This museum NEEDS a youtube channel.. showing new incomming cars, giving history lessons of the pieces they own, restoration vlogs, etc. Doesn't even have to be polsihed edited videos... anything would be amazing... just a few shorts of how they fix stuff and everyone will love it.
I’m thrilled to see how the museum is so closely linked with their community. From having school children visit, to volunteers restoring and finally having estates donate their vehicles, it follows the cycle of life in the century transportation. Great respect !!! What different perspective from those that shutter their cars from public sight, while rust slowly deteriorate them into oblivion.
Im 80 yrs old and this leaves me nearly speechless. A lot of my life was spent theough all these categories. Built motorcycles boats airplanes ( bush piolet taildraggers rule) race cars custom everything and everything is delireaus. I want them all but the Healy makes me dream. Had a MK 3000 inline 6 Su carbs etc. One of my alltime favorite body designs like the Shelbys and GT 40s. Oooo Great video. Thanks. They must continue to represent our past. Dandahermit
You can hear the passion in Toby’s voice. What a wonderful place to go to every day and actually make a difference. Well done to the museum. What a great video
I have lived in Maine my entire life, I am 59 years old. My wife and I finally made the trip from our house in Southern Maine up to Owls Head this past spring. It was well worth it! Great vehicles and facility. I highly recommend a visit.
I love Barn Finds, I love cars, and great stories never hurt. This is the best video from you yet, Tom! The knowledge and enthusiasm of this man, I am sure he will see an uptick in attendance at the museum from folks who have seen this. Wonderful!
Toby's honesty should be commended. Most people wouldn't be willing to tell the truth about the decision making that is involved in selling vs. preserving.
Millikens Corner is located in Watkins Glen, NY, not at Lime Rock. It was named when Bill Milliken was racing in the first road race there and wrecked in the 90 degree turn as he was returning back to town.
The engine in the airplane behind the Jeep is a modified Henderson Motorcycle engine. There was a kit sold to do the conversion and many were installed in homemade aircraft.
whats the obsession with family friendly content ,, i find family friendly content everywhere ,,freaking out over the pettiest things does not help kids,, my mother freaked out when i saw a boob in a movie 50 years ago,,, we still laugh about that to this day,, seeing boobs didn't hurt me !!
@@herchelleonwood7463 It's more than just not having obscene or risque content - I would use the word wholesome. There are too many channels on here with idiots doing really stupid things (like purposefully destroying entire vehicles or engines) just to get views. I would also describe that as not family friendly, as I certainly don't want to teach that type of behavior to my children.
Drove my 20+ year old Dodge Dakota to Maine from Minnesota 3 years ago & after Old Orchard Beach, The Owl's Head Museum was my "Most" memorable stop....My truck sports a Owls head sticker on the windshield. Thanks for bringing back a GREAT memory Tom!
This museum is WORLD CLASS, and I will be attending the auction in August (from Michigan!) ... wish me luck that I don't succumb to temptation and that I don't buy anything!
I love just about anything from The Great War. Those planes are so cool! I could watch an entire episode on just those! There is just something about dogfighting in the air with such a primitive piece of machinery!
Small local museums are the true way of preserving automobiles and automo-bilia for the future. Big city institutions have their place for sure, but for generating interest in any given subject, a 'hometown' facility, well presented and maintained is a key for maintaining interest among those who will never see a Blackhawk Collection, a Nethercutt or a Petersen.
Loved this video, we see so many vintage cars sitting in fields wasting away. It so nice to see a group of people who lives are dedicated to working and saving these cars for people to see.
I've been to this Museum several times. They do a fantastic job. Very welcoming. Excellent displays. Very clean. I believe they make wonderful stewards for the future. We go every year in July for the truck and tractor show and I highly recommend it. We collect, restore, and use Wheel Horse tractors. As you can imagine we got a hell of a kick out of the one that the museum has. 5:55.
Whenever I get a chance to go visit any place in the world, this museum is definitely the first place i would choose, what a marvel of engineering history😍
First of all I absolutely love you, Tom Carter. Second of all I am so thrilled that you have a second home in Maine and are doing barn. Find hunting up there. And I say up there because you are definitely north of just about everybody in the country, if you’re up a trip down to Foxborough Massachusetts, I have 5/ first GEN Broncos and some 73 to 79 Ford pick ups that you and your viewers might like to see. You are welcome anytime even if you’re not interested in the vehicles you can just stop by if you’d like and we can talk about cars. You’re always welcome into me. You’re just a friend I haven’t met yet but I hope someday I will.
Wow at 15:02 the Ford 4 Door Convertible is absolutely stunning! The coach builder / designer created simply a perfect "Rembrandt" that still all these years later grabs the eye! Sexy ...... 😊
Good to see a museum with a sustainable plan for the future. Too many museums dont, they are the dream of one man, and when he passes, the dream often dies. I hope jay leno has a plan for the future.
I’m happy to say that I live in Maine, close enough to visit the Owl’s Head Museum frequently!! I’m even more happy now that my son has taken a liking to all these classic machines so I can always find a reason to go and visit lol. I look forward to seeing you at Seal Cove in a few weeks Tom!
I'm glad I watched this!!! Now I know I need to change our will and leave nothing to a museum. If I left them a vehicle and found out they sold it I'd be back to haunt them forever. If this guy is telling the truth and they sold 2/3rds of one donation the place should be closed!!!!
This was great!! I'd never heard of this museum before, but it certainly makes me want to visit it before I die. The rationale of how donated vehicles were selected for restoration, or sale at auction, or for future use was fascinating, as was learning about the volunteers who participate in the efforts of the Thursday Night Restoration Crew. I hope the Museum has a UA-cam channel that is used to spread the word on the fundamentals of classic car operation (such as how to start and operate a Model T Ford), maintenance and repair, how to pick vehicles to be restored, how to start a restoration, how to restore specific vehicles that are popular with different groups of enthusiasts, how to use the Internet to find parts and service manuals from sources all over the world, how to make parts or find sources that can make parts to order, etc. A side effort to raise both interest in the Museum and revenue would be either selling the restoration products used at the Museum directly to enthusiasts, or through setting up an Amazon Storefront which had the Museum's recommended tools, guidebooks, procedures, and restoration products available from one source with quick, often free, shipping of products, without tying up the time of museum volunteers and employees. Videos of various stages of actual restorations would also bring in revenue and new supporters of the Museum. If Hagerty could publish an on-line list of these types of museum, which exist all over America, it would encourage the effort to save old vehicles and help promote the efforts of those who take an active interest in vehicle restoration to see who else is involved, and help people with similar interests connect with each other. Such an effort would help people plan day trips, weekend trips and regular vacations around traveling around their state, province, region, or the USA or Canada and Mexico country visiting these types of museums or collections which either open to the public, or to members of special interest groups. Hagerty's support of such efforts would bring in new customers for its insurance products for restored classic vehicles, and create a win-win situation for all involved.
I grew up a couple miles from the Owls Head Transportation Museum. As a kid I won a contest there and they gave me a ride in a Stanley Steamer. Been a car nut ever since
This video could've lasted for 4 hours, covered more cars & aeroplanes & still been interesting to watch. Toby's enthusiasm runs away with him & his knowledge is incredible.
Tom, "One thing our viewers like is to see what people cant see" Yeah, sure, right....Tom.... It was YOU who wanted to see. Glad you brought us along. You can just tell that Tom just loves all cars.
I'm sure the museum knows their 8th Army jeep is Korean war vintage. Even though I served in the 60's it brought back memories - I drove that model for a while when I served.
Love everything tom and the crew do to bring us this and the places and people..Do wish episodes like this would be longer but i get were not paying to go there as much as heaps of us from outside the US would if possible
Cool, other than me in about a couple hours from owls Head and always remember going a couple times of summer as a kid to the car shows. The car show was outside and the only thing I remember from inside since my grandfather was a pilot with a small planes was the planes hanging from the ceiling.
Great introduction to the Owls Head Museum and behind the scenes views. Thanks for showing us and getting them some more support. (And nice you skipped the drivers club in video ad).
Bravo Owls Head - a better example of being good *stewards* of these vehicles - and therefore, the hobby in general - would be hard to come by. Wonderful stuff, y'all. Good on ya. -Ed on the Ridge
Not that many years ago, Jeepsters were throwaway cars. A car magazine reported that a Jeepster body would fit perfectly on top of a Chevy Blazer chassis. I wonder how many times that conversion was done?
Good to hear that Barn Find "failsales" are given a second life, if not directly by this museum, hopefully by to whomever they sell them. BTW, at 11:19...If that's THEE original top on that 1930 MG, patch it up rather than replace it!
Hey Tom you should check out Pioneer Village in Menden Nebraska Harold Warp Museum. A lot of really neat cars and much more. I would love to see an episode on it.
When I was around 16 years old our neighbor around the corner had one of those Jeepsters sitting in his back yard. I kept bugging the family to let me buy it. No sale. It sat for another 30 years. Then one day it just disappeared. The old folks had died and I assume the daughters just sold it off..... At 16 years old that would have been one fun machine to have driven to school back in 1972....
This museum NEEDS a youtube channel.. showing new incomming cars, giving history lessons of the pieces they own, restoration vlogs, etc. Doesn't even have to be polsihed edited videos... anything would be amazing... just a few shorts of how they fix stuff and everyone will love it.
I agree with everything you wrote! If they modeled their channel after Tyrrell's Classic Workshop, I'd be a happy man.
I'm glad the museum is still going strong. I visited 25 years ago and it remains one of my favorites.
Added to my museum list. My favorite car museum so far is Gilmore.

What an episode.! Tobys probably got the best job in the world. His enthusiasm speaks volumes

Thank you Hagerty and Tom for this video, for a lot of us this is the only means we have to visit this museum or anything
like it!!
Love Toby's enthusiasm...those cars and planes are good hands. 👏🏻
Owls Head is a wonderful place. Took my son when he was a toddler and got a ride in a Model A. He has been hooked ever since.
I enjoyed the enthusiasm he had doing this video. You can feel the love he has.
The engine in the airplane behind the Jeep is a modified Henderson Motorcycle engine. There was a kit sold to do the conversion and many were installed in homemade aircraft.
Best series on Hagerty. Family friendly and informative.

Nice show of a museum saving history of cars and planes. Plus seeing the passion of someone that works at the museum wanting to save the history.
This museum is WORLD CLASS, and I will be attending the auction in August (from Michigan!) ... wish me luck that I don't succumb to temptation and that I don't buy anything!
I am super glad to see a Wheel Horse in use at a super cool museum. Love his enthusiasm as well.
I noticed that too!
I love just about anything from The Great War. Those planes are so cool! I could watch an entire episode on just those! There is just something about dogfighting in the air with such a primitive piece of machinery!
Dang. That place is nice and the gentleman definitely loves his work and that place. Hard to find that
Old mate was bursting at the seems. That’s passion

I always go to the classic bike and foreign car meets at Owl's Head every year. It's good to see them getting even more attention as they deserve it.
Wow! What a place! The passion for the vehicles is oozing out of this guy! Great video!
Toby, great enthusiasm.
Loved this video, we see so many vintage cars sitting in fields wasting away. It so nice to see a group of people who lives are dedicated to working and saving these cars for people to see.
Love Owl's Head! An uncle worked there 30 years ago- my dad, son and I were frequent visitors. Looking forward to visiting again this fall!
My favorite place, and it's in my State! Love it!
Always cool to see another episode of barn find hunter 👏🏼🙌🏻😎👊🏻too bad it’s far and between these days😮😬
I've been to this Museum several times.
They do a fantastic job. Very welcoming. Excellent displays. Very clean.

What a treat to get to see these precious treasures and iconic machines.
Thx4 asking about the Ford "jeep", Tom. I was hoping it would show. 👍
Wow at 15:02 the Ford 4 Door Convertible is absolutely stunning! The coach builder / designer created simply a perfect "Rembrandt" that still all these years later grabs the eye! Sexy ...... 😊

That home made aircraft engine looks like a 4 cylinder FN motorcycle engine....love to get one of those engines for my vintage motorcycle project.
Its a Henderson 4 that has had the trans cut off and is reversed from normal orientation.
