Mine was a bad solder joint on the RPM sensor. Yes it got knocked around cuz of the play on the motor axle. Fixed that and the bad solder point. All good.

Thanks for the video. I fixed my garage door opener today with the help of this video. The problem was: door was closing and right away it was opening for about a foot and then the motor was making noise and it was stoping. So I took the black round plastic (shown in this video) and pulled the metal ring slightly outward so that the ring makes the hole tighter and places it properly back on its position behind the motor. Make sure to have the outer rims go between the sensors. It worked.

11/9/23 I would check to see if the shaft can be pushed back so the black cover can slip on the shaft more. Loosen the Allen screws on the o ring on the shaft and see if the shaft can move back some so the black cover can fit better. Fixed mine

Hey Matt they are usually opened up slightly. You could take it off of the motor shaft and pinch it tight with your fingers and then re attach it to the shaft. I have never had a problem with that being the problem. If it is not an RPM sensor problem then most likely you have a circuit board problem.
    Thanks

Also ensure the wires are away from this moving part, because if it comes out or the motor gets out of position it damages and cuts the wires and makes them fire hazard. It he wires in my garage door opener was slightly damaged and one of the wire that goes to a light bulb was snapped because of the motor assemble had turn and was out of it place. This out of placement had caused this black plastic at the back of the motor to chew the electrical wires and eventually getting itself out of place

Hey kyle, these symptoms match my problem. Is there a way to test the little logic board with a multimeter before i go buy one? Thanks.

Thanks for this video. Can you comment about the cup that attaches to the motor?
After a trouble code I looked into this part and found although the cup looks to spin well on the motor, the metal ring on the neck is opened slightly. Should it be like this or should it be fully shut?
I tested the sensor on my workbench and it seems to be working, so if it truly is the RPM sensor, I'm starting to think that the cup is slipping and I just can't see it because it's turning too fast.
    Thanks!
