I didn't even know people had a bad outlook on them. I always liked them. Tamiya for me is one of those companies that gets a pass even if they make a bad car sometimes. Tamiya got so many of us into this hobby, they've built as many dreams as they have rc cars. Maybe this car isn't their best, but even still, it looks awesome and you whipped it around that track pretty well I thought. That's the kind of car I'd buy, assemble, then put on display more than drive. It still has that tamiya charm sitting still at least.
Never ever had something to do with Tamiya or RC from the 80s to 2010. Got to this brand and since wonder why I also think also that way. Strange. What's with them?
I hear it was over engineered and unnecessarily complicated. Along with that they were expensive and delicate. My friend's dad had one and literally never drove it. That said, at 11 years old, I had never seen another RC as beautiful and coveted and the original avante - it was a masterpiece for tamiya
Same here, I used to race it. The car was a pain to service it, and was taking so much play everywhere. What Tamiya has done on the Egress and the Vanquish were better solution. Less eyes catcher, but working better.
Cons: -The rear link of the lower front suspension arm consists of a thick metal threaded rod screwing into a plastic sleeve. The penetration depth is less than the diameter of the metal rod. This is an extremely fragile link that cannot withstand a single collision. -The front link of the rear suspension arm is a fusion of metal and plastic. During a collision, the plastic content of the link will take the full impact. -The camlock wheels are not fully adjustable. You have to use one of the slots in the wheel. Eventually, the camlock threads will strip, and you will have to use conventional lug nuts. -If you use the driver doll and you are not using the Tamiya ADSPEC receiver/ESC combination unit, then it is a really tight fit for the electronics. -The car is heavy and has poor weight distribution. In Radio Control Car Action's (RCCA's) 4WD Shootout in Dec 1988, 4 4WD cars were tested. The Avante was the heaviest and had the most uneven weight distribution. It also came in dead last in the race. Pros: -The transmission is smooth and reliable and has no obstructions. -The steering linkage is smooth and reliable and has strong bellcranks. The geometry of the bellcranks assures there is little or no vertical bending moment of force.
You have a new sub! Thanks for the awesome running review! 👍It’s refreshing to see an old-school Tamiya legend trying to clear the ramps and corners in the race track. Great insights and useful tips too!
What a fantastic review! Funnily enough, I ran the Nor-Cal hobbies carpet track for the first time this weekend, and it was in that exact same configuration! The Avante is in my opinion, one of the best looking RC cars ever produced, and I bought one recently. I would LOVE to watch you run this thing on a 13.5t setup! The way you took to the track was mesmerizing.
Ive had some really bad times putting acetone on polycarb, fogged it and made it brittle. That was a pro-line body. Tamiya polycarb cleaner is perfect for taking paint off 👍
I'd love to see you grab something like a Tamiya 4WD TT-02B (~$120) or 2WD DT-03 (~$90) and then doing a series of attempting to get it to perform well on a track (either Dirt or Carpet, Dirt might be more fun though). I'm not expecting them to be anywhere near as good as a full purpose built modern buggy but it would be cool to see how far you can actually push them. I know EuroRC and Tamico over in Europe stock quite a lot of hop-ups but RCMart in Hong Kong is the king of stuff like that.
That is our released kit right I'm wondering if they still have any of those available I bet they're all done just shame I wish I had one and the original?
No the Avante is a fine vintage kit! although the rerelease front springs are overly stiff! Over compensating for the slightly soft springs of the original version
Needs better tires for carpet. But I don't think that will save it. But it sure does make a nice shelf queen not sure about it's capabilities anything else, in today's standards
Nice to see it run! Where’s Paranoid Perry, no Perry in the buggy!! 😢 I have a rere 2011 Avanti but don’t want to run, keeping it nice and fresh in its box
When I finish building my Re-Re Optima Mid I might actually race it once just for 💩&🤣 When these cars were designed nobody would have thought racing off-road would mean racing on carpet with jumps I still miss the clay at NorCal don’t miss the cleanup 🤷♂️
Great looking build and considering the setup, did pretty good. A little tweaking and it will dramatically improve. A brushless would give you the speed you need but really, kinda defeats the purpose of a vintage build. Good job 👍
Sounded rough off the jumps. Different shock oil weight and different holes definitely required. I definitely don't think it is worth the price that they are selling it for. $260-290 USD yes. Way over priced if you ask me.
$500? wow I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering how much the VQS retailed at. I still want one but resellers are asking for 600-700. I'm surprised this kit wasn't released in the states (yet hopefully).
No, it’s not a bad car at all. Workmen, tools. Indeed, it’s a fantastic looking and performing car, both this one and its slightly older 2011 brother. The original ones were pretty awful, back in the day, because they were far too weak to drive in anything like a spirited fashion. Why this slack-jawed loafer and his tiny channel have spent so much time and effort (not to mention the cost of the kit) on ragging the thing is a mystery for better minds than mine and FAR better kinds than his :) :) I say that from the standpoint of thinking myself an absolute dunce, just to be clear about things.
Thats the polycarbonate under tray making that noise..It protects the lower chassis and keeps the carpet fibers or dirt out ..But he's running a entry level brushed system so he doesn't have the speed to clear the jumps properly
@@barrysrcdump3557 That and the rear metal links hitting the carpet.. Razor said he needs to tune the rear still.. yes certain vintage RC's are expensive for sure

Somone once told me.... Associated and Losi win races, but Tamiya wins hearts.
@@airtec87 that's a good one. I can get on board with that.

I got one from my in 1988 and that thing was the fastest thing on the block. I was the only one with a Tamya.

Still are!

Ive always wanted a Avante. The design is so cool on these cars. Hopefully one day I can buy and build my own kit.
I love them, and most Tamiya stuff for that matter

Man this is a gorgeous buggy! 🔥🔥🔥
Looks like some heavier weight oil in them shocks would benefit. Pretty cool rig. My childhood was mostly Tamiya rigs.
Well it looks COOL 👍🏼

One of the first rc cars I drove when I was 8 years old. I never realized that a car from the 90s would sell on eBay for over $800 heavily used.
Slappin that ass. I cringe every time on those bigger jumps. But hey it's a classic Tamiya with unique looks. Thanks for the review 👍
Love tamiya cars
It deserves a fast brushless.
It can't take a fast brushless. It's all plastic gears. But a 17.5 or 13.5 would be perfect.
@@VestedUTuber I think I higher then those because I have 3800 k on my super hot shot and 3600kv on my Terra scorcher.
Avante is not about race results, but about aesthetic.

Nice and cheap too
Beautiful paint job!

ottima recensione!Che tipo di servo hai montato?
That Avante is way out of its comfort zone on thee modern carpet tracks, it looks really heavy and lacks oomph. But oh man it looks beautiful.

Runs good..13.5 brushless and shock tuning with proper carpet tires next?
So what I hear in this video is “buy this, build it and shelf queen it”. 😂. Looks like a wild fun build for sure. Thanks for taking it to the track.
