I've never seen an Avante run this long without breaking.

Tamiya do just keep reeling me in! Was so close to splashing the cash on a Traxxas Rustler, as fancied the speed and jumps you can get out of it out of the box. But the trouble is with the Traxxas stuff is, that is all they are is speed. They just don't have the character that these old school Tamiyas have. Hope that this gets some good availability in the UK, cause I'd love one!

If you think it's good on gravel you should see how it runs on clay or hard-pack. This thing was meant for smooth tracks.
No reverse on speedo = keep fit setting...... when it gets stuck you run to free it. 🤣🤣
I remember the first time I saw one of these race. Indoors, on carpet with mini spikes.

Definitely not a failure to put the centre diff in! It could be your ball diff (if fitted) need adjusting to make it a bit stiffer or if you have the stock planetary gearing put thicker grease in them?......avante's are just the most beautiful rc buggy ever!😍

I always loved the look of the Avante. I use to race competitively when these first came out. I drove a yokomo dog fighter. My memory of them from back when they were originally released was that they just didn't handle well, perhaps over engineered and a bit heavy. But the design is just beautiful.

The standard set-up makes it fairly twitchy. Put some heavier wt oil in the front shocks (for instance 30wt rear, 35wt front), give the front wheels toe-out, put some Tamiya AW grease into the front diff and replace the front stabiliser with a slightly stiffer one, or make one from a thin bicycle spoke. It'll make the Avante very obedient.
Still one of the best looking RC buggies ever :D
My favorite looking is still the grasshopper. Or the brat, or sand scorcher, or avante, or hopper 2, or.................

I'm running the one way bearing in mine, I don't really like the way it drives as you lose breaking and it spins out too. I'm considering changing it to the locked setup. Great video Glenn.
Yeah I haven’t tried that yet, as you say you lose so much breaking ability, not sure what the actual benefits are tbh 🤔🤷🏼♂️
@@TAMIYALegends Yeah i think the Avante might be a bit too heavy for the center diff too be very useful, though suspension right now is very soft still I'd say for onroad use.
The weight shifts around on the car so it looses grip quite quickly.
If you got any stiffer springs too put in it that are perhaps a bit shorter as well too keep the buggy low, give that a try along with if you can check the center of gravity on the chassis.
At least on pavement & dirt it doesn't have much use of it out of the box.
On something like indoor carpet racing on foam tires you might get more use of it being able too lock up the rear quicker then the front too throw it around the corners kind of like handbrake turns which if done right is quick.
But it doesn't quite work on less grippy surfaces if you don't have the tune for it which can on a buggy like this become very difficult without putting on parts that are from the later revisions of the chassis.
Feel free too bring out the Cat XLS & Optima turbo on these road tires & experiment with the suspension on those as well too get a general idea of it all.
Rc buggy racing tends too do lines very closely too rc touring cars kind of sweeping through wider turns where consistency matters over max acceleration on the track 99% of the time & lining up jumps straight ofc unless you are fighting off people while in 1st place you tend too drive a bit more defensively.
Glenn the vanquish is coming back out in December it might have a different decal sheet based on the mini version also they're bringing back out the 2011 rere of the Avante.

This was one of my favorites as well, very scifi looking, absolutely one of the faves in this style of RC car even though I prefer more realistic cars overall, the 12 year old in me still think this is badass hehe

If your running soft and hard tyres together you always put the soft grippier tyres to the rear... we use to lock up the centre diff

Check that center diff bolt, sounds like its not tightened all the way down possibly slipping too much. My rere had loosened and sounded similar. I think I ended up ditching the center diff for the torque splitter in the end.
Yeah no adjustment on that thing, it’s ether tight or it’s not 😬
I’m not overly keen on the splitter as I like my 4 wheel breaking 🤷🏼♂️
I am tempted to fit the locked centre to see how that runs 🤔

On road the centre diff causes a lot of front tier wheel spin especially when turning under power. I replaced mine with the egress centre gear and it drive much better.
You need to put this thing on a proper 1/10th scale track where it was meant to be driven. I know they're rare, expensive "gems" but I wish people were more willing to run them at least in the controlled environment of a 1/10th scale indoor track.
Its quick with that motor but imagine it with a brushless motor😁 She would move like Jagger👍

Yeah I use to be like that with them, but I’ve mellowed in my old age 🤪👊🏻
The reason these cars flopped in racing was because they had tragic handling, front end causes most of the problems which is why the Egress and Vanquish got narrower front wheels.
The over engineering was it's pitfall as, so much time was needed to set it up and make it handle half decent.
This and the Egress, still the best looking RC cars ever along with my personal fave, the Hornet.
I still want an Avante.

Try a savox 1258tg servo. A faster servo will totally improve the steering. I believe you are not getting straight lines fast enough. The servo is not centering fast enough. ✌️

My center diff melted the gears. I am waiting on the torque splitter, containing a locked spur and front and rear ball diffs. Hope it will be epic=)
I put in the locked spur, built and installed front and rear ball diffs, and mounted a tourque tuned silvercan and I think it bent the motorplate slightly so the lip on the gearbox cover wouldnt go down over the alloy plate and the white bit holding the spur. I changed back to the avante motor, and still same problem, forward it sounds great, break or backwards raspy as hell. I found a small washer that I fit behing the rear bearing on the spur. No play, great mesh, 21 tooth pinion. Have a 13turn ballraced brushed motor for it, but need a 16-17tooth pinnion......

Ok I will be honest, I had gREt gopw for the Avanti. I was running for te LOSI= at the time. Avanti is my favourite RC car There is a bit of an issue with it thugh, If you let somebody drive one and they hit something the repair is quit the issue. very f

You can see the back end giving up as soon as you came off the throttle. You're dead right, it's most likely the tyres.
