Perhaps my claim to fame will be that Emmy Ruth (and Mikki Itzigson) and I were in a band together for 5 minutes, or about 2 or three rehearsals, before she was invited to join the Red Sparrows. She sings like an angel and liked my country/Americanan songs. We had fun while it lasted, the harmonies in that group were spectacular, but it was not to be. :)
As if she said she hasn't got a good voice. Have a day off Emma! She sounds so wonderful that if I had even half that voice, I'd lock myself in a cupboard for being dangerously haunting. Binge-listening to her albums at the moment. Phenomenal stuff. Great video PG.
Saw her live last year in October in Berlin. I had discovered her a year earlier with her music being super therapeutic and just by chance found out she was playing. Absolutely worth and she sounds amazing live.
This is how Blues music started; self taught individuals just doing what feels right. If you want crazy tunings, research some of the earliest recorded players.Same went for equipment; every pickup and amp combo can get great sounds, it just takes patience to find them.Like seeing unique rigs, and even better if it's a woman; they can often bring an element otherwise missing.Micro Amp- makes it all taste good.
It's interesting to see her love for the Jaguar Baritone. I had one but had trouble fitting it into my sound. Found myself using my old Bass VI more for low end. One things for sure, I doubled the money I had into it by selling it once they stopped making them.
Great one! I'm normaly not into "modern" guitar music, but she and her music are outstanding. Emma and her band creat an almost epic sound and atmosphere.
I am like teach me about pedal voodoo. Guitars don't seem to like me but I want to do guitar stuff on basses. Emma Ruth Rundle makes such lovely musical landscapes.
30:00 when dude first started talking I was like: "Wait, isn't that the Jaye Jayle guy from that split EP???... Oh nevermind, guess it's some guy named 'Evan' who just stole his face I guess..." 😄
Its a whole different world for those who play pro rather than homeboy hobby. Most people think a sound is a sound, just hit the right note. If only... but no, every sound has its own formula. Its like going to the paint store for blue paint, only to find there are 30 different shades/textures to choose from. And just how does one learn all the electronics/effects? They don't teach that in band class. I'm amazed the #1 cause of musician deaths isn't from electrocution or exploding equipment shrapnel. And then try doing all this rigging/setup while slightly inebriated? Keep the physics class coming; I'm hoping to actually learn how to do just a little of this some day. Of course, I'd hafta sell my house to afford all this gear I didn't even know I needed.
learn??? you learn by doing. this is music everyone starts as a hobbiest, you just figure it out as you go by what sounds good to you and what works live as part of the band, thats how she and everyone does it try stuff over time trial and error. And gear that gives those sounds is cheap these days, a couple cheap pedals...reverb + delay boom done $100. Approach with zen...relax and let it happen
I do love it when a big, bad boy can....grell. My next gear shopping trip I'll ask that in fact, "What do you in the way of big, bad boys? And do these grell perchance?"
These guys always seem so unprepared for their interviews. "I see you have a guitar here" "How does that make you feel" "have you always used your fingers when playing guitar" lmao. Notice how the artists are always somewhat uncomfortable by the awkward questions and follow up questions, especially. There's always such a weird flow of conversation. They need that one girl back, she at least wasn't so socially awkward
Picks are useful for some techniques and they definitely add clarity on lower tuning. I use both depending on the situation but I get why someone would prefer fingerstyle or Andy Martin style playing
I was recently roaming the mean streets of Bend, Oregon when a bearded young man wearing tight fitting trousers approached me and said “Bro....have you heard Emma Ruth Rundle is using Guild? It’s fantastic!” I looked at him smiled and said “Little man, I have no idea what any of that means but thank you for your passion “ and went about with the rest of my afternoon.”
These comments are amazing. Simp dudes super impressed that a woman can talk guitar for 30 minutes Christ Answer me this one question... Why is there not 1, not ONE all female band that doesn’t suck?

Such a unique guitarist. Very original, I especially enjoy her work with Marriages
That guitar sound at 18:20 is wicked.
severly underrated
Joshua Burns agree. I think she should be way more rated.

“I’m not a great singer. I don’t consider myself a singer,” she says.
Most dont when they are incredible
Been waiting for this! My favorite artist currently.
It's interesting to see her love for the Jaguar Baritone. I had one but had trouble fitting it into my sound. Found myself using my old Bass VI more for low end. One things for sure, I doubled the money I had into it by selling it once they stopped making them.
She’s so great. This rules!!
I'm pretty stoked to see her when she's on tour with MONO this summer!!

love me some ERR! Thanks for sharing this rig info. Chris, what are those shoes you're wearing?
you guys should do rig rundown for instrumental bands like LITE and whatnot
Awesome
the way she talks about open tunings makes me think she's possibly influenced by early A Perfect Circle
That Guild is a beaut!

Everyone should watch GILEAD Media records documentary. She’s so awesome in it. Well she’ is always but she is particularly great in it…
so that residue between the pick ups would be from her nails from strumming?
That and the resin she uses for her chello bow on guitar
Is riff at 18:00 from any of her songs?
Dead Set Eyes, if you haven’t found it yet!
Evan is such a cool looking dude.
RIG RUNDLE

She's so KEWL
Please do a Marbin rig rundown
I love love my Palisades ....its a tube screamer on steriods

I greatly enjoyed the awkwardness.
there is none, he's just being polite to the lady instead of bro-ish like usual w dudes, ...that and/or he has a lil crush
