Her collaboration with Thou was incredible.
I have been listening to that album nonstop lately. Just really good music
Best album of the year
I love both of them, but I would say this album is not outstanding. It’s just Thou being Thou and ERR being ERR.
Album of the Year
yes, but Marriages is still her best ever work so far.
She's so underrated. Listen to her music, folks. It's outstanding
her last album WAS the album of the year, but if you depend on I heart radio and the Grammys you'd never know it.
Underrated in what sense? She's a niche style of music, but certainly well liked amongst people in the scene. Shes been relevant since Red Sparowes. Her and Chelsea Wolfe have a wide branch of fans, tons of insanely popular metal, post rock, and doom bands follow and comment on their Instagram stuff. It's a rare feat to be a folksy female singer able to tour with some heavy ass metalheads.
Shes only underrated if you're using the massive mainstream bands to compare her against. For a doom and gloom babe, shes definitely got all the praise and acknowledgment she deserves.
Albvs do you know what the opening song is?
Albvs it’s trash so hush
@@franklaw4305 ''You don't have to cry ''
She is fucking amazing, we need more people like her in the world
I like how she takes her time to really explain her picks well. Dope episode!
Ghost in the Shell OST...Ms Rundle has impeccable taste!
I wonder if she likes Yoko Kanno
I knew she likes metal but this totally got me, she can't be more awesome!
Definitely! That album I need to purchase.
I feel like this is the LP I've seen in the most episodes of "What's In My Bag."
Instant like for mentioning Tim Hecker. No one else makes ambient music like this man. He creates places to live. Not just music!
100% my favourite places to go on vacation
@klingt net Konoyo or the up and coming Anoyo? I loved Konoyo and liked the first single I heard off of Anoyo so, idk If I will agree with you. Either way I could see how going to a show for that sound could be pretty unnecessary.
@klingt net I think Konoyo is a good album but I probably wouldn't care to hear most of his work live in general. I see no need to stand in a crowd and listen to ambient music. I'd rather do something while having it on in the background.
@klingt net I was disappointed by Konoyo too. I liked Love Streams and Virgins is a favorite of mine, but he basically peaked on Ravedeath, I think.
If you're a fan of ambient music, my go to is 1st Vows - Songs for Disappearing and all of the Blue Sky Black Death stuff, including their solo stuff, Televangel and Young God, Kaskets, 88 Ultra, PRFCT Storm etc.
What a beautiful human being. listening to her since The Nocturnes band. I love she´s getting the recognition she deserves.
Yes to all of this. The Nocturnes are criminally underrated and unknown.
I love her in-depth descriptions of each record, great picks too. I could hang out with her all day talking records. Thanks Emma & Amoeba!
The SUSPIRIA remake is an absolute masterpiece, and the soundtrack is sublime.
Its fantastic
So, now that we have seen her collaborate with Thou, the world now needs a collaboration between Emma and Yob.
Her and Chelsea Wolfe should do an EP together
Good news!! They just released a song together called Anhedonia. Its really good
@@elyserice6581 they are gonna tour in australia together
This comment aged well. Their song is stunning
Emma should also collaborate with Cult of Luna and Julie Christmas should collaborate with Thou. Because to me that makes sense
"Smoke weed and hanging naked with your lover on a sunday album". That's insuperable!! Love ERR, her music, her musical taste... I mean Ghost In The Shell, YOB, Smashig Pumkpins... she's a beatiful human being ♥
I recorded a what's in my bag at a record store once. They had me on camera shoplifting.
She’s SO humble & personable 😌
I love ERR 🖤
To err is human, to ERR is divine 😉😌
Also, I love that she loves Emmylou Harris!!
I found two copies of The Nocturne's "Aokigahara" on vinyl at the Hollywood Amoeba (the Nocturnes is Emma's folkgaze band). They were cheap and I bought them both and sent one to a friend in Texas who also loves Emma's music. Marked for Death and Salome are two of my favorite albums, I hope she never stops making music.
This is exactly why I love Amoeba. Had never heard of Emma Ruth Rundle but she's got such sick taste that I went out and queued up some of her records to listen to. Stoked to hear by the genre tags I'm seeing. (She is also gorgeous.)
I could listen to her talk about music for hours.
I have no idea who Emma Ruth Rundle is but I knew I had to watch this, now to listen to her music! Cheers amoeba!
Duuuude listen to Kitsune by Marriages, which she sings and plays guitar in. So effing good.
Her album On Dark Horses was the album of last year for me.
@@tomtucker1984 Yeah it kicks ass. I absolutely love light song.
I'm in the same boat with you. I especially want to hear her music because she has a lot of similar interests in music as myself!
@@TC-lk2ev - Great choice. I saw Marriages open for Russian Circles and had to immediately track down their first EP
Shes a YOB fan? Jesus I love this woman. That album was my favorite of the year as well
I saw her open for yob like five years ago.
Yeah I love her too, now even more after finding that out.
The guy from yob did a cover of smashing pumpkins spaceboy, somehow I can't find it anywhere... Only with his acoustic guitar that was so awesome
Emma has amazing taste in music.. you must see her Live 😊
charming, funny and great picks. this is the first ERR interview i have seen and she is as cool and lovely as i hoped she would be after accidentally finding her music on youtube and being blown away by it.
Should watch her solo session on she did for Audiotree.
nice to hear someone who thinks before speaks. great taste!
great taste and very well spoken
This might be my favorite What's In My Bag ever. I've become a big fan of hers over the past few days, and it's really nice to see that she's so insightful about others work. It really provides a context to her own music and how her varied tastes have shaped it.
I can't say enough good things about Emma. Love her music and she is an incredible human being!
I love her - she's one of my favorite artist's and I've had the luck to attend so many live performances in the past years - solo & with band - her music is truly outstanding, as said before here in the comment section! If you never heard one of her records, go for it!
What a bright and insightful musician- I'll have to check out her catalog
I was already enchanted by Emma because of her music, but now I'm even more because of this video. She's amazing talking about music.
I love Emma Ruth Rundle I still need to catch her live but there's so much power behind her music its incredible.
I KNEW IT! Straight up I just started listening to her music with the latest album and I fell in love with the music immediately but I also immediately thought "I'm hearing a lot of the essence of Emmylou Harris here" (which is high praise from me, Emmylou is a legend). And then their names are even kind of similar I was wondering to myself if there's some kind of connection there.
Pretty satisfying to learn she's a fan, Wrecking Ball is one of my GOAT albums as well. The music consumingg public needs as many Emmylou Harris's and Emma Ruth Rundles as we can get.
And wtf she covered "All My Tears" that's sick.
But all her other picks are super solid, this woman knows what's up. Those chorus vocals from Ghost in the Shell sticks with anybody who hears it forever.
She's awesome. Siamese Dream FTW! :-) Yes, the guitar playing is "crucial."
I've had the pleasure of interviewing her and she's amazing. From Marriages through to last year's incredible solo album, I love her material.
How many of us air guitar'd and stomped on the floor to this album in our bedrooms! :-)
I was checking her out and I see you here H.
daddysensei Silver hey Lou! I really liked this What’s in My Bag episode!
The guitar on Siamese Dream is just as crucial as the guitar on In Utero. There's just so much soul in it.
clicked this so fast, love her
Oh nice, I only just started to listen to her after the Alcest episode.
me too!
I just randomly stumbled upon her music on UA-cam somehow, and so I've been bingeing ERR and Chelsea Wolfe. :)
@@donutsacrifice2588 Don't forget to listen to Marriages, too! Salome is so good.
This was on my things to watch later for a while. I haven't heard of Emma Ruth Rundle until now but her choice of tunes had me drawn in from the start. She talks about music like I talk about music too which is awesome. When she geeked out on Siamese Dream I seriously lost my shit and the way she described Billy Corgan I completely agree with. Time for a deep dive into Emma Ruth Rundle now and no doubt buying some of her stuff on vinyl too!
I just discovered her im in love her voice and the atmosphere of the music amazing!
YOB. SRSQ, and Smashing Pumpkins... she has fantastic taste in music!
I absolutely LOVE her eclectic taste in music 🖤
i LOVE her music. hell yes, thanks amoeba
I love Emma so much. She’s a true muse. Her music is so very special ❤️

Thanks for compiling this list!
I have to admit, prior to seeing this video, I had never heard of her before, but I think I'm love with her now. What a beautiful, insightful, soulful creature. Pretty awesome tastes too. Listening her KEXP live session right now.
Saw her live a few years ago, amazing songwriter, amazing voice. Highly underrated
oh my, I'm in love
I looooovvve Amoeba sooo MUCH !!! Thank you thank you thank you THANK YOU !!!!
Marriages "Salome" > fantastic record
So is Kitsune.
She's so good live!!
I don't remember how but I've got her album on my smartphone, and it's very quickly became one of my favorites. Cool girl, cool picks. Thanks for the episode!
Interesting selection, more stuff to check out. Sometimes I wish there was less music in the world.... it's overwhelming.
I never heard of her but her picks and sincerity is legit!
Yessss Emma!!! Love her so much!!
Ghost in the shell! Wonderful
She's great. Little surprise that she has such eclectic and consistently great taste.
awesome taste in music ! never heard of her but sick taste !
Definitely check her out! One of my favourite artists, and her influences are apparent throughout her works :)
same exact thing i was thinking
Love Emma and love that she mentioned SRSQ and Them Are Us Too. Remain is an amazing record, specifically Eudaemonia. Unreality is great too.
Jamie Van Beveren Same. I had the pleasure of seeing Kennedy perform 2 weeks ago, and it was completely amazing. Absolutely unforgettable. A true artist.
Joe Tumulty my dumb luck Kennedy played NY in Feb when I was in California for a few days for Warpaint’s 15th anniversary shows. Ironically I think I went to Amoeba the day she played Saint Vitus. Praying she plays around my parts again soon.
Still crushed about never getting a chance to see TAUT. RIP Cash.
Wow, that IS ironic. After this response from her latest tour with The Black Queen, I think she will be back your way sooner than later. I know... RIP Cash.
Ha, Neige also picked that Ghost in the Shell soundtrack, and he also picked her album.
She's amazing
Love this artist 🙏🏼❤️
I bought that Ted Lucas album based solely on this video, and sweet lord what an amazing musical treasure and gift that album is. Thanks Emma and Amoeba!
Love her many projects, her picks, and her descriptions. So excited to see her live at Roadburn in a couple weeks!
Quality and eclectic choices-Neige chose the GITS OST too. I love how she can appreciate varied genres. I mean, Yob (!), Tim Hecker and Balinese gamelan music! Can’t wait to see her with CoL in the spring.
She is so great
Love the range as well as the caliber of her taste, so well spoken for each of her choices too. On of my favorite 'What's in My Bag's along with Jason Mantzoukas'.
One of the best episodes of this series, great variation and sick records. Can't wait to see her at Roadburn,
Great music and great taste; love her stuff!
Love her & her taste!!
Great episode, love her explanations for her picks.
amazing choices by an amazing artist, and so gorgeous too

Foreal. Making my raw heart gush!
I yelled when she mentioned YoB. I swear.
Loooooove you so much Emma! Some Heavy Ocean is incredible ❤️
Had no idea who she was when I saw her open for Deafheaven and she blew us away! Thanks for getting her on here.
I've been listening to Engine of Hell for the past few days now and it's fucking spectacular. One of those albums you know is going down in your classics list almost immediately.
I've been obsessed with that one in the same way. Suuch a special album
Rundle is really good and Wrecking Ball is a masterpiece
Great episode v cool takes on the albums. Excited to check some out
Thanks Emma for picking Gamelan Baleganjur!
She's great
Impeccable picks. Love it.
All these records sound amazing. Going to listen up on a few.
Great Emma....now I feel like going through all these albums
Love her, she's sooo goood
I love Emma.
Every pick is solid gold. I especially love the GitS pull!
"I'm a huge fan of anime"
I didn't know this person existed until within the past 6 months and she just keeps getting cooler the more I find out about her
Got Into Emma after listening to Marriages only stunning full length. What an incredibly insightful and smart person.
Emma vibing on gamelan is the best thing I've heard all week. Much love.
