the recent VF5 Ultimate Showdown update 2.0 is probably the closest one to the GGX 1,5 update mostly because it adds stuffs that the newest game, VF5 REVO had, sans the Rollback netcode
Tekken 5 has the arcade exclusive 5.1 update. It has different life bars and lighting on the characters select. Not sure about balance changes but i think it removes Steve's infinite.

Speaking of Kingdom Hearts if theirs one part of Disney that I wish was represented in the earlier Kingdom Hearts games it would probably be Ghibli because around the time the first two Kingdom Hearts games came out Disney had owned the distribution rights to Ghibli’s film catalog which technically makes their films eligible to be represented as worlds in the Kingdom Hearts series. Unfortunately the chances of Ghibli films being represented in the Kingdom Hearts series is pretty slim because Disney never renewed their contract with Ghibli and because of this Ghibli would sign a contract with GKIDs who are now the distributors for their films in the west. Though recently LucasFilms and Ghibli did team up to produce a short film based on Baby Yoda from the Mandolorian TV series so maybe their is still chance for Ghibli to get into Kingdom Hearts but that’s just wishful thinking.
I don't think Disney had the right to do that. They were the distributor, but they didn't own the movies, they didn't have the video game right on them. They would have had to negociate those specifically.
@@emperormegaman3856 True, they were only distributors and if Square wanted to add worlds based on Ghibli films they would have negotiate with some of the people at Ghibli to get the green lite to put worlds based on their films into the Kingdom Hearts series. It’s a crime shame too because while admittedly I am more a fan of Disney and Pixar I still think Ghibli is a great film studio and it would have been cool to see their films represented in KH in some capacity but unfortunately such a thing can’t happen now due to Disney not renewing their contract with Ghibli.

If you look it up you can find a pretty complex guide to the system mechanics and changes in MB here on UA-cam.
@@TheSeventhForce Red Reload does have slight balance differences. Think of Blue reload as an emergency patch we might get these days, it fixed bugs & gameplay stuff that the devs did not see during development
I can think of *one* more game that’s akin to GGX1.5 (an older iteration of a fighter with backported QoL changes): Melty Blood Re-Act Final Tuned, which takes the PC indie version of MB and brings in changes from the 1st arcade release, Act Cadenza.
WOW I knew Budokai 3 had some balance changes, but I never knew the Greatest Hits had that much, jeez Louise! It's one of my favorite fighters, I might chase down the HD collection just for that. And while it isn't exactly as obscure as anything on this list, I feel like PSone version of MvC 1 (known as MvC:EX in Japan) is a really unique game that could use more exploration, because to me the characters feel more like their MvC 2 counterparts than the original MvC1(an obvious notable one is Captain Commando "dropping" opponents in mid-Captain Sword)
@TheSeventhForce I looked up dates, and there isn't even four full months between the PSone MvC1 and MvC2's initial release. I had no idea they were THAT close to one another
interesting note to add on with budokai 3, infinite world also exists. it didnt sell well to my knowledge, but despite the name its basically budokai 3+. story mode got cut for something much less cool, but it has a lot of new GT characters, the RPS dragon rush system totally axed among other systems, and these new insanely strong non-cinematic supers for a lot of characters. also this really cool superdash thing. im curious if its more similar to the original release, or the greatest hits version actually. i also never knew i had the proper greatest hits release as a kid! i distinctly remember reading the in-depth movelists when i was little, and always thought i was going crazy when I'd emulate the game as an adult. that makes sense now. great video!
@@minoid Yep, I'm a big fan of Infinite World as well! It's kinda hard to compare it to any one version of B3 since a lot of how it functions is taken straight from the PSP Shin Budokai games (The general faster game speed, non cinematic ultimates, the Aura mechanic, the dash mechanic) and then there's a lot of unique little wrinkles IW specifically adds on top of that. Last I checked, Yamcha was considered one of the best characters in the game because Dimps' seemingly programmed his basic punch string to outprioritize damn near everything, and that's definitely not something he could do in any release of B3, lol
@TheSeventhForce wait that yamcha bit goes so hard. i have to go look at that sometime lmao my friends and i run late night AI brackets of that game from time to time, its crazy how cool that game still is.
Just reading the title, might as well make this entire video about Darkstalkers/Vampire Hunter/Savior lol. Capcom in general has a surprising amount of forgotten updates.
I thought about including VSav2/VHun2, but figured Capcom Fighting Collection being a thing might've exposed them to more people. And there's some good videos already covering them 😂
25:59 It got a single "world" arcade release, and contains U.S.A. and Export region options in the test menu. Sadly, changing to these region settings classifies the minors' ages.
Pretty interesting vid, as for fighting game updates... maybe look into the multiple versions of Marvel vs Capcom 1, I remember there's a few differences between arcade, ps1, and dreamcast. I also never played it on dreamcast, but remember there for whatever reason was a screen shot of like level 9 meter. One more to look into is Fighting EX Layer to Fighting EX Layer Another Dash (Exclusive on Switch)
@@Sin606 The meter thing is from the training mode; the console ports had some additional UI tweaks to indicate things like infinite meter and assists for that mode. Another Dash is a good pick as well!
My real takeaway is how hard that Dissidia subtitle goes, *Universal Tuning.* For some reason that gets me thinking of a turning fork that vibrates to the universe's very frequency Square in general had that on lock. Versus XIII is a much cooler name than just Final Fantasy XIII, also. Not surprised Infogrames under their Atari costume bungled the GH thing. Atari post-1983 is basically a zombie. Existing in name only, I mean, hotels, cryptocurrency? Anyhow, Guilty Gear X 1.5 is very on the nose. Like, very honest name
People give Square a lot of grief for their game titles, and while some are definitely silly, there's just something so videogame-y and uniquely _Square_ about them that I can't help but love them. And yeah, agreed on Atari. In all fairness to whomever's using the name now, they seem to be intent on preserving Atari software of all generations, which is nice; It was usually only ever 2600 games that pop up in compilations in prior years.
@@TheSeventhForce That's true. Both things, guy in charge actually cares. I mean, Atari 50 is one of the best, most in depth compilations of all time And that's because they just didn't give Digital Eclipse ROMs and called it a day, they even bought them outright IIRC. They were just very cooperative with them
My earliest drafts of this video script actually had that game in here but along the way, I guess I just forgot, lol. Might circle around to this subject again in the future though, it'll definitely be included if I do.

Aromiswave released after the Naomi, and it was just a Dreamcast like you said so less powerful than the Naomi. Maybe the lack of added power played into making 1.5 instead of putting XX on it
If you like Budokai 3, check out DBZ Infinite World and the Budokai 4 mod project for it. Infinite World is like the Ultimate Mix of The Budokai Games and The PSP games. Best Gameplay in the Budokai series, and Budokai 4 changes it to be more competitively oriented
Also for Music Copyright Stuff, turn music off during recording and play music over the footage, find a midi version of a song from the game for general b-roll music and only use music from the game when completely necessary.
Actually ya know what, scratch what I said in my last comment, because I do have a couple of re-releases to mention, Tekken 6 Bloodline Rebelion, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited and Tekken 7 Fated Retribution, these were revisions of the Arcade versions of Tekken 6, Tag 2 and 7 of course, but the thing is, those versions came out before the home releases, meaning that most people, especially in regions outside Japan probably don't even know that the versions we have on consoles are re-releases; Granted you probably wouldn't have much to talk about, I guess maybe talk about the OG arcade versions mostly? (And because I feel like mentioning this as well, Soulcalibur 3 Arcade Edition, which was released after SC3 was out on the PS2, which did have a few interesting changes)
Some of these I actually thought of, the main thing was what you pointed out; the console versions are based off those updated arcade releases; People probably aren't aware they're updates, but they know what's in the game. SC3 Arcade is a good shout though!
Sorry to correct but it was not that +R title update that gave it rollback. +R came out in 2012-2013 and did not have rollback until 2020 when they were testing rollback before releasing strive

Soul Calibur III Arcade Edition The Arcade update of sorts includes three returning fighters not present in the original PS2 version. I know these film are kind of debatable if their Christmas films or not but some of my favorite would be Die Hard, Gremlins,Trading Places, Edward Scissorhands and Terry Gilliam’s Brazil just a name a few.
Street Fighter Zero 3 Upper (SEGA NAOMI) This update is based off the Dreamcast "Saikyo Dojo" version and includes all available characters from the PS1/DC version, VMU functionality where you can play as the character you leveled up in the console World Tour mode, and has some alleged gameplay bug/glitch fixes. This update actually wasn't well liked Japanese arcades and the original CPS-2 version is still the preferred among competitive players even today.
Clive would be a no brainer addition, definitely. Jack would be *incredibly* interesting considering the story relations Dissidia, FF1 and SoP all have with each other with Garland being a major thing in all three.
Well I knew about DOA++, but I definitely didn't know out the rest, there's some interesting stuff in here that's for sure. Not sure what else I could add though. (Although I can name another greatest hits game that was an update, Silent Hill 2)
Honestly I never was a fan when game companies did these kind of practices because I feel like you should put as much content into the original release rather than just constantly releasing the same game over and over again. For example UMVC3 is an incredible fighting game due its new characters and better looking UI but I sometimes wished that Capcom could have just put all this new content in the original release rather than making consumers buy another version of the same game because personally if I was game developer I would rather put in a much content in a vanilla release rather than making another version with new content.
I'm pretty sure that Accent Core and XX are two completely different games, considering that they have different stories. If Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge can be considered different from Darkstalkers 1 despite having even less changes, then XX and AC should get the same treatment.
@@otaking3582 You're not wrong, but most GG fans I've talked to tend to consider X -> XX the only major sequel delineation of the X entries and just group Slash & Accent Core onwards as updates, so for the sake of simplicity, I went with that.
@@TheSeventhForce Thats mainly because of the lack of information on the content of these games, the story stuff was & still is very niche. One world that I have mixed feelings about being in Kingdom Hearts 4 is Star Wars because on one hand I think if done right a world based on the original Star Wars trilogy could be amazing but on the other hand I kinda don’t want the Kingdom Hearts series be bombarded with Disney’s massive monopoly and I think they should stick to films that Disney made. The only film company that Disney owns that I’m okay with being represented in the Kingdom Hearts is Pixar but stuff like Marvel I can do without since most of those films have pretty drab and forgettable environments which would look boring in Kingdom Hearts. Though admittedly I would like to see Studio Ghibli’s films represented as world in Kingdom Hearts even though Disney doesn’t really own Ghibli’s films so they may have to negotiate with some of the Ghibli staff to approve it.
Since your a SEGA fan I was wondering what were your thoughts on the Sonic Racing Crossroads because personally speaking it looks pretty disappointing to me since it looks it’s just following in the same foot steps as Team Sonic Racing which if that’s the case then that really sucks because SEGA has so many incredible franchises and I really eat SEGA to make a true sequel SEGA All Stars Racing Transformed that not only brings back SEGA characters but also adds new SEGA characters such as Kiryu Kazuma, Arle Nadja, Segata Sanshiro and Axel Stone just to name a few.
Yeah Dragon Rush essentially being RPS (and locking certain ultimates behind it) brings down Budokai 3 a bit. I still prefer 3/Shin Budokai/Infinite World overall though, if only for actually having defensive mechanics.
Infinite Word has always been my favorite alternative. It’s basically B3 without DR and an added dash mechanic. Burst Limit would’ve been 👌🏽 if they at least went to the Buu saga.
Go for it! 👍The only versions I'll probably talk about in the future are the PS2 and eventual CFC2 version of Upper (The former moreso than the latter)

I didn't think about the original NAOMI MIDIs being an issue for new characters, that makes a lot of sense.
2:14 For context, that rollback netcode wasn't added until the 2020s, not said 2012 release. I vividly recall playing online with friends before then, and it was absolutely miserable.
@@Hieropink Yeah, I should've clarified that the rollback was a recent thing
the recent VF5 Ultimate Showdown update 2.0 is probably the closest one to the GGX 1,5 update
mostly because it adds stuffs that the newest game, VF5 REVO had, sans the Rollback netcode
Tekken 5 has the arcade exclusive 5.1 update. It has different life bars and lighting on the characters select. Not sure about balance changes but i think it removes Steve's infinite.
4:28 not exactly but after the release of Vampire Savior in 1997, 2 revisions were made. Vampire Hunter 2 and Vampire savior 2. Outside of music and stage colors being shifted, they both essentially exist only for roster purposes. Vampire Savior jad to cut 3 characters to add in new ones and so VH2 adding back those characters in exchange for the new ones and VS2 got rid of 3 other characters to add them back
13:03 “Capsule Obtain” being such a blatant rip off of September right down to the bassline is still one of the funniest things ever.
Also I’d love to see a Dissidia video from you!
@@JuiceboxJoints My parents were huge EW&F fans and always played them when I was growing up, so even I could hear that shit was a rip off years before I knew most of the OST was plagiarised lol
Fun fact, the GH boxart for Budokai 3 here in the west is simply the standard release boxart for the Japanese version (Z3) of the game.

Yeah I loved Dragon ball Bodukai 3, it was amazing. That intro theme without lyrics is amazing.
Only just remembered this one when you got into localization delay changes, but Zatch Bell Mamodo Battles by 8ing is the localized version of the second game in a series, if which the first never left Japan. However, the localized version was practically a 2.5 release with entirely redone system mechanics and roster changes that had one character cut and another completely gutted (Maestro & Ponygon respectively) to match what had been dubbed so far, but with a bonus character added (Bari) to make up for it. If you look it up you can find a pretty complex guide to the system mechanics and changes in MB here on UA-cam.
Mentions GGX 1.5 and forgets Red Reload.
Don’t blame you tho, Red Reload is EXTRA obscure.
(Also can’t forget about all the kof console ports)
@@Megz_X4 Red Reload was actually the main reason I added the "If it's just bugfixes, I won't include it" stipulation, lol.
@@TheSeventhForce Red Reload does have slight balance differences. Think of Blue reload as an emergency patch we might get these days, it fixed bugs & gameplay stuff that the devs did not see during development
Awesome video and topic. Always wanted the greatest hits version of Budokai 3.

I can think of *one* more game that’s akin to GGX1.5 (an older iteration of a fighter with backported QoL changes):
Melty Blood Re-Act Final Tuned, which takes the PC indie version of MB and brings in changes from the 1st arcade release, Act Cadenza.
>Battle Arena Toshinden 2 footage in the intro
>not a word said about 2 Plus
WOW I knew Budokai 3 had some balance changes, but I never knew the Greatest Hits had that much, jeez Louise!
It's one of my favorite fighters, I might chase down the HD collection just for that.
Also, seeing Dissidia footage again reminded me just how much those games NEED to be on modern platforms. I dare say they're some of the best arena fighters I've ever played.
@@HybridAngelZero I think there's even a few MvC2 colors that are taken from some of the bonus colors in MvC PS1!
@TheSeventhForce wait that yamcha bit goes so hard. i have to go look at that sometime lmao
my friends and i run late night AI brackets of that game from time to time, its crazy how cool that game still is.
Great video topic.
Since bandai revived the sparking/tenkaichi series it would be cool if they also revive the budokai series
DIMPS kinda doing stuff right now
Don't tease me like that, I'd love to see you cover Dissidia.
I once had the re-release of the Budokai HD Collection long ago.
The budokai 3 PAL region's kanji on the box actually says "NEW" and not something stupid, I'm impressed
My real takeaway is how hard that Dissidia subtitle goes, *Universal Tuning.* For some reason that gets me thinking of a turning fork that vibrates to the universe's very frequency
Square in general had that on lock.
I mean, Atari 50 is one of the best, most in depth compilations of all time
And that's because they just didn't give Digital Eclipse ROMs and called it a day, they even bought them outright IIRC. They were just very cooperative with them
Rival Schools 2 on ps1 would have been a good pick for this list.
My earliest drafts of this video script actually had that game in here but along the way, I guess I just forgot, lol. Might circle around to this subject again in the future though, it'll definitely be included if I do.
Project justice on the dreamcast?
@@azurekeenanlightning there was a game before that actually titled Justice Gauken 2 on ps1 in Japan. It was more of an expansion though.
It had a really cool remixed version of the intro song.
smash 64 seems to have 2 different pal releases (on top of the japanese and american releases both also being different), one for europe and one for australia, but the differences are so undocumented that its hard to even tell if its true without testing it
Virtua Fighter 4 Final Tuned only released in japanese arcades. Hopefully Sega puts it in a future VF collection.
I actually thought about putting Final Tuned or VF5R in the video but ultimately didn't. Maybe for a follow up video in the future!
Since you brought up VF4 Final Tuned, I might as well mention VF5R.
_That_ was the version that first added Jean & brought back Taka-Arashi.
@@Wolfedge75 You are right. I forgot about 5R.
Aromiswave released after the Naomi, and it was just a Dreamcast like you said so less powerful than the Naomi. Maybe the lack of added power played into making 1.5 instead of putting XX on it
How obscure would you call MK Unchained? It's a PSP version of MK Deception with four extra characters and the two Gamecube characters too.
I feel like it'd have to count of I count Def Jam on PSP. Might have to do a follow up at some point in the future!
Already a big fan of IW and it's mods! Peak Budokai game, as far as mechanics go. 🙂
I'm aware of that, but I didn't do a great job of clarifying when the rollback update hit relative to +R's release. My bad!
@ I mean to be fair it’s not quite relevant to what you’re talking about and otherwise the video was phenomenal. I hadn’t ever heard of any of these so it was very cool to learn about these niche versions of games. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! In the interest of not spreading misinformation though, I try my best to make sure I'm communicating factual info, so any and all corrections are appreciated and encouraged!
Lists like THIS need more attention to rather than "here are 10 games you've been heard of" and the first game is something like DuckTales or Joe and Mac. So I tip my hat to you, sir.
Soul Calibur III Arcade Edition
The Arcade update of sorts includes three returning fighters not present in the original PS2 version. It's running on the same arcade hardware as Tekken 5 and it came out in 2006 only in Japan.
Try out on an emulator or something to see the differences of the only "Soul" fighting game with no guest characters though.
I know I already asked you what your favorite Christmas movies were but are their any unconventional Christmas films that you like watch every holiday season.
I know these film are kind of debatable if their Christmas films or not but some of my favorite would be Die Hard, Gremlins,Trading Places, Edward Scissorhands and Terry Gilliam’s Brazil just a name a few.
Probably just Die Hard for me.
Street Fighter Zero 3 Upper (SEGA NAOMI)
This update is based off the Dreamcast "Saikyo Dojo" version and includes all available characters from the PS1/DC version, VMU functionality where you can play as the character you leveled up in the console World Tour mode, and has some alleged gameplay bug/glitch fixes.
This update actually wasn't well liked Japanese arcades and the original CPS-2 version is still the preferred among competitive players even today.
If we get a new Dissidia game someday that both Jack and Clive will be in that game.
@@SirIsaacFortesque Yep! Added that new scenario from the Xbox port, I believe?
@@TheSeventhForce Correct.
Btw, 012 is actually read as "Duodecim".

Its genuinely a common thing where people dont know these differences which is fair due to the confusing names.
I think it should be treated as a common misconception we should correct, not the answer we continue to spread. Slash is 100% an update though, it has less content then older XX versions lol
“Released: MMIX”

@@DollarinoJones That was my cheeky way of getting around the FF logo font I was using not having proper numbers 😆
I like Budokai 3 but I just can't get past Dragon Rush, in vs. CPU it just feels like a luck based mechanic. For this reason I prefer 2
Ps2 Greatest Hits were called Platinum in Europe.
Dibs on Alpha 3
Go for it! 👍The only versions I'll probably talk about in the future are the PS2 and eventual CFC2 version of Upper (The former moreso than the latter)
Why is shrek 2 there
