and not to sit in one spot. Thanks for watching.
It also seems more feasible if the shoebox body has a good floor, to do the top cut first brace the body then cut out the floor to complete the driveline swap
@@mitchbarber3468 This 51 was like a cardboard box. There was nothing left in terms of floor, structure, etc. The people's grandson who I purchased this car from attempted to change out the floor.
