The scariest part about the imaginary friend story is that its extremely probable the main character is actually just a paranoid schizophrenic. They talk a lot about feeling constantly watched, and the pack of wild dogs chasing them is very similar to many common paranoid schizophrenic delusions of being stalked/gang stalked. To me that is far more scary than actual monsters, because it means that they're just killing and shoving random peoples teeth in a doll while believing that doing it is saving them.

To this day Candle Cove is still one of my absolute favorite creepypastas all time. I loved the way it was written as if it was multiple people talking on a forum and the pay off at the end haunted me when I was a teenager.
Shane has the right vibe for horror stories, the creepy ones that give a chill up your entire spine is like a drug I crave. Some of these nailed it, thank yoU!
If you're interested in the reason why they're called creepypasta: Early in internet culture of the 00's, it became common to find particularly silly or unhinged strings of text (usually originating as comments in forums) and to take these silly things and just copy + paste them in response to random things or as reactions to posts. Kind of like an early version of a text-based meme, but always copy + pasted verbatim. They were called "copypastas" after the phrase to "copy + paste." Then, when people started writing these scary stories and posting them around, they were dubbed "creepypastas," as a portmanteau of "copypasta" and "creepy."
Okay, this NEEDS to become a reoccurring thing. reading creepy stories in the dark like this made for such a good video please keep this up in some way.
AMANDA you have saved me for years of being confused as to why beetlejuice doesnt have a scene on a big party boat or a crazy guy in a full green suit. I thought i was going mad and made a whole movie up!!!!
fr! there's something about the way shayne reads these stories that makes them hit harder. he's not playing it up or getting into the theater of it, which makes the story shine even more. it's like a neutral presentation of facts that makes even stories I've heard before feel refreshing 😁
What I find so cool about the distorted warnings one is that I keep wondering who the unknown caller is. Like is it the woman herself from other dimensions trying to communicate to herself? Maybe the catastrophes wouldn’t happen if the woman didn’t answer the phone. So maybe she is safe in her apartment after all. Or she would be if she didn’t listen to the message. What if somehow the woman is causing the catastrophes by not participating in them. I have so many questions. It’s such a cool concept
My hunch leans on the fact that the narrator describes the caller's voice in that last message as a woman's voice sounding "as if her throat had been sliced to ribbons." She didn't note this quality in the other calls, even though those voices were garbled as well. It's my interpretation that every call is from a version of the narrator from an alternate sequence of events where she did die in these incidents, sent to warn her by some cosmic force or quirk of fate.
@silverfiore01 The specific wording is what I'm talking about. "Sliced to ribbons," has a specific implication when used the way the narrator does. "Shredded," as in destroyed by a wild, chaotic force, like the airplane crash. "Sliced to ribbons," is more subdued, intentional. It's likely that there was a home invader that killed the narrator shortly after the story ended by slicing her throat.
My take is that homegirl was so unlucky she needed her dead alternate selves to warn her because damn was she good at ending up in bad situations, until her 'luck' ran out, that is
The Simpsons one is probably implying that Matt Groening knows when the end of the world is as the Simpson always predicts the future and Matt has been accused of being a time traveler. hence creating Futurama and Homer “jokingly” but accurately writing the equation for the God Particle in an episode. The equation was written down in the episode before the Higgs Boson and particle accelerator experiments.
@@humphreybiggins8295 Yes, it's true. A decade before it was discovered. However, a few caveats. For one, Homer's formula predicted the mass of the Higgs boson, but was off by a factor of about 6. That seems like a lot, but apparently that was still impressively close. Also, the Simpsons writer that wrote this formula is a mathematician, who contacted an astronomer friend to work on the formula together. Lastly, the Higgs Boson was first proposed in the sixties, so they had been working on discovering it for a while before that episode of the Simpsons came out. Just google "simpsons higgs boson", plenty of articles about it. It's really cool, and quite a bit of coincidence that they got as close to the correct answer as they did. But no future predicting powers or time travel would need to be involved.
@@humphreybiggins8295 as far as I know (internet 🤔) yes. They asked some of the writers who are mathematicians and super nerds about it. that video is on UA-cam. They were off by like one number on the Simpson episode years before it was proven.

Here Are Some Creepy Pasta Recommendations For Amanda And Shayne: - The Disappearance of Ashley, Kansas (i HIGHLY recommend this one) - Pen Pal - Psychosis - The Left Right Game - Tales From the Gas Station (This one is funny yet slightly horrifying at the same time, I also highly recommend it)
The left right game is so good! I found the podcast of it a few years ago, and switched to the original version written on reddit a few chapters in. I've been thinking about rereading it, or listening to the podcast for a while now.
Goddamn, it's been a long time since I've seen people talking about Psychosis. That one shook me to the core because of the uncertainty of the senses of the protag while reading it. It was so good. I hope they check it out
Drop Dead Fred is an early 90s misunderstood masterpiece. I adore it and it’s incredibly sweet behind all of the crazy over the top comedy. A true 90s oddity gem. Rik Mayall is a comedic genius.
Shayne, Amanda, I'm sorry but we NEED more of this format. It can't be just a Halloween special 😭 I'd watch an entire series of y'all talking about creepy stuff ngl.
i've watched 8hrs of creepypasta iceberg, read and listened to hundreds of creepypastas, and still shayne found a story i haven't an idea about. bravo shayne. bravo creepypastas
@@AnneZomerdijk-nv9ye I’m curious abt that as well. My guess is maybe the phone one bc that one likely isn’t as popular as the others. I haven’t been as involved with creepy pastas but I’ve at least vaguely heard abt a good bit of these. I don’t think I’ve heard of the phone call warning one.
Shayne has the energy of one of those kids that always read out of the textbooks really good and everybody always made that kid read for the class because they did it so well whenever I hear him read reddit stories and these creepypastas
How about introducing Amanda (and possibly Shayne?) to SCPs next? Similar origin to creepypastas and I can see the redacted descriptions of weird shit and how they're contained tickling Amanda's love of horror 💁♀ I feel like these would be up Spencer or Alex T's sleeve
The complete 180 from the expectation of potentially seeing an extremely creepy smiling dog to what I saw after clicking on the link to the picture gave me a whiplash. One of the funniest things I've seen.
It's so funny seeing the different reactions to the image. Some people are like "its super creepy and scary" and others just think its funny; when I saw it I actually laughed lol.
The reason I'm not going to click the smile dog link is because I know I'm going to convince myself that it's real and give myself the nightmares from the story 💀💀
How have I not even thought about that?? But you're so right. What would Amanda be an avatar of? No matter what it is it's 100% her just being swept into it (probably by shayne) and ending up as an avatar. Michael Shelley style. Wait does that imply that shayne is Gertrude
@@rebeccapach6420 I see Shayne more as a Jonathan Sims type. Mostly because I find it funny to imagine Jon saying "Okay, Update..." Whenever the research team follows up on a statement. I think Amanda could be a servant of The Lonely, because of how scared she got while playing FNAF 2 when Shayne "left her hanging." Or because of her TNTL character who gets left alone at parties and concerts.
Amanda saying Drop Dead Fred is SCARY made me cackle, it's genuinely one of the funniest feel good movies! Rik Mayall was a gem that we truly didn't deserve
this is so crazy. i’m taking an urban legends class at my college rn, and *today* was our lecture on creepypastas. we talked about candle cove, ben drowned, polybius, slenderman, and a bunch of other stories of the like. this is giving *me* deja vu … our professor recommended a show called “channel zero”. they created an episode of candle cove, and the first season surrounds that creepypasta.
Channel zero is a masterpiece of a show. Every season is a banger (although the final one less so). My favorite is the one based off of the story Amanda and Shayne read last video about the creepypasta of the search and rescue guy who finds staircases in the woods. Also the house one is incredible.
I could listen to Shane read creepypastas and Amanda react to them for hours. I remember Smile Dog and the Rake. You should do more throughout the year.
The russian sleep experiment image f'd with me when I first saw it when I was younger. Crazy how much a random image with no connection to you can mess with you
It's so interesting seeing whether people prefer the more paranormal/supernatural type horror versus the true crime/real life style horror because I cannot watch paranormal/supernatural horror stuff very often because it freaks me out, but have no issue listening to stories about serial killers and unsolved crimes.
i like paranormal stuff if it's well done & not cheesy bc real life stories upset me usually. old gods of appalachia, the silt verses, etc etc stuff like that. it's my fav kind of horror media to consume.
I can handle true crime bc I know it can't impact me because its a human often from a long time ago or in another country. but paranormal/supernatural things are more unknown and I feel like if I think about it too much I might conjure them into my reality or nightmares 😂😅
@jodi4558 I think that's part of it for me too! Obviously true crime is more likely to happen than ghosts or demons or something, but also that means true crime is at least the result of humans. I'd probably still lose fighting a human, but at least I know where to aim or theoretically what to do. How do I avoid or protect myself from some ghost, demon, or idk, Mothman???
It's crazy that after years of not hearing about it, the story that scared me the MOST as a child, to the point I couldn't sleep well for years, you guys tell the story of the Rake.

One of my favorite creepypastas to this day is Penpal. I listen to it at least once every six months or so. It’s so good. And it’s scary in a very real world kind of way. I honestly think it would be a great one for the Smosh cast to read.

It’s not an exact match, but the imaginary friend story reminds me of episode 86 of the Magnus Archives. The final like of that one literally makes me shiver it’s so unnerving.
Next time, you should *totally* introduce her to "Anansi's Goatman." It's one I keep coming back to read because not only is the story captivating, but the way it's narrated sounds like a family member is telling me about this crazy thing they went through.

@@GPower542love the reply to yourself after you figured out what it was 😂
this is an amanda style comment
If you're interested in the reason why they're called creepypasta:
Early in internet culture of the 00's, it became common to find particularly silly or unhinged strings of text (usually originating as comments in forums) and to take these silly things and just copy + paste them in response to random things or as reactions to posts. Kind of like an early version of a text-based meme, but always copy + pasted verbatim. They were called "copypastas" after the phrase to "copy + paste."
Then, when people started writing these scary stories and posting them around, they were dubbed "creepypastas," as a portmanteau of "copypasta" and "creepy."
@@GPower542 well you know this is the second in the series, they did this last Halloween
Okay, this NEEDS to become a reoccurring thing. reading creepy stories in the dark like this made for such a good video please keep this up in some way.

I was about to comment this! I'd listen to a legit audiobook with him reading
fr! there's something about the way shayne reads these stories that makes them hit harder. he's not playing it up or getting into the theater of it, which makes the story shine even more. it's like a neutral presentation of facts that makes even stories I've heard before feel refreshing 😁
@daa5865 new side job unlocked!
My take was that she could no longer avoid her inevitable fate. Yours is a really interesting take too!
@@Dex-ik4js Well the first call says the voice sounds strange as if her vocal cords had been shredded
My take is that homegirl was so unlucky she needed her dead alternate selves to warn her because damn was she good at ending up in bad situations, until her 'luck' ran out, that is
I love creepypasta so much! I even have a tattoo of my favorite story ‘Ben Drowned’ (legend of Zelda Link with bloody eyes in majora’s mark setting).

Ohhhh this makes so much sense. Thank you!
@@sharkbait398 🫡🫡🫡
wait what? the god particle equation? is this real???? it was in a simpsons episode before if was actually created?? 😂
They were off by like one number on the Simpson episode years before it was proven.

this is so crazy. i’m taking an urban legends class at my college rn, and *today* was our lecture on creepypastas. we talked about candle cove, ben drowned, polybius, slenderman, and a bunch of other stories of the like. this is giving *me* deja vu … our professor recommended a show called “channel zero”. they created an episode of candle cove, and the first season surrounds that creepypasta.
