TL;DR: The Minecraft RPG You've Been Waiting For... Was not the one I was waiting for, but it's very promising. I played for about 3 hours and here is my initial review of the modpack. My first impression going into this mod is that it's an RPG Looter. I really enjoy RPG Modpacks for Minecraft, having played both Dawncraft and Prominence, with the former in particular. (I played through Dawncraft in 3 separate world, one on the 1.0 version and two on the 2.0, with about 250+ hours total sunk into them total. Expect me to compare this modpack directly to it throughout this review.) With that said, I expected to enjoy this one, and I kinda did, but not without some refrain however. This mod manage a lot of stuff very well, there were little stuffs that I was amazed by, but here are some major one: - The thing that I immediately noticed is that it's very smooth. It's super clear that the maker put a lot of effort into optimizing this mod, and it shows. It easily get over 120 fps+ on my setup even with shaders on. I experience almost no fps drop during my playthrough, which make playing on the mod way less of a hassle than Dawncraft. - The sheer variety of stuff to do and the choice of gameplay is insane. Although my playthrough was short, looking at the list of items on JEI and the skill tree already gave me some overview of what is possible in this modpack. There are still so much features that I haven't even tested yet and I'm excited to play more of this and see how crazy it get. - The mods are carefully organized to work with each other, and almost no feature conflicted/overlapped. There were some questionable key binding, but that's up to personal preferences so there was no problem there. Now for the problems I had with this modpack, there were also a lot of stuff that make me scratch my head from time to time, but these are the major issues I faced personally: - The biggest issue I immediately noticed is that Epic Fight just doesn't work for the style of combat this modpack is going for. The combat for this modpack is very vanilla-heavy, meaning no swing-lock, no stamina, and most importantly, most mob still deal contact damage. Epic Fight is a combat mod that lean very heavily into turning Minecraft combat system into a PVP combat system, with slower combat, precise swing timing, parrying, dodging, weapon arts and skills. In Dawncraft, Epic Fight work insanely well because basically every mobs have very clear attack and stagger patterns, aiding into the more precise PVP combat, and allowing you to utilize almost every features that the mod offers on almost every encounter. If you're experienced with a weapon, you can start gauging your option into an enemy you never even fought before just by baiting and observing how they attack. However, this mod treat Epic Fight as basically Better Combat with more system, which at best is honestly just a waste. But my gripe with this is the fact that most Epic Fight's features do not work at all with vanilla combat, and somehow make combats way easier and also way harder at the same time. Dodging is almost useless because with contact damages there are no patterns to dodge, dodging is now only a tool for moving away from your opponent, since dodging into an enemy ensure you'll take damage anyway. Parrying barely involves timing since melee enemies attack you as soon as they reach you. Since mobs do not stagger your attacks do not naturally chain into each other, requiring you to almost always be on the defensive and constantly back away. Because of this, weapons with higher range and faster attacks are obviously really good, and detract you from using shorter, slower weapons. Contact damages also seem to hit you at unrealistic ranges. This is obviously the side effect of the point-click vanilla combat, but since Epic Fight is very strict with how far you can hit enemies with each weapon swing, sometime you will be caught by a seemingly out of reach attack, even when you attacked first. Attacks that shift your movement slightly forward will sometime force you to get hit anyway, even when taking knockbacks into account. This mean that some weapon arts are essentially useless, since they often move you forward. Note that these problems are especially more prevalent with vanilla mobs, which are the mobs you will often be fighting anyway. (This is my opinion on how the combat felt to *me* personally, your experiences will obviously be very different so feel free to call my gameplay a skill issues since it clearly is due to my inexperience with the combat system this mod is trying to provide. The only question I have is why the developer chose to water down Epic Fight system so much instead of just using Better Combat which is clearly way better suited for this anyway.) - Progressions are whack and it honestly felt like I'm grasping at straw during my playthrough. In vanilla Minecraft the gameplay is very linear in the early game, forcing the players to get familiar with the basic systems before they venture off into more complex stuff that the game offers. There are also achievements that served as subtle guides on what the player should do next. Minecraft's takes on progression is a marvel of game design that's very simple but also very hard to replicate. Dawncraft attempt on this is the Quest system. Which works to an extend, but not as efficient in guiding the player through it mind-boggling features. But for this mod it just simply doesn't exist. This might be due to the mod clearly being in it's early stages, being released just last month at the time of writing this, but the lack of even basic guide on what to do means that the regular players are not given enough insight into what is possible, what they should be doing to kick start their playthrough, and ultimately is incentivize to not explore anything that the modpack offers. This can bring myriad of results, in my case I literally just wandered off until I find a structure that stood out. But in others the amount of information - or lack thereof, might mean they go into the modpack very confused, or lose interests altogether. Lack of progressions also meant I have no real goal in mind. Which resulted in me just wandering around, visiting structures, getting loots and just not being sure what I'm supposed to do with them. This gameplay loop can be fun, but can also only last for so long. Which is a shame since there are clearly way more stuff to do in the mod since I have ran into bosses and even some gears that look to be mid game, but with no clear progressions and no milestones to base upon, there are no possible way to gauge the dangers around me unless I bang my head against the walls to find out. This admittedly made me lose a bit of interests, since I don't know if I was even on the right track. Summary: I think this mod is very promising, but definitely not enough to label it as "The best RPG modpack." The modpack itself is very impressive and surprisingly coherent considering the scale. It is a very polished modpack on a technical level, but still lack some of the fundamentals that make a modpack great overall. There are still stuffs that generally should be improve upon. However, my biggest fear is that after all is said and done, this modpack might just not be made for me. It is a very lax take on RPG Minecraft, which is not a bad thing, but does not inherently appeal to people who enjoy the combat aspect of an RPG such as me, which might have admittedly resulted in the issues I had with this modpack being very glaring. Nevertheless, I implore everyone to try this modpack for yourself, and give your own opinion on what's good about it, and what's missing. It's very possible that you will have a very different opinion on the game than me. And I'm sure that the developer will be able to take these insight to heart and make this modpack something truly special. I'm truly excited to see another RPG Modpack on the scene again, and I am eagerly awaiting to see the story that it will write itself out to be.

A lot of modpack makers think they can create a unique experience just by changing how the mods they slap together interact. They cannot. They can only provide a unique experience by creating new unique animations, models, textures and sound effects. A new mod will always be better and more important than a new modpack, no matter what.
The mod pack is fun but it needs a bit more to be contending for one of the best rpg modpacks. The biggest issue for me was the lack information and sense of progression while playing my single player world . I'm like most people and don't know what each mod brings to the world until I randomly stumble upon a boss or some new material. I get excited to pick it up only to struggle with what to do with it. I don't know how to access certain armor sets , weapons, and other qol features added into the modpack . I joined the discord since there isn't a wiki to help me and to my surprise it also doesn't help. There are people in the discord constantly asking questions and there is no one answer or a way to find the answer ( It's kinda dead). I was able to loot a few dungeons and was instantly stronger than majority of the game , like I havent died since looting my 2nd dungeon .I'm certain there are new bosses in this mod pack but how am I supposed to find them? The enderdragon fight wasn't even a fight as it took me less than 5 minutes and it only left me saying " now what? '.I have no reason atm to continue my journey other than to get familiar with these mods but i can just make a creative world. I think it has a solid foundation as I reiterate I'm having a ton of fun but would like to see a comment or post addressing these issues wether that be here or in the discord. To sum up my experience id say it leaves me wanting more, but in a good way. This would be a good entry level modpack before moving to more difficult one's such as dawncraft. I give it a 6/10.
" An Expansive, Fantasy World A new, dangerous world. A completely different experience from other RPG modpacks " Maybe start by telling people what your modpack actually is instead of this fluff, or at least have it speak for itself. Also, I can't tell if this is just mod redistribution, or an actual modpack. Be more descriptive about anything you may have tweaked or changed so people understand what you have to offer with your modpack in terms of gameplay (afaik you have simply skills in there, but idk if you've catered it to the pack or if it's a la carte, etc).
This is the one RPG pack I have played that I didn't hate, there aren't mid game monsters appearing out of nowhere to one shot me, the removal of the hunger system actually gave me more incentive to explore more in the early game, and this is the one pack based around Epic Fights I've seen that uses a talent tree level up system Relatively speaking, a fucking phenomenonal mod pack
Fun little story, the evening I first tried the mod pack, me and my little brother were playing, but I had a few issues with the mod pack, and one of the biggest ones I had was with the hunger system, and guess what, the next day when I woke up and checked the mod pack page, I saw there was an update that REMOVED THE HUNGER SYSTEM and a couple of the other things I didn’t like about the mod pack. It was like the dev read my mind from like thousands of kilometres away.
This looks like just a bunch of the most popular fantasy mods thrown into one modpack, ill check it out but its going to need a crazy amount of tweaking to not feel like ass

@@Then_bishh Dawncraft is overrated and is a glorified fetch quest simulator where you have to talk to NPCs every time you want to kill a boss. The boss fights are also either unbalanced as hell or can be cheesed using a lava bucket and afking in a corner. There’s also little to actually explore in the world from when I played it with friends. It’s definitely just another RPG mod lol
@@axsyz6206 The great part about Minecraft is that you can play it however you want to since it’s a Sandbox game! Which also means mod creators should at least try to cover obvious methods like that, whether it be better pathfinding or innate fire resistance. I can’t be a loser for playing the game as it was intended :) The main takeaway is that if the bosses were actually balanced or posed interesting mechanics to prompt the player into not having to resort to cheap tactics, then this wouldn’t be a problem.
Its actually so cringe to unironically compare modpacks like they are live service games that kill each other, like its already a niche, they dont get killed if they barely have a playerbase in the first place
This looks cool but what exactly does it do differently or better than other packs? I feel like that's the big thing with these trailers. They showcase what looks like every other RPG modpack without actually delving into what's done differently.
yikes, i didn't even notice that. really adding credence to my kitchen sink accusation. that thing is ancient, abandoned, and meant to be played in its own container. it adds nothing outside of the dimension.
So like... What does it have that other RPG modpacks don't? Does it have custom structures made specifically for this pack using modded blocks? Does it have interactive NPCs with questlines to progress through? Is the main Minecraft progression line tweaked in any significant way? Are mods configured to work better together and compliment each other, and is there no overlapping content from different mods? Does the pack teach the player the important mods' features and mechanics so they don't have to look up 20 different wikis while playing? From the trailer, it looks like every other generic "RPG" modpack.
it's funny because I was JUST looking for a new minecraft RPG that wasn't the ones that are literally almost identical, thank you so much mqony, and it actually has good combat as-well
you want an RPG modpack thatll blow this pack out of the water? check out Prominence 2 RPG, goes as far as having custom weapons that are ONLY in that modpack, and a full storyline
I haven't been able to enjoy Minecraft for years. No matter how many mods I add, or how many friends I play with, I just cannot enjoy the game anymore. I've done everything, I'm bored of building, and it's just more effort than it's worth. This modpack, however, is making me want to play again. I'll definitely be giving it a try, it looks amazing.
there are many bugs and crushes and for some reason dragons dont make any sound so you will get one shot out of nowhere trinkets keep disappearing when you disconect if you press shift and on an item in the backpack it will crush the game
Wow! I just played it for almost 3 hours and what amazed me, besides the sheer quantity of things u can do is the optimization! I do not have the best pc (BY FAR), and yet I always had over 120 fps with everything at max, including the complementary shaders! So far it's been rlly good!
I just installed the modpack this morning, and I've already gone and uploaded an episode of me Let's Play series on it. Incredible experience thus far; great job!
the only problem i have so far is i don’t really know what to do, how to progress. a quest system would be great if you can add them in the future. and the combat system is kinda clunky but that’s mostly because i’m not used to it as i just came back to modded minecraft after a long time

an issue i came across is that spiders are invincible. They deal crazy amounts of damage or cling on to me and bypass i-frames to make my fly away and die midair. I am a ranger but arrows bounce off of the spider and my flintlock doesnt work on them. The specific spider was a white spider that can shoot webs and summon spider larvae. Getting near that thing and killing it is only possible with stealth with one strike. Spider larvae are also everywhere but they are more of a minefield. I always just run away but the white spider is giving me problems because it is right outside of my house

I suck at confinguring the mods I want to use and more often than not the "modpack" I make is a mess
If this is just a group of well knowned good mods but configured in the right way it's fine
REAL, this and progression system are the main issues i have with these "RPG packs" with the same mods, same mobs etc
I give it a 6/10.
agreed, i would love some kind of guidance on mechanics or progression because i was lost too.
i think this type of documentation needed will come with time, very valid criticism though

" An Expansive, Fantasy World
A new, dangerous world.
A completely different experience from other RPG modpacks "
Maybe start by telling people what your modpack actually is instead of this fluff, or at least have it speak for itself.
This looks absolutely stunning! Hope it blows up 🔥🔥
This is the one RPG pack I have played that I didn't hate, there aren't mid game monsters appearing out of nowhere to one shot me, the removal of the hunger system actually gave me more incentive to explore more in the early game, and this is the one pack based around Epic Fights I've seen that uses a talent tree level up system
Relatively speaking, a fucking phenomenonal mod pack
Fun little story, the evening I first tried the mod pack, me and my little brother were playing, but I had a few issues with the mod pack, and one of the biggest ones I had was with the hunger system, and guess what, the next day when I woke up and checked the mod pack page, I saw there was an update that REMOVED THE HUNGER SYSTEM and a couple of the other things I didn’t like about the mod pack. It was like the dev read my mind from like thousands of kilometres away.
Bro, I just found your modpack, and it's my new favorite. Everything about it feels so good. It delivers what it promises.
I remember when it had 12 views. Now look at it. nearly 300k. Glad that your hard work got noticed. :D
This looks like just a bunch of the most popular fantasy mods thrown into one modpack, ill check it out but its going to need a crazy amount of tweaking to not feel like ass
How is it? I got the same impression from the trailer so I haven't bothered downloading it yet.

It definetly isn’t ho
If u think dawncraft is like the avrg rpg mod ur cooked
@@Then_bishh Dawncraft is overrated and is a glorified fetch quest simulator where you have to talk to NPCs every time you want to kill a boss. The boss fights are also either unbalanced as hell or can be cheesed using a lava bucket and afking in a corner. There’s also little to actually explore in the world from when I played it with friends. It’s definitely just another RPG mod lol
@@RetroCube most people aren't losers and cheese every boss 😕
@@axsyz6206 The great part about Minecraft is that you can play it however you want to since it’s a Sandbox game! Which also means mod creators should at least try to cover obvious methods like that, whether it be better pathfinding or innate fire resistance. I can’t be a loser for playing the game as it was intended :)
The main takeaway is that if the bosses were actually balanced or posed interesting mechanics to prompt the player into not having to resort to cheap tactics, then this wouldn’t be a problem.
bro casually dropped a prominence killer the same time prominence got a major update 💀 yt algorithm loves it too

such a dumb thing to say honestly
this mod's combat is as bad as DawnCraft.
@@tvirt2100 skill issue
Its actually so cringe to unironically compare modpacks like they are live service games that kill each other, like its already a niche, they dont get killed if they barely have a playerbase in the first place
i was just looking for a new pack to play, wonderful timing man! this looks stunning
This looks cool but what exactly does it do differently or better than other packs? I feel like that's the big thing with these trailers. They showcase what looks like every other RPG modpack without actually delving into what's done differently.
This seems INSANE, im definatly gonna check it out, kudos to you on making this thing man
Twilight forest spotted, already feeling reserved about this

yikes, i didn't even notice that. really adding credence to my kitchen sink accusation. that thing is ancient, abandoned, and meant to be played in its own container. it adds nothing outside of the dimension.

"this is unlike any other rpg modpack"
* Shows the most common "big" structures that ive seen countless times and basically know their layout *
don't forget the never seen before ice and fire dragons!
im just sad it keeps disabling keep inventory
When this becomes popular, I'll be proud to have been playing this masterpiece since its release. 20.09.2024
it's funny because I was JUST looking for a new minecraft RPG that wasn't the ones that are literally almost identical, thank you so much mqony, and it actually has good combat as-well
you want an RPG modpack thatll blow this pack out of the water? check out Prominence 2 RPG, goes as far as having custom weapons that are ONLY in that modpack, and a full storyline
..3 years for yet another fantasy rpg mod PACK?
Looks like its time to make a series on this!
Subbed, can't wait!
I haven't been able to enjoy Minecraft for years. No matter how many mods I add, or how many friends I play with, I just cannot enjoy the game anymore. I've done everything, I'm bored of building, and it's just more effort than it's worth.
This modpack, however, is making me want to play again. I'll definitely be giving it a try, it looks amazing.
there are many bugs and crushes and for some reason dragons dont make any sound so you will get one shot out of nowhere
trinkets keep disappearing when you disconect
if you press shift and on an item in the backpack it will crush the game
Wow! I just played it for almost 3 hours and what amazed me, besides the sheer quantity of things u can do is the optimization! I do not have the best pc (BY FAR), and yet I always had over 120 fps with everything at max, including the complementary shaders! So far it's been rlly good!
What are your PC specs?
@@freeziex Yeah i gott know to lmaoooo 120 FPS with complimentary shaders is a stretch with even a Mid Tier PC. Maybe Ultra Fast Shaders yeah

After a decade of not playing minecraft anymore, THIS may actually be the reason I come back. This looks AMAZING!

I just installed the modpack this morning, and I've already gone and uploaded an episode of me Let's Play series on it.
Incredible experience thus far; great job!
this looks great, my new pc is arriving today so i’ll definitely give this a try
the only problem i have so far is i don’t really know what to do, how to progress. a quest system would be great if you can add them in the future. and the combat system is kinda clunky but that’s mostly because i’m not used to it as i just came back to modded minecraft after a long time
@@tae.lne3it's definitely not your fault it feels clunky
Not even lying, I have been craving a new Fantasy/Magic RPG for a while. This was EXACTLY what I was looking for!
This absolutely looks GENERIC.
from the teaser alone. You should have showcase what actually was being worked in 3 years.
Like what differentiate this from dawncraft, prominence, cisco's etc.
Still gon try the pack later on but not much expectations.
Aw goodness, the horizon is lighting at dawn
This is by far the best modpack ive played, and ive played a lot. Dawncraft included. But this modpack is really amazing. Thank you, Mqony!
Dont think you understand how long ive been trying to get distant horizons to work with a rpg pack
Wow this looks amazing! I cant wait to try it out!
If you're interested in using Distant Horizons with this modpack, follow the instructions below.
- Download a config editing mod (I used "Configured" )
- Go to the mod list and select Alex's Caves > Client > Visuals > "Biome Ambient Light Coloring" set to false
I would also recommend to disable the "Chunks fade in" mod, it adds chunk animations but doesnt work well within Distant Horizon's rendering
Hope this helped!
Fixed this in the version coming soon. Thanks!

@mqonyyt so you are adding distant horizons to the modpack? Nice

Ayo i remember seeing your vids way back when you were in the early processes of things. This is amazing, cant wait to try
You did NOT have to add that one miserable spider mod
an issue i came across is that spiders are invincible.
Broski was sitting in the back like aizen watching dawncraft release.
My rating: Holy shit, this modpack is amazing, been the first 2 hours of gameplay and havent gotten bored AT ALL, there is so much to look at and explore, the visuals are amazing, the gameplay can be challenging somtimes but most of the time i am able to kill my enemies, there is so much stuff you can do, they have added so much more armor and pickaxes which to me in modpacks, I really love, this guy did a amazing job for this modpack, I honestly think it should be paied, 4.8/5 stars good job man
Fantastic work man seriously, Would be really interested in seeing some of the development process for this modpack !!

You can add the Distant Horizon mod when it is released in a fully functional version with shaders.
But honestly it looks promising, i will download it in free time.

- Go to the mod list and select Alex's Caves > Client > Visuals > "Biome Ambient Light Coloring" set to false
I would also recommend to disable the "Chunks fade in" mod, it adds chunk animations but doesnt work well within Distant Horizon's rendering

@@crow5228 Currently, Oculus and Iris are working on implementation of this mod (Distant Horizon).
You can, of course, try it on your own, but from what they write it is unstable and can sometimes damage entire mc.
as far as I can tell, they have closed Alpha, or now, even generally available for all (for tests),
but most of all, they want to be able to enable shaders and distant horizon with one click, without digging around in files.
